In 1891, Willa Abbot is a young New York socialite, but when her beloved father goes missing, she takes to the rails to find him. She becomes a Harvey Girl—a waitress at one of a dozen Harvey Houses along the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe train line. Saving her father hinges on a Spanish treasure map, outwitting ruthless con men, and tangling with an alluring Pinkerton agent.
A great book for those looking for a quick read that has a fast-paced, historically-accurate (as far as I can tell) depiction of Harvey Girls. Willa is a strong, witty protagonist, and her side kick Dori offers the right amount of levity. The sweet budding romance is done with the skill of a great story-teller. Can’t wait for the next book!
