Rate this book
When Jack Young receives news of his estranged father's death, he's relieved to be freed from the ramblings of a madman. Heading to the town of Stone Creek, he prepares his father's eccentric mountain cabin for sale, but discovers a secret tunnel beneath it that disrupts his plans.

Hidden away in an underground cavern, he finds Cà Rá, a young woman with cosmic origins who claims to be his father's friend. As guardian of the mysterious Empyreax device, she warns Jack of an imminent danger that will annihilate the planet.

But Jack's not the only one who's arrived in town. Demi Carver-a doomsday cult fanatic with an interstellar secret of his own-is hunting for the Empyreax and will kill anyone who gets in his way.

Bound by an oath to protect Jack, Cà Rá is his last defense against Demi's growing dark forces. When she is captured, Jack finds himself reluctantly drawn back into his father's world, teetering on the edge of reality.

Fighting back against the clutches of fate, he must unravel the tangled clues his father left behind before Demi can ignite the spark that will torch humanity.

Here's what readers are saying:

"Empyreax is a rollicking ride that very much reminded me of the sci-fi shows of my youth."

"When I hit Act III, I couldn't stop reading. I needed to find out what happened next."

Reads like a movie! Heavy on plot with a balanced mix of humor, action and suspense. Lot's of unique aspects in writing regarding the protagonist and his ally's and antagonists. I am not a huge sci-fi/horror genre fan, but I really enjoyed this read from the authors debut novel. Can't wait for future projects!

What an intricate world this author has built! He has a way to make you care about the small characters throughout, the good, the bad, the sly, the innocent. I’m not normally a Sci-Fi reader, but I thoroughly enjoyed the story. The world building, the pacing, the attention to details, and the sentimental theme of the story, all combined into a wonderful, action-packed adventure. I’d highly recommend this book to any Sci-Fi fan who enjoys action as well as character emotions, and especially if you love a good father-and-son theme. Looking forward to the sequel!

Have you ever wondered if there was more out there? If maybe the neighbor who seemed a little off wasn’t actually from this world? In Empyreax: The Rise of Cà Rá by Scott Frost, we follow Jack who is dealing with the aftermath of his eccentric father’s death. He goes to his father’s cabin hidden up a mountain path to prepare it for selling, only to find a hidden tunnel and a mysterious woman, Cà Rá, who seems to have cosmic origins. She helps him to find a message left for him by his father while they are also trying to prevent a doomsday cult fanatic from finding the Empyreax and the key that will open it.

Empyreax: The Rise of Cà Rá by Scott Frost is an edge of the seat science fiction with hints of thriller thrown in. As far as content, there is a moderate amount of cursing and a lot of violence. There was a closed door bedroom scene and some mentions of nudity. I would definitely recommend this for an adult audience who loves science fiction with a twist of saving the world. Very action packed with bits of humor thrown throughout the entire book! I definitely would recommend this to anyone who loves a good science fiction book!

Did Not Finish

I was enjoying elements of it, and think there is a really great world in here, but I struggled with the dialog and convenient coincidences and wasn't able to finish. I may come back to it when my life is a little less hectic and I can be more focused.

This was a really wild read! From the first chapter, Frost grabs your attention and creates a mystery to decipher that takes the rest of the book to fully understand. He allows for both mundane moments and action-packed moments so that the reader is not left overwhelmed or underwhelmed throughout the story. A really good balance. The layout of the story is not much more than one city, but the description of the city is done in a way that you can follow along as he travels to find the missing pieces needed for the key.

The characters were also given very human characteristics. They didn’t focus only on one thing, but had multiple storylines to help give them some depth. Diving into each character and how they interacted was very well done as well. I did not struggle with feeling like some of the actions were out there or exaggerated. And the growth of the characters, especially Jack as he learned more about his dad and what he had been hiding, was very believable.

There are multiple points of view, even though Jack is the main one. This was done so that there is a complete picture of what is going on, while also giving hints at different parts of the story. As Jack is in the dark in the beginning and learning throughout, this allows the reader to have a bit of insight and creates an even more interesting read as they put together what is fully going on and what exactly it means for Jack and the rest of humanity.

Empyreax: The Rise of Cà Rá by Scott Frost is an edge-of-the-seat science fiction read with hints of thriller thrown in.
