The Ruby Dragon Prince

Rate this book
Once upon a time, in an enchanted kingdom of captive omega princes and jeweled dragon alpha princes….

Tovey

Even though my brothers and I are of royal blood, our lives have been made miserable by our father the king. He has locked us in the castle and gives our heats to wicked nobles to secure their loyalty and their gold or ogres of his choosing. It is a life of sadness and desperation that I would do anything to escape.

Until a secret passage is discovered in our bedroom that takes us to a glittering world of magic and desire…

Rufus

I knew that the clever, beautiful omega that stumbled into that springtime ball was destined to be mine from the moment I saw him. We danced, we flirted, then he foolishly tried to leave. How could I not pursue him to win him back and make him mine in every way?

But my sweet omega prince has a greater evil pursuing him, and if I truly want to keep him, I might fight his demons for him and win.

The Ruby Dragon Prince is part of the Omega Fairy Tales, which were first introduced in Their Alpha. It is a tale of adventure and passion, captivity and freedom, with heat, magic, bonding, and a dragon shifter who walks a thin between heroic and wicked.

I liked the idea of a fairy tale retelling but make it omegaverse, but The Ruby Dragon Prince isn’t doing it for me.
The dialogues and writing style were very plain and the story too boring. I was going to try and push through just to see what the smut was like, but I’ve got so many better books to read.

the writing was juvenile, the scenes were over the top but this was an entertaining version of twelve dancing princesses omegaverse version.

The Ruby Dragon Prince is the first book in the ‘Omega Fairy Tales’ series. It stars Tovey, an omega prince, and Rufus, an Alpha dragon shifter prince. This is told in first person from Tovey and Rufus’ povs, and is an instant lust, instant mate trope.

First I want to mention the cover. It’s gorgeous! It doesn’t have the usual bare-chested cover model, but a fierce looking red dragon. I can’t wait to see what the other covers are going to look like.

The blurb does a good job of describing the plot, so I won’t go into it too much. This book is a fairytale. The series is based on the Twelve Dancing Princesses, but there’s only six omegas in this story. These books were foreshadowed in the omega story, “Their Alpha”, by Gideon who mentioned how much he loved the tales. I’d say Tovey and his brothers live in what I would call a historical alternate universe, because it’s set during the time of Kings and other royalty. But the world they visit, is also an alternate world much better than Tovey’s world. Tovey’s world is known as the ‘cruel world.’ As I read along, I noticed the author cleverly worked in the current political issues happening in the United States as part of the plotline for Tovey’s world. There’s only a little background about Rufus’ world and how it functions. I would’ve liked to have learned more about it, but there are five other books and the author may reveal more about that world as the story goes along. Then again, since this is a fairytale, most of our fairytales don’t go into depth about world building or the background of the characters, so this book follows the same pattern.

I enjoyed the characters. Tovey and his brothers were close, and the author set up clear personalities for each. I can’t wait to see who their dragon mates are. Rufus’ brothers and relatives were fun, especially when they laughed at Rufus because of his temper. I liked Tovey even though he appeared less courageous than a couple of his other brothers. He grew more courageous as the story went. Rufus, I had a hard time liking. He was extremely hot tempered and had, what I felt, raped or non-con sex with Tovey, even though Tovey mentioned he liked the chase, fighting to get away, and being forced. For me I was still uncomfortable with their heat sex, more so than other omega heat scenes I’ve read. There’s also some partial dragon sex for those who like tentacle and other alien-type sex. Rufus’ temper did mellow a bit once Tovey returned to stay in Rufus’ world.

The epilogue ends from the King’s pov who is the father of the six omegas. He demands to know where Tovey went because he’s not in the tower where all the omega brothers are kept.

The Ruby Dragon Prince was a fun, fast read and I can’t wait to read the other books in the series. I recommend this for anyone who likes fairytales and omega verse. I give this book 5 Stars.

I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest and unbiased opinion.

Once upon a time, in an enchanted kingdom of captive omega princes and jewelled dragon alpha princes….

