This book absolutely consumed my life for two days straight and I have zero regrets! As someone who has read extensively in new adult and college romance, I'm genuinely blown away by how the author weaves an addictive enemies-to-lovers romance into a world of forbidden magic and dangerous secrets.
The story takes place at Westbrook University, where ancient magical traditions create the perfect backdrop for a college romance that will keep you turning pages well into the night.
Eve's character development is masterfully crafted. She begins as someone hiding her true identity while trying to navigate college life, but her journey toward embracing her power feels organic and authentic. Her struggle between maintaining secrecy and following her heart creates a tension that keeps you invested throughout the story. Nate Ashford serves as the perfect foil and eventual partner - his transformation from dutiful enforcer to questioning the system he was raised to protect matches her journey perfectly. Their chemistry is absolutely electric from their first confrontation, their magic literally sparking between them in a way that's deliciously satisfying.
What elevates this beyond a standard paranormal romance is how their magical compatibility adds depth to their relationship. The author masterfully balances moments of intensity with genuine tenderness, while the spicy scenes advance both the plot and character development in meaningful ways. The library scene, in particular, stands out as a perfect blend of romantic intensity and magical spectacle - trust me, you'll never look at library stacks the same way again.
For readers who appreciate paranormal/fantasy romance that actually makes sense within its world, steamy scenes, and storylines that deliver emotional satisfaction, "Veiled Legacy" is an absolute must-read.
In conclusion, "Veiled Legacy" delivers an enchanting new adult romance that perfectly balances magical intrigue with heart-pounding romance. It's a story about forbidden love and hidden power that will stay with you long after you turn the last page.

I really enjoyed this book. The storyline was fast paced and easy to read. I enjoyed the characters and enemies to lovers aspects of it.

This story follows Eve who is the last heir to a magical bloodline. She has to hide who she truly is as she attends Westbrook University undercover to try to track down an artifact and help find out why her parents were killed.

The Triads also attend the school and they are also on the hunt for this artifact. Nate is one of the Triad members who originally starts off trying to figure out what Eve is hiding. As he gets closer to her to try to find out her secrets, their magics combine in ways that should be forbidden.

Their magic enhances each others but they’ve always been told that magical bloodlines should only mix with certain families. They start to wonder if what the covenant says is true or if they are the ones hiding something.

Their magic brings them together and connects them in ways that cannot be explained. Eve has to decide if she can fully trust Nate who is a Triad with her secrets or if it’s something she needs to do on her own.

Again, I really enjoyed the story and the characters. The only character that was a little odd to me was the roommate Mia. I think they should have shown more concern when she was acting so strange as they brushed it off quite a few times.

Overall, this is an entertaining story and I loved the library scenes! Highly recommend.

Thank you to BookSirens for providing this arc. All opinions are my own.

Spice Level:
🌶🌶

Tropes:
romantasy

Despite having a rough start, as the story progresses, this new adult romantasy becomes impossible to put down

I struggled to get into Veiled Legacy at first. The opening scenes move very quickly and are somewhat cliché. There is also quite a bit of repetition, and the way the characters choose to ignore Mia’s strange, sporadic robotic behavior is unbelievable. However, I am very glad I stuck with it. Once more is revealed regarding the hidden secrets of banned magic and the more Eve understands her parents’ legacy, the story becomes very intriguing.

Nate is a difficult character, torn between duty and love, and at times, he is difficult to like. However, Annie Lavigne developed his characterization very well. Eve is powerful but somewhat naïve, and her hyperfocus leads her to reveal too much, putting herself in danger, and, by extension, making it harder for Nate to protect her. These two, together, are chaotic like a Tesla coil, their power surging and sparking but controlled and magnificent.

Overall, I truly enjoyed Veiled Legacy and look forward to continuing the Bound by Magic series. Fans of new adult romantasy will be drawn to this enemies-to-lovers, fated mates romance as well as the political intrigue behind the prevailing magic system. Readers who find the beginning unengaging will be rewarded with a gratifying conclusion.

Overall 4/5

-I quite enjoyed this book. The magical fantasy elements mixed with scholarly aspects were really interesting. Although, I do wish there were more filler chapters. The book felt much more of a romance because every scene the couple appeared at least once and I wanted more details about the world and the magic system. The words "clothing disappeared" and "we dressed hastily" appeared far to many times for my liking. It felt like every scene was just a rewritten version of the previous one. Other than that, I still was invested in the storyline.

-I liked the characters but I wish that the romance was a bit more slow burn. There was still the elements of them being enemies at first while still being attracted to each other but I wish that it lasted longer than it did. Once the two characters slept with each other, it felt like they had to sleep with each other every chance they got, going back to the fact that each chapter became the same. It was still a sweet relationship when they didn’t sleep with each other.

