It CAN Happen to You! : Don't be a Victim!

Rate this book
It Could Happen to You! Many people's lives are filled with fears, phobias, and anxiety. Many individuals have legitimate fears of being mugged, carjacked, or sexually assaulted. The fear of becoming a victim is very real. Sadly, this fear prevents many people from carrying out their daily routines and activities. This book is about preventing crime rather than simply reacting to it. When you dial 911, that usually means a crime has already occurred. When the police arrive, the perpetrator is long gone. Sadly, we can't turn back time to undo our mistakes. We need to fight back, not necessarily by physical force but by being vigilant, using our heads and our senses. We should not allow thugs and criminals to dictate how we live our lives. Don't become a victim!

Reading It CAN Happen to You!: Don’t Be a Victim! by James E. Hawkins really made me pause and think about how often people overlook their own personal safety in everyday situations. What I appreciated most about this book is how direct and practical it is from beginning to end.

The author does not waste time with unnecessary complexity. Instead, he focuses on real life scenarios that anyone could face and breaks them down into clear, understandable actions. That makes the book feel accessible to a wide range of readers, whether you are young, experienced, or just starting to think more seriously about personal safety.

One of the strongest aspects of this book is how grounded it feels. You can tell that the advice is coming from real knowledge and experience, not just theory. That gives the content more weight and makes it easier to trust what is being said. It is not written to scare you, but to make you more aware, more alert, and more prepared.

I also found it valuable how the book emphasizes awareness over fear. Instead of making the reader feel anxious, it encourages a mindset shift. It shows that small habits, better attention to your surroundings, and simple precautions can make a significant difference in protecting yourself and your loved ones.
Another thing that stood out is how useful this book could be for families. It is something that can easily be shared with teenagers or young adults who are just starting to navigate the world more independently. The lessons here are not just important, they are necessary.

Overall, this is not just a book you read once and forget. It is something you can come back to, reflect on, and even apply daily. It opens your eyes in a subtle but effective way, and that is what makes it such a strong and worthwhile read

This book is good reference material for your adolescent/teenage child on how to negotiate different situations where they could potentially be the victim of a crime.
