Cyrus: a Dark Tragic Love Story
"Cyrus" is a tragic love story about a vampire who tried and failed to avoid emotional attachments, only to get hurt in the end.
Lost in the consistent haze of bloodlust, Cyrus knew relationships would never be in the cards. His mind was too unstable, his needs too dark and dire. He did everything he could to manage and control his life. What he didn't plan for was meeting three people of nearly extreme personalities and the connections he would form.
A werewolf addict with an instant sexual attraction.
A human with dark thoughts and a past.
And a Wielder who was just unhinged as he was.
Not understanding what he felt for them left him in a whirlwind of emotion. Sex, blood, violence. He was used to that. Emotions, relationships, love... That was new for him. The rollercoaster he rode on was never ending. As life takes a tragic turn, he wondered how he'd move on.
How do you survive when you risk losing everything you ever had but didn't know you needed?
"Cyrus" is the first book of the "Blood & Hearts" Duology. While Book 1 is a tragedy, Book 2 is a Romance with a HEA.
As of 12/1/2025, A.E. Cosby now goes by A.E. Diaz

So. Many. Fluids
While this book is smut heavy - the underlying story is fantastic.
*Check your triggers*
Cyrus is a bloodthirsty vampire who is softened by a classy little human and snarky werewolf. Cyrus spends a good chunk of the first part of the book denying what he feels for these two - convinced love will only get in his way. This of course fails and Cyrus falls HARD.
Things go well for a while until Cyrus screws up spectacularly... Leaving him heartbroken. I knew this was a tragic story going into it but it RIPPED my heart out 💔
The only thing keeping me going - is that book 2 is an HEA.

Ok first off, I want to thank the author for the arc. I loved “The chaos welder” and have read almost all the books in the series (except the holiday one but eventually I’ll get there lol). Now for the review, I’m gonna give it 3.5 stars. I’m not gonna lie, this whole time I thought I was reading a novella that was just taking long. Come to find out it’s a whole novel lol, that is totally my fault. But I still feel like my feelings stand. It was a TAD BIT TOO LONG! Now I loved Killian in the beginning but once we got a taste of the toxic Aida, I was hooked in their story. They could have been MAGICCCC! Talking about “in another life”, HELL NO, IN THIS ONE!!!! lol And can we talk about their smut scenes! Lord have mercy, sexyyyyyyy. I felt like you can just see how much fun and how creative the author was feeling when writing the scenes with Aida in it. I just felt teased, and I resent the author for that (not really but low-key) Some of Killian and Cyrus’s scenes were good too but it got repetitive, and the same can be said about Bex’s scenes. I felt that Bex fell a little flat in comparison to the development of Aida and Killian. Really only Killian was really developed. There was the bits with Aida but I still don’t know the root of why she is the way she is. I’m hoping the next installment will shed some light on her as a character. I just felt like we had a story there with the whole killing thing and then it was just dropped. It made it feel more like a random thing rather than a start to understanding who she is. Idk I guess what I’m saying is I want more Aida lol. Also, I forgave the random scenes of office work and dates because I thought this was a novella but now knowing that this is a full novel, i felt we needed some more action. It was a lot of unnecessary repetitive “a war is coming, I have a lot of things to do” scenes that did not drive the story. It only started getting interesting when we got back to the timeline of what went down with the Chaos welder and Xavia and them. But that didn’t happen until all the way at the end, so I was a little checked out of the story, waiting for it to finish. Especially when Aida was low-key cast aside. She is what kept the story interesting. Also because I didn’t really understand Bex, or rather her storyline was glanced over, I couldn’t really care what happened to her. Killian was the only one I really kind of teared up for. But even that was a little like…HUH? I know it was supposed to be a “ah ha” moment, but I would have rather liked it to be like… “did he (you know what) or not” and just go to the funeral or something like that until the next book. I just felt like we got a rushed low-key chaotic fight scene and monologue that kind of didn’t fit him as a character. Idk it was good in the beginning but the ending kind of fell flat for me. I’m still excited to see how it evolves but yeah, a little sad. Could have been shorter and then I could have rated it higher. Cause when it was interesting, it was really interesting. Overall, an ok read if you’re invested in the series and the characters. But not completely obsessed like I wanted to be!

This book was such a cinematic experience that leaves you feeling so raw, but every moment is worth the experience.
Cyrus is a dark, romantic tragedy that follows a poly dynamic surrounding the main character Cyrus. An investigation of a mysterious serial killer is the tying force that brings Cyrus to meet Killian, Bex, and Aida. Their journey begins with wonderful, chance meetings that became a storyline that barely your soul unwillingly.
Each character brought a unique element to the plot that made its development truly special and fresh in its approach. With Cyrus, you meet a man that built walls that protected himself and others, but as the story continues we see the endearing nature of a loving man—with still so much to unveil. Bex was a reflection of a beautiful pain; they were a kind soul who reflected a human experience that words can’t express but your heart just knows. Aida was a wild ride but I loved every second of her character. Killian’s my baby—just as he’s with faults, his beauty in his life knows no bounds…but when he goes there, he GOES there.
You find these multi-layered characters carrying scars that make you wonder, endear yourself, and even shed a tear or two. The plot was also an engaging experience of action, mystery, and adventure that was just delicious to follow.
Thank you so much for the ARC opportunity, and I truly implore you all to read this book once it’s released.

