Visiting her friends Ellie and Charlie in Hawaii was supposed to be a much-needed vacation for journalist Justine Simms. But when she learns the notoriously reclusive pro-surfer Chase Ryder is coming out of retirement for a competition, she knows she's found the perfect exclusive to save her career. Of course, then she learns he's the gorgeous, secretly nerdy guy who broke her heart a year ago.

Will Davenport—aka Chase Ryder—doesn't do interviews. He keeps his real name out of the papers and doesn't mix his public life with his private. That is, until the still-heartbroken Justine blackmails him into giving her an exclusive. Seeing Justine, stunningly beautiful as ever, brings back all the feelings he had before. But despite their smoldering attraction, nothing has changed since he had to leave her the first time.

Each book in the Perfect Kisses series is a standalone, full-length story that can be enjoyed out of order.

3.5 - "I was a bigger douchebag than Justin Beaver." Stars!

Ophelia London has given us a really enjoyable little addition to the Perfect Kisses Series.

He was pretty sure sex on the beach - the action, not the cocktail - was a big no-no.

It was great to catch up with Ellie & Charlie (Falling For Her Soldier, Book 3), and I really liked Chase/Will and Justine. Both were characters with a few insecurities and secrets, and I liked that the time they spent together was used to try and work through those issues and move forward...

She was a fighter...The strongest woman he knew.

Although there is a little drama, I love that Ophelia's Perfect Kisses series concentrates more on the couple and their story, rather than dragging out the lows, she really enhances the highs of the story. This is a quick, cute, sweet read, and I hope it isn't the end of the series.

Title: Making Waves
Series: Yes (Can be read as Standalone)
Author: Ophelia London
Release Date: June 16th, 2014
Rating: 3 "Go with the waves" stars
Cliffhanger: No
HEA:

This was a nice easy read, low in drama but high in enjoyment. I haven't read any of the previous books in the Perfect Kisses series but it didn't detract from being able to follow the story although you got the sense that some characters were reoccurring.

Justine is a journalist in need of her next big story and a vacation. Visiting friends in Hawaii she catches a break that may fast track her career as she learns notorious reclusive Pro Surfer Chase Ryder is making his comeback.

Intent to cover the story, she gets more than her exclusive as she discovers Chase is none other than her Will. Will the one who got away, feeling betrayed and hurt she gives him an ultimate; give her, her exclusive of face having his cover blown.

 photo 28CF1467-D0C5-40E6-B87F-AC6C7E65527F_zpsvipblezc.jpg

Will Justine uncover more than she bargained for and reveal far more than she intends too?
Can Will trust Justine to keep his identity secret? Can Justine let go of the hurt and Will the fear the past will repeat itself?

You'll have to read it to find out!

It's sweet how the characters reconnect and learn to trust one another while helping each other with there fears and insecurities. Will was a genuinely nice character, past events have forced him to shun the limelight and he is fiercely protective over keeping his identity private. Some of the best scenes for me where when he was helping Justine overcome her fear.

In honesty this book is a departure for me, there is virtually no steam but I enjoyed it all the same.

Making Waves a fabulous addition to Ophelia London's Perfect Kisses series. Everything she brought us in her full length novels has been condensed into a wonderful novella that is sweet, sexy and leaves you with a smile on your face. I loved it and Will and Justine were completely endearing. Surfers have now entered the realms of my literary loves...it's the fresh from the ocean look that does it.

description

Pro Surfer Chase Ryder is Will Davenport. Or should that be Will Davenport is Chase Ryder. Either way, behind the names is a sexy gent who won me over straight away. When Justine Simms arrives in Hawaii to visit Ellie and Charlie (our couple from Falling for her Soldier) and possibly interview Chase Ryder, she is greeted with the same man who created waves in her life and left her...

With fun and humour combined with heartfelt and touching, I devoured it. Granted it had said of predictability, but that is minor when the romance is so good. Whether you're reading as a standalone, or as an addition to the series, it's a book I recommend.

Oh, Entangled Bliss, it was been too long since I've picked one of you up. How I've missed you and your sweet romances that leave me swooning and smiling simultaneously! And though Falling For Her Soldier is the only Perfect Kisses novel I've read until now, I quickly realized that I've missed this series. To have the opportunity to revisit Charlie and Ellie, now living in Hawaii, was a treat.

