Diary of a Deity - The Dawning

Rate this book
After months of captivity and torment, we’ve finally escaped Bicaidian prison.

But there’s no time to celebrate—Arrick is still bound under Madwyn’s control, Valeria has fallen, and my parents have vanished.

When a mysterious prisoner we freed during our escape reveals a key to breaking Arrick’s binding, and I discover where my parents have fled, we learn the truth about my family’s past is far more complicated than we imagined.

The Twelve Realms are on the brink of destruction and with time running out, we have no choice but to divide and conquer.

While I rally the scattered royal families to form a fragile alliance, Remi and Thayne must infiltrate Valeria’s most secure fortress to steal the secret to saving Arrick. But the royals don’t trust me, and without my grandfather’s leadership, the alliance is crumbling. Meanwhile, rebel forces are tearing Valeria apart, and its capital city teeters on the edge of chaos.

The odds are stacked against us, but failure isn’t an option. Because when the survival of everyone I love is at stake, there are no second chances.

I was so lucky to ARC most of this series, and I cannot say enough about this book or this entire series! Loryn has such fantastic world building and character descriptions! This book was a lot longer the the other 3 books and I held my breath through most it. And just when I thought I could breathe…..more twists and turns and action! The romance was very sweet with just the right amount of spice!! The magic was fantastical and in no way overdone! Overall The Dawning was a great ending to a series and I look forward to many more amazing books by Loryn!!! And I wouldn’t turn down updates from time to time on Arrick and Bekka either!!! ;)

Lucky enough to get an ARC copy of this book, I can't say enough about how I fell in love with this cast of characters and their growth. Having both a strong plot, fast-paced action, and multiple romance stories happening simultaneously is the exact balance I enjoy. The constant action of Loryn's writing keeps me engaged start to finish. Didn't even phase me that this last book was so thick! The way the story wrapped up was satisfying. Except, without spoilers, there were a certain 2 characters I was sad to see, sort of take the sidelines in this last book. All in all, I loved the story and will say a silent prayer that novellas or connected stand alones to this universe are in our near future!

Loryn Moore’s Diary of a Deity: The Dawning is everything a sequel should be—bigger in scope, sharper in tension, and devastatingly emotional. From the first page, readers are hurled into a world teetering on the edge of ruin, where loyalty, love, and survival collide in ways that will leave you breathless.

After surviving months of captivity and torment, our protagonists escape Bicaidian prison—but freedom comes with heavier chains. Arrick remains bound under Madwyn’s control, Valeria has fallen into chaos, and the protagonist’s parents have vanished, pulling the threads of family, trust, and destiny into a tangled, dangerous web. Moore wastes no time raising the stakes, weaving personal heartbreak into world-shattering consequences.

What makes this installment shine is its dual urgency: the intimate, desperate race to save Arrick, and the sweeping political maneuvering needed to hold the fractured Twelve Realms together. The tension of watching Remi and Thayne infiltrate Valeria’s most secure fortress mirrors the equally precarious task of rallying suspicious royal families into a fragile alliance. Both missions pulse with danger and doubt, and Moore captures that balance brilliantly—every success feels hard-won, every setback devastating.

The character work is outstanding. The emotional scars of imprisonment linger in every choice, every interaction. Arrick’s continued binding is both heartbreaking and motivating, while the protagonist’s struggles to step into leadership without their grandfather’s guiding hand add weight to the political intrigue. The push and pull of trust—between royals, rebels, and even family—creates constant suspense. And when a mysterious freed prisoner reveals new truths about the family’s past, the personal stakes spiral even higher.

Moore’s prose remains cinematic yet deeply emotional, painting scenes of rebellion, fractured kingdoms, and desperate battles with vivid clarity. The pacing is relentless in the best way: one chapter drenched in court politics and betrayal, the next exploding with danger, magic, and daring heists. Yet threaded through it all is the heart of the series—love, loyalty, and the refusal to give up, even when the odds say you should.

What an adventure! I was sent an ARC of this so I could leave an honest review. So let's get into it!

Firstly this is the final book in Bekkas series and I can't believe my time with Bekka is over, what a journey she has been on.

This story is a chunky one and so much happened during it. It almost feels like the start and the finish are years apart. We start Bekka and Arricks journeys right where book 3 the Darkening leaves off. Bekka and her companions have just escaped Bicaidian prison, whilst Arrick is still bound serving Madwyn as her general.

The story unfolds at such a pace that I found myself holding my breath for what was going to happen next. We discover the purpose of the governer chips, find out who the mysterious prisoner is, meet new friends even a crafty criminal, test where loyalties lie and what unconditional love can do for a person.

It was such a roller coaster of emotion and adventure. I often felt like I would get whip lash with how fast things changed. The stakes were always so high and I felt genuine fear for the characters and situations they were in.

I don't want to spoil the plot for others as this series is so gripping. Loryns characters are fleshed out so well they feel like friends you know and love (Well most of them anyway. Not sure I could ever love Madwyn 😂 what a piece of work she is!).

The places that Bekka and her companions travel to are so well described that I want to visit them. Especially Ipopulca and Faryndale, hello ice realm and one with dragons. I'm sold on both!

