That’s Too Pucking Bad

One taste of her innocence, and I'm pucking obsessed.

Sweet little Remy has no idea the masked man who followed her into the dark at the Reapers' party was me— the star center for the Blackridge Ravens college hockey team.

The way she writhed against my mouth.

How she begged so pretty.

Those innocent whimpers when she shattered.

But when the daylight comes, she plays hard to get.

But here's the thing about being undefeated on and off the ice— I don’t lose.

And watching her pretend she doesn't want me every time she sees me?

That just makes the hunt sweeter.

Her boyfriend won’t stop me.

Her pride can't save her.

She says she'll never be mine.

Well... guess what, baby?

That’s too pucking bad.

This seemed to have all the pieces for me to like, but in the end I was disappointed. The first thing was that it was completely out of character insta-love. The H "sees her from across the room" which would be inexplicable enough, but she was also a nerdy girl with glasses and boring, Ill-fitting clothes. Really? You're saying the playboy who has a roster of beautiful women becomes obsessed with you on site alone? This carried through their whole relationship. They didn't have anything in common, there was no real chemistry although apparently the virgin became a porn star in half a sex session, which it's a romance, I can forgive that...if it was the only thing, but other than him being obsessed, I couldn't relate to their love or even attraction. Then we have the issue of Zane GETTING A BLOW JOB from another woman AFTER they had sex, after she gave him her virginity. He saw her with the boyfriend he knew about and got so mad at her, he paid the boyfriend to break up with her and then he refused to answer her for days and got a BJ from someone else and she CAUGHT him and was still begging him to take her back. Why bother paying off the boyfriend if you were just going to ignore her? So that was all the ick and frustrating. I think another part of this is that the whole story is a blue print for a tragedy that got a happy ending sticker slapped on at the end. The very naive young virgin falls for the playboy rich kid who doesn't do relationships and has asshole rich parents that control his life and don't want her to be with him. Also, in the end, the *bad guy* kinda won. His father got away with ruining his life and Remy's. What happened to the video she took of him hitting Zane? I expected something to come of that and nothing did. In the end he just....quit hockey? For a hockey romance that's super disappointing. Not that this was more than tangentially related to hockey itself. Let's talk about the "best friend " Maya...that chick man! What a terrible friend! She was kinda snarky and dismissive, she rarely was on her side and was always praising Zane. I was SURE she was going to end up betraying her by making a pass at Zane or something, but justnothing came of it, so it wasn't an author breadcrumb, it was just bad storytelling. The final thing is the lack of editing or having someone do a read through for consistency. Early on in the book the h talks on and on about how "She's not like normal college kids with dirty laundry and dishes everywhere, she likes things neat and organized!" and then near the end she talks about Maya not judging her for having a messy desk and overflowing trash can because even though they're different. What? Are you clean or messy? Overall, not worth the time it took to read 400 pages.

this was the worst book i have ever read i did not finish it i literally couldn’t. The fmc has a boyfriend but still proceeds to sleep with this guy and has no intention of actually breaking up with her bf. The mmc and fmc finally sleep tg and she STILL doesn’t breakup with her bf the mmc pays her bf to break up with her and she’s so upset when her bf finally breaks up with her like girl why are u surprised u literally cheated on him. Then there is the fmc “best friend” maya sorry but i did not like her she encouraged remy the fmc to hookup with zane the mmc even thought she had a bf and then she starts ignoring remy and takes zane side like girl bad friend and u literally pushed her towards him and it gets swept under the rug she forgives maya so easily and it made me mad

There were some fun scenes but the execution is a mess.

The author never sold me on these two. It was way too insta from the Hs side and I don’t think the h would have ever left her boyfriend. She would have kept cheating forever.

I like a manipulative H but I still want the h to choose the H at some point. If the H wouldn’t have paid the boyfriend off she would have never picked him. I don’t want a h who is with the H by default.

I loved this book. the only issue I had was how back and forth everything was towards the end, and I really wish his father would have had his just desserts and consequences from his actions

Not really dark. Possible spoilers.

