The Legend of Erren-dar #2

The Sword of Erren-dar

Rate this book
A generation has passed since the legendary hero, Erren-dar, saved the Kingdom of Eskendria from the armies of its ancient foe, the Destroyer. Peace has been present in the Kingdom for so long now, that its people have grown careless of the fact that their enemies have not forgotten the humiliation inflicted upon them and have been recovering in secret from their defeat.
Now there is dissention within Eskendria, for the barons murmur against the high-handed arrogance of the Crown Prince and rebellion is in the wind. At this most inauspicious time, disaster strikes – the sword of Erren-dar, believed to have the power to protect the Kingdom from harm, is stolen.
The heir of Erren-dar and his companions are dispatched by the King on a mission to catch the thief and recover the sword. Their quest takes them deep into the Forsaken Lands, territory uninhabited by man in over a thousand years, where all knowledge is reduced to legend and myth.
Their journey leads them to discover that not only is an old enemy of the Kingdom planning his revenge, but he does so with the connivance of an evil and powerful being which has plans of its own for the sword.
At all costs the sword most be recovered, or all that Erren-dar fought for will be lost, and Eskendria, the last remnant of the mythical Golden Kingdom, will be destroyed for ever.

There is more than one author in the GoodReads database with this name

R.J. Grieve lives in an old farmhouse set in the rolling green countryside of Northern Ireland along with her husband, daughter and a cat with attitude. Her background is in the law but she has given up things legal to write full time. The rugged coastline and heather-covered mountains of her native land provide her with inspiration for many of the descriptive passages in her books.

I love, love, love this author!
R.J. Grieves has not disappointed me. I LOVE his writing style! I have to meet this guy!

His storyline and characters flow like honey. Did I mention that I liked this guy's writing?

The Sword of Erren-dar begins two generations later with Erren-dar and Elorin's only grandson, Vesarion. Like his grandfather and father before him, each was the remaining royal aire, The Lord of Westrin. Vesarion now grown is tall and handsome resembling his grandfather. In his mid-thirties, he carries himself comfortably on horseback leading his army. He leads the third generation of the elite army of mountain brigands. Now polished, the two thousand horsemen riding three abreast, are renown for their training and battle readiness. Vesarion has been called to the King Prince, to pledge his annual allegiance and each Barron arrives pledging their loyalty and business meetings quickly proceed. Upon adjournment for the day, Vesarion is asked to meet privately with the King Prince. The King Price has his own agendas and secretly wants Vesarion's good name and soldiers to become even closer aligned to the Crown. Vesarion is nudged to take a childhood friend as an arranged marriage, the king's daughter, Sareth.

Vesarion, Sareth and a band of misfits end up on a unplanned and death defying journey that leads to truth, strengt love and magic. Just like grandfather Erran-dar, the Sword of Erren-dar saves the day when death is inevitable.

You'll love this novel. I look foreward to more ancient tales from R.J. Grieves.

Read Grieve's, Book 1 The Crystal Chalice then, The Sword of Erren-dar Book 2.