An erotic, dark fantasy is the only way to describe this.
So much smut with a plot and heartbreaking twist.

Deliciously dark and tragically Beautiful.
Cyrus, holy F*ck. I’m torn between whether to sob (who am I kidding, I was sobbing big time) or take a cold shower from all the delicious cochinadas these characters were involved in. People say, "Las bishées chingonas no lloran," but coño, this bish is crying HARD, with a capital H. This story didn’t just tug at my heartstrings; it incinerated my poor little heart. And yet I need more. I cannot wait for part two.
Make sure you double and triple-check the content warnings because this book delves into some heavy topics. Again, CHECK THE TRIGGER WARNINGS. The author provides them on their website under content notes, in their books, and even includes a link in their social media profile. It explores raw human emotions and behaviors in a way that cuts deep. Despite all the characters being morally gray, some very morally black, there wasn’t a single one I didn’t love. Cyrus and Bex? Little Wolf? HOT and tragic. And Tristan? Even with his small appearances, I absolutely love him. I’m not usually into blondes, but I’ll make an exception for this Werito. Excuse me, light golden brown with natural greys that give it a healthy glow. He can string me up anytime he freaking wants. Honestly, I think he might be my favorite character.
This book is a whole experience; a dark, tragic romance with a touch of murder/mystery. And the spice? OFF. THE. CHARTS. The only thing missing is seeing this unfold on the big screen. Seriously, it feels like watching a movie, complete with background music and all. I absolutely love what A.E. Cosby does to elevate the reading experience. A lot of books have playlists for general vibes, and some even suggest looping two or three songs during certain chapters. But Cosby? They take it to a cinematic level, prompting you with footnotes on exactly when to start a song for a specific scene. If you love reading with a soundtrack, their books need to be on your shelf.
Thank you, A.E. Cosby, for providing me with an ARC and entrusting me with your work. All opinions in my review are entirely my own.

Cyrus is an obscure deep love tragedy. It's a paradox that has your soul craving things that you didn't know you wanted and hoping that somebody out there is watching over you when you need it the most.
The rawness, the feelings, and the passion... there are so many things this book stirs within you. It's gut retching, soul crushing, and mind-bending, in more ways than just "smut". Don't get me wrong, the smut is there, but the significance with each character and the bonding, it's very powerful.
People see the premise and judge by the "physical" themes without looking at the emotional and mental hurt these characters go through. It's a never closing wound, they keep trying to survive. The amazing care and deep sense of belonging the author poured into the pages is pure magic.
As a dark reader with pretty much 0 triggers, this book knocked me down, took my breath away, and gave a sense of cleansing. It deals with traumas and unexpected emotions at every turn.
I've read more dark books than I care to admit, and this one is definitely one of my tops 5 of all times. With that said, it is very dark, so please read the TW and CW. Your mental health always comes first, and Anissa always makes sure to create a detailed list to protect their readers.
DISCLAIMER: I'm honored to be part of their Alpha/Beta readers, with that said, my opinion on the author is totally my own opinion. If I love a book or support an author, you’ll know it and if I don’t like them, I will be very clear about it. It’s that simple! Life is too short, and I want to enjoy it with books I love. I did pre-ordered the book and I'll be buying the physical copy as well. Anissa has been one of my favorite authors for many reasons: they write to help others, they write for the people that can't, they write for mental health, they write for inclusivity, they write for disability, they write to help us feel a little lighter.

