My name is Melodi White, I had a dream once like every other girl does. Then one day, my dream was torn to shreds, by my sister’s evil boyfriend, Jacob. It’s been three years since she was ripped from my life. She wasn’t just any sister; no, she was my twin, my best friend.
Deciding to follow our childhood dream of moving to New York, I head for a life of adventure and fun. A night on the town and I find myself wrapped in the arms of one gorgeous, drop-dead-sexy man, Corban. He has literally swept me off my feet, taken my breath away with a single kiss and left me wanting more, a feeling completely alien to me.
Corban Andrews, CEO of Case Construction, rich, sexy and ravishing is set to make my world come undone. I allow myself to put my trust in him, but will his rules and my trust issues let us explore what we could have together? It’s either that or am I at risk of staying lost and alone.
When a blast from my past reappears, I know I may be pushed so far down the rabbit hole, Corban and I just may not survive. It all comes down to survival and choices. I have no idea which I will choose.
Liz is from bright sunny Queensland, Australia. She has always been a reader. When she was little she would be up late reading Garfield and Asterix comic books and also Footrot Flats. When she hit high school she read Tomorrow When the War Began by John Marsden and from there, her love of books continued to grow. She always has a book to read beside her bed along with a notebook for when inspiration hits at those crazy hours.
She is a stationary addict and a one-click addict. She loves everything books, authors and of course loves chocolate and lollies to keep her going.
The Lost One (The Lost Series #1) is the debut novel from up and coming new author Liz Lovelock.
Melodi, the lead female in The Lost One by Liz Lovelock, is feisty and yet so innocent. I love her character and the way that she develops through the story. She feels like she’s lost, since the death of her twin sister, Abby. Melodi has been struggling to come to terms with her grief over the death of her twin sister, but as the saying goes, 'life must go on', so she makes the brave move to New York to start over.
Melodi decides she needs to start working, so she applies for a job at Case Constructions, this is when her world is turned upside down. CEO and her new boss, Corban Andrews is one sexy, rich and powerful man. Oh, did I mention, sexy? Their attraction is instantaneous. The problem is when she meets Corban for the first time, it's not at work, it's at a club when she is drunk and stumbling down the stairs.
They share a moment together, which is out of character for Melodi. She, of course, has her trust issues which relate back to the murder of her sister. So she flee's the grips of Corban, only to meet him again at her new job, as her boss.
Things are awkward, but the attraction is mutual. Sometimes men can be difficult and push you away when they want you the most.
Melodi's trust issues surface, but their relationship continues, eventually falling for each other. Just when things are going smoothly, something is bound to happen, right? Well, you guessed it, their world is jolted when a ‘blast from the past’ returns wreaking havoc and causing mayhem. It does end on a tiny cliffhanger, but oh, what a shock it is, a great one!
The book is a great read and I loved every second of it. I recommend it and give the book Five Golden Stars. Well done Liz, a great effort for your debut novel!
I really wanted to enjoy this but just couldn't. I skipped through most of it when I couldn't take it anymore. Melodi and Corban's story was just to unbelievable for me. After a kiss in a club and a kiss on a sidewalk they're falling in love. She ends up being his PA, he tells her they can't happen, she gets upset, and then she's happy to be at his party. She's happy then angry then sad and he's...I don't know what he is. I don't know if he is supposed to be an alpha male character but he definitely isn't my type of alpha male. The synopsis drew me in but unfortunately I just couldn't stay interested.
For those who know me and follow The Phantom Paragrapher, you will know that I am one of those people that are forever reading books out of order. I don't do it on purpose, but more often than not, it just happens that way. This particular series, I read Book #2 back in January 2016 and as I remember books I knew a little bit of what I was in for. In The Lost One, we meet twins Abby and Melodie White. Abby we learn was in a toxic relationship and tried to break up with her boyfriend, and that night she went missing. A pile of her blood was found in her boyfriend's apartment but due to the fact the evidence was circumstantial and no body, he got off. Now three years later, Melodie has moved to New York and made a great friend. Her friend has organized for her to have an interview at Case Constructions as the PA to the owner Mr. Andrews. Melodie gets the job and turns out her new boss is the hottie Corban whom she met a few nights ago. Corban wants to get to know Melodie, but of course, due to her sister, she is reluctant not to fall in love. What will happen when Melodie is confronted by her sister's ex-boyfriend and told she is still alive? Is Abby still alive and out there? Will Melodi open her heart to Corban? Find out in Book #1 The Lost One by Liz Lovelock. A good NA romantic suspense series.
