The author is someone I know and admire. As Superintendent of the school system where I taught, I was lucky enough to be chosen to serve on Dr. Debra Harden's Superintendent's Planning Committee. She was an excellent Superintendent of Schools, in her patience, encouragement, intelligence, organization, and leadership.

Knowing her in this way of looking up to Dr. Harden as an accomplished community leader and role model made reading her sensitive memoir an emotional read. I had no idea, and was surprised to learn of her difficult childhood.

Debra Harden's writing style is excellent, and I never lost interest throughout the book. Her story is realistic, sad, emotional, and heroic. I'm not surprised that Debra Harden pulled herself through a difficult childhood and eating disorder, and was able to finally forgive the people that damaged her psychological well-being.

Dr. Debra Harden's memoir is a gift to read, and provides hope to those who may feel they aren't able to pull themselves out of trauma or depression caused by a difficult childhood.

Full disclosure: I know the author. Reading the very difficult life story of someone I know was strange and sad and hard. I felt l still didn't have the whole picture, but it's her story to tell.

A beautifully written book from the heart- I feel confident Debra’s words will help others in their journeys as well as give all readers something to think about throughout their journeys in life.