Basically, Making Waves is the perfect summer beach read. You have the gorgeous Hawaiian setting, a surfer hero with a secret, and a second chance love story. Justine - sister to Mac from Speaking of Love- is visiting Charlie and Ellie (from Falling For Her Soldier), who've been relocated to Hawaii, on a much-needed vacation. The past year has been rough on Justine, who lost her best friend in a tragic accident, and her boyfriend Will the next day. When a big story on pro surfer Chase Ryder nearly falls in her lap, Justine decides to go for it. When she approaches Chase for an interview, the past collides with her present. Justine has questions, and Chase wants another chance.

Despite my efforts to connect the dots between this and previous installments, Making Waves can definitely be read as a standalone. I will admit though, that revisiting Charlie and Ellie made me smile a lot, and if I hadn't read their book before, I would most definitely be making it a priority. And honestly, it makes me want to go back and read Playing at Love and Speaking of Love, as well.

Everything I've said about the series as a whole aside, I enjoyed Making Waves for the fun and romantic love story it was. Chase was deliciously complicated, and Justine was intriguing in her own right. I was pulled in by the twistiness of their past relationship, and finding out why Chase left Justine like he did. London gave the two a fantastic sense of chemistry, and wow, did she give good visual for Chase's surfer physique. *fans self*

Making Waves was such a fast, fun read. I cared about and believed in Justine and Chase. I smiled, I swooned, and I left the story feeling happy and satisfied and ready for the beach.

What I really loved about Making Waves by Ophelia London was it made me ask the question, “What would I do?” Seriously if you came across a guy you dated, a guy you really liked, a guy who left you naked in his apartment without an explanation of how you got there, and you found out that the guy was really a famous person and using a completely different name while with you; how would you handle it? For Justine Simms there’s no question; a journalist whose job in on the line she plans on getting a story from the media shy surfer Chase Ryder (aka Will Davenport) because if he doesn’t give it to her she’ll expose him and his two identities. Ms. London is one of those writers who always manages to snare me early on in her books and this one was no different; completely engaging, enjoyable characters, and blazing sexual tension throughout made it impossible to put this book down.
In Hawaii for a long weekend get-away Justine jumps at the chance to get a career saving interview with the elusive surfer Chase Ryder, a celebrity who have never granted interviews. When she realizes that Chase is really Will, she knows she’s going to get exactly what she wants but what she doesn’t plan on is getting so much more.
I really admired Justine’s tenacity and the way she handled Chase/Will. She was still raw over the way he ended things and she had holes in her memory from that night that she knows only he can fill in but she is more determined to save her job than she is to play nice with Chase/Will. I liked Justine and I felt like she was probably a lot more profession with him than most people would have been but then again it was pretty obvious that she felt something towards him and it was more than just simple lust.
Chase/Will seems like this really laid back guy when in reality there’s so much more to him; hence the two very distinct personalities (and this isn’t a split personality thing, it’s the way he manages his life). While shocked to see Justine, from the minute he sees her the reader just knows there’s a lot more to the way he feels than he lets on and the heat between them, even a dip in the ocean wouldn’t cool most people off.
These two have history and not all of it’s pretty yet you just get the feeling that had their last night together not played out the way it did, they would have still been together. It just felt right when they were in each other’s company. They had this remarkable easy way of being with each other and despite everything there was trust between them because they both shared so much of themselves with the other. That’s not to say they didn’t have some pitfalls but luckily they had family and friends to slap them upside the head so I didn’t have to.
Fun and flirty yet sexy and smoldering, this book will heat up and have you wanting to jump in and make some waves of your own. Don’t miss this spectacular offering from Ophelia London!

Who doesn't like a second chance love story? Making Waves was short, sweet and just a hint of spicy. I admit that this was my first Ophelia London book and it won't be my last. Yes, my first, so you may notice I've missed a few books in between. Even though I jumped into this series out of order, I didn't feel as though I was lost. If anything, it's made me want to go back and read the other books in the series!

Justine heads to Hawaii for a little R&R and to visit friends Ellie and Charlie. When she gets there, she learns that there will be a surf competition and surfer, Chase Ryder, is coming out of retirement just to compete. Since Justine is a journalist, she takes the opportunity to try and get the scoop on this guy. When they meet, her heart stops. Chase is the same as the guy, Will, who break her heart.

Justine makes Will a deal. She wants his story and he wants a chance to win her heart again. Seems like a good deal for both of them. The thing is, neither of them trust one another. Justine still doesn't understand his reasons for walking out and fears that he could do it again. Will needs to keep his personal life separate from his public life. Here's where the conflict comes in. Trust is broken. I leave you to see what happens with that.