So this book was fine, hence the 3 stars. I wouldn't really consider it dark though, there are some triggers like child abuse, cheating (by the fmc), and a couple other things but nothing too serious (maybe my definition of dark is a bit different). The plot had potential but it did get long winded in some parts with the back and forth between the main characters. The side characters were good, especially Maya. Regarding the cheating, the author does paint their relationship as failing and stale anyways but the fmc is scared to end it. I just don't get why she was so mad when her boyfriend at the time broke up with her even though she had already slept with the mmc. I wasn't a big fan of her, she seemed a bit selfish and dramatic at times. She did have her good moments though but it's hard to remember she's 18 in this book when she didn't act like it sometimes. The mmc falls pretty hard and is very determined/obsessed in the beginning of the book but teeters some in the middle, which i know there were things going on but I thought he would've stayed more true to character. I did feel bad for his situation so I can kind of see where his personality changed. I wish there was a little better closure with her ex since he was a good guy and his dad as well as maybe another epilogue farther into the future. There were also a few times where I was confused about the setting, like the fmc would say they were going to her house but in the next scene they were at his or the fact she lived in the dorm and at home but sometimes it wasn't clear where things were happening.

Started strong

I really liked the premise. I enjoyed the characters. It really slowed down for me in the second half. I put it down and read 2 other books before finally finishing it… there was a miscommunication/ lack of communication trope that gets really tiresome quickly. But overall it was still a good story with a HEA

Definitely wouldn’t consider this a dark romance. The only “dark” part of this book was when he followed her into the woods. The writing was so bad. Characters immature. Same phrases repeated over and over…. and over. I had to force myself to finish it. And I’m confused about how the FMC is a virgin that barely kisses her bf of several years, but let’s a stranger in a mask go down on her in the woods 😭

This book started off pretty good. It started off in the direction of dark romance and then it just turned absolutely stupid. The plot made no sense after a while, it was a lot of back and forth of the same thing over and over and then even the way the characters started talking to each other was just ridiculous. Enjoyed it until I didn’t.

Loose Ends…

What to say about this book…it was hard to finish this and I almost didn’t. There were just too many loose ends…the h records the H’s dad being abusive and has this evidence yet they never use it. The H’s dad is able to cut him off despite he H saying earlier that he has a trust fund.
It should’ve been better than it was…

I am sorry but there is no way that part or all of this book wasn’t written with AI. Here are some weird phrases/things.

“We are going to beat these kids”

“They are playing a college team” like just name the team! Very weird.

They have lockers at this college that was only mentioned once.

I was so confused for a minute bc I thought I read in the beginning that she was going to college and then she asked her mom if she could go to a party. Like what? She is 18!

Also did she live in the dorm or with her mom? Clearly her mom most of the time, but when did she live in the dorm?!

Another weird thing was when they mentioned the Van Cleef and then they said Hermes and then it was Hermes Van Cleef. Those are two different companies! Total AI glitch.

Also the slut nickname immediately! Like she has a boyfriend! That’s a little intense for the first spicy scene.

Her boyfriend, does he want to do it or not? There was a part where she wanted him to go back to her room but he didn’t. Then he wanted to. What is it?!

Now those are all the weird things. The main problem I had was the back and forth. It has been a very long time since I have a book where the MMC is not completely obsessed and won’t let her go. I thought it would be that way at first, but no. He just gave up so easily.
The FMC was terrible. Like break up with your boyfriend! What are you even doing?! You lost your virginity to Zane and then just go on a date. Then have the audacity to be mad when he breaks up with you! What do you even mean?! You were cheating! You didn’t want him?! What is it?!

The spicy scenes were great, but I don’t know why authors think we want sex scenes with the MMC and another woman?! Unless it is specified in the tropes. I don’t care what he did before her! It is so annoying!

Overall this book was terrible. That is all.

So I just finished. I didn’t even know it was the ending until it said Epilogue.

Spoiler Alert

No closure??….Zane is staying at his old house? Maya transferred to London? What happened with Remy’s mom? What happened with Zane’s Dad? What about College? What happened with Colin? What the heck just happened? The issue was SORT of resolved and it’s the end of the book.