Oh please... The writing was bad. The characters were immature and funny and for GOD SAKE stop use the virgin type of girls/women that in one minute turns to be sex experience and the instant love- you- always- and -forever situation.
This is a new author to me and the synopsis intrigued me so I decided to read it and I am so glad I did. This book was beautiful written and ended with me wanting so much more. This book was about learning to love your life and find love. This book did have twists and turns. It had moments that stunned me. This book was honestly the complete package though I wanted more steam.
This is Melodi and Corban's story. Melodi has been living in hell for the past couple of years. When a tragedy struck and shocked her to the core, she has been living as a shadow of the girl she use to be. So present day, she is currently living in New York trying to move on, she begins to live again. She has two amazing friends. But a night out on the town with her bestie Flick has her in the arms of a mysterious, sexy stranger who just happens to be her future boss. When she meets the sexy Corban, she feels a connection to him. But life is not easy and our past has a way of coming back to haunt us.
I loved Corban and Melodi together. This book opened giving us a glimpse into Melodi's life when it was shattered apart. I could feel her pain and emotion pouring off of the pages. I also loved Corban. You could feel the chemistry between these two and how it just get stronger as they got closer. I wanted more steam between them though but that's just a personal preference.
Ok I so did not realize this book ended on a cliffhanger but yes, it does! I am hoping we get the next book to this series soon!
Oh wow. What a fantastic debut novel this was. I literally read this in one sitting.
I got a feeling I'm gonna struggle to review this. I don't wanna drop any spoilers so I'm just gonna tell you how I feel. Speechless. Gobsmacked. So happy that I read this book.
Melodi is a great character. Although I found her a little immature at times I still love her. My heart went out to her. Corban. Oh I so want my own Corban. During the last bit of this book I thought my heart would jump out of me as it was beating that hard.
This book does end in a cliffhanger. I've no idea when the next book in this series is out but I really hope we don't have to wait too long.
Overall I enjoyed this book. I understand that after everything that happened with her sister she would have some issues but she shouldn't have been like that for so long with Corban. He was such a nice guy from the start. Thankfully everything worked out between them. The ending was a nice shocker too.
I am really amazed that the author kept my attention like she did with this story. I feel like I am on a heavy overload with a sentimental romance theme lately but the author of The Lost One enhanced that with some raw emotions that made the romance aspect a side issue as I read.
The synopsis does justice to this book description but doesn’t give you the full list of things you will encounter with Melodi and Corban. Adding in the side characters such as parents, siblings and best friends, you have a whole package of organized chaos that took me on an awesome ride as the story unfolded.
Melodi isn’t your normal tragic character. While she ended up being the victim in the worst way, she never used that status to define who she was. She had loving parents, a twin sister that she loved and adored. Grew up in a nice location, was happy and had all of the normal events you would expect in what we would call the “American dream” lifestyle, until her sister Abby brought home her boyfriend. It was then that Melodi was exposed to bruises on the skin and the emotional distance and depression that her sister Abby carried. Not knowing how to fix this for her twin, she did what she knew to do, which wasn’t a lot in the survival category because she never had to “survive”. When Abby decided it was time to get out of this relationship she appeared happy and Melodi was relieved to know that this nightmare was about to be over, but then Abby never came home.
It has been three years that Melodi has felt half of her heart and soul missing and the guilt is eating her alive. Panic attacks and fear paralyze her at times. Yes losing a sibling in this manner can be life crushing, but to be a twin that is so connected, part of Melodi not only felt the terror, she felt the void stronger than any other.
She is a strong woman though, she decides to carry out her and Abby’s dream and she begins a life in the big city. When she finds a job that appears to be a perfect fit for her, Melodi doesn’t realize that she will also gain more love and acceptance along with some answers to the questions she hasn’t ever had the courage to ask. She meets Corban before she realizes he will be her boss and instantly she is beginning to believe that life with a man is not going to be easy to come by for her, just as it wasn’t for Abby.
