Second Chance

I love a good second chance story….what really made the story a little more enjoyable was the interaction with the kids….I love a good story with a touch of humor. The good pastor and Eva got off too easy for my liking….more of the pastors dirty deeds were discovered, but Nyali didn’t mention those things when she had the opportunity to confront her father. The transition between timeframes during the story was a bit rough , parts of the story lacked structure and there were some errors throughout the story…all in all I really did enjoy the story and would like to hear from other Graham family members as well as her sister Audra.

I usually hateeeee the secret baby trope because most of the time I can't help but think "why you ain't tell that man about that baby ?!" but Kami hooked me in with Back To Me. While I don't necessarily agree with Nayeli's reasoning for never telling Rule about their child, I understand her decision.

I think Kami did a beautiful job at bringing these characters back together and healing them so that they feel safe enough to fall for each other again. By the end of the book I felt all warm and fuzzy. This was a such a beautiful read.

Good

The story was a good read. My initial reaction was very different from my final conclusion. Second chance love stories always make me very happy when they end with a HEA.

Rule and Nayeli were madly in love as high school sweethearts . Until snakes made Nayeli make a choice that changed Rules world. Fast forward 10 years. Nayeli is hiding a big secret from Rule. A talent show occurs and everything comes to light. Rule finds out he has a 9 year old daughter. Rule and Nayeli found out about several snakes who intervened with their love. Rule and Dove were still madly in love with each as though no time passed. Rule was able to let that hurt go and learn to let Dove back in. I love why he calls her Dove too 🥰🥰. There is no Rule without Dove 🥰🥰

I low key want a spin-off with the sister and best friend as well as the brother and his girl.

Nayeli & Rule, high school sweethearts. After dating for years, Nayeli finds out she is pregnant. Not wanting to have Rule sacrifice his upcoming career, it was kept a secret. Fast forward to 10 years later, Reign has questions on who her father is. Curiosity gets the best of her and answers slowly are revealed. Rule (Reign’s father) happens to be judging a talent show. It’s there that he discovers he has a daughter. Still holding resentment for the past, they make the best of the situation. Eventually, they each realize that their love hasn’t faded. Many secrets and understanding of the situation is unveiled. Moving forward was no longer an issue. Will they successfully co-parent or will true love prevail? This book was my first read by this author and definitely a page turner.

I loved Kami and I love the premise of this story I wanna start there. How there was a few things that took away from the story for me.

Let’s start with the positive! I loved Rule!!! He was a fantastic man and an even better father and even after he was betrayed he took the high road. I wanted him to crash out a bit lol but that wasn’t his personality.

Nayeli was hurt but she did what she thought for her and Rule. She really tried to not hinder him. I was mad at her but I love her.

Okay the not so good: there were so many errors with double word placement, incorrect words & missing words like where it should say “could not”, but not was missing therefore changing the sentence entirely. It took away from the story because I would have to stop and try to fix the sentence to make sure I understood what was happening. It just happened to many time to where it was a bit distracting.

Also it felt long to me even though it wasn’t, just seem like it slowed down at some point and for it to be a short book it was a bit confusing.

This book made my eyes cross. It’s your run of the mill secret kid second chance romance. Cool. But I wanted to DNF just for the sheer amount of errors. It was almost like the author used talk to text to write it and nobody went back to edit it. There were so many typos and misspelled or wrong words used, character names changing from sentence to sentence and Non existent punctuation in places. I had issues with the lack of editing in the first book, but this was next level, so it has me hesitant to continue the series. I pushed through it though because the book had decent reviews.

It’s always so interesting to me when authors include all the popular tropes in a single book and just assume that that will make for an incredible book. It never works. We love those tropes when they’re done well otherwise it’s just another bad book.

Good read

I enjoyed Rule’s story but the bad editing at times was really distracting. There were some sentences that made no sense and you had to try and figure out what was being said. The bad thing about it was that it happened continuously throughout the book. At first I was kind of irritated at the secret child trope used in this book because it gets tiresome seeing it, but I came to realize why it was used and that it added to the story. At times through the story I found a problem with the continuity, but I was able to press on through.