Remy was a crappy friend to Maya. Maya was super nice and funny and so accepting. She even helped Zane and Remy get back together. Remy didn’t even have the thought to ask Maya why she was transferring. Also why the heck was she transferring. Like Maya was part of the story with Caleb and then they disappeared halfway and made small appearances acting like they are in love and shit. ONLY FOR ME TO FIND OUT THAT CALEB HAS HIS OWN BOOK AND ITS NOT WITH MAYA???? They got tattoos with something for each other!! Wtf.

There are so many parts in the story that feel unfinished. Like Remy getting a video that Zane’s dad abuses him. Where did that go? What about the brotherhood? It was mentioned only to talk about the parties? If Zane was in the brotherhood what was his role? Why? Did he leave? Was he able to leave? I doubt secret societies just let you leave because you want out. Also why was his dad a psycho. What did his dad do for work that he kept saying his own son was an investment and nothing else?

Why did Zane pay off Colin to break up with Remy to only ghost her later and ditch her? Zane was possessive and obsessed with with her. Love it. Great trope but the rest just fell flat.

THIS BOOK WRAPPED UP TOO EARLY. LIKE IT WAS ON A DEADLINE AND IT WAS FAST APPROACHING and it was just given 20mins for a wrap up. NOTHING WAS RESOLVED. TOO MANY QUESTIONS LEFT UNANSWERED.

It’s a Happy for Now moment.

girl got a magic V

Spoilers ahead so just keep on scrolling.

For starters this FMC gets to have all the spicy time she wants but doesn’t have to suffer any of the consequences?? I call nonsense! Because I can’t use stronger words. Secondly the continuity issues are just atrocious. I’m fairly certain I’m using that word correctly. It’s hard to get pulled back in after scrolling up to figure out how we went from Zane at the edge of the rink to walking past remy wherever she was seated in the stands for the third or fourth final final game. Did the author forget how many final games this team won? Or was I too baked while reading some of this?

There were times I liked remy and times that I did not. When she wasn’t acting like a child I enjoyed her character.

Zane was obsessed from the start. But I’m confused on where the blackmail came in? I remember reading that his father demanded he stop seeing remy. No more distractions. But then just forward a couple chapters and the email-threat etc. and that whole confession comes out. It’s like the alternative endings for movies? That’s what some of these felt like. Cause after that they break up again. Because remy won’t listen. Or see what’s right in front of her. But alas…friend maye to swoop in and fix things. And of course they make up. It’s like alternative endings.

The spicy was very very high. So I hope you’re not a prude. That’s not why I gave it three stars. It got 3 stars for the continuity issues. I just can’t let that go. Oh probably will not read another book by this author. I tried but it hurt my brain.

Pretty good read!!!

This was a first for me by this author and a really good showing. It started with a bang, Drew me in but got slower as the story went along unfortunately. There were a TON of discrepancies like one sentence they were at her place and the next they were actually at hers. They’d be in a bedroom at a party then buckling into his car the next sentence. No transitions and location changed mid story a lot, taking me out of the moment to reread and make sure I didn’t skip a paragraph or two.
I liked the intensity of Zane. He was a perfect OTT Hero at the beginning, he got a little caught in his feels and lost a bit of alpha cred but still managed to do alright and keep my interest piqued.
Then there was our h, Remy. I didn’t relate to her much but I really tried! She had her moments and I still enjoyed reading her story even though I couldn’t understand how “wishy washy” she was throughout the entire book. I just wanted her to shüt up and stop whining already!
All in all a good read though! I still managed to thoroughly enjoy it and lose myself a bit so that was definitely a plus.

College hockey captain meets straight A good girl. Some things worked, and some things didn’t.

This was instalust/instalove and mostly it was fine. The cheating aspect didn’t work for me. Remy wanted her pie and to eat it too. She was playing both men and I’m glad Zane did what he did to get her all to himself. Someone had to do it. But because Remy didn’t make the choice on her own, it felt like Zane was 2nd best which didn’t sit right with me. I loved Zane’s OTTP behavior, it’s what hooked me from the beginning.

This was like 90% smut, 5% hockey, and 5% plot. The 3rd act breakup felt like it was just thrown in there for dramatics and unnecessary considering the whole thing was full of drama all on its own. By the end I think I was more invested in Maya and Caleb’s relationship, which are secondary characters.