Absolutely pay attention to the fact that this book is not a romance, it is a romantic tragedy! Cyrus does an excellent job of exploring the complexities of relationships (friendships as well as romantic attachments) and doesn’t sugarcoat the messiness of being human (even if most of the characters aren’t!). If you’re already into The Chaos Wielder series- don’t skip this side piece. If you’re not, what are you waiting for??
I personally didn’t connect with a couple of the main characters in the way that I felt like I was supposed to- though I completely see how people will! And so I think some of the emotional impacts of this story may have been a bit lost on me. That being said, there were a lot of relationships I did totally get and connect with and very much enjoyed.
The spice in this book (series!) is off the charts and very well explored. I love the absolute filthiness of it all- be sure to heed the TW/CWs if you’re concerned- otherwise dive right in and enjoy!!
I also have to mention the excellent world-building and over-arching story of the whole series. It’s so interesting and imaginative and I can’t wait to see how the rest plays out. I really enjoyed seeing characters that we have gotten to know (or just met) in other books from a different perspective and in some ways it almost felt voyeuristic getting these other insights into their personal lives when we’ve only gotten to see their surface before. Lol it’s kind of like when a coworker invites you into their home for the first time- you get to see the *real* them.
Thank you to AE Cosby for the opportunity to read an advance copy of your story. I am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Damn, where to even begin. There were so many good things in this book. The unfolding of their relationships was very well done, and holy shit the (many, many) sex scenes were immaculate and so hot. Each character had their issues, and they each tried to navigate their relationships through (or despite) those issues. This story lets us know that some decisions cannot be taken back, and will have a domino effect.
Sometimes the storyline did confuse me a little, as some pieces were glossed over or skipped, in favour of the relationship storyline. But I do get that you can't write down every detail (or this book would've been waaay longer). I knew (and so should you) going in that this was not going to be a happy ending. And even though I usually hate that, I went through with the book and I am very glad I did. I'm happy I met Bex and Killian, and even Aida 😏 and I hope that Cyrus learns from this whole ordeal and makes better decisions in his HEA book (coming in 2026). I do recommend reading AE Cosby's other books first (the Chaos Wielder duet) as I felt like I missed some elements from the whole world building. But I still enjoyed this immensely!

AE Cosby warned that this was a tragedy and wow, they delivered!
So this book is simultaneously filthy and sad. It tackled topics like mental health and addiction. Of course, Cosby also has an in-depth trigger/content warning list and I will always praise them on their ability to put their reader’s mental health over shock and awe.
So let’s, get into it. Cyrus was one of the most interesting side characters in The Chaos Wielder so I JUMPED on the ARC train to learn more about him. This book is ripe with worldbuilding and it’s nice to see other characters like Tristan or (my love) Jacinto while the events of The Chaos Wielder are happening. That was really fun and I enjoyed that you could tandem read them for more context if you wanted to.
This book is SAD. It is a tragedy for a reason, but nothing comes out of left field. Cosby took great care in foreshadowing and that hard work paid off.
Another great book! I’m excited to see where the story goes next.

this was so amazing, and devastating, and beautiful, and heartbreaking, and spicy, gut-wrenching. i loved it all. i knew going into this, there would be no HEA and it would be a tough read, and with that knowledge, i continued. i continued even though i started falling in love with the characters, and i knew that was dangerous for this book. i continued even after taking a little break, because i didn't want it to end because i knew it would be bad. i continued and i hated it and loved it so incredibly much. this is a book that i will continue to think about for the foreseeable future. it's a book that makes me rethink howi i rate books because it feels like it's on another level because i will carry this story with me for a long time. i can't wait to read more from this author and for them to potentially break my heart again!

Holy crap. The author warned that this book would be dark but I still did not expect THIS book. Cyrus wasn't just your average dark, tragic love story. It was emotionally and mentally dark as well. But the beauty of this story is while it is SO dark and terribly tragic, it's also funny, beautiful, hopeful, and really freaking hot. A.E. Cosby has somehow made a tragic love story, beyond worth the pain with the beautiful way they explored unconventional relationships and the way what we consider our darkest parts, are actually the parts that someone else finds beautiful. I was shocked yet also expected the amount of things that made my jaw drop in this story, yet I am still clamoring, waiting for book two..

This is book 1 of the Blood & Hearts duology. If you've read this author's other work, then you'll recognize this character. Well, this is his tragic love story. It follows him through his journey of finding something close to love, even knowing that it was never for him.
Just thinking about writing this review, i'm holding back my tears. The story is very dark and extremely emotional. Cyrus has found 3 different people to fill the void in different ways but all emotionally and physically. The spice is out of this world and so chaotic. You get polyromance, lovers to enemies, but also enemies to lovers, werewolves, vampires, and kinks(please see triggers). But what I truly got from this story was lots of tears. I dont know how im supposed to wait for book two.

This book is SPICY. This book is dark. This book is tragic and does not end in an HEA. I didn’t have an issue reading this book, but it is definitely not for the faint of heart or any pearl clutchers for sure. Lots of snark, banter, degradation, some BDSM, some suspense and some tough topics of addiction, suicide, and past regrets. The ending is not what I expected and I really was not happy with the outcome…I was heartbroken and disappointed in the character, but I also understood why things were done at the time. It’s unfortunate that the second book won’t be out until next year. Otherwise, great story!