Corban also comes from a wonderful family, if you exclude his sister Athena. He impressed me as a man who doesn’t ooze alpha strength and attitude but he is more than capable of not only satisfying his woman but protecting her at the same time. He knows how to soothe her during panic attacks, calm her down in fits of rage and balance her grief with her happiness in order to give her permission to carry on in life without her twin. Without knowing what she is really feeling he appears to have the answers and solutions to her being stuck in the grieving process. When danger presents itself in this story, Corban keeps a level head about him and builds a protection around Melodi in order to keep her safe. He wants to marry her and before this book ends we will see that this could be the best thing for both of them.
I am not going to give away any spoilers but there is a cliff hanger at the end. While it is pretty predictable, I have to stress I didn’t feel the same disappointment with the predictability like I do in other books. It left me clearly with a need to read the second book when it is released but I didn’t have the angst of feeling like I had been strung along and left dangling with raw emotions. I really enjoyed this story, it was very well written, giving a consistent balance of excitement, drama and development of the relationship. I didn’t feel like I was bored at all and I really loved getting to know all of the characters involved. I would highly recommend this book for readers looking for something between fluffy romance and human angst.
Melodi is devastated and angry when her twin sister, Abby, disappears and there is no doubt in her mind that her abusive boyfriend is the one who has killed her and hidden the body but due to lack of evidence he walks free. A few years later Melodi is trying to move on with her life in New York and very quickly she meets and falls for the very handsome Corban. Soon Melodi's past and Abby's disappearance comes rushing back to the present. Nothing is as it seems and danger is around the corner for everyone involved.
"That is why I am to blame for what happened. When she left that night, I never thought it would be the last time I would get to see her. Then she was gone, missing. My world has never been the same again, and my heart is broken, shattered into a million pieces."
I was completely split down the middle with this story. On one hand I loved it because the plot is thrilling and exciting and really captivated me. On the other hand I thought the writing and language used didn't always fit or flow correctly and sounded a bit young.
"This is what we needed, all of us. To let go of that anger of losing her. To move on, but never forget her. She is engraved in our hearts for time and all eternity."
Let me start with what I loved. The Plot! It was thrilling, exciting, passionate and kept you guessing. I'm not going to say much because I don't want to give anything away but there were definitely some twists I didn't see coming and it was so fast paced which is what I look for in a book. The characters were also brilliant. Melodi was sweet, passionate, brave and strong-minded and Corban was the classic rich, handsome, protective alpha we all love to read about. The supporting characters such as Rachael, Blake, Flick etc were also great and all added their little something to the story itself.
"After the loss of Abby, I vowed to never trust another man again, but he brings out a side of me I enjoy, crave, and want to live for. He makes me a stronger, confident person."
Now the slightly bad; I did think the writing and words used sounded a bit immature at times, it didn't fit in with the story and the flow wasn't quite there. How quickly they fell in love was just too un-realistic for me to not comment on it.
“You have stuck me back together, which is something I never thought would happen. I have felt broken and lost since losing Abby, but since you weaved your way into my life, you have helped me feel."
If the author can mature her writing a little more this will be a 5 star book without a doubt. Despite the bad I am definitely going to be reading the next book after that cliffhanger of an ending which I didn't see coming and I can't wait to see the progress this author makes.

Melodi has suffered tragedy by losing her twin sister at the hands of her sister's boyfriend. After wandering through the last 3 years of her life she realizes that she is not going to get anywhere or heal if she doesnt get out of there and she decides to make her life long dream of moving to NYC come true.
Once in NYC, she finds a job at Case Constructions. Then one night to celebrate her new life and job, she runs into the CEO, Mr Corban Andrews, and in that instant she has an experience that will change her life.
Unfortunately, the night that Corban and Melodi meet, she is drunk and literally falling down the steps when he sweeps her off her feet and into his arms. Can you say awkward?
Once the two realize that they are actually employee and employer, they have to decide whether they want a relationship outside of work? Corban has strict rules about dating employees, and well Melodi is not sure she wants to date anyone.
Over the course of the book, their relationship progresses and Corban chips away at Melodis interior and exterior guards.
And just when you see a HEA on the horizon, something bad happens and tests both Melodi and Corban as well as their feelings for one another. Some people believe that the past can only haunt you in your dreams but for Melodi, her past has come to haunt her in her everyday waking life as well.
There is a cliffhanger but it was worth it! Now we wait to see whats next from Liz Lovelock and Melodi and Corban's story.
“His thumb rubs over the back of my hand, sending my head swimming with longing for his touch over my entire body. I have never craved someone to touch me in this way, but Corban is someone I never thought I would find.”
