Online marketplace and digital platform founders and leaders invest enormous time and effort into setting their businesses up for success, focusing on what it takes to launch and scale their innovative and disruptive ventures. But most give little if any thought to setting up their platforms for avoiding unnecessary risk, liability and exposure that could lead to failure.
In his book, Bulletproof Your Strategies for Protecting Your Digital Platform, Jeremy Gottschalk, attorney and founder of the global resource platform Marketplace Risk, turns the how to succeed in business genre on its head. Rather than offering the usual platitudes on growing a business, he shows marketplace and digital platform leaders how to eliminate the kinds of unnecessary risk, liability and exposure that can destroy even the most successful digital businesses. Bulletproof Your Marketplace offers platform stakeholders useful and actionable ways to avoid to identify, predict, prevent, and respond to the risks that come with launching, operating and scaling marketplaces and digital platforms.
Addressing some of a platform’s most common vulnerabilities one by one, Gottschalk lays out in plain and simple terms how founders and leaders can proactively and simultaneously protect their businesses and their communities.
Jeremy H Gottschalk makes a very impressive and timely writing debut with this much needed guide to protecting online activity, both in the digital and eCommerce marketplace as well as social media presence. His combination of legal expertise and business acumen have established him as an important leader in the tech industry.
The scope of this manual covers data privacy and security, how to manage those inevitable threats to privacy and subject control, detecting and managing risks of digital identity and fraud prevention, and more. As the author states, ‘I think the realization that nobody wins when we hide bad things or pretend that they don’t happen on our platforms has finally arrived…platforms, user communities, and lawmakers are becoming more focused on solving the problems of misuse of platforms.’ He concludes this valuable book with an informative chapter on AI and its possible influence. This is a very fine ‘must-read’ for all online users.
This book was what I was looking for because I am trying to build a digital platform so when I read the title I did not doubt: I had to buy it. I found Bulletproof Your Marketplace refreshingly practical—Jeremy Gottschalk doesn’t waste time with vague advice. Instead, he delivers a clear, structured guide to identifying and managing risks that can quietly undermine even the most promising ventures. What stood out to me is how accessible and non-technical the writing is, even though it tackles legal and operational challenges. Gottschalk breaks down complex topics like liability, compliance, and risk mitigation with real-world relevance. It's a wake-up call for founders too focused on growth to notice what could go wrong. As a platform leader who wants to build smart, sustainable businesses, this book provided me invaluable tools to prevent disaster before it starts. A grounded and essential guide for today’s digital marketplace world.
This book should be handed out in every business school in the world. It seems that, even with years of experience, those who teach the subject do not see the need to expose the risks and the means to avoid them. The book is a complete lecture on how not to fail so hard when it comes to doing business through digital media and how? Well, it is clear that technology has brought many solutions for business, but whoever uses it irresponsibly, it will have its consequences in the short or medium term.
I worked as a lawyer in a university and I saw how many students from different careers devised a thousand things for their digital businesses, but there was always a common denominator in all of them, none of them thought about the associated risks and their mitigation. That is why this book should be a must to grow in this avant-garde world of the Marketplace.
Not because it is digital does it lack potential safety issues. This book is an eye-opener for all those who work on online business platforms, reminding us of the importance of risk management, which is often overlooked. The way the book is written is like having a guide for each possible situation—the author addresses each issue one by one, expands on the explanation of what it takes, but most importantly, how to prevent it. Launching into these businesses can be challenging at times, and we are already investing time in understanding how platforms work and how to optimize our efforts for the business. Feel confident by learning these risk management and protection strategies in a simple way. I am amazed at how well he explains each concept and makes it very applicable. Protect your business and let Gottschalk guide you.
This book is a must-read. Building a platform or a marketplace is one thing, but protecting it is another, and this book really helped me see the risks I hadn’t considered before. It’s full of practical strategies to keep your marketplace secure, from managing data privacy to avoiding legal problems and staying ahead of competitors and present in the market you’re in. What I liked most is how it explains in a simple and understandable way complex topics. It doesn’t just talk about what can go wrong, it shows you how to prevent it in the first place. I’m already thinking about ways to apply the advice, especially when it comes to user trust and system security. This book is a valuable guide, it taught me how to be proactive and stay ahead in today’s digital world.
Being a lawyer, I meet almost daily with cases of businessmen or entrepreneurs who went bankrupt or were on the verge precisely because they only gave importance to marketing strategies, customers, numbers and growth. Where was the foresight of legal risks, policies, regulatory compliance, corporate organization? Well, this book lands all those dreamers so that, before flying in that plane, they learn how to tighten the wheels so that they land safely on each landing. The book exposes many ways in which everything can go wrong and teaches us the importance of foresight through very obvious examples. I think I'm going to give it as a gift to my entrepreneurial friends to help them focus their goals a bit.
I won this book through Goodreads. I thought this book was well written. The author thought everything through. I liked the real company examples. It really gave a perspective of how companies delt with the issues that occurred.
If you’re looking to start a commerce-based business, get a little background first and then pick this up. If you’re completely blank on what to do first, I’d wait on this book until you know.
I agree that digital world is important, but without quality assurance what is going to happen in case a new challenge becomes impossible to handle. I am an advocate for mentors, collaborators, and evaluators who have as vast influence on digital learning. I don’t want to exclude people from severe challenges that are not in the plans of the writers of bulletproof the marketplaces. The best ideas come from people you least expect.
