In the heat of victory, I asked her to be mine forever. We’d both triumphed in our own way: Nova broke free from her past. I led my team to a championship and discovered life beyond the court.
Our journey to "I do" was supposed to be easy. Except… The hottest resort in Aspen is only available on short notice. A new season with the Denver Kodiaks looms on the horizon. My parents are too obsessed with my career to get to know the woman who stole my heart. Add dueling bridesmaids, last-minute chaos, and a life-changing decision. With love and loyalty on the line, it’s time to score the most important win of our lives.
GAME DAY is a King of the Court wedding novella and should be read following Play Maker (King of the Court #3). Get ready for fun and games with Clay, Nova and all your favorite Kodiaks!
Piper Lawson is a Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author of smart, steamy romance! She writes about women who follow their dreams (even the scary ones), best friends who know your dirty secrets (and love you anyway), and complex heroes you’ll fall hard for (especially after talking with them). Brains or brawn? She’ll never make you choose. Piper lives in Canada with her tall, dark and brilliant husband. She believes peanut butter is a protein, rose gold is a neutral, and love is ALWAYS the answer.
I finally reached the end of Nova and Clay's love story.
This is the seven day countdown until her wedding with a sub drama between her sister Mari and her best friend Brooke, each trying to out-do themselves as the most important person in Nova's life. All that with them unbeknownst that Clay has already claimed that role.
They produce moments of stress which Nova really does not need when all she wants is a peaceful simple wedding to mark the ending of a turbulent past and the begining of a promising future.
Clay's parents were also another thorn in Nova's side with his mom reliving her own insecurities as to how weddings should be and presuming that Nova is a gold digger who wants to tie Clay to her by any means. Eventually, the mother apologises and warms up to Nova.
There were a few funny and endearing moments in this novella especially the bachelor and bachelorette incident.
Nova and Clay themselves were as always wonderful to read and cheer for especially with Clay going out of his way to secure a beautiful home for Nova. I adore how considerate and thoughtful he has been with Nova throughout the whole series.
And we finally see Nova getting the tattoo that Clay owed her since day one. I don't get why she chose that particular tattoo though.
It was a lovely ending to the series and although it was faulty at times and disappointed me a little especially in Book 3 but I loved Nova and Clay and I definitely recommend reading this series.
Who doesn't love to read something extra, something like a little treat, from their favorite couple? Game Day, a novella about Nova and Clay, was a trip down the memory lane and also journey to the heartwarming future. Piper Lawson managed to capture all the feels and spice in this novella and I am so ready for more Kodiaks!
This novella must be read after Nova and Clay's trilogy. Kodiaks are the NBA champion and Clay is the star. The road wasn't easy but Clay has finally got it. But his real prize is Nova, his fiance. They are ready to get married but a whole lot of issues are on the way.
I was so excited to read more of Nova and Clay's story! Nova is one of my favorite heroine ever. I admire her so much for her sweet but sassy heart. She has been through a lot and she slayed her demons. She carries such a silent strength. The biggest NBA star is crazy for her but she is so down to earth. She isn't dazzled by the fame and money. All she wants is Clay. Clay's life is being dragged to different directions. The Kodiaks' success, the constant demand of attention from different sectors, pressure and expectations of upcoming season..& all he wants is to get married to the woman who has lightened up his world. But even a simple marriage plan is getting complicated. By fighting bridesmaids. By sudden appearance of his parents who isn't exactly warm to Nova. By his failed search of the dream home he wants to gift Nova. This story shows just how strong their bond is and how intense their connection is. All the chaos only highlights how pure and strong their love is. I am so weak for weddings in books and I almost cried like a baby.
“Game Day” … gah! I cannot say enough good things about this series. If you’re reading this book, you already know all about Clay and Nova’s love story. If you haven’t read this book, please read through the trilogy and then come back.
I am a huge fan of Piper Lawson, this is no secret. My favorite series of hers is the “King of the Court”. With that being said, “Game Day” is the best way this trilogy could have ended. As readers, we’re given a brief glimpse into Nova and Clay’s lives post season. We get to see Nova plan her wedding with Clay and watch their love story cement. We also get a brief look into the next series, which features Miles and Brooke (eep!).
Lawson’s writing produces a novella that packs as much heat as her full length work. There is virtually no angst and all of the focus is on how our characters are enjoying their lives together. If you’re a sucker for slice-of-life stories, you’re going to fall in love with this novella.
