SOE agents Lizzie Beaumont and Captain Jack King receive a deadly new go undercover as newlyweds in collaborating Vichy France to build a Resistance network from a château in the Garonne Valley.
The secret lovers leap at the chance to be together while recruiting operatives willing to risk everything against the Nazi regime.
But caught in a web of deception, friend and foe are indistinguishable. Should they trust their new contact, who claims to be a Jewish Resistance operative? With sinister forces watching their every move, one wrong decision could be fatal.
In enemy territory, even love can kill.
A breathtaking historical romance of wartime espionage, where trust is the most dangerous gamble of all.
Rachel Henke’s novels are historical romantic adventures about strong women and tortured heroes, destined to be together against all odds.
She dreamt of being a novelist since she was seven years old and her dream came true at fifty!
Rachel lives with her real-life romantic hero in the beautiful Surrey town of Weybridge, where the Rivers Wey and Thames meet. She spends her days drinking excellent coffee, telling tales, and meeting the incessant demands of their bossy toy poodle.
Rachel also writes as R.A. Henke where she crafts captivating contemporary billionaire romance novels in the Rochesters series, delivering intensely emotional stories that explore the redemptive power of love.
Third book in this terrific WWII historic fiction series. SOE agents, and secret lovers, Lizzie and Jack have been sent to Toulouse to set up a new Resistance group. Posing as distant relatives of a local chateau owner (really Jack’s uncle) they collaborate with the locals while hiding in plain sight of the Nazis in their midst. Another exciting read that is just so easy and delightful to read.
This is one of those times that I wish the ratings let us choose a half star because I would give Whispers at Dawn 4.5 stars. This third book in the series sends Lizzie Beaumont, an SOE agent, into Vichy France, and she's not alone. She is sent to Toulouse with her boss/lover, Captain Jack King, to establish a new resistance group that can also help downed allied airmen get back to England. The setting of vineyards and lavender fields was glorious, so different from the first two books. If you prefer the romance aspect of this series, you'll love this one. I prefer the espionage component, which seemed almost secondary in Whispers at Dawn. I hope that a couple of new characters, particularly Uncle Luc, make another appearance in this series. If you're a WW II historical fiction fan and you haven't read any of this series, you need to get started! (Especially if you like smart, brave heroines.)
Well, number 3 in this wonderful series didn't disappoint! Lizzie and Jack (Seagrove & Raven) swept us away again to war torn France, with all the intrigue and dangers that being part of the resistance brings. Alongside this tense narrative is their beautiful love story. This installment also introduced more rich characters, some of whom l feel we will meet again! I want to be Seagrove and l want to meet Raven! Only one question...how long until book 4?! Please read this series..you will be spellbound!
The third in the series about British spies and lovers, Lizzie and Jack, was engrossing. I love the characters in this series, and in Whispers at Dawn, we meet Jack's Uncle Luc, a vintner in France. I look forward to seeing him in future books. Another excellent entry into the WWII saga.
This should be classed a Romance novel, not Historical fiction. Endless narrative about how in love the main characters were and precious little action\suspense dialogue. Shallow plot lines and thin character development.
This is 1 of the best world war 2 series I read in ages.
Hello— she won't be disappointed in this book it was absolutely mind boggling. I read it in 1 day. Catches your interest from the beginning to the end And I love the characters. I found a new author And Rachel Henke
I really love the historical accuracy of these stories. The characters and places are based on actual people and I'm sure some of the encounters are based in true situations.
