True heroes aren’t just the ones who run into danger but also those who stand strong in the face of it.

On Virginia’s quiet Eastern Shore, two unsung heroes find themselves drawn together by duty and a growing connection neither expected.

Detective Jeremy Pickett thrives on the rush of high-stakes investigations, his charm as disarming as his determination. But when he meets Dr. Cora Wadsworth, the reserved and brilliant Medical Examiner who’s immune to his easy charisma, Jeremy finds himself unexpectedly intrigued.

Cora, an introvert by nature, traded the chaos of big-city life for the solace of the shore, intent on leaving her past behind. Yet, as she works alongside Jeremy to unravel a mysterious death, her guarded exterior begins to crack, revealing the courage and compassion that make her a hero in her own right.

When an unassuming autopsy uncovers a deadly secret, Cora becomes the target of someone desperate to hide the truth. When Cora faces a dangerous situation, Jeremy confronts the depths of his feelings. Racing against time, he must save the woman who’s become far more than a colleague—and protect the love he never saw coming.

A Baytown Boys sub-series.
The Virginia Marine Police and the North Heron Sheriff’s Department - Keeping the county and waterways of the Eastern Shore of Virginia safe, follow along as they find love. Small town romantic suspense.

As an Award Winning and International Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Kobo Best Selling Author, I have always been an avid reader. I joke that I "cut my romance teeth" on the old historical romance books. I’ve written as a hobby for over 30 years. In 2014, I finally gave in to the characters in my head pleading for their story to be told. Thus, Emma's Home was created.

My first novel, Emma's Home became an Amazon Best Seller in 3 categories within the first month of publishing. Its success was followed by the rest of the Fairfield Series and then led into the Love's Series. From there I have continued with the romantic suspense Alvarez Security Series and now the Saints Protection & Investigation Series.

My books are filled with sweet romance and hot sex; mystery, suspense, real life characters and situations. My heroes are alphas, take charge men who love the strong, independent women they fall in love with.
I worked as a counselor in a high school and have been involved in education for the past 30 years. I recently retired and now can spend more time devoted to my writing.

I have been married to a wonderfully patient man for 35 years and have 2 adult, very supportive daughters.
When writing, my dog or one of my cats will usually be found in my lap!

I love to hear from readers, so please email me!

⭐⭐⭐⭐
4 stars.

➕ What I liked :

Rather interesting plot.

Quite interesting main characters.

A heroine that has a “unusual” job/profession for a romance book…. And the romance genre.
(The heroine is a medical examiner/forensic pathologist… I don’t think I have ever read a heroine with that job/profession before.)

Kind of interesting side characters.

Good romance/romantic build-up and chemistry.
(The main characters have a slow burn romance and actually become friendly and get to know each other before becoming lovers.)

Funny in some parts of the story.

That both main characters were celibate from when they met and during their slow build up romance.

A quietly strong and confident heroine.

Opposite attract romance.

The cats.

➖ What I disliked:

For being a Romantic Suspense book… the action/suspense part was a little thin and only really there at the very end of the book.

A little too wordy.
(Dragged a little bit in some places.)

Formulaic character description/visual appearance and choice for both the main characters.
(The hero is tall and muscular and handsome and well endowed.…. And the heroine: petite, slender and beautiful etc.)

After all the build up…. The intimate scenes/sex scenes were a little lukewarm and somewhat rushed.