This was my first read by this author and I wanted to read it because everyone was reading it on instagram and I am glad that I did. So at first I was like I am not too impressed with Rule because it just seems like he has no respect for the women like he just wants to hit it and quit it and yeah I understand the women out themselves in the position but dang. However, he did have a soft side for his mother and his sisters so maybe he might be ok. So when he went home to do the talent show and Reign sang and his sisters immediately said you got a child you didn’t tell us about he acted quickly stepped in and from jump took care of his responsibilities and never questioned what he was supposed to do. He then showed what type of man he was when Nayeli’s boutique got broken into he showed up with help to clean up the shop, got security alarm system, replaced glass and even got her something to eat. He then went full force when he found out she was on a date and put in place on how to get her back because he realized he did not want to lose her and wanted her back in his life for good.

Rule was definitely her protector from jump and knew how to take care of Nayeli and Reign. As Nayeli stated, Rule’s heart was one of the first things that made me fall in love with him. He always went out of his way for the people he loved, including me. If I was lacking in any area, I knew that I could go to him. He was the first man to ever make me feel like I was enough. A lot of girls have daddy issues, but it was crazy to experience something like that when you actually had a father in the home. Rule reminded me every day that I was beautiful and worthy of love. He was barely a man himself at the time, but he knew the value of uplifting the people he loved.

Nayeli as Rule stated was made for him in God’s own image. As Rule stated, When we were younger, she had to make a very difficult choice, and she chose me. She was willing to sacrifice her own happiness to make sure that I was able to live out my dreams. I’ll never be able to repay her for that. “She’s my safe place. The place that I escape to when I need to be refilled. She speaks life into me when I don’t have enough in me to do it for myself. She prays for me when I’m sleeping at night and speaks words of affirmations to me when I wake up.”“She takes care of every part of me: mind, body, and soul. There isn’t a woman alive that can bring me the peace that she does. Just having her around me brings instant calmness to my soul. She’s everything I never knew that I could have. She’s my everything.”

A love that lasts

Rule and Nayeli were high school sweethearts until she suddenly ended things, left him only a note, and disappeared from town. Fast forward ten years, and Rule is back as a judge for a local singing competition. He’s instantly blown away by the voice of a little girl… and even more shocked when she steps on stage looking exactly like him. That little girl, Reign, is the daughter he never knew he had.

Watching Reign build a relationship with the father she’s always wanted is honestly the sweetest part of the story. Rule has every right to be upset, though, and that frustration shows in how cold and distant he is toward Nayeli in the beginning. Their tension feels real, especially once we learn what Nayeli has been carrying.

Nayeli’s past is heavy. Her father—who is also a pastor—forced her to leave town when she told him she was pregnant, and her stepmother made things even worse. As the story unfolds, we see just how many people were working behind the scenes to keep her and Rule apart. Nayeli truly believed she was doing the right thing by staying away so she wouldn’t derail his career.

The book also tackles colorism in an honest and necessary way. Nayeli was bullied for her dark complexion by classmates and even her own stepmother, who tried to pressure her into using bleaching cream. Now, seeing her pour love and affirmation into Reign—who shares her complexion even though she resembles Rule—is beautiful. Rule is just as intentional, making sure Reign knows she is loved and stunning exactly as she is.

The pacing is steady, and once Rule finally accepts that he’s still in love with Nayeli, everything starts falling into place in a way that feels earned. My only critique is that the book could’ve used another round of editing because there were quite a few typos, but they didn’t take away from the story for me.

Overall, this was heartfelt, emotional, and full of family, healing, and second chances. I’m really enjoying the Graham family saga so far.

Another great book!

I within this book that even though you have different characters none of them overshadow who the book was about and I really liked that. Rule and Nayeli missed out on 10 years of love over some janky secrets, I felt for this couple. Nayeli was just a kid and had to mack a decision that hurt her and Rule and then to find out what was behind all of it I was glad she got her moment but I think Eva got off to easy for sure 🤣. I am glad Rule was able to hear the truth, because that pushed him even more to let the anger go and claim his woman…and that he did 😜. The flow of this book was great, Rule is my type of man and the way when he meet Reign he went to instant protective mode just showed you what time of man he was. Another thing I enjoy this author is, her male characters even though a little rough they were respectful, strong, loving, dominant, showed emotion and would anything for their women. I really love reading about men that this. I would have been just like his sister’s and I love reading about closeness in black families. Reign on the other hand was my favorite because momma or daddy she wasn’t sharing any of her good 🤣🤣🤣.Granny Lula is another favorite of mine. Messiah and Miyana I need a book about them because the heat from them I need their book like yesterday 🤣 that’s such a cute pair.