“Can I slap her?” I don’t care if she is his sister or not. She has done her dash with me, and if you wanna be rude to me, you’re cut and I won’t even bother with you again.”
My Review:
The story starts of on a somber note, stays there for a while, and frequently circles back to those low notes, due to the tragic and traumatic loss of the character’s twin sister. When the main character - Melodi - moves to a new city, hoping to start over, her adventure begins. The story moves rather slowly, and feels like a drama, but it does pick up. The writing is easy to follow and I enjoyed the use humor and the klutziness of Melodi. I like feisty gals, although Melodi seemed a bit immature for my taste, and I wanted her sweetie to smack her in the back of the head for the way she treated him. This is not a sizzler, yet is too steamy to be considered YA, so I would tag it a mild New Adult with elements of suspense. I see this is listed as her debut work, and is a good start for a new author. I am intrigued and want to know what happens next, but huffed and puffed with major aggravation due to the cliffhanger – I hate those ;(
Don’t you love it when a book surprises you…in a good way? After I read the synopsis of The Lost One, I knew that I would like this book. Well, I didn’t like it, I LOVED it! I’ll admit it was the beautiful cover which first attracted me to The Lost One. However, I’m finding it difficult to pinpoint what I liked most about it. I was drawn into this story as soon as I read the prologue. This was when I knew it would be an emotional read. I connected with Melodi and I felt her pain and happiness and everything in between. (That’s a BIG plus for me.) Then as I got into it, not only did I fall in love with Melodi, I fell in love with Corbin and all of Melodi’s friends. But there were also characters that I hated, but they deserved it. But I think the thing, I liked most was the layers. This wasn’t a one-dimensional read. There were a few story lines which, at first, seemed separate but gradually became entwined. There are also a few threads that are unresolved which means I want to read the next book in the series as soon as possible. I gave The Lost One 5 stars. Written by Karen from A Thousand Lives Book Blog
The Lost One 4 Stars Melodi is a strong, sassy young woman. I like that the story started with a bang, a tragedy. The tragedy gives you a lot of character development and you can understand why Melodi has walls around her heart. The Lost One goes smoothly with a lot of quirks from Melodi and her supporting friends. It is an instalove novel and although I am not a usual fan, in The Lost One you feel the chemistry between her and Corban. This book is not what I thought it would be. There is a nice little surprise, suspense and twist that I am anxious to read about. Overall, for a debut novel, it is a good read of first love, amazing friends and mystery.
Melodi is lost. The sudden and mysterious disappearance of her twin sister, Abby, turned her world upside down. When foul play is suspected and her abusive ex is is found not guilty of the charges, Melodi is beside herself. Who does she turn to? Her sexy boyfriend and boss Corben.
The Lost One is more of a romance with suspense added in, which I liked. Corben is super hot and a dreamy boyfriend. While the author's writing style was not my favorite, I appreciated her effort and for that
I give The Lost One 3.5 stars.

3.5 Stars It was a Debut novel by a new Author Liz Lovelock. The story starts with a tragedy. Melodie White loses her sister and moves to New York to start a new life where she meets the CEO of Case Construction Mr Corban Andrews. She had some trust issues in tbe beginning but then they hold on to each other. The story rises in the last quarter of the book where the characters from Melodie's past return, and the story starts gripping up. It is a cliffhanger so i will be waiting for the next book in this series. It was a good book with sufficient amount of feels and emotions.
I really enjoyed this book totally took me by surprise it deals with some very difficult issues and Liz has dealt with them perfect i really was hooked to this book and was gutted at the end i cant wait for book two.
Interesting read. There is a bit of suspense, intrigue and lots of romance/love. I enjoyed getting to know Melodi and her story. I am looking forward to seeing how this story plays out.
I wasn't sure throughout the book, if I would bother to finish it, never mind read book two. Sometimes Melodi got on my nerves. She would cry and break down at the drop of a hat. Then there was the times she would go on about how Corben's scent would centre her after only knowing him a few days. Some of the descriptive text was repetative, like whenever Corben cuddled her, it was always behind and his hands would always go round her waist. There never seemed to be any other way he would initiate contact. I found myself skimming a lot of the book and didn't feel like I missed anything. However, the end if the book has me intrigued and I will now see how this ends out.