4.25 STARS I love this “catch up” novella to the 𝙺𝙸𝙽𝙶 𝙾𝙵 𝚃𝙷𝙴 𝙲𝙾𝚄𝚁𝚃 series! I loved the trilogy of Nova and Clay’s rocky road to romance. (The series must be read in order.) Wedding bells are ringing for this dynamic couple. They want to elope and things start to go a bit differently than planned. It brings family stress and pressure on the couple who are trying to juggle their very busy lives. It was a fun, romantic and super hot novella with all the entertaining secondary characters and a hint at what and who is going to be in the next book. There are some emotional elements and some fun times with friends. Of course there’s hot and steamy moments with Nova and Clay. It was so entertaining, I enjoyed the story and seeing the characters at this point in their relationship.
If you were looking for just the right amount of fluffy, swoon worthy romance, stuffed full of spice with just the tiniest pinch of drama all leading to the most epic ending to this part of the Kodiaks series than Piper Lawson has not disappointed you!
Don’t read any further if you haven’t read the previous books in the King of the Court series as this is the final book for these characters and you do need to read their previous books to understand!
In game day we pick up essentially right where Play Maker left off, and that’s thrust right into planning a wedding on the fly. And of course with a group as crazy as this there’s bound to be a few hilarious antics as well as a few dramatic moments! But hey at the end of the day as long as Clay and Nova make it through the “I Dos” and get their happily ever after then alls well that ends well!
I truly loved this novella!! I have been obsessed with this series since I first picked up Game Changer hoping to get out of a reading slump, and while it’s a little bittersweet to see Clay and Novas story coming to an end… I can’t wait to read Miles and Brookes book next! But Game Day was everything I could’ve asked for to wrap up Clay and Novas story, it has such sweet romantic moments, combined with the hilarious banter and antics the Kodiak family and friends group is known for, and reading their wedding scene was just so sweet it was like the readers are sitting in the audience watching these characters we love get their happily ever after!
Honestly, if you’re looking for a sweet novella that just wraps the King of the Court series perfectly then this is it! And if you’re looking for an amazing grumpy/sunshine series between a struggling artist whose trying to find her place in the world and a pro basketballer who is looking to rekindle his spark for life, that is full of romance, spice, slice of life moments, and just the right amount of drama to keep you on the edge of your seat than I absolutely recommend this entire series!
Game Dayby Piper Lawson is a bonus novella fromKing of Courtseries. With the countdown for Game Day aka Clay and Nova’s wedding day on, it’s going to be anything but easy. Especially if their family, friends and careers have anything to say about it.
Nova and Clay’s bonus journey was a mini adventure with a narrative that made for an entertaining story. Not only was it a great mix of cute and sweet, swoon worthy romance, given the feels it had you in. With a sprinkle of drama, some laughter and spicy steam of course, it had Piper Lawson delivering a well written story with a perfect ending to Nova and Clay’sHEA, finally getting to see them not only make it down the aisle. As well as seeing them say “I Do”, which was the icing on the cake, knowing all that the two had faced and endured throughoutKing of Courtseries to get to where they were now. Including this bookGame Daytoo, given the slight bumpy ride.
This 250 page novella may have been a fairly quick moving story, then again that was to be expected since author Piper made following Nova and Clay to the aisle an enjoyable read, so much so you couldn’t help but devour it, being gripped from the beginning right unto the very end.
After following Nova and Clay’s trilogy journey inKing of Courtseries, it was bittersweet knowing the chapter has now come to a close with this bonus novellaGame Day. Then again with a perfectly beautiful HEA ending for the couple, seeing them finish on a high note, author Piper made it very worthwhile. After finishing this novella, it definitely had me missing Nova and Clay, with not wanting it to end and needing more. Hats off to Piper Lawson for not only this chefs kiss, but also the overall series as a whole.
*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Game Day is the fourth book in the King of the Court series and cannot be read as a standalone. It’s a novella about Clay and Nova after their HEA in Play Maker.
Clay and Nova’s story (Game Changer) was my first book by Piper Lawson, and I loved it. So, I was excited to get back to them (and the other Kodiak) and see what they’re up to now.
They’re planning their wedding, and Clay is still the same sweet, supportive, and loving man that Nova brought out. And Nova is still sweet and strong, not letting people just push her around. With their wedding, of course more problems pop up, more drama. But at the end of the day, it’s their wedding, so they just do what makes them happy.
This was so fun and cute. I loved being back in the Kodiaks’ world, and I’m excited to see what’s next.
Game Day was the perfect cherry on top, ending the King of the Court series!