Oh my good heavens, the spice. Five chili peppers. Hands down.
And there's a lot of it. It is very much a schmex driven story.
Outside of the spice, the storyline is intriguing. Cyrus gives me lone wolf searching for his pack vibes. Obviously, he's a vampire, though he does fall for a werewolf. And a human. And finds himself in a storm wielder.
Downsides for me, I wish there was more world building. The world itself is fascinating and captured my attention. I just... wanted more. (Yes, I know there are other stories set in the same world, Wrath's Daughter, but I haven't read that yet).
Do read the trigger warning list before starting this story and be warned that there is no HEA.
That being said, I am quite interested to see where the story goes with the second installment of the duet after how this one ended. Talk about heartbreak.

Dont get me wrong, CYRUS: A dark tragic love story was good, and I did enjoy it, but it didn't come close to touching Chaos Wielder for me, and here is why.
Honestly, there were some fantastic characters and world building in it, but the pacing just wasn't as on point as the other books. What about the smut, though, you ask? The smut was smutting. When it comes to those types of scenes, Cosby is * chefs kiss*.
The title wasn't lying about this being tragic, either. So be prepared for more than your panties to get wet reading this one!
Overall, I enjoyed reading this book, and I will continue to get lost in these worlds every opportunity I have. I truly look forward to seeing what's next from Cosby.
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you so much for this ARC! 🥹
I felt SO seen in some of Killian's struggles, and even in Cyrus. This book had me ugly crying and wishing I could physically be with these characters so I could cry with them. The amount of tears that @aecosbyauthor has pulled from me between her books 😫🤣
And I LOVED that we see my man Tristan 😏 this other side of him had me drooling for him even more. This man can do no wrong I'm sorry 🤣

I loved Cyrus's character so much in The Chaos Wielder, and when I heard A.E. was writing his story, I was so damn excited. Like, yes, give me more of this dangerous vampire. This book is such a fantastic, tragic start to his story, and I can't wait for 2026 and book 2 because I need more. I thought I was ready for how tragically this one would end, but nope, I definitely sobbed and need him to get his HEA.

Holy shit!! This book starts off hot and steamy and takes you through the story of Cyrus, one of the side characters from The Chaos Wielder. Cryus’ story is very raw and complicated and full of sexiest scenes you’ll find! This is NOT a romance so it does not end in HEA. It is messy and it real. You will enjoy every second of it and the ending will leave you eager for book 2.

Dripping with delicious depravity, where every character is morally questionable, wrapped in the stunning imagery of the world found in their other works, author A. E. Cosby has written an engrossing and devastating tale of erotic horror. This book will rip your heart out, bury itself in its place, and heal the deepest parts of you.
Cyrus is a polyamorous romantic tragedy with four significant characters and the actions that lead them to an undesirable end. Intense chemistry between well-rounded personalities, even the secondary characters, and an unpredictable plot are only a small sample of how this book showcases Cosby's range.
Featuring heavy topics and themes, the author expertly conveys each character's emotions and feelings subtly while keeping the story written in singular POV. This impressive writing style is evident in the more intense scenes.
Aside from the serious aspects, this novel is deliciously filthy and practically sticky with the amount of bodily fluids depicted throughout. The spice, as always, is top shelf quality.
Cyrus is book one of the Blood & Hearts Duology and may be read before The Chaos Series. I must say, reading this first might make certain details in The Chaos Series even sweeter.
I had the honor of receiving this as an ARC and highly recommend it. It's the 4th book by A. E. Cosby that I've read and absolutely loved it and cannot wait to see what Cosby achieves next!

I LOVED this book. Going into this I knew there would be no HEA so I tried to prepare myself for the ending and let me tell you, I was NOT prepared. This is definitely a erotic book but it had a good plot and I love how it's linked to the other Chaos series books. Cyrus avoided love and still ended up finding it and then losing it so quickly was just so sad. But I am so happy to hear that there will be a second book for Cyrus and I can't wait to read it!!!
Spoilers ahead:
Aida is EVERYTHING in this book to me I absolutely loved her and wanted her to be Cyrus' at the end, at least just her if no one else lol but of course, this was a tragedy so I knew deep down the whole time they wouldn't end up together. Her chaoticness and his together was just *chefs kiss* Cyrus' relationships with Bex and Killian were good too but I will admit I couldn't trust Bex the ENTIRE book because they were a spy so I kept expecting them to betray Cyrus, Killian and/or Aida the whole time. After what happens to Killian at the end (I was sorta expecting the first part of what happened but not Cyrus' reaction) I was so upset and sad but, I loved it because it made such a good story and I feel like its such a good set up for the next book. What happened with Bex didn't effect me as much. I didn't feel as attached to them as I did Aida and Killian. But I think it's because they were a spy so I low key was just suspicious of everything they did 😅 Still it was sad seeing Cyrus' reaction to what happened with Bex. What happens with Aida is honestly the saddest part for me because I just loved her with Cyrus so much 😭 I just want to pretend they end up together and live happily ever after murdering people together and having the best sexy time forever and ever is that too much to ask?!