Melodi White finally decided to stop dreaming and move to New York. It was both her and her twin sister Abby’s dreams to live there but it’s been three years since Abby was murder and it was time to move on. After living there for a couple months, Melodi has made some good friends and finally landed a job at Case Construction. To celebrate she goes to her favorite bar with her friends and meets a handsome stranger who she end up kissing. She’s never felt this way before and after everything that happened with her sister, Melodi never thought she’d fall for man. Little does Melodi know he’s not just any man and he may be the one to end up breaking her heart? I was given this in exchange for an honest review. Melodi is a sassy, strong-willed, independent woman with trust issue and no one can blame her after what her family went through with Abby’s death. Melodi keeps the memory of Abby safeguarded and close her heart. She only shares her with the few people she trusts the most. Meeting Corban Andrews has turned her world upside-down, the attraction to him is so strong she can’t deny it but trusting him is quite difficult for her. Melodi put a good effort into out trying to keep things in the office professional, but no matter what she does the attraction is still there. Corban is a strong, sexy, confident man who doesn’t usually commit to one woman and is consider to be a player amongst his friends. He doesn’t trust woman to want to be with him for who he is and not for his money. On top of that he runs a very successful business, which keeps him busy. Running into Melodi at his club caught him off-guard as there was an instant attraction felt by both of them. The kiss they shared was unforgettable but Melodi is off limits. She is his new assistant and his company has rules that should stop him for dating her. I have to give him credit for trying to stick to those rules but as the saying goes, the heart wants, what the heart wants and he can’t deny that his heart wants Melodi. I love that Rachel was the only person working close to Melodi and turns out to be Corban’s sister. She takes things into her own hands to bring these two together. You would never know that Rachel and Corban both grew up in a rich family because how they treat and respect everyone they meet. Rachel boyfriend Axel, the bad boy tattoo artist shows just how pure of heart Rachel is and how she and Corban don’t judge a book by it cover. Blake is the police officer who was introduced in the prologue but shows up suddenly in New York after Melodi starts working for Case Construction. At first I was wondering what game he was playing but then a few other twist came about and things started to come to together. This may be a debut novel for Liz Lovelock but she has the makings of being an amazing writer. I was hooked from just reading the prologue. The many twist and turns she took throughout the book kept me guessing what was going to happen next. The characters were well written and she had me falling in love with them. This book has the perfect amount of suspense and romance to keep me coming back for more. Liz ended this book in just the right way to keep her readers on the edge of their seats. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series as she left us with more questions than answers. I highly recommend this to my fellow readers.

4 Stars!
This was a good, easy, and suspenseful read! It had my eyes watering in the Prologue! Melodi is trying to get over the loss of her twin sister. Melodi has always dreamt about living in New York, so when the opportunity comes to start a new life, without the memories of her families lost, she makes the big move.
Now that Melodi is living life in New York, she's enjoying herself with her friends. One night while enjoying the night life she finds herself in the arms of Corban! Right away she feels the reaction that Corban brings to her body and can't explain it. With the history she has with her sisters, she has had a fear towards men and never puts herself in direct contact with a male. In result, when Corban touches her and feels the electric currents that run through her, she realizes that he makes her want more!!
Corban feels that his life is too busy for a relationship and since Melodi is definitely off limits...he questions the pull he has towards Melodi. He can't help but to deny his own rules.
In the beginning, Melodi doesn't tell Corban about her history with her sister. She's not ready to confide in him when it comes to bringing up her past. However; throughout the relationship, Meldoi has reactions to things that cause her to shut down. Little by little Corban starts to realize she's hiding something from him. Until one day, her past comes to haunt her, and she has no choice but to come clean with him. Once everything is out in the open, Corban does everything he can to show his support and convince her she can trust him. Their relationship starts to get stronger, and Melodi starts to feel whole again.....
"You have stuck me back togther, which is something I never thought would happen. I have felt broken and lost since losing Abby, but since you weaved your way into my life, you have helped me feel. I never thought I would be able to feel for anyone, becasue of my fear of men. Even knowing I was in the same room as that vile pig today, I'm at peace and I can begin to gain closure and move on."
Corban's feelings for Melodi are stronger then he thought possible...
"You're beautiful, Melodi. I want to spend every waking moment with you. You make me complete. From the moment I caught you falling down the stairs, you have owned my heart. I don't want anyone else but you."