Tovey & his five brothers are of royal blood but their lives have been made miserable by their father the king, who has locked them in the castle and gives their heats to wicked nobles to secure their loyalty and their gold or ogres of his choosing. Until a secret passage is discovered in our bedroom that takes us to a glittering world of magic and desire. There Tovey meets Rufus
For someone who is a die hard historical romance reader to thoroughly enjoy an Omegaverse, fantasy novel with shape shifting dragons is WAY outside anything I’d thought I’d ever read. But read it I did & I loved it. I loved both Rufus & Tovey who knew from their first meeting that they were destined to be together but trouble was afoot in Tovey’s home & he refused to leave before helping. I loved that Rufus who was headstrong & impulsive bowed to Tovey’s wishes & let him lead at times. A very well written book from an author who has joined the select band of “if you write it I’ll read it”. Well paced with strong characters & I’m now looking forward to the rest of Tovey’s brothers finding their mate

Ruby Dragon Prince by Merry Farmer is book 1 in the Omega Fairy Tales series. The series is loosely based upon the Twelve Dancing Princesses. The six omega sons of an evil king find themselves in a magic land where there are dragons. Rufus, the ruby dragon, knows that Tovey is his fated mate. He claims his mate and they have to figure out how to be together while trying to defeat Tovey’s evil father’s plans. I really liked the idea though I got frustrated with the omega brothers for staying back in their miserable world. I understand the idea, but they were not allowed any freedoms and were treated very cruelly. I will definitely be reading the next book in the series to see what happens to the next brother.

This was a lot of fun. It’s a reimagining of the twelve dancing princesses. But with princes and there’s only six. It’s also omegaverse meets fairy tale meets portal fantasy. With so many great tropes included. I won’t go into detail and give anything away. Read it. But beware, this is the first of a series. While there’s no cliffhanger, there’s a set up for the installments.

The Ruby Dragon Prince is the first book in the Omega Fairy Tales series. This is an MM retelling of the Twelve Dancing Princesses but only with six omega princes. This is the story of Tovey an omega prince and Rufus an alpha prince dragon shifter. I loved how different the two main characters are and how well they fit together. I kind of felt things were a little rush for the story because MM Farmer had so many characters to introduce. There was definitely plenty of steam in the story. I am really looking forward to the next book in the series. I would definitely recommend this book.

I didn't like this story.

I should've stopped reading this after four chapters but dummy me, I continued on. I usually enjoy shifter dragon stories, omega, and alpha themes but this one didn't do any justice. This reminds me of a murder, blunt forced trauma. All the other stories that I have read, aren't as harsh. It is what it is. If I was Rufus, I would have made a better spectacle of Grosnick as well as the so-called king.

Hm. Not quite what I imagined. Rather crude and a bit dubious consent. I knew it was omegaverse going in, so not that surprising. I just didn't particularly like any of the main characters. Interesting retelling, but not quite my cup of tea.

His Dragon Prince . . .

Despite Tovey and his 5 brothers (Misha, Leo, Rumi, Obi, and Selle) being of royal blood, their father King Freslik uses them for his own selfish purposes, keeping them locked in the castle, constantly guarded, and loaning them out to others during their heats to gain what favors he wants. At the first sign of their heat, he would lock them in a cell in a remote tower at the far end of the castle. The three days of their heat was endured as agony, pain, and anguish. Their only option was to accept an alpha from their father’s monthly balls where he flaunts them in trade for the favors he wanted. Their father had hoped to produce a line of alphas to conquer neighboring kingdoms and make him powerful. But producing omegas, he hated each of them and everyone in the palace knew that. The angry king had banished their Papa to the garden until he died.

Dressing for the ball, each of the brothers spoke of their imaginary prince. Then Rumi said he already found his. Not a prince but an ordinary man he met when his horse lost a shoe and he had to wait as his guard stayed with the farrier. The man said he would come to the next ball to see him. It was also at this latest ball that their father decided he would offer more than their heats; he needed long-term alliances to win the war and they would be his payment. And since this disgusting plan was Lord Groswick’s idea, the sour-looking, middle-aged man with the huge nose and crooked teeth would get to dance this evening with Tovey. And Groswick promptly told Tovey he intends to marry him and get whatever he wants from him no matter what. Before he could do more, the king yelled Hold! The guards were sent toward Rumi and a servant he was pressed up against and the other brothers were gathered to be removed from the room. The king’s sons were now prisoners, never to be allowed out of their room until he finds alphas to sell them to in marriage... but Emmy is not really a servant but a Prince who promises to save all of them. He had given Rumi a green stone and, when he dropped it, it rolled under the bed and a green light glowed and a door appeared. Are they ready to take a chance? Will a secret passage allow them to escape? What will they find on the other side? Would Rufus and the others in this magical world find their fated mates? Will the ruby-red dragon save Tovey from the evil that wants to claim him?