What I loved the most about this novella is that even though they didn't trust each other in some ways, they really used each other to overcome some of their own fears. Justine lost a friend in a drowning accident and since then fears the water. Will helps Justine break through that fear and go back to something she loves...being in the water. And for Will, combining his personal and professional life was scary. He had some issues early in his career that caused him to become the recluse he was known to be. Once Justine's article hits, he realizes that things have changed and he has control over life. So, I felt they both grew and they played a part in that for each other.

Overall, I really liked both Will and Justine. They were sweet together. I also liked getting a glimpse of Ellie and Charlie. I'm anxious to read the first three books in the series now, so I can get to know all the characters! Making Waves was the perfect summer read and ideal for a hot beach day. If you want something short and sweet, this is a perfect pick for you!

Sigh. Sun-kissed Hawaiian beaches and reconnecting with a long-lost love who just happens to be an ultra-hot professional surfer? Sign me up. Actually, sign me up for all of Ophelia London's books because I can't get enough.

The summary for this is pretty spot on. I loved this storyline and this scene. I really liked Will and liked Justine okay. And I loved seeing Ellie and Charlie so blissfully happy and snuggly here. This story was fast-paced and left a smile on my face. You really can't go wrong with Ophelia London, and I can't wait to see where she takes us next.

This is the perfect beachside or poolside read. It's a quick fun, flirty novella that will you will not put down till you have finished.

Ophelia London has delivered another fantastic story, with the added bonus of catching up with Charlie and Ellie from Falling for her Soldier, which is one of my favourite books.

Justine and Will were a lot of fun to read, I loved the fact they were together then apart only for fate to bring them back together. Plus watching Will help Justine face her well deserved fear of the water was heartwarming.

This novella shows why I have Ophelia London as an auto buy author. I am already looking forward to more.

This was the first time I'd read any of Ophelia London's work and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. She packed this quick read full of fun. What could be better than two charming characters you just had to root for??? Throw in a some drama and a dash of heat and you're definitely in for a treat. Took this thing down in 2 hours. Perfect for an afternoon in the sun with a cold drink in hand.

Now I'm off to go buy out her collection. Definitely left wanting more!

I really enjoyed this novella! This is my first read of Ophelia’s and I’m so looking forward to reading the other books in this series. The characters from book 3 “Falling for Her Soldier” are in it a little bit, but this can definitely be read as a stand-alone. I really liked these characters. Great for a fun, sweet, quick summer read!

"I could not help concluding this man had the most supreme pleasure while he was driven so fast and so smoothly by the sea" - Captain James Cook, first documented European explorer to come ashore in Hawaii in 1778.

Ophelia London delivers a flirty, engaging, and heartfelt story of "second chances" in this novella. Justine Simms is looking for the "big story" that can make (or break) her journalism career. Her chance comes on a quick trip from LA to Honolulu. Justine intended to spend the long weekend with Ellie and Charlie (from FALLING FOR HER SOLDIER). She hoped the change in scenery will nurse her broken heart after IT guy Will Davenport walked out on their third date. Instead, she chases after a rumor that surfing legend Chase Ryder is coming out of retirement for the expected "Eddie" challenge.

Let me break from the review to spotlight Eddie Aikau. He was a legendary big wave surfer who worked as a lifeguard at Waimea Beach Park. He competed to be a crew member on the Taihit voyage of the Hokulea - a replica of a double hulled voyaging canoe. The Hokulea left Honolulu harbor in choppy waters on March 16, 1978, only to capsize overnight off the coast of Moloka'i. With no modern equipment to call for help, Eddie volunteered to paddle towards land for help. He stripped off his lifevest to paddle faster ... and he was lost at sea. Hawaii wept for her lost son. Eddie remains a hero of selfless service. Today, surfers say "Eddie would go" when the big waves arrive on Oahu's North Shore during the Winter Season. Quicksilver hosts the "Eddie" surf invitation only when open open swells reach 20 feet. The tournament has only been held eight times since 1984.

Returning to the review, Justine travels to the North Shore with the determined goal of interviewing the reclusive Chase Ryder. After the opening ceremony, Justine realizes that Chase Ryder is Will Davenport. After she recovers from her shock, Justine asks "Chase" for an interview in exchange for her silence on his double life. As they spend time together over the course of one day, Justine drifts from her "professional" interview of a surf legend to seeking "personal" closure of their presumed breakup. Hero and heroine reveal their emotional baggage as they explore a few hidden gems along Oahu's shores. London uses the 122 pages wisely to convey past pain that both Justine and Will suffered before they began to date - pain that seemed to doom their relationship. Just as the kai (sea) is life to the Hawaiians, wading into the kai allowed Justine and Will come to terms with their past ... and hope for a future.