I also liked Rachel's character and there's something about Blake that I want to know more about! He seems so genuine and sounds pretty hot, so I'm hoping we hear more about him in the next book! This was a good love story with a few suspenseful things that go on throughout the book. There's also something about Corban's younger sister that I can't quite put my finger on, but I have a feeling that her kindness towards the end of the book is not real. I think she is behind something or working with someone. I can't wait to see what happens in this area of the story. As for the ending, OMG!! I definitely can't wait for Book 2 to be released. It looks like it's going to be good! This was a great start to a good Series!

This book opens up introducing you to Melodi, a sister's grief. It makes you aware just how broken this family is because of what happened to their loved one and how broken they will be through out this book. Then Time fast forwards 3 years and Melodi is still broken but moving on and learning to be happy. Learning to live again. I adored this book and I am anxiously awaiting book 2!
We meet Melodi as she is grieving for her sister Abby. This gets you ready for how she will react to many things throughout the whole book and understand her reactions. She had just moved to New York a childhood dream she and her sister had had and now she is having to do it alone. Luckily for her when she gets there she meets Felicity or as she calls her Flick who takes her under her wing and shows her how to live a little. While out doing some of that living, Melodi literally falls into arms of the most handsome man she has ever encountered. He helps her up the stairs and they share an earth shattering kiss before she is whisked away by her best friend.
Corban Andrews is the CEO of Case Construction, and he has a problem trusting a woman's interest in him. Whether she likes him for his money, power, connections, or himself. When Melodi falls on him at the club and didn't have a clue who he was he enjoyed the moment. The kiss they shared was unexpected and startling in its power. Finding out who SHE was was just as startling, but not deterring.
They have a a rocky relationship from the get go. He has his issues and she has hers, but they can't stay away from each other. Then her world begins to crash around her when one of her greatest nightmares shows up. Not knowing what to do and choices have to be made. This puts a lot of strain on an already delicate relationship. Can they keep it together?
Oh my goodness!! I can't tell you how much I loved this book!! The characters were wonderful. They didn't feel forced nor did they make it feel too easy. When the emotions became high it was easy to empathize and when the tension started building I was on the edge of my seat! It will be hard waiting for book 2 but I will be one of the first to purchase it. This author kept me stuck to the page waiting to see what would happen.
☆ I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. ☆
The Lost One is Liz Lovelock’s debut novel. This was an amazing debut and 5 stars are not nearly enough to show how much I loved it. If her next books are anything like this one, she has a very bright future ahead as an author.
The book grabbed me from the very first chapter and wouldn’t let me go. I found myself neglecting all my household duties I had planned for the day (luckily it was my day off from work) as well as everyone that was around me. Corban was dreamy and insanely sexy. The attraction between Melodi and Corban was hot but I felt like it didn’t have enough sex for my liking.
Whoa that ending, I honestly wasn’t expecting that to happen and it kind of blindsided me for a little bit. I would honestly sell my soul to get the next book, like right now. Ok, maybe my soul is a little drastic so how about my first born? In all honesty this is one book EVERYONE must read and I do mean EVEYONE. See all the capital letters, I’m insanely serious. So stop debating whether or not to read it and just read it. You will NOT be disappointed.
The book starts off and we are immediately thrown into the disappearance/murder of Melodi’s sister Abby. Melodi and her family believe that Abby’s abusive boyfriend murdered Abby because she was going to leave him. Unfortunately, they don’t have enough evidence to convict him and he is found not guilty. Devastated that she lost not only her twin sister but her best friend, it leaves a feeling of regret over Melodi because she feel as though she should’ve did more to help her sister out.
Melodi moves to New York 3 years later for a job interview and tries to put everything that happened in the past and move on with her life. One night on the town with her new friend Flick, she meets a handsome stranger. The chemistry and attraction is there from the minute she falls into Corban’s arms accidently, of course. It seems like fate has thrown her into the sight of this sexy man and he wants her badly. The only catch is that Corban turns out to be her boss.
Where do they go from there? Well, what are you still reading my review for? Go read it for yourself and find out.
Melodi White is grieving for the loss of her sister Abby who is missing and now presumed dead at the hands of her abusive boyfriend Jacob. To fulfill the dream that she and Abby always had she moves to New York. One night while out on the town she literally smacks right dab into Corban and the sparks between them fly!!
Corban Andrews is CEO of Case Construction. He is rich, sexy, powerful and turns Melodi's world completely upside down in a good way. The instant connection between the two of them is off the charts but Melodi has a hard time trusting men after what happened to Abby. Just as soon as things are beginning to fall into place for Melodi the one person she never wanted to see again in her whole entire life shows up at work one day. Will Corban be able to help pull Melodi thru it or will she let it spiral her world out of control? Is everything that Melodi has believed for the last 3 years true?
