Only I’m not supposed to be chasing romance. Not when I have to coach my cousin’s team to chase their dream of winning the Norsphere Cup.
Everyone’s relying on me, and I can’t let them down by giving into my own desires. Nothing can distract me.
That is, until a mischievous Puca glides into my life, sparking a fire inside of me that I’ve never felt before.
Every day, it grows brighter and brighter as I fall harder and harder for Pem. His smile melts my heart while his touch sets me ablaze. He’s perfect. Always there...
Pleasuring me.
Pleasing me.
Playing me.
Because Pem isn’t just any monster. He’s the rival team’s star player. Now I have to choose—follow my heart, or uphold my word.
Will I find a way to balance the two, or am I skating on thin ice?
Tighly enjoying the series and this was no diffrent. I enjoyed that both where monsters and learned about each other's cultures. Quick and sweet read with a lot of spice.
A shy monster who happens to be a dynamo on the ice and a monster who's given his all to his team unexpectedly cross paths and THINGS HAPPEN. I mean, they don't happen right away, but Iseol and Pem get there eventually.
But first, they meet and spark and share a frozen lake while on some downtime from the Norsphere Cup. The kicker? Neither knows that the other is associated with the team they're playing against (Iseol is filling in for her cousin while he's on paternity leave and the teams are kept apart so they can't learn the other's moves as a way to keep the playing fair) and this might cause BIG problems once they figure out the truth. Which is inevitable because the two teams will literally be facing one another across the ice at some point.
Anywho. Iseol has some cultural issues she has to work around. Namely that her people are very private about, uhh, their private lives and, as a hybrid, she knows next to nothing about what SHE might want. You know, seeing as she's never had a heat or anything. On Pem's end, he gets a little grunty when Iseol is near and wants to do more kissing than talking. Which isn't a terrible idea, but (again) cultural reticence means Iseol has a hard time initiating conversations about sexy things.
So. Some skating ice time. Some sexy ice time. Some quality sisterly advice. A couple of teammates who like to give Pem a tough time. A puca who knows a captivating vixen when he sees her. And a lady who never knew the joys of having her tails stroked until one sexy puca showed her. GOOD TIMES!
✨Pem is looking for some peace and quiet to unwind before his championship game, but instead, he finds himself in the company of a stranger. Captivated by her beauty, he doesn't mind no longer being alone and is determined to do whatever it takes to keep her coming back to their little spot on the ice.
Iseol, coaching her cousin’s team during a critical point in their season, is swept off her feet by the mysterious man she encounters. As their time together draws to a close and their true identities are revealed, they find themselves on opposite sides of the ice. But fate has other plans in store for them.
📚 Tropes: Monster Romance, Hockey Romance, Reveal Teams
✨Such a cute and fast-paced book! It perfectly blended sports and monster romance, and I was all in. I really liked how Iseol was able to open herself up to a new way of living after growing up in a closed-off culture. Pem was a great match for her, taking the time to understand her better, even though their relationship developed pretty quickly. I wasn’t a fan of the miscommunication trope, but to be fair, they didn’t have much time between meeting and the game. In the end, though, it all worked out.
This was so cute, it’s nice to see that both MMCs were monsters in this book as most of the rest of the series was Monster and Human couples. I loved all the different elements and powers that the MMCs brought to the table, even though it could be a bit much at times. I definitely enjoyed it, I loved the skating elements and the tension between Iseol and Pem; when it was steamy and even just cute moments of them talking and thinking about each other. I definitely wanted to see more domestic moments together and have them get to know each other a bit more before the mating and the I Love Yous though. But that tied into the plot as well so I can’t be too mad about it either.
The spice was great, with some unique things that this author is definitely known for. This series has the most unique range of monsters that I’ve seen and I enjoy getting to know all the quirks and uniqueness in each book. We got some tail, ear and horn play, primal play in animal forms, mating frills/special equipment, and a *fun time* pocket! My personal favorite was all the tail and ear play, I always have a soft spot for that. All in all, a good addition to the series and I can’t wait for the next installment, a solid 3.5 for me!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Pucked by the Puca is a playful and sizzling monster romance that blends forbidden love with high-stakes hockey drama. Riley, a dedicated coach determined to lead her cousin’s team to victory, has no time for distractions. But when Pem, a mischievous Puca and the rival team’s star player, skates into her life, all her carefully laid plans go out the window. Pem is charming, persistent, and impossible to resist. His flirtatious teasing and unwavering devotion melt Riley’s resolve, and their chemistry sizzles both on and off the ice. But with their careers on the line and the championship at stake, Riley has to choose between following her heart and keeping her promise. The tension between duty and desire adds an exciting layer to their relationship, and Pem’s playful nature keeps things light even when the stakes are high. The spice is fun and creative (as expected from a Puca!), and the emotional payoff is satisfying. If you’re looking for a sports romance with a monster twist, this one hits all the right goals.