This is book eleven in The Baytown Heroes Series and it is Jeremy and Cora’s story and omg it is definitely a must read. Jeremy is a detective with Eastern Shore Drug Task Force in Virginia and is used to working under pressure and seeing some gruesome scenes but his job is so important to him even though he sometimes used his charm to get what he wants. Cora is a medical examiner and works by the rules and so she decided to leave her city job for one on The Eastern Shore in Virginia especially as she is a quiet person and keeps to herself and also wanted to leave her past life behind and she also works many hours and doesn’t have time for anything else. The first time that Jeremy and Cora met things didn’t go well at all and happened quite often but all Jeremy was trying to do is to get Cora to smile and not be so stiff and controlled all the time and when he managed that he was blown away by her and wanted to get to know her better. Jeremy and Cora often thought about each other but did nothing about it as their jobs are all consuming which left them in a stale mate situation. When there started to be a lot of elderly deaths and there are no clues about what was causing it and also if it was foul play because things were not adding up which ended up with Jeremy and Cora spending more time together and seeing each other more things around them start to change and grow but danger is closer than they no and Cora is the one that is in the crosshairs and also finds herself in a dangerous situation and that is when Jeremy realised just how much Cora meant to him and he would do anything and everything regardless of what it is or the situation and circumstances involved that he needed to make sure that she was safe and protected because he wants a future with her. Wow this book was a edge of your seat read and I couldn’t put it down because it was action packed and so addictive which will have you turning the pages and unable to put this book down as the storyline pulled you in and kept your attention throughout and I can’t wait to read more books in this amazing series. I definitely recommend you read this book and others by this author and you will not be disappointed.

Detective Jeremy Pickett is confident and charming and has no hesitation in using his charm to win anyone over that is until he meets the utterly professional Medical Examiner Dr Cora Wadsworth, who singly fails to fall at his feet and merely treats him with disdain. Intrigued Jeremy is determined to win her over and make her smile but only succeeds in inserting his foot in his mouth virtually every time they cross paths. I absolutely loved Jeremy and Cora meetings and their verbal exchanges, she is a puzzle he’s never come across before whilst she views him as a good looking player in whose world she simply doesn’t fit. More determined than ever to win her over Jeremy changes tact and drops the charm for simply being himself and slowly the introverted doctor starts to let down her walls and their friendship grows into more. Never fully comfortable socially, introverted Cora struggles with small talk and much prefers her own company and staying in and as their relationship evolves she is revealed as a straight talker with a wicked sense of humour that easily matches the more extroverted Jeremy’s. Thank you Maryann Jordan for the perfect banter and jokes and mug slogans relating to Cora’s job as an ME perfectly balanced by her ever present respect for the deceased whoever they may be.
An increasing number of unexpected deaths amongst the elderly and missing prescription drugs lead to Jeremy and his fellow detectives are thrown together with Cora as they struggle to fit the pieces together and link everything together. Cleverly written, it’s an intriguing plot that keeps you glued to the story. Cora is a gem and she and Jeremy are the perfect example of opposites attracting and uniting together.
Highly recommended!

Maryann Jordan has created another thrilling page-turner that will hold your attention from the first page until the very last page. It is an absorbing love story about two courageous people who live on the Eastern Shore in Virginia and are complete opposites.

Jeremy Pickett is a big, muscular and extremely fit detective who works for the Eastern Shore Drug Task Force. He is a very outgoing man with lots of charisma that he effectively uses to get information from suspects and dates from women. He is also very intelligent, hardworking and thrives on the dangers and challenges involved in his life as a detective.

On the other hand, Dr. Cora Wadsworth, the medical examiner in the town, is completely different from Jeremy. This intelligent scientist is so reserved that she feels very uncomfortable communicating and socializing with other people. On the other hand, she is very serious about her career, and goes out of her way to treat her “patients” with the utmost respect even though they are not alive to appreciate it.

Unexpectedly, while working together, Jeremy and Cora discover that, in spite of their differences, they are very attracted to each other. At first they are concerned about their differences. However, as they slowly begin to realize that their values, standards and compassion for people are very much alike, they understand that their differences do not matter

Without warning, Jeremy and Cora both find themselves in the middle of several mysterious deaths that seem to have nothing in common. Readers will be mesmerized as the couple zealously investigates these deaths. This story is filled with riveting suspense, non-stop action, and twist and turns that will keep readers on the edge-of-your seat for the entire book.