Tovey and his six brothers are princes but they are effectively also prisoners in their own home. Their father, King Freslik, married their Papa, an omega, in the hope of being given a daughter, it has never happened and now his sons remain imprisoned and at his whim. They are forced to attend his dances, dance with the Lords and other nobles in attendance, all of whom would like nothing more than to be given one of the sons.

The brothers are close, they care deeply for one another and none of them want this for one another but they are not certain what they can do until the day Remi, the oldest, tells them he has found his Alpha. The Alpha unfortunately disappears at the worst possible moment but not without leaving Remi a parting gift, one that is going to change everything for the brothers.

Remi's Alpha is, unknown to him, a dragon shifter from a magical realm. The gift he left is a doorway into that realm, a doorway the brothers take advantage of, allowing them moments of happiness and to spite their father's best efforts to subdue them into submission. On the first trip the brothers take through the door it is not Remi but Tovey who unwittingly meets his mate. Rufus is a prince of the realm, a dragon shifter, and he knows immediately that Tovey is his. Despite the warnings of his brother and cousin he is determined to relentlessly pursue Tovey no matter what... And that is how he finds himself in the human world, being dragged off by palace guards... This is a love story, a fairy story retold so we know things will work out well in the end but the excitement of getting there is nail-bitingly good!

MM Farmer has taken the old fairytale of The Twelve Dancing Princesses and altered it, after all a series following 12 princes could be a little much! So, we have the pleasure of meeting six omega princes and their dragon shifter mates in true fairytale style, complete with some charming romance, plenty of humour and action too. If you love your fairytales, diving into new worlds, princes with access to a magical doorway and fated mates don't miss this first book in what promises to be a brilliant series. I just hope that King Fesilik gets his dues!

Here's MM Farmer's latest: "The Ruby Dragon Prince." It's the first novel in her Omega Fairy Tales series

["Once upon a time, in an enchanted kingdom of captive omega princes and jeweled dragon alpha princes….

But my sweet omega prince has a greater evil pursuing him, and if I truly want to keep him, I might fight his demons for him and win."]

Holy. Shit! This book was fabulous! It was a little dark and a lot fluffy. There was so much world building and possibility and characterization and just AH! There was so much love and found family (well, brother's sticking strong) and magic. There was so much beauty in a world in where evil tries to stamp out all joy.

But these brothers wouldn't allow their father to take their joy away. Take their love away. Take their dedication away. They stood strong with each other, with hope of a better future, with the joy of dancing. They all have a vision for their future, and today, Tovey's came true.

I can't wait for the rest of the princes to get their HEA..and for the evil king to get his karma.

*I received an ARC copy of this book and this review is my honest opinion*(no spoilers)

Book - ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Spice - 🌶🌶🌶 (one scene could be seen as slightly D/C in case that is a trigger for you but enjoyed by both MMCs and partially shifted sex - just the characters tongue)

Fairytale but make it ⭐️gay⭐️

I really love MM Farmer and their omegaverse. And dragons. So this book was a no-brainer for me. This is based on the Fairytale of the 12 Princess' which I was familiar with but I don't think it would affect your enjoyment if you weren't.

The story was a little slow at the start but I pushed through that and once it got going it sucked me in and I was invested. It is only a novella, and like with all novellas, there were things I wish had been expanded on or extended. But I experience that with most novellas I read. I enjoyed the relationship between the two main characters - they did have to work for their HEA but I wouldn't say that the book was overly angsty. The book does end in a cliffhanger but not for the couple and there is an over-arching plot that will continue throughout the series. My only issue was the brothers frustrated me at times but I'm interested in seeing how that will play out over the rest of series.

As this is a fated mates story expect insta-love/lusy but i do expect that from my omega verse. Though I would have liked to have seen more of the characters outside of the mating side of things. But again, it was only a short novella.

The only downside was that as this is both a novella, and the first in the series, there was alot of world building/chatacter introductions that I do think the charcater development of the main mmcs suffered a little. However the world building was good, and now the introductions have been made, I don't think the next book in the series will suffer from that.