Minor spoiler here but I find it important: The MMC allows another girl to suck him off after he takes the FMC’s virginity in order to “forget about her” …. So cheating between MMC/FMC is subjective.

Zane sees Remy, she has a boyfriend, he doesn't care and pursues her anyways, girl can't resist and cheats on her bf multiple times. Zane pays the boyfriend to dump her so he can be with her. But then he rejects her when she tries to go to him? Like is letting some girl blow him at a party and then Remy walks in so he makes homegirl stop and goes and talks to her. And Remy can cleary see the girl leave the room. And then she gets him to chase her in the woods and lets him fuck her?? Yea, no.
Zane's dad is a dick and only cares about him being a hockey star. Zane tears something in his leg and his dad says suck it up and keep going. While he is in extreme pain, he also pushes Remy away. Then he breaks a rib and again, dad is like don't be a pussy. And also tells him to stay away from Remy or he will get her mom fired.
So Remy thinks he's just being an asshole. Then she goes to his house and sees Zane's dad punch Zane when he stands up for himself. So then his dad gets Remy's mom fired and cuts Zane off and kicks him out.
Remy is mad at Zane because her mom got fired, then she finds out about how Zane paid off Colin. So she says it's all his fault and wants time away from him.
Zane is living with his friend Caleb and working at a garage. He quit hockey and the society, the reapers.
Remy goes back to him. They apologize to each other and get back together.

You know what. I actually really enjoyed this book. I mean I'm in my hockey era of books right now and anything with hockey I'm pretty much one clicking. Never read anything from this author before and this book gave me a chance to get a feel of what to expect from other books.

This book started out really great. You've got the main characters Zane and Remy. At first I wasn't too keen on Remy but by the end of the book I did like her. I prefer Zane more myself. I do wish that you got to see more of dark element of what the book claims to have. Something a little more twisted but I can overlook that because I enjoyed the book a lot.

I liked the plot and the characters were great. I would have liked to know more about Caleb and Maya. Maybe there is a book in their future. And if there is I will read it. Will be checking out more from this author.

NO! Skip it! Easily worst book I’ve read in years. fr, don’t bother.

I’d started the book, then finished purely to see how it played out. It was sloppy. Poorly written. I’d imagine a 13 year old writing something like this. Far to many times I’d read something and think “why in the ever loving hell, is this what the author had chose to write happen?” Transitions are non existent. Lacks detailing. Some parts were just straight up annoying to read. Constantly rolled my eyes, and not for whatever was happening for the characters, but simply because of the writing. If someone handed this to me and said “hey, I’m 13-15 and this is my first draft,” I’d believe that over believing an educated adult wrote it.
Poor construct, poor context, poor…. Everything. Easily the absolute worst book I’ve read in years.

Ugh

I'm having a hard time with this review. Ugh.

Zane is a rich boy who's used to getting what he wants. Remy's a scholarship girl with a boyfriend.

Zane's ham fisted ways drive Remy crazy. She's attracted to him. He's nothing like her safe bf. She wants Zane, but holds back because of her relationship.

Zane buys the boyfriend off. He breaks up with her, leaving Remy free to get with Zane. He runs hot and cold. He's a raging fire for her, burning them both up. Then, he avoids her, like she doesn't matter to him at all.

They fall in love, but his father is an abusive pos who demands Zane ends it. Zane gets injured playing hockey, and daddy dearest forces him to play through it. He gets worse, until he finally reaches the point of no return.

What his father does next is reprehensible. Can these two lovers weather the storm or sink into the abyss?

Wow this book reeked.

Man oh man, I absolutely despised this and wish I could unread the 400 page waste bucket that washed across my kindle. I can tell the author tried and that just makes it worse. The couple literally made me sick to my stomach - they were not only bad to each other without even really ever defining a relationship, they were bad friends, bad sons/daughters (don’t get me wrong the dad per usual was a POS) but bleh!!!!

Also playing with a torn abductor muscle and just like vibing out??? Don’t college teams even have doctors??? Why didn’t Remy have BA Zane see her mom since she’s a GD nurse??