That ending......OH MMMM GEEEE!!!!! I was so excited yet hollllyy crap my jaw was dropping to the floor!!! I can't get book 2 in my hands soon enough!!!
Other than a few I absolutely love the secondary characters!! The banter between Melodi, Flick and Rachel had me laughing my butt off!! I loved Blake as well so I can't wait for more on him as well. Corban's little sister is up to something, I can just feel it and I have my guess about what it is but I guess I'll have to wait patiently.
This book really hits home for me. On Mother's Day 2013 I lost my own sister at the hands of the monster who promised just one year before to love and cherish her more than anything on this planet. I can totally relate to every feeling Melodi and her family goes thru at the loss of losing Abby. I wish things could go the way they do for me as they will for Melodi but all the same......I absolutely LOVED this book!!! Amazing job Liz!!!
The Lost One by Liz Lovelock is a story of pulling oneself up after tragedy and following the dreams that you had set for yourself. The Lost One is the first book in the series and has an intriguingly unique story that will grab your attention, wondering what the truth is surrounding the disappearance of Melodi's sister Abby and her abusive ex-boyfriend Jacob. This book was a 3.5 star read for me and I recommend it to others.
Melodi followed the dream that her and her sister had talked about for so long, moving to New York City and making creating a life for themselves. Although the circumstances surrounding Abby's disappearance and death were not enough to convict her ex-boyfriend Jacob of murder, Melodi knew that he was responsible. Missing her sister everyday for the last three years, she closed herself off from the idea of having a relationship with any man, that is until she met the sexy, hot Corban.
Corban, who later unbeknownst to her becomes her boss, is a caring, compassionate, giving and completely sexy CEO of Case Construction. Melodi becomes his executive assistant after her friend Frick finds her the job through the headhunting agency. Melodi is excited to start her life in New York, the way that her and Abby had always dreamed. And although she tries hard to close herself off from Corban, she falls in love with him despite her reservations. Corban shows her only love and undying support the entire time they are together, even when it affects his business.
Melodi's world is turned upside down when Abby's ex-boyfriend Jacob shows up at Corban's office, wanting to become a client. After telling Corban who Jacob is to her and her inability to work with him on any level, Corban does not take him on as a client. Jacob seems to become angry and begins to stalk Melodi, starting off with cornering her in her office parking lot and graduating to sending daily text messages. Working with the police, Corban and Melodi are trying to find Jacob as they are worried for her safety until the night that changed everything. The truths that are revealed in the final chapters of this first book will have you gasping and wanting more!
When I first read the synopsis for The Lost One by Liz Lovelock, I was intrigued. I knew it was going to be an interesting book. The characters were enjoyable, the chemistry was good, and the thriller aspect of it was something I didn’t expect, so that’s always a plus. The synopsis gave nothing away and I really enjoyed being shocked when things took an unexpected turn. I love being surprised when reading a book and, while there were parts of the book that were predictable, in my opinion, it did nothing to deter me from finishing it. I just found myself reading faster in order to figure out if I was correct in my assumptions or not. It was a well-written book and I enjoyed a lot of different things about it.
As stated, the characters were very enjoyable and the chemistry between Melodi and Corban was great. I originally just thought it was going to be a really droll love story, some cookie-cutter thing that did nothing to interest me and I’d have to put it down not even halfway through it. This was nothing like that and I loved that it wasn’t. As a debut novel, it does a wonderful job of enticing readers and making them want to turn page after page as quickly as they can so they can figure out the ending. The ending itself, while I’d suspected it, still made me quite happy and I was pleased that things had turned out exactly like I’d hoped. You really fall in love with the characters and I found myself really enjoying Melodi’s character, even though she put me off a little in the beginning with the backstory. She made me reclaim my love for her throughout the book and I was able to enjoy the rest of the book.
I have to say I’m pretty excited to read the sequel as it should be just as good, if not better, than the first. I would highly recommend this series, as it is a lovely read and heartwarming to boot. The book comes full circle and leaves nothing unanswered, even though there’s a sequel. I’m really interested to see what things will happen from Abby’s point of view in the next one, as she’s the one I was actually most interested in throughout the first book. Can’t wait to finish it!