This is a fun take on the Twelve Dancing Princesses, pared down to six omega princes, each to find their mate in a parallel magical realm inhabited by dragon shifters, unicorns, and other magical beings. Our princely hero is Tovey, one of the middle princes, yearning for a life of freedom from the castle, hating the idea of “needing” an alpha during his heats, and hoping for a an alpha with a fierce heart to fight against his father’s wickedness.
When the princes unexpectedly find a hidden doorway to a magical world where their time seems to stand still, they start to attend nightly balls there. Tovey meets Rufus, a forward dragon prince who informs Tovey that they are mates and he will mate and claim him. Tovey is not impressed, but fate is against him, and the deed is done. Even though the sense of peace Tovey feels afterwards makes him want to stay, he cannot leave his brothers, so all return home. Rufus must help his mate as the princes try to foil their father’s plans, so that Tovey and Rufus can be together.
The princes are interesting characters, and the personality of each will come out more in each prince’s individual story. Tovey is bolder and braver than he ever thought he could be, outspoken and trying to make a difference. Rufus is impatient to bring his mate home, but must learn patience and planning to carry out his mission and achieve his goal. Steamy times for Rufus and Tovey, eggs laid, nests made, lairs to come home to, uprisings, and justice coming full circle for one character to give the reader an “oh, yeah!” moment, as we await the next dragon to claim his princely omega mate.

This is book one of the author’s Omega Fairy Tales series and features Tovey, one of six beautiful human omega princes, and Rufus, an alpha ruby dragon prince.

Once the princes found themselves in possession of a doorway to a magical realm, they began escaping there at night in hopes they might find an alpha of their own choosing instead of being given to one of the king’s old, unscrupulous, supporters as a mate as he threatened. It was there at a ball that Tovey caught the scent of his mate, a gorgeous red haired alpha who turned out to be so much more than he appeared.

Even after Tovey and Rufus had mated, he refused to abandon his brothers to the king’s wrath and his evil plan to bleed the kingdom of all its wealth and land so he returned until the king’s plans could be thwarted.

Rufus, his temperament matching his ruby scales, was an impatient hothead and quite often, he ended up making things more difficult than they had to be when he attempted to bring his omega back home. His devotion to and protectiveness of his mate however was clear, melting my heart and making me fall in love with him myself.

There was a bit of drama involved here, thanks to the evil king, but absolutely zero angst (which I LOVED), lots of steam and plenty of sweetness. Our two MCs did get their well deserved HEA but the overarching storyline with the king’s plot will continue on into the next book and possibly through the remaining princes’ matings and I’m already looking forward to each one. 5 stars!.

THE RUBY DRAGON PRINCE is the first novella in the Omega Fairy Tales series and is a retelling based on The Twelve Dancing Princesses. Instead, we have six Omega princes and their cruel father, plus Dragon princes!!!

Tovey is extremely close to his brothers, being as they only really have each other. They daydream about what a life could be like, but Rumi doesn't need to. He's found his mate and has been given a small green marble which opens to a different realm. The princes go there and have a ball - literally. Tovey meets with fated mate, Rufus, but leaves to go back with his brothers.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story, especially the relationship between the brothers and their responsibility to the kingdom. They are in an untenable situation and are fully aware of it. However, a little bit of magic helps them out in ways I won't talk about because, you know, spoilers.

The scenes between Tovey and Rufus are dynamic, to say the least. I loved the difference in Rufus between catching, half-breeding, fully-breeding, and protecting Tovey. Talk about animal instincts!

This is a world I look forward to returning to, and I'm so happy that bookworm Selle is next. I cannot wait! My rating is 4.5 rounded up and definitely recommended.

I don’t read a lot of fantasy romance but the blurb for this one intrigued me, and I’ve enjoyed other books by this author, so I requested an ARC; I’m glad I did. I have to admit that it started out a bit slow for me but the more I read the more I liked it; by the end I was totally hooked. It’s a short novel at only 44,000 words but there is a good amount of “meat” to it.

I was warned ahead of time that there is a cliffhanger for the series but an HEA for the main couple. This was true but I’d call it more of a soft cliffhanger; none of the characters were left in immediate peril and Tovey and Rufus get an HEA.

There was a fair amount of action in this story which kept me glued to my e-reader until I finished it. Tovey and Rufus have to work a bit for their HEA but I wouldn’t say that this story is real angsty. I’m not familiar with the fairytale that this story is based on so I didn’t have any preconceptions or expectations.

I should probably mention that there is one scene between Tovey and Rufus that might be considered non-con (but Tovey liked it that way) and there are a couple of times when Rufus partially shifts (his tongue) while he and Tovey are getting it on.