Love on Repeat — Rule & Nayeli’s Song 🎶

From page one, this read felt like a slow jam creeping through the speakers—steady build, heavy feels, and a vibe you couldn’t ignore. And baby, that plot twist? Hit like a beat drop I never saw coming.

Rule was drifting, like he turned the volume down on love and never planned on turning it back up. But fate don’t stop playing when the song is already written. When Nayeli made that call for him, it felt like static at first, but really it was love speaking. She wasn’t killing his vibe—she just wanted to see him glow in the spotlight, even if it meant fading into the background.

These two went through pure hell—dreams stripped, choices stolen, pain piled high. And at the center of it all? Money proving itself the real villain, tearing at everything they were trying to hold onto.

Yet through all of it, the vibe between them was undeniable—pure second-chance energy. Rule & Nayeli gave that “love conquers all” feeling—smooth, messy, and real. Now I’m fiending to know what Honesty’s story is hiding, and Messiah? I already know when his truth drops, it’s gonna shake everything up.

This was more than a read—it was a whole track, love and second chances laid down on the beat of fate. 🎶

Back To Me, Back To Us ❤️🤝🏾

When I first started this book and read the part about Nayeli was keeping a secret that happens to be a baby, I was like “OMG not another secret baby trope.” To my surprise the Author Kami did an excellent job with bringing Nayeli’s reasoning for keeping Graham out the loop together to make somewhat perfect sense, although I will never understand why she didn’t just reach out after 9 or so years to let Graham know that he had a child is still beyond my recollection. I mean I understand her reasoning and the circumstances that played a major part in her secret.

Now as far as Nayeli’s sister Audra goes, man that chick was so funny. I cracked up sooo many times when she was talking about her daughter Nessa’s daddy and his mama. Between Graham and Audra, this book was sooo good and entertaining.

I think Kami did an awesome job bringing Graham and Nayeli back together and healing them in a way that made them feel comfortable enough to fall back in love with each other. I’m just glad that Graham and Nayeli got their happily ever after. After years apart, they came together like they were always meant to be.

Bayyyybeeeee all I’m gonna say is the Graham Men!!!!!!!! Yes! Yes! Yasssssss! Justice still holds my heart but reading what Rule and Nayeli went through was WHEW!!!! The way I wanted Nayeli step momma and daddy to be UNALIVED!!!! Listen the fact that they felt okay doing what they did to her really irked me. After all Nayeli had been through, she finally meets someone who sees her for who she is and loves her beyond everything and them no good suckas came between them. I’m so glad they reconciled and everything came to light. It was beautiful to see the love they had for each other never went away, it’s like it was stronger. Watching them persevere through it all and loving on Reign in the process was beautiful. I loved Audra’s relationship with her sister, it was everything and I’m glad she had someone in her corner cause I don’t think she could have recovered without her. Rule and Nay getting their HEA was well deserved for them both especially since they lost 9 years together, it was only right. I’m definitely falling down the rabbit hole with your love stories Miss Kami!

Thoughts....

So I have never been the biggest fan of second chance romances... Can't really explain why but they just have not been really for me however that doesn't mean I won't give them a try every now and again. I did like this story and how nayeli and rule ended up re connecting through their 9 year old daughter. Reign was adorable and funny she literally gave her parents a run for their money. This was definitely a solid read... Every now and again nayeli irked my nerves but yeah I still liked the book. I will say I was definitely a little bit more invested in her sister's side story that I would like to get a little spend off of I'm just saying. The people who definitely messed upWith a relationship deserved everything they got because neelie's dad ain't s*** and neither is her stepmom... They deserve prison as well. Kind of wish we got something their but all in all solid read

Cute!!!!!!!! Humorous!!!!!!!!! Sassy!!!!!!