Oh my what an absolutely beautiful read!! Once again Maryann Jordan has knocked it out of the park!! For me, Maryann Jordan’s book are the best kind of comfort read. They just have everything your heart needs to feel happy.

I loved Cora’s character. She’s a total badass. She’s the ultimate professional but she tempers that perfectly with her care and empathy.

I can totally relate to Cora with her aversion to social situations. I too prefer my books, Netflix and my comfy blanket. She’s a woman comfortable in her own skin, she knows who she is and she’s happy with that which I think is a big hurdle many woman, including myself, struggle with.

Jeremy is a man who knows his appeal and has no qualms using them when needed. He’s also a protector and a beautiful soul at heart. But I loved that he had to work to show Cora that he was worthy of her. He had to take a breath and be real with her, show her who he really was at his core. And boy what a delicious catch he is!!!

I love the camaraderie he has with his co-workers. The way they work seamlessly together in order to protect and serve to the best of their ability.

I love Cora and Jeremy together. They are like two halves of the same heart finally merging together. Absolutely beautiful. Full of emotion and depth that will leave you breathless.

As always with Maryann’s books, I cannot recommend highly enough!!!

Hidden Hero is the eleventh book in the Baytown Heroes series by Maryann Jordan. If you're in the mood for a charming blend of small-town romance and suspense, then Baytown Heroes is the binge you’ve been looking for. Set along the beautiful waterways of Virginia’s Eastern Shore, this 12-book series follows the lives of the Virginia Marine Police and the North Heron Sheriff’s Department as they juggle crime-fighting, family, friendship, and love.
Each book focuses on a different hero - whether it’s a single dad, a detective, or a long-time friend - finding love under stressful, often life-threatening circumstances. The characters are relatable, their chemistry believable, and despite being “heroes” they’re flawed enough to feel real. From high school crushes rekindled to second-chance romances and unexpected sparks, there’s a story for virtually every kind of (contemporary) romance fan.
The series hits that perfect spot between romance and suspense. There are moments of tension and danger that kept me on edge, but they’re balanced with warmth, humor, and small-town charm. Ms. Jordan’s writing is quite engaging, making the books easy to devour.
So, if you love swoon-worthy heroes, strong heroines, and a little edge-of-your-seat suspense, then the Baytown Heroes series is a seriously fun ride.
Happy Reading…

"I'm not antisocial. I'm just postmortem friendly"

I relate so well to Cora and her social awkwardness, she is so lovely and has a wicked sense of humour but few actually understand her or really see her. They fail to see past the quiet but confident Medical Examiner who is efficient but set in her ways. They see a serious, stiff and entirely too focussed doctor who needs to relax and laugh more, but Cora sees her position as one that needs to give respect to the dead and show the dignity they deserve.
Jeremy is quick to laugh and crack a joke to relieve the tension of a crime scene, most join in but some see it as disrespectful, Cora shows him another viewpoint, she helps him understand that her serious nature is not indifference. They have a dramatic first meeting and Jeremy puts his foot in it more than once over the next few months, but the more they work together the more they see past the masks worn at a crime scene to the people underneath and are surprised by what they discover.
I really enjoyed their journey, their quirks and seeing their feelings blossom into a love neither expected.
I enjoy all the Baytown series, but the Baytown Heroes hold a special place in my heart.

Jeremy Pickett is a charming, albeit sometimes cocky detective—and Dr. Cora Wadsworth, the new medical examiner who's all business and doesn’t waste words. From the moment they meet, sparks fly. Jeremy is intrigued by Cora's no-nonsense attitude; she’s unlike any woman he’s ever encountered. Meanwhile, Cora sees Jeremy as just another playboy, not worth her time. But as the story unfolds, it becomes clear that neither of them is as they initially appear.

Both characters have depth, humour, and a developing relationship that keeps you reading. As their connection deepens, so does the mystery surrounding a string of elderly deaths—each victim found without their prescribed medications. It's up to Jeremy, Cora, and the rest of the Baytown Heroes team to uncover the link between these deaths before another life is lost.