I absolutely want to continue reading this series because I really want to know what happens with Tovey’s brothers.

An advanced copy of this book was provided to me at my request; my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

The royal princes, along with alpha/omega/mpreg trope isn’t my usual fare. However, I wanted to see how MM Farmer (aka Merry Farmer) would handle this setting/trope. I wasn’t disappointed.

Prince Tovey and his brothers are all omegas, and their father has them closely guarded, determined to use them to forge advantageous marriages for the kingdom.
The King is truly a cruel despot, with no regard for anyone else’s needs or desires, working to divide people in order to control them.

After another of a series of balls designed to show off the princes, the young men discover a hidden door in their quarters. They go through the door to discover a glittering kingdom, with flora dripping with jewels, and a masked ball.

Tovey and Rufus meet, though Tovey has no idea alpha Rufus is also a prince and a dragon. The omega brothers return to the “cruel world,” though they escape to the jeweled kingdom as frequently as possible. Things get dicey when the king explicitly “gives” Tovey to one of the corrupt lords. There’s a great scene where Tovey speaks out publicly to rally the farmers to unite against the king.

Of course, this is a first in series book, and I anticipate each of Tovey’s omega brothers will have their own story in the future.

First, I just love the way this author draws you into the story. I was hooked from the beginning and had such a hard time putting it down. You just get so involved into the story, the time just files by.

Tovey is royal blood but him and his brothers do not get treated that way by their father. Him and his brothers are always locked up in the bedroom and not allowed to go anywhere. Their father is an evil man. Tovey follows his brothers when they find a secret magically passage and into another world that they didn't know existed. He can't help but have so much fun while he is there and he meets someone the same night.

Rufus knew the moment he saw Tovey that he was his. He knows where Tovey comes from but he doesn't have the patience to wait very long either. On another night, he decides to take matters in his own hands only to find himself alone the next day. He doesn't understand it but when he sees Tovey again, he finally understands that he has to have patience or lose Tovey.

This book is magical in it's own way and it's a retelling of Twelve Dancing Princesses however this is different and you will understand when you read it. This book will bring you into a new world for some and follow the journey of each brother along with their partners.

As this is a short story, I felt there wasn't enough time for proper character development. The world building was good, but there are so many characters to introduce that even the main characters lacked development of themselves or their relationship - which is super fast with insta-lust and insta-love. The one character I feel was fully fleshed out was the main bad guy, the King.
I like the devotion the six omega brothers have for each other and for their people, and I feel this will be a recurring theme throughout most, if not all, of the remaining books in the series. I liked that at one point Tovey is able to stand up to his father - even though it doesn't really get him anywhere.
Rufus is a brash and impatient man, but it seems to work with regards to Tovey, and he does have a gentler, caring side.
This book is dual POV, which I like, but there were some wasted paragraphs where there was repetition from one pov to the next. Mating is important to fated mates, but IMO, too much time was spent on this for such a short book.

MM Farmer starts their Omega Fairy Tales series with a tale based upon the Brothers Grimm's The Twelve Princesses. In it, every morning the king finds that his daughters have worn out their dancing shoes. As it turns out, the princesses are under an enchantment and go to a magic kingdom to dance the night away.
Farmer has kept the charm of the Grimm tale. And added a great deal to it. There's a dastardly king and his evil courtiers. A plot to over tax the peasants. And later in the series, there's to be an even dastardlier sorceress.
Rufus, the Ruby Dragon, meets his fated mate, Prince Tovey at the nightly masquerade and knows Tovey is his one. Tovey doesn't make it easy for him. Their mating hunt is incendiary, their passion is combustible.
The worldbuild is magical, the trees in the forest laden with gems. We meet the other five princes, each one distinct and well written. It was fun trying to match them with their fated dragons, with only bits of hints.
A quick, fun read. I hope there's a paperback. I'd definitely shelve it between the Brothers and Hans Christen Anderson!.

“All the more reason to believe fate has brought us together,” he said. “Fate is rarely wrong about these things.”
“Fate is speeding things along a bit, don’t you think?” I flirted. “I’ve only just got here, and already you’re talking about me spending the rest of my life here, with you."