I trully loved this series and the conclusion is so good I can't recommend it enough. My only criticism is that I still want more, I could of had another book with a where are they now scenario going on. I'm sad to leave this world but so glad I got to visit.

Thank you Loryn for sending me an ARC copy it has honestly been the best start to my year.

Loryn knows how to finish up a series! This is the final book in a four-book series for the Diary of a Diety! If you haven’t read the first three books (The Burning, The Rising, and The Darkening), do that immediately! This book has it all: Gods and Goddesses, magic, found family, prophecies, pathogens, and DRAGONS!!! YESSSS!!!

We start this book right where The Darkening ended with Bekka and her friends escaping the Bicaidian Prison hell that psycho Madwyn had them caged in. Loryn’s world building and character development are simply phenomenal and you will just fall in love with them (well, all except Madwyn of course – she is truly something else!!) But even though they have escaped, that is only half of the battle ahead of them. Arrick (Bekka’s soulfused mate) is still bound to psycho Madwyn and they must try to figure out a way to break the binding and save the realms from Madwyn.

This was by far my favorite in the series! I truly loved all of the books in the series and enjoyed the way Loryn described all of the realms. I’m so sad that this is the last book in the series and would love to see Loryn continue this with maybe a Novella that goes into what is going on now…..

Thank you Loryn for allowing me the opportunity to be a member of your team and receive an advanced copy of this book and voluntary leave my review. I am a forever fan of your writing and highly recommend this book to anyone who loves to read fantasy! This is a must read!

Now THIS is how you end a series folks!

If you have not yet delved into the Diary of a Deity series by Loryn Moore you are missing out. 13 realms, Gods and Goddesses with all different kinds of powers, politics and wars. This series truly has it all.

If you haven't read the first 3 books, scroll away.....

This book was a twisty, turny, up, downs, tears and laughter everything you could want masterpiece.

While Arrick remains bound to Madwyn and her evil plans for the takeover of the 12 realms, Bekka, Remi, Thayne and the gang have to divide and conquer in order to stop the war Madwyn started. They also have to figure out what is making the Deity's sick and interpret the prophecy that will help them break Arrick's bond. But getting the prophecy out of Valeria isn't going to be easy after Madwyn conquers it.

Who will come to their aid? Who will make it through the war? Can Bekka earn the respect of the 12 realms and unite them once again? You'll just have to read it and find out!

Oh. My. Goats.

*Note, I received this as an ARC in return for an honest review *

Book 4, and the final installment of the Diary of a Deity series, was such a thrilling and enthralling way to end this quartet! I will admit it's definitely a chonkier (thicker) read, but it's neither daunting nor distressing. The pacing of the story works very well, and the breaks from one book to the next is fairly seamless. This is most definitely one of my favorite magic/diety series and Loryn Moore is proving herself to be an amazing author. The storyline & characters all having their own complexities but none of them took too much or seemed forced.

There is some spice later on in the novel, very descriptive but not in a crude way.

Soulfused mates, unlikely alliances, cautious relationship, despair, ALL of the emotions, but a deeply satisfying conclusion. I cannot recommend the series enough!

I received this book as an ARC read & I'm doing this review as my opinion and feelings.
I will admit this book took me a long time to read. It's really long and it probably could've been shorten by a few chapters.
But I gave it a 5star read because of the story, the characters, and the angst. I fell in love with Remi and Thayne and their story. Beka and Arrick are the main couple I feel like but there was just something about Remi and Thayne that had me hooked. I would get so excited when I finally got back to a Chapter about them. The ending pulled at my heartstrings and had me holding my breath. Not to give away any spoilers but I cried several times in the last 5-6 chapters. I would definitely read more of her books.

What a journey! Couldn’t ask for a better closing to the Diary of a Deity series. I enjoyed reading and watching the growth of Loryn Moore’s writing during this series. The Dawning will keep you on your toes with so many emotions and character growth.

The Dawning picks up right where The Rising left off. After the prison break Bekka and the others have to work together to find a way to save Arrick. Bekka has to convince the twelve realms she’s worthy of taking over her grandfather’s title as Peacekeeper in the process.

Enemies become friends, world/war building, love, find a cure and so much more.

This was an amazing finish to this series. I was sad to see the series end, and am hoping there are a variety of spin-off stories/plot lines for these characters. The writing is so well done, and you can see the growth of the characters over time, along with the growth of the author herself. I was so excited for this book release, and I was not disappointed! I don't want to give away spoilers, but this was such an amazing book and while it tied up SO many loose ends, it left me wanting so much more. READ THIS SERIES!

This book was the perfect end to this series. I was still holding my breath from the clif hanger that was the end of book 3. I loved seeing the growth in Bekka as she took on the full role she was destined to be.

Loryn had my heart in such a hold with a care she created in me for all of the characters.

I'm sad this is the end, but I have loved every single second from the cliff hangers to the tears I couldn't stop coming at the end.

Loryn Moore has made an amazing series with Diary of a Deity. I cannot express enough the majestic ways in which she paints a world I want so badly to explore and be a part of.
That being said, The Dawning has, by far, been my favorite, and the absolute icing on the top.