I very much enjoyed this book. Jeremy and Cora are both relatable and well-developed characters. The mystery is layered and engaging, and as always, Maryann Jordan’s attention to detail and research shines through. This is another fantastic addition to the Baytown Heroes series.

Once again this author delivers a page turner that wraps you up in the Baytown world and leaves you wanting more.
Jeremy is a detective, Cora is the new ME in town and their first few encounters had Jeremy sticking his foot in his mouth but Cora doesn’t let it faze her and acts with grace after their encounters. Jeremy is intrigued by the quiet by the book woman and what he hears from others, contradicts his assessment and is determined even after all his not so great remarks, is to see if he can make her smile or laugh. Months pass and they finally form a friendship and when he sees and learns who Cora really is, he wants more. Luckily Cora is also intrigued by Jeremy and when she learns who he really is, she’s all in as well. Their cases overlap and one in particular circles back that comes to a head and Cora is in the middle of it.
A great read with some suspense, surprises, laugh out moments, steam, adorable cats and great characters. This read will pull you in and not let go till the end, which will leave you smiling from ear to ear and wanting more from the Baytown world.

Take a sweet, but sometimes cocky detective named Jeremy Pickett introduce him to the new medical examiner Dr. Cora Wadsworth a "straight to the point" person and you have an explosive combo. Cora intrigues Jeremy, she is nothing like any woman he has every met where Cora thinks Jeremy is just another "playboy". As the book progresses the reader learns both Cora and Jeremy are not "one dimensional" people. They are both funny in their own way with have a sexual tension humming between them. The more they learn about each other the more they like each other. As more elderly people end up dead with the their prescriptions missing Cora, Jeremy and the whole Baytown Hero team must find out the common thread leading to these deaths before another elderly person passes.
I truly enjoyed this book, Cora and Jeremy are both realistic, personable and relatable characters. I enjoyed the multi-faceted mystery. It is apparent as in all Ms. Jordan's books she does extensive research on the topics she brings to life in her books. Another great addition to Baytown Heros

Epic foot in mouth disease leads to more.

When the confident Jeremy screws up with the quiet ME, Cora, he'll do anything to make amends. Only his usual quips and smiles don't work. Deciding on a new tactic, he starts to truly listen and watch her, learning more about her and what makes her tick. And what he discovers opens him up to something he never saw coming.

Together, they let a budding friendship grow into something more, all while working a case together. A case that leads to danger for Cora and Jeremy's need to protect the woman he loves.

I love how Jeremy learns from his mistakes and strives to make things right with Cora, but wish there had been an apology somewhere in there for the things he'd said about her behind her back (which she overhears). Otherwise, seeing these two grow and learn is nice. Introverts and extroverts can exist together once they understand each other.

Jeremy is a detective. He works on the Eastern shore with his partner Pete. He is diligent, charming and follows rules and procedures to close their cases. He is very much an extrovert. Cora is the new medical examiner. She follows rules and regulations to find answers for her patients while also providing them and their families with respect and dignity. When they first meet there is a clash and Jeremy can’t believe she isn’t charmed by him. Cora handles him with professionalism and Jeremy is intrigued. When their work overlaps and as they get to know one another perceptions are not always what they seem and they quickly realize they have more in common. When a case turns dangerous will their growing relationship survive? There is intrigue, suspense and danger. You don’t want to miss this book! Another wonderful Maryann Jordan story that you won’t want to put down till you turn that last page. 5+ stars.

Jeremy is used that his cheeky charm and good looks, with him having women falling at his feet. He is detective working on the Eastern shore with his partner Pete. Both men work hard is hard and follow the rules and procedures to close their cases. When he meets Cora the new ME at a crime scene, his charm falls flat. As time goes on no matter what he says improves what Cora thinks of him. Cora is an amazing medical examiner. Who follows rules and regulations to find answers for the dead in her care treating them and their families with respect and dignity. Finding themselves working closely on a case of the elderly dying. Slowly respect is given. But with Dana get around the corner, the two have to work together and work to keep their new found relationship growing.
You can not help but fall in love with these characters. Both strong, witty and have passion.