Every time I read one of these monstrous meet cute books I end up with a new favorite and it's this here
Thank you to the author for adding a glossary of terms and translations at the beginning of the book. Because I spent so much time going back and forth and googling what all of these things look like. I went down a rabbit hole of sorts. Did not realize I need more Kitsune and Puca stories
Loved how this book was all fate driven and the characters that had sight did not spoil it and made the two main characters work for what they got. I liked how Puck, who is a known mythological being, was given such a personality.
I disliked how there was reference to certain fay being tricksters but never denied being tricksters. A statement was sort of made that they were tricking them and that's all it went.
Review: I liked both Pem and Iseol. It was a fun hockey monster romance.
Tropes: -Age Gap -Foxes -Hockey -Mates -Monsters -Puca -Shifters
Quotes: "I think it’s important to know someone’s likes and dislikes. How can two people grow together if they can’t even be open about the most vulnerable part of their relationship? Intimacy is the physical extension of a couple’s feelings.”
"Important discoveries can’t be made in silence"
"Desire can transform even the most docile of creatures into feral beasts"
I just finished a dark romance series so this was the perfect pallet cleanser. Low angst, high spice, with blended cultures and folk law. Wendi has a way of creating monster romance that perfectly blends in folk law and makes you want to explore them further. So many different creature many I have never heard of, but it makes it such a nice change from the usual contenders.
I absolutely adored these skated mates. Such a meet cute, and their connection was just amazing! It kept getting better and better. One of my favorite things about Wendi's books is the emphasis on the lore behind each monster in her books, and we got DOUBLE THE DOSE in this one. I loved it so much. Pem and Iseol are not only adorable, their heat/rut cycles produced some HEAT 🥵 I can't wait for Wendi's next book!!
I DEVOURED this book! Wendi Guff is too good for this world but I am so thankful she writes these incredible stories for us!!!!! This was a twist on the typical hockey romance without the gender stereotypes and with monsters, magic, and hot steamy scenes! I loved the inclusion of Welsh, Japanese, and Korean folklore and stories. My only complaint is that it ended! I feel like I could read about Pem and Iseol forever!
This isn't my first Wendi Guff, so I knew I was going to get a new name for the monster member. However, this was 10 pounds of world building in a five pound bag. I appreciate the author taking the time to have a glossary of terms at the beginning, but when I need to flip back to it every other chapter, I'm gonna have a bad time.
The beginning gives so many details on the MC's bodies and different species customs, it was odd. But halfway through the book I got it! The author had a reason for all those explanations - and I wish this book was at least 100 pages longer just so I could savour those subplots a little more. Monsters, hockey, steamy outdoor smut, and great plot.
Cute story with cute characters. But I hate the whole miscommunication thing. I guess I’m just glad it all worked out lol even though duh it’s a romance so of course it will
Another enjoyable read by Wendi! There was insta love and quick build spice and nearly no angst over being on opposing teams' situation once it was discovered, so this made for a nice quick read!
I liked this book. 3 star out of 5 for rating, 3 for spiciness. It was kind of a hidden identity for both of them, strangers to lovers. But she kept running away and that was a little frustrating.
Pem and Iseol's story is heartwarming, fierce and spicy. I enjoyed this much! But Pem's sister . . . Ramani . . . the little minx. Kening doesn't have a chance in hell to fight her off. I can't wait for that story!
Liked the chemistry between Iseol and Pem. They were both what each other needed. Didn't connect with this story the way I did the others in series. Did like the history lesson and all the tie ins to the different cultures though.
love this series so much and the author! I will read any thing by them! Her monster series is so great. I love the different representations she has in her books and how everyone is so different.
The plot was cute but the writing was JEEZ. It felt all over the place. Details missing, over too much over explanation on scenes. Like I know it’s a short story but was this not read before hand. Even if you shut off your brain, it’s still gonna be working.