-I was hoping for a bit more twists and turns by the ending and there were a few low stakes ones but I was still hoping for more. I would read more form this author and see how things evolve in this world but it won’t be priority for me. I like a good fantasy romance but I still prefer the fantasy over the romance.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I've had to take a few days since finishing this, to think about how to review it; my initial feels about it, were that it had an awesome plot and I loved the different approach to magic, but unfortunately the authors writing style and storytelling style, were not compatible with the way my brain works. It's what made this story, overall, not as pleasant to read as it could have been.
I felt personally, that there was a lot of repetition in the story with the inner monologues of the characters - some repetition, showing fate or kin-like thinking can be great, but too much ends up feeling like and author was simply trying to add to a word count perhaps. I feel like the repetition was intended to show the connection between the characters, but maybe making those thoughts more specific could help.
I also felt that maybe too much of the "answers" were given away early on in the book.
Otherwise, Veiled Legacy has a well thought out plot, and characters that I was able to connect with and empathise with through their journey.
I definitely feel like the world of Westbrook University could be expanded on in a series of its own - despite my personal tastes on the writing style, I'd quite likely still read them.

Fantastic and Exciting Read

The book immediately draws you in with its captivating world-building. The concept of blending the ordinary and the magical, where they coexist seamlessly, is refreshing and intuitive. Westbrook University, a place that feels almost tangible, becomes a beacon of hope.

Beyond its impressive world-building, the relationship between Eve and Nate is a captivating force. Initially, their interactions are a battle of wits and strength, but as they meet more frequently, a steamy attraction ignites. The charged atmosphere of their undeniable chemistry lingers on the pages, leaving a lasting impression.

The magic system in the book is based on relationships and compatibility, which means that both Eve and Nate must shed their preconceived notions and embrace each other’s unique magical signatures. This element adds depth and intrigue to the story, as they navigate the challenges of their growing connection.

The mystery surrounding Eve, the covenant, and the Sinclair family keeps the reader engaged and eager to discover more. The book concludes with a significant defeat for Dawn Enterprises, leaving the reader yearning for the next installment in the series. I eagerly anticipate the continuation of this captivating story.

OMGGG!! 🔥🥵 I just finished "Veiled Legacy" and I CANNOT stop thinking about it!! I literally stayed up until 3 AM because I couldn't put it down.
Eve and Nate's chemistry is EVERYTHING! The way their magic connects even before they do? And how they try to fight it but can't? I'm obsessed! Also can we talk about that library scene?! 📚✨ The way their powers combined and made everything glow while they were... you know... 👀 SO ROMANTIC!
The whole forbidden combined magic adds so much tension. And Nate pretending not to care about her in front of his Triad friends while secretly being completely in love? I died!
Also, the plot is actually really good?? Like yes, the romance is 🔥🔥🔥, but the whole mystery about Eve's parents and the Dawn Enterprises being super creepy with what they did to Mia? I need the next book NOW.
Seriously, if you love:

Forbidden romance
Magic school vibes
Spicy scenes that aren't crude
Enemies-to-lovers that will melt your heart
That protective bad boy trope we all live for

THIS IS YOUR BOOK!
(Also petition to rename this "Veiled Legacy: A Guide to Making Ancient Wards Glow" because IYKYK 😉)

Loved the book. The story was refreshing in its take of academy paranormal romance. Though i wish there was more detail to the magic system, it was still solid and interesting.

I liked the fact that the relationship between Nate and Eve, though they started off on opposite sides, wasn't abrasive as to have it not make sense when they get together. Though they did get together rather too quickly.

I didn’t give it a 5 since I got a bit out of the story when every time they kissed magic filled the air, books and papers floated around. I mean it happened four times with the same description, it happened again would have been better. Then there was the time when they found a secret room they had to work at getting into and after the books flying and all they were afraid they would get caught by those searching for thr magic signature and ran.

Here's the thing, no running through hoops again and the room was said to be shielded or something. Also Mia being ignored despite acting robotic wasn’t realistic.

Still, I loved the book and will definitely read the next one, Mia's book, hopefully.

Veiled Legacy started off so strong—the premise was intriguing, the world-building pulled me in, and I was completely invested in where the story was heading. However, as the book progressed, I found myself losing interest, and by the final stretch, I was skimming rather than fully reading. The pacing felt like it dragged in places, especially when it came to the romance.

Speaking of romance—this was slow burn to the extreme. It took almost half the book before there was anything romantic happening, and while I usually love a slow build, this one felt too drawn out. I wanted more chemistry earlier on to keep me hooked, but instead, it felt like I was waiting forever for things to really click.

That being said, I did enjoy the characters and the world-building. The writing was atmospheric, and the mystery surrounding the story was enough to keep me intrigued, even when the pacing lagged. If you love a very slow-burn romance with rich detail and a unique premise, Veiled Legacy is worth picking up. Just be prepared for a story that takes its time unraveling!

A nice supernatural romance

I enjoyed the blend of college drama and hidden magic in this story. The enemies to lovers tension made the story feel exciting, and I liked how the magical system really changed the characters lives. At times the pacing slowed, especially during some backstory parts, which I guess was intentional? The plot kept me reading anyways. If you like supernatural romance, this is a solid pick!

Through LibraryThings, I obtained Veiled Legacy as an ARC, which marks the beginning of a series delving into magic, love, and a dash of spice. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌶🌶🌶🌶 My appreciation for the enemies-to-lovers trope continues to grow. Eve keeps a secret and is under the watchful eye of the Triad, whereas Nate fulfills the role of enforcer within the Triad. To safeguard magic, they must develop trust in each other.