Suspense, drama, angst, romance and wonderful characters.

When someone starts off by putting their foot in it as completely as Jeremy does when he meets Cora, you know there’s going to be a good story. The fireworks will either obliterate him or there will be a relationship worth reading about.
There are many small details in this book that will pull you in even more deeply than the (excellent) story itself. This is about more than two people determined to see justice for the people they serve. It is about having the courage to listen to advice (Jeremy in particular!), understanding and accepting one’s social limitations (as an introvert, Cora really spoke to me!), and about the strength of the community in Baytown.
The book is un-put-down-able. The characters are well written and empathetic (well, the good guys are empathetic), the story is gripping, there are details it is easy to miss and that you will kick yourself for, and it is one to come back to when you’re nostalgic for all the Baytown heroes.

We are back in the Eastern Shores where this time, the charming Detective Jeremy Pickett finds himself sticking his foot in his mouth more than once with the quiet and caring ME (medical examiner) Cora Wadsworth. A woman that at first he thought was a “stick in the mud” , until he realizes she’s not only compassionate , but also brilliant, strong and dedicated to her job and the patients she deals with. Individuals that in death, deserve as much respect and care as those alive.
As the mystery of why elderly individuals are dying and found with empty bottles of prescriptions, a bond starts to form between these two. Leading to an attraction that continues to blossom. Could this be “the one” for each of them?
But first, the mystery must be solve and Cora must be kept away from danger.
This was another engaging story in the series, with likable characters and an interesting plot.

What a fantastic love story between Cora and Jeremy. At first neither got a long well,Jeremy thinking that Cora didn't know how to have fun or smile while Cora thought Jeremy was soo much of a flirt and smoozer.
But something was happening to seniors around town and the Drug Task Force was trying to figure out why drugs were disappearing while Cora, the new ME, was trying to figure why the seniors were dying with no prescription meds were found in their blood.
The two find themselves working together and getting over their not so meet cute. But can they solve the mystery of the missing medications, what are the common denominator and who's behind it all? Will Jeremy get serious with Cora and can Cora lighten up a bit around him? This is a wonderful book, great cast of people, good suspense and some wonderful heat! Jeremy and Cora have a great connection but aren't the only ones that have electricity zapping between them. I highly recommend this book!

Just what I needed! Cora and Jeremy met at work. He's a detective and she's a medical examiner. Cora is different than a lot of heroines because she takes a little longer to warm up to Jeremy. His usual jokes, smile and good looks aren't going to be what wins Cora over. I loved the complexity of Cora and how much detail was put into her character to make sure her job was accurately portrayed, and she was relatable to those who have a little social anxiety. There is mystery, murder and urgency to catch the killer before they kill again! I highly recommend this one. I also find it very ironic as I was reading that there was a character with the last name Snodgrass. When I was a kid, we had a ventriloquist come to school and his name was Leroy Snodgrass. This has been a running joke in our family since this, "Hi I'm Leroy Snodgrass and I like you.". So not only was Suffolk mentioned but so was a very random childhood memory brought up both made me smile!

What happens when you have a man who skates through life using his charm meets a woman who totally throws him for a loop as his charm doesn't seem to work on her at all that is what happens when Detective Jeremy Pickett meets Medical Examiner Dr Cora Wadsworth All that does is fires up his determination to get her o react to him and while it takes time he does wear her down That is when he realises that she is far more charming and sweet than he ever realised and soon he is falling for her and the feeling his mutual. But as always danger is threatening and there is a mystery to solve one that crosses cases and that Cora seems to be in the centre of Can he keep her safe and can they build a future You will have to read to see

This story totally had me engaged from almost the first page as Jeremey struggles with not getting the sweet reaction he is used to It is great to see him grow throughout the story line.