This is the second Kindle Unlimited Book, I went back and purchased, this week, because it was that good! I just want to read it again and again! I fell in love with the plot, the conflicts and many of the characters.

Nayeli and Rule were torn apart by greedy and deceitful people who were suppose to be on their side. Jail is too good for them!!!!

R & B singer, Rule and Reign, his 9 year old daughter, were too cute together and their conversations were hilarious. However, when she went to0 far, Nayeli would tell Reign to "play with something safe". She was crossing int0 the danger lane. I loved that!!!

I was so glad that Rule's family was so loving and supportive, because Nayeli's evil crew was horrible.

Awesome story!!!!

Really in my second chance romance era!

This was my first read by Kami and I really enjoyed it! I was definitely side eyeing Rule after those first few chapters because he seemed like he was too much in the worst way! He redeemed himself with his family though!

I definitely guessed there was interference with how things played out between Rule and Nayeli but I didn’t see what the connections were coming at all. My jaw literally dropped open like how did nobody know any of this!!! Like can we question Knowledge from the grave because baby what?! That was an unexpected plot twist!

Reign was hilarious. She will definitely give her parents utter hell! Nayeli going all Laila Ali on us was much needed! The double agent surprise was cute. loved the happy ending, overall a good story like I could actually read more about this crew and really enjoy it!

There’s a lot to love about this book—especially the character development, which truly stood out and kept me engaged from start to finish. While my initial rating was a 3.5, I’m rounding up to a 4 because of how well the author brought the characters to life and laid the groundwork for what feels like a promising series.

That said, I did find the number of errors distracting at times. I often had to reread certain lines, which took me out of the flow of the story. As a reader who values clean editing, that part was a bit frustrating.

Still, the plot and subplots were compelling, and I’m genuinely excited to see where the story goes next. I’m hopeful that the upcoming books in the series will get the editorial attention they deserve, because the storytelling potential here is undeniable.

why am I crying???

Lord Kami 🥹🥹🥹. My emotions were all wrapped up in this story. I absolutely love Rule😍😍😍. From Jump Rule was everything Nayeli needed. He was her support system, the one to speak life and love into her, he constantly let her know she was beautiful. Kami you know you can write you a Book Bae!!! They had so many people working to pull them apart and destroy their happiness I don’t know if these two could make it. The story was beautifully written. Each character had so much depth that you couldn’t help but get emotionally attached to them in someway. Audra was absolutely hilarious. I loved her. I’m also fully invested in wanting to read Messiah’s story with Miyana. Another 5 ⭐️ read. CHEF’s KISS

Love Story U didn’t Know U Needed!

Back to Me is a deeply emotional journey that will have you completely invested in the characters’ lives. The story pulls you in from the very beginning, and I found myself rooting for the characters, practically willing them to just get together already! The author’s writing style is absolute perfection—it’s impossible not to fall in love with the characters. The way she keeps you on the edge of your seat, making you ache for the resolution you want, is masterful. This book is a testament to how powerful storytelling can be when it’s done right. Highly recommended for anyone who loves a story that tugs at your heartstrings and keeps you hooked until the very last page.

This is how a second-chance romance is done. Rule and Nayeli had something stuff they needed to work through considering how their relationship ended when they were teenagers. Rule was not to be played with and was very understanding when it came to Nayeli. The relationship Reign and Rule was really sweet, and Rule got the surprise of his life at the talent show. Pastor Jospeh, Eva, Alton, and Tondra can all got rot for how they played with Rule and Nayeli's emotions, schemed with Rule's money, and changed their situation even though it worked out Rule and Nayeli's favor. Reign was the star of the story and came to collect her coins lol. Now what’s up with Audra and Asa👀. Messiah and Miyana got a story to tell and it sounds like it’s going to be something else.

Finding Out The Secret Is Your Peace!

Kami Holt, good read. It's really sad when people allow greed to over rule good sense. When people think they are doing something for the good ends up hurting much more than it helps turns out wht God meant to happen nobody can stop it. Everything happens when and how it's supposed to. Reign was able to have the best of worlds. Nayeli had her life altered from something that should never have happened.
Rule, was just the man in my opinion. He took a terrible situation and after he thought about it he let go and everything fell in place. A great read!🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