This whole stupid book was a WASTE of my actual young life so 🗑️

And the audacity to think I actually finished it! Maybe I was hoping it’d end in a car fire 🤷🏽‍♀️

1 star ⭐️ if even that Bro.

I have so many issues with this book. I need to stop agreeing to finish books for my friends because WTF was this mess?
1. This is not dark. It might feel dark for people who have only read rom coms.
2. Pacing is problematic.
3. Can we stop making every FMC obsessed with Taylor Swift. She's not that great and there are other artists who fit better, ESPECIALLY with a book that's supposed to be dark.
4. I am all about suspending reality, but this required WAY too much and over ridiculous things.
5. The FMC was bleh. The MMC was okay.
6. The ending made no sense. There were so many other options for this situation that would have made SO MUCH MORE SENSE.
7. The locker room and dude banter made me cringe. A lot.

Man, I could keep going, but good grief. WTF did I just read?

I loved the idea of this book because I’m obsessed with dark sports romance books. Zane was absolutely everything you’d expect in a dark book boyfriend possessive obsessed and absolutely gave no f#. Remy though got on my nerves quite a bit. She betrayed her boyfriend and wanted Zane but wouldn’t break it off with her boyfriend it seemed she was constantly trying to make Zane out to be the bad guy and constantly throwing him out which irritates me. The story at some points was a tad confusing as they’d be in one place and then it switches to another day or another place the next sentence. I did really love Zane’s character and his development

Editing Nightmare

Potential Spoilers:

I liked the story over all but it has serious editing issues. There was a time when the incorrect "your" was used. Then a few pages later there were words missing from a sentence. I had to reread it several times to make sure it wasn't just me misreading it.

There was a point in the book where Remy received a bracelet and the original description said the bracelet was gold but then a few pages later, said it was silver.

Later on in the book it said Zane was Icing his shoulder but then a few pages later, it turned into his leg that was hurting. I think it was just all over the place.

I think the premise of the book was great but it seemed to be caught in a draft stage. There were lots of plot holes that were never fulfilled. Things jumped around and often times didn’t make sense. For example, she gave him back her phone in one scene then immediately had it in the next scene. I was getting a little bit of character whiplash and didn’t feel like they ever really stuck with one character type and personality. And honestly the arguing back and forth got annoying. The set up for the characters was strong but the immature arguing and ‘miscommunication’ which was never clearly written was a bit off putting and confusing to read.

The H is OTT. He sees h and that’s it for him…..except for the random BJ he gets from an OW (ya know, to get over h 😬)

h cheats on her boyfriend. She has a bf when she meets H and she continues to mess around with H until her bf ends it (H actually gives him 150k to breakup with h) h was annoying throughout the whole book.

H’s dad is garbage 🗑️. He’s abusive. You couldn’t help feel bad for H. I did like the fact the author went there and actually had H walk away from his dad/millions. I liked to see him actually living like a normal person.

I like it all up until 53% where he got BJ from another girl. Trying to forget Remy. And this is after he takes her virginity. It was really disappointing. I actually liked him up until that point. I was so mad at Zane and Remy. Wasn’t he supposed to be obsessed with her? Thats not something an obsessed person does. And like why did she still wanna be with him after that that shit doesn’t make any sense to me? It’s stupid, is she really that pathetic?
I honestly almost DNF at the point. The rest of the way I was just skimming to get through it.

Remy literally was cheating on her boyfriend and I thought she would break up with him but literally won’t. Her bf broke up w her and she got so “so you’re just gonna give up on us???”. GIRL YOU DON’T EVEN LIKE HIM AND YOU’RE CHEATING ON HIM. And when Zane is like you ran right back to your bf after being with me, Remy said she was figuring things out. Remy you need to just not be in a relationship. You’re so selfish.

I loved this book! It was spicy the whole way through, but the character arc was well developed and kept it interesting. I finished this book so fast, and it had me smiling to myself so much! I love a strong female lead, and Remy was just that, while I found myself annoyed with her at some decisions, she was overall really get. Zane was a great lead, I loved the possessiveness and the change in the typical hockey star goes pro story!