I loved that Dr. Cora Wadsworth put Detective Jeremy Pickett in his place at their first meeting. For a man who's always been able to charm people with a smile, quip or wink, he's taken aback. Then he compounds it by trying to be glib only to get caught not once but twice.Talk about being red faced. Once again, Maryann Jordan has created two terrific characters who down to earth and genuinely likeable. Their relationship starts off slowly but evolves from co-workers, to friends, to lovers to HEA once Jeremy shuts his mouth and opens his ears. Cora is a formidable force when doing her job but perfers her own company when off the clock. But, there's something about Jeremy that captures her imagination. The case they work together on has an interesting twist and will definitely pique your curiosity and hold your interest. Plus any visit to the Eastern Shore is always welcome.

He's the joker cop always seeking to bring a smile. She's the serious Medical Examiner, who finds his humour misplaced.
When Jeremy vows to bring a smile to Cora's face he just ends up with mud on his face as she brushes him off time and again.
But as the series we be months to by, his friends help him realise that he's trying to hard. It only takes Jeremy witnessing her empathy and respect and a kind gesture or two for things to change.
As Cora get to know the man beneath the quips, and Jeremy sees the humour in Cora they begin to understand each other.
But as they investigate links between deaths of seniors in the area, there are more sparks and feelings between the pair.. But can they find out who's behind the crime?
I loved Jeremy and Cora and the way their initial perceptions of each other change over the course of the book.
Another wonderful visit to baytown.

HIDDEN HERO is the eleventh in Maryann Jordan’s excellent Baytown Heroes series. Detective Jeremy Pickett is a man accustomed to charming his way through the world, and he’s caught off guard when he initially meets medical examiner Cora Wadsworth. Dr Wadsworth is no-nonsense and efficient and seemingly immune to his playful flirtations. However as their paths continue cross as their work required, they begin to see that maybe their first impressions weren't the entire picture.

Maryann Jordan's terrific characterizations and plotting are in evidence again with this well-paced romantic suspense. Cora and Jeremy become friendly then choose to act on their mutual attraction. Ms Jordan allows their personal and professional relationship to unfold smoothly, and the story is a page-turner. Looking forward as always to more from Ms Jordan.

What a fun read. There's romance, suspense and great character development (as usual from Maryann Jordan. Jeremy is a member of the drug task force and is an extravert. He charms people with his smile and his witty quips. Cora is the new medical examiner and is smart and very much an introvert. Jeremy goes out of his way to make Cora smile but keeps putting his foot in his mouth. Some wise words from his sister and Jeremy is doing some soul searching and making some changes. Eventually Cora and Jeremy become friends. They are brought closer by their love of cats and work. The characters grow before your eyes as does the mystery. I usually am able to figure out the story line early on but this book has some interesting twists that make the book all the more enjoyable to read.

Highly recommend this newest book from Maryann Jordan's Baytown Heroes series.

We are headed back to Baytown to North Heron County. Jeremy Pickett is a detective on the Drug Task Force. Dr Cora Wadsworth is a medical examiner. Jeremy is always flirting. Cora is very straight-laced when it comes to her work. Maryann shows first impressions are not always what they seem. The banter between the two kept me smiling, giggling, and straight out laughing throughout the book. But along with the humor, there was compassion and some eye opening unexpected scenes in the book. It is of course a love story between Jeremy and Cora with a touch of suspense added in. We also meet some characters that will be coming soon in their own stories. This is definitely a Maryann Jordan book in all respects and will become one of your favorites.