I loved getting to see Nova and Clay in the days leading up to their (very rush planned) wedding. It felt stressful and real lol.
Clay was being pulled in so many directions, Nova had to balance a bulk of the wedding planning, but at the end of the day it was all so worth it. Their love for each other and their passions was so evident throughout this series and this book.
I’m excited to read about other Kodiak players soon! 😉
Thank you Piper and Valentine PR for the eARC in exchange for my honest review <3
When all he says is “Pink” and you turn into a puddle on the floor. 🥵 I say this every time I read a @piperlawson novel but she can’t write a bad book! You cannot convince me otherwise. I loved the balance of spice, emotions, and of course the scenes that had me cracking up! I devoured this book in less than 24 hours and my only complaint is I want more! Not that anything was left unfinished just I want to live in these worlds and never leave! This was a beautiful way of tying a little bow on Clay and Nova’s story. I will be holding my breath until Hard to Fake comes out! Clay will forever be our #grumpyballer!
I received an advance review copy but this review is my own honest opinions.
Everyone loves a wedding right? It’s a yes until you factor in a grumpy baller and his pink haired artist sneaking in a marriage before the season starts, looking for a house, feuding potential matrons of honour, less than impressed in laws and the bachelor and bachelorette parties. No wonder Clay and Nova considered eloping.
In the final instalment of Game Day we come a full circle with Clay and his girl Pink (aka Nova), reliving some of the memories that made their story so special, whilst navigating their slightly bumpy path the altar. This one is a snappy little novella, with all the emotion you come to expect with these two. Clay has softened over the course of the series and Nova is as delightful as ever.
this epilogue was so cute and everything I needed! my babies are getting married and of course it came with a good dose of drama but clay and nova worked through it all perfectly and got their happy ending 🥹they will forever have my heart and this was the perfect epilogue to end their series!
I received an ARC of this book and this is my voluntarily, honest review of it.
It was wonderful to be back in the world of the Kodiaks and this time we see how Clay and Nova get married. Their intention was to elope to get married in complete secrecy, but then Nova falls in love with a beautiful view and resort in Aspen. So the new plan is to organize a small wedding in a short period of time without the press finding out. But even if you have a very wealthy fiancé who wants to make all your wishes come true, there are still some things that even he can’t help her with. Nova wants everything to be perfect and everyone to be happy, but the closer the date gets, the harder it becomes to balance it all.
This is a fun and sexy novella length story. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces again from the previous books but also from other books/series. The story was told from both POV’s. In this story we also met Clay’s parents, unfortunately it wasn’t a pleasant visit for Nova. Clay and Nova were still very much in love and I loved seeing them together without any drama. Their friends were just as loyal and funny as in the previous stories. They made for some funny scenes in the story.
This is the HEA we have been waiting for. With all of the ups and downs that Clay and Nova have been through they deserve it. In this book they are planning a wedding and dealing with a pain in the butt Mayor of the town and Clay's mother isn't helping thing at all. Also Brooke and Mari fighting over making wedding plans. Both want to be MOH. They planned on eloping to Paris but Nova finds a wonderful amazing place in Denver so plans changed quickly. Wonderful treat to read about Annie and Little Queen One of my favourite parts of the won.derful book are the bachelorette/bachelor parties. Nova's is a pole dances class and Clay's is an outdoor escape room. While the guys go skinny dipping the ladies show up and steal their clothes. lol All comes together in the end and have an amazing wedding. I loved the Mari walked Nova down the aisle. Was a special moment. Thank you Piper for another amazing book. Bring on Miles and Brooke's story
This was such a sweet treat for the end of an amazing series!
Game Day, book 4 of the King of the Court series, was a great ending to such a great series! This novella marks the end of Clay and Nova’s story. We get to see Clay and Nova happy and planning their wedding. They finally faced all of their demons together and it was so nice to get to see them in the days leading up to their marriage.
I loved so much getting to know these characters and their story. Their love and compassion for each other showed in how they were there for each other and supported each other throughout the whole series.
I’ve followed this series since the very beginning, so when I heard Nova and Clay were getting a wedding novella I was so so excited!
This was everything I hoped it would be. There was wedding planning, there was spice, there was Kodiak family shenanigans. I loved it. I loved seeing all my favorite characters together again and seeing them plan bachelor and bachelorette parties, it made me miss this world more than I already do. Clay and Nova will always have my heart and this just solidified that fact, their wedding was so perfect for them🥹. This is me petitioning all my fave authors to follow Piper and start doing wedding novellas, it was like coming home. 🩷
The Final Quarter to end it for our Play Maker Couple!!
