I was truly moved by the stories. Each one is uniquely narrated, showcasing your remarkable storytelling ability and emotional depth. The way you convey emotions is powerful and heartfelt. Among all, நெடும்புகழ் மாதேவி, செந்நிலம், and especially நதிமுலம் left a deep impression on me — I couldn't hold back my tears while reading நதிமுலம்.

என் மதிப்புரையை இந்த தொகுப்பின் கடைசி கதையில் இருந்து ஆரம்பிக்க போகிறேன். "செவ்வரளி பூச்சரம்". Seeing red என்ற குறும்படம் கண்டிப்பாக இந்த கதையை தழுவியே எடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. அது பெருமளவில் பாராட்டுகளை பெற்றுள்ளது. ஆனால் உண்மையில் இந்த கதையை படிக்கும் போது இருந்த உற்சாகம் அந்த குறும்படத்தை பார்க்கும் போது எனக்கு இல்லை. அத்தனை பாராட்டும் ஜெயராணி அவர்களையே சேரும். இப்படி ஒரு பகிரங்கமான திருட்டு நடந்துள்ளது, அதை நினைத்து நான் மனம் வருந்துகிறேன்.
மனிதத்தன்மையை விட அற்ப மனிதர்கள் உருவாக்கிய சாதி தான் உயர்ந்தது என்று நினைக்கும் நபர்களுக்கு இடையே தான் நாம் வாழ்ந்து கொண்டிருக்கிறோம். அத்தகைய இந்த சமூகத்தில் நடக்கும் நிகழ்வுகளை வெவ்வேறு கண்ணோட்டத்தில் இருந்து காட்சிப்படுத்தியுள்ளார். இந்த கொடூர சமூகத்தில் பெண்களின் நிலை இன்னும் மோசமாக தான் உள்ளது. அதையும் மீறி பல பெண்கள் இங்கு வாழ்ந்துகொண்டு தான் இருக்கிறோம். இவை தான் இக்கதை தொகுப்பின் கருவாக உள்ளது. அத்தகைய எழுச்சி பெண்கள் தான் இந்த கதைகளில் காண படுகின்றனர்.
ஜெயராணி அவர்களின் எழுத்து, உணர்ச்சிகளை துல்லியமாக கடத்தும் வல்லமை கொண்டுள்ளது. எதார்த்தமான உரையாடல்களால் அந்த கதை மற்றும் கதை மாந்தர்களுடன் எளிதில் ஒற்றுபோக முடிந்தது. அவர்களின் அழகான வர்ணனை என்னை அந்த இடத்திற்கே கொண்டு சென்றுவிட்டது. இதை படிக்க ஆரம்பித்தவுடன் மிக சுவாரசியமாக ஒரு கதைப்பின் இன்னொரு கதை படிக்க ஆர்வம் தூண்டியது. ஆனால் சில கதைகள் என்னை மிகவும் பாதித்தது. அவை ஏற்படுத்திய தாக்கத்தில் இருந்து மீள எனக்கு குறைந்த பட்சம் ஒரு நாள் ஆனது. அந்த கதைகள் "அம்மாவின் பிரசவம்" (என்னை கட்டுப்படுத்த முடியாமல் அழ வைத்தது),"ஆறாமவன்","நதி மூலம்", "மூகம்மா காடு".
ஜெயராணி அவர்களின் மற்ற படைப்புகளை படிக்க நான் ஆர்வமாக இருக்கிறேன். இப்படி பட்ட ஒரு அற்புதமா எழுத்தாளருடன் சம காலத்தில் வாழ்வது எனக்கு மிகவும் பெருமையாக உள்ளது.

She is always known for her strong socio political views and has been the voice of the voiceless through her literaty works. Sennilam is a compilation on nine short stories. Her protagonists are everyday people who have been in everyday situations dictated by the prevailing social structure that reeks of oppression in various forms. The themes are diverse and explore a lot of conflicts ranging from denial of access to water, forcing women to perform sati ritual , supernatural elements , sacrificing women's for the sake of men's honor and so on. The pages dont shock but resonate with you deeply as they are everyday events we encounter in today's socitey. The last story 'Sevvarali poocharam' was the talking point on forums since the author claimed the theme was plagarised in a short film called 'Seeing Red',which i do find merit and could see the similarities. Overall a must read. #Recco

A collection of short stories from Writer Jeyarani.
Each story opens up like a well-written short film. I hope she starts writing movie screenplays.
The stories make you face some bitter realities of rural Tamil Nadu. Each story is a page-turner, but, I would recommend you take time, digest and process before moving on to the next one.
It is also important to note that one of the stories titled "Sevvarali Poochcharam" has been plagiarized into a short-film called "Seeing Red", erasing the pain of the rural marginalized communities by moving the story to an agraharam. And, the irony being Vetri Maaran is the mentor of that short-film.