Jeremy and Cora are a couple that you will remember. She is a medical examiner and he is a cop on a drug task force. The humor of Cora is dry and Jeremy is constantly putting his foot in his mouth. I like how their friendship and relationship evolve despite this. The story is well-written and flows smoothly. The characters show their strength and flaws which makes them more enduring. There is a suspense element throughout the story and it is one I haven't read before. The supporting characters consist of some from her other books and there are some new ones so you can go back and read about the old ones, and I look forward to the new people. I highly recommend this book as a stand-alone title and the series as a whole.

Detective Jeremy Pickett of the Eastern Shore Drug Task Force thrives on the high paced and high stakes investigations he handles on a daily basis. Dr. Cora Wadsworth is the new medial examiner for the Eastern Shore trading her high chaos city job for the solace of the Eastern Shore. When they cross paths on scenes Jeremy has made it his goal to get her to smile. It seems to make it that much better that she seems to be immune to his charm. Suddenly they are thrown together working to solve a mystery murder case. When Cora is suddenly the one with the target on her back Jeremy is forced to really look into his feelings and protect her. As the case goes on they start to realize what their feelings are for one another.

Hidden Hero is book 11 in the Baytown Heroes series by Maryann Jordan and another awesome read!

Jeremy and his partner work for the Eastern Shore Drug Task force. When called to the scene of an accident where bags of pills are found, Jeremy meets the new medical examiner, Cora. Jeremy then proceeds to open his mouth and insert his foot..lol. What happens when more suspicious death comes across the ME’s office..Jeremy and Cora need to work together to solve the cases but also the chemistry between them starts rising, friends, edge of your seat, suspense, thinking you know who…but you don’t..see old friends and more…

I voluntarily read a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I love Maryann Jordan's Baytown Heroes series.

I totally loved Jeremy and Cora's read. Like the saying goes never judge a book by it's cover. And oh did Jeremy misjudge the ME. Seems he was getting caught sticking his foot in his mouth every time she was around. Cora wasn't too fond of Jeremy either although they each couldn't get the other out of their minds. I love the way Maryann Jordan portraited the characters. I loved the way Jeremy and Cora slowly got comfortable with each other. Seems it was inevitable since they were always bumping into each other. I really really loved how Cora shocked Jeremy when she turned out to be the pursuer and playful one. Great read as always in this series. Now can't wait for Pete and Angie's read.

Jeremy gets off on the wrong foot with Cora, the medical examiner and spends a considerable amount of time trying to remove his foot from his mouth. However as time goes on the sparks begin to fly and they find what used to be annoyances now are anything but.

Returning to Baytown is always a treat. The people are as real as someone you'd meet in the corner grocery store and there is always the chance of catching up with old friends from other books. As always Ms Jordan writes a wonderful story with love and romance as well as the twist you know is coming but can't quite figure out who the bad guy is. This is a series I hope will never end.

I really enjoyed Cora and Jeremy’s story, the next in the ongoing series about Baytown , it’s surrounding areas and the people who live and work there. Initially Cora and Jeremy appear to be complete opposites but after Jeremy puts his foot in his mouth a few times, eventually he stops before he speaks and they begin to get to know each other and realise they have things in common such as their cats and a sense of humour . Jeremy is a detective on the drug squad and Cora is a Medical Examiner so their work does interact from time to time. I really appreciated the research Maryann Jordan has done on the pathophysiology and effects of toxic plants, her biology was spot on! I’m a nurse and notice these things . This is an interesting and well developed plot and of course the love story is wonderful. I do hope Pete and Angie get a book .

I volunteered to read and review an advanced readers copy of Hidden Hero . This story is part of the Baytown Heroes series . Detective Jeremy Pickett and his partner Detective Pete Bolton are with the Eastern Shore Drug Task . When Jeremy first meets new medical examiner Dr. Cora Wadsworth she doesn't fall for his charms . After several questionable deaths has Jeremy and Cora working side by side they find that their first impressions of each other are wrong . They soon find themselves growing closer . Cora unfortunately finds herself in a dangerous situation . This story has everything suspense, romance and love . I really enjoyed reading it . I highly recommend taking the time to read .