I loved this book. A great start to a new series. Great world building and wonderful characters. Six omega princes being abused and exploited by their Father- the King- who hated them as he wanted alpha sons. My heart broke for the brothers' Papa (omega father) and can't imagine the sorrow in his heart until his passing. My heart also broke for Tovey and his brothers- Obi, Misha, Rumi, Selle, and Leo- and couldn't believe how they were treated by their father and paraded around, awarded to those who enriched the king like prostitutes. There was an innocence to them expected from people forced to live in captivity. I was hooked from the start and fascinated by the circumstances of the magic door and where it led. Though Rumi's relationship interested me the most (as the first one we'd been introduced to), I can't wait to read each of the princes' stories! 5 stars.

Oh. My. God. Was this written by ChatGPT? It was so bad! Instead of having 8 trillion characters, maybe try less & give them actual personalities. Also, a singular marble cannot spill to the floor. It sounds like the musings of a 17 year old theatre kid with a vivid imagination, but not THAAAT vivid and they have an unhealthy obsession with Disney, and porn. I get that it’s fiction and fantasy, but there’s got to be a certain level of reality. For example, never in the history of time/space/consciousness have 6 ADULT siblings who are mega wealthy lived in the same bedroom inside a palace. I really can’t subject myself to this kind of torture anymore. Not mentioned but still horrible: fatphobia, did I mentioned 8 trillion characters?, definite AI writing, weird AF names, exactly zero personalities, revealing pants (wtf do they have like a V cut or something and show pubes or crack?!), lack of congruency with time differences/passing, and so much more that I just can’t even get into right now. YEEEEEEEEESH.

Tovey and his 5 brothers are of royal blood but also omegas. Their father has made their lives miserable, keeping them locked up in the castle with occasional forays to the garden and to attend balls. He uses their heat to gain gold and loyalty from nobles and from ogres. They did not have the ability to say no. Then they found a secret door in their room. It takes them to a world of magic and glitter. Rufus knew when he saw the young omega who stumbled into their springtime ball, that he was meant to be his. Claiming him is just part of the problems. Tovey is also under the control of the evil king and he refuses to leave his brothers. Rufus knows he must help him with this evil.

This had a touch of everything – hot times, fated mates, magic, dastardly deeds, an evil king, and a dragon who is half heroic and half wicked. All of this combined to make a delicious story. Since there are six omegas, we should be seeing six incredible stories for our reading pleasure.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

“The time has not yet come when the princes will join us. There are wheels within wheels at work here.”

What a great start to a new series, Omega Fairy Tales, by MM Farmer. When I read the blurb about dragons and who it was written by I had to snap it up off of Booksprout to read and review. I was definitely not disappointed.

I assume, by what the author said at the end of the book, that there will be six books total, one for each brother, the omega princes. I can't wait.

This book was quite the introduction to this fantastical world. We get to know a bit about the brother's father, King Freslik, and what we learn is not good. We meet each of the omega brothers and some of the dragons related to the ruby dragon.

I loved how Tovey, the omega prince, met his fated mate, the ruby dragon, Rufus. I'm looking forward to seeing how the rest of the brothers meet their fated mates.

I can't wait to see what's next!!! Keep them coming Merry.

This is a cute retelling of a fairy tale with added dragons, a possessive alpha and a villian king.

There is quite a lot of world building going on, a large number of characters are introduced and as the story is not that long, there is a bit of lack on the main two characters' development.

It's an Alpha/Omega fated mate story, so there is the insta-lust followed by immediate love, that is to be expected. I would have loved a bit more "couple" time outside the bed and Rufus explaining a bit more that Tovey needs to expect instead of like "ups, here are your eggs" and how the magical world actually works.

I still thoroughly enjoyed the story, I love a sassy omega and Tovey is one. He is also fiercy loyal and protective towards his brothers and cares deeply for the people in his kingdom.

The king is your villian, he is actually well written. I can't wait to find out over the next books what he will think of next and how in the end he will be taken down.

There were bits of this story that I really liked. I thought that Rufus and Tovey had absolutely scorching chemistry and they actually seemed quite well matched together. Rufus was brash, impulsive and protective whereas Tovey was more reflective and somewhat guarded. It was set in an interesting world and I'm glad they got their HEA but I did think that some bits were a little bit surface-level. I didn't really understand Tovey's sudden intense passion to fight back against his father so forcefully (obviously I could logically understand why but it didn't really fit with his behaviours before). I also didn't understand the constant leaving and back and forth. Essentially all the brothers have no real reason to leave so it felt a bit like mini-angst for no reason. As I said at the start, there were lots of parts I enjoyed and I'm interested to see where the series goes next.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.