In Nova and Clay fashion, their wedding is no difference. To a point, that I’m even thinking maybe it was a good idea they had gone through with their original plan and eloped.
I understand that Nova’s best friend and sister are meaning well, but man they are stressing her out. To Clay’s parents showing up out of nowhere, to in a sense make sure their golden child is making the right choice. Not to mention, the season is literally just around the corner, and this year they are defending the championship. So pressure!
But they all manage to come together and make their wedding their dream and in only a couple of weeks too!
I laughed. I got pissed. And I even got a little teary eyed! I’ve loved their journey. And to see how far they’ve come as individuals and as a couple has been amazing. Endings are always bittersweet! But luckily for us when it comes to Piper, she always finds a way to never really letting it be over!
To Nova and Clay! May she always be the light in his darkest hours and may he always be her protector, the one to have her back!!!
This novella was the absolutely perfect way to wrap up Clay and Nova's romance. There are huge feels to bask in as this couple ties the knot and heads into their HEA. Sweet and spicy, cute and funny, and incredibly heartfelt and intensely swoon worthy, this story was like a beautiful dream that had just enough heartstring tugging to make it poignantly lifelike. Sigh...I just love this couple so much.
Game Changer: 3 spicy scenes (306 pgs) Shot Taker: 4 spicy scenes (302 pgs) Play Maker: 4 spicy scenes (237 pgs) Game Day: 3 spicy scenes (148 pgs)
This story follows Clay and Nova over the course of 4 books.
Clay and Nova meet on an airplane when she says to him, “You should be a basketball player”. Little does she know, he is. And they have a connection. Her soon to be brother in law works for the team he plays for. He’s high up on the office side, and Clay and Nova end up running into each other over the next few weeks. They are drawn to each other, but she doesn’t live in Colorado, and he’s trying to get traded to LA. So they end up breaking up. It’s now book 2, and she’s back in Colorado. Clay tries to stay away, but struggles to, and they slowly begin to rekindle things. Over the next few books, they have a few hiccups to get over, and life isn’t always easy. But ultimately, they want to be together and will do anything they can to make it happen.
The spice is there, nothing too crazy, just a few scenes per book that aren’t anything super descriptive or long.

We love a good wedding special! Clay and Nova have come so far their wedding shenanigans were a cute ending to their story. Their bachelor/bachelorette nights were ideal pre wedding fun for me. Clay’s mother was ridiculous but I LOVED that he had Nova’s back. Nobody would stand in the way of him marrying the love of his life 🥰
The short and sweet culmination to the trilogy we needed!
I love when I get to read surprise novellas of my favorite characters. This was the perfect way to close Clay and Nova’s story, with their wedding and the joy, love and stress that comes with it! This was the perfect length and I’m happy to be back with these characters!
Wow! Nova and Clay were everything! I loved seeing every little thing leading up to the wedding! I really enjoyed these two so much! The ending was beautiful! 💜🏀💖🥰🎨
4th and last book of the the King of the court,Clay and nova story has had me hocked from book one.
This Novella gives us a look at the wedding as alway it dosn’t run as smoothly as there both want, Clay is busy with Kodiaks stuff and a surprise for Nova, Nova has her sister and best friend helping with the organising the wedding and she meet her future mother-in-law 🙁.
For me it covered everything you need to finish there story off, I loved these two so much and had it finished in a few hours 5🌟
This is exactly the way I imagined Clay and Nova's wedding would be! Beautiful and just a little chaotic. After deciding to elope to save everyone the trouble of having to coordinate wild schedules, Nova ends up in the perfect wedding venue that just happens to have an opening right before the Kodiaks' season starts. Now the pressure is on to organize a wedding, please the inlaws and remind both the bridesmaids that it's Nova and Clay's wedding, all while Clay is preparing for the season and working on his own super secret project 🏡
I flew through this quick read and loved every second of it! I'm a sucker for knowing what happens after the happily ever afters and this hit the spot! 🩷 💜
Such a great ending for Clay and Nova! A true happy ending. I cannot wait to see what happens in the next set of books! Loved this one and excited for more Piper books coming this coming year.
I love a little post-HEA novella that gives me a glimpse into the couple’s life! Clay + Nova were a favorite from the beginning, so I enjoyed reading their journey toward the altar. A cute little bookend to their story! 10/10 recommend.
I received an advanced reader copy to review voluntarily.