London is spot on with her vivid descriptions of the Hawaiian landscape and incorporating Hawaiian culture into the story. MAKING WAVES is a complete story ... but I certainly would like to follow Justine and Will into their Happily Ever After in another story.

MAKING WAVES is Book 3.5 in London's Perfect Kisses series. I read this novella as a stand alone story since I have not read the previous books in the series ... something that I will rectify shortly! Five surfboards, er, stars for Ophelia London!

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 16, 2104

She’s in over her head and he’s in hot water…

Visiting her friends Ellie and Charlie in Hawaii was supposed to be a much-needed vacation for journalist Justine Simms. But when she learns the notoriously reclusive pro-surfer Chase Ryder is coming out of retirement for a competition, she knows she’s found the perfect exclusive to save her career. Of course, then she learns he’s the gorgeous, secretly nerdy guy who broke her heart a year ago.

Will Davenport—aka Chase Ryder—doesn't do interviews. He keeps his real name out of the papers and doesn’t mix his public life with his private. That is, until the still-heartbroken Justine blackmails him into giving her an exclusive. Seeing Justine, stunningly beautiful as ever, brings back all the feelings he had before. But despite their smoldering attraction, nothing has changed since he had to leave her the first time.

~~~~~~
REVIEW: MAKING WAVES is the latest instalment in Ophelia London’s Perfect Kiss series. This is journalist Justine Simms and pro surfer Chase Ryder’s (aka Will Davenport) storyline. Although it is the fourth instalment in the series, it can be read as a stand alone without too much difficulty. MAKING WAVES is a second chance novella about love and forgiveness.
The premise follows Justine as she is invited to Hawaii by friends Ellieand Charlie (Falling For Her Soldier-Perfect Kisses #3) a for a little rest and relaxation. When the paper where she works begins a round of lay offs, Justine needs to find the next big story to save her job and Chase Ryder’s return to the surfing circuit seems like the ideal chance-but Chase is not the man with whom Justine fell in love-it is Will Davenport-Chase’s private persona and the man who broke Justine’s heart when he disappeared from her life six months earlier. Hoping to get to the truth, Justine is surprised when Chase demands his true identity remains ‘off the record’.
The relationship between Justine and Chase is acrimonious as both have pent up frustrations and emotions. Chase wants his identity kept a secret and Justine wants to know why Will/Chase walked away six months earlier. AS the storyline develops our couple will begin to understand more about one another and the love they once felt begins to bloom anew.
MAKING WAVES is a romantic look at a second chance at love. There is no sex, no violence and no graphic language. It is a short story with likeable characters and a happily ever after. The connection to the Perfect Kiss series comes by way of Justine’s best friend Ellie whose story is told in Perfect Kisses #3-Falling For Her Soldier.
Making Waves by Ophelia London is another fantastic read from her Perfect Kisses Series. This is a novella about Justine Simms as she ventures to Hawaii and finds a piece of her past she thought was long over – the one that broke her heart, Will Davenport. This novella reads like a standalone, but this series is so enjoyable you’ll want to get your hands on every one of the books.
Will Davenport leads a double life. On the one side, he’s Will – a brilliant introvert with a nerdy side. His other alias is reclusive professional surfer Chase Ryder – a risk taker who thrives in the ocean and has women swooning hard over him. I absolutely loved this book boyfriend. He’s tender and genuine but loves fiercely. Will isn’t interested in the fame, he only wants to pursue his passion for surfing and isn’t willing to risk his privacy just to see his real name plastered across the internet. I loved how humble he was.
This read was the perfect fix for anyone in a book slump. Making Waves has the perfect balance of romance, witty banter, and attention holding drama. I devoured this novella in just a few hours. While I am completely satisfied with Justine and Will’s story, I can’t help but be greedy and want more. Heck, I just want more from this series! Each story is unique yet familiar and Ophelia London never disappoints.
Get your hands on Making Waves by Ophelia London today. It’s the perfect summer read that will sweep you away on a mini-vacation to Hawaii without even leaving your house.
Thank you to Entangled Bliss and Net Galley for providing me with a copy
This is perfect summer read, it has a tropical setting of Oahu in Hawaii and a hot young couple.
Justine arrives in Oahu on a much needed vacation, as a journalist she needs to break a big story in order for her career to continue and she hopes a trip to the island will recharge her batteries. What she doesn't expect is to come across Will the guy who up and left her after a few sweet weeks the previous year, sweet nerdy Will is no longer sweet and nerdy he has an alter ego in pro surfer Chase Ryder and when Justine sets her eyes back on him all her feelings from the previous year come flooding back.
She sees a story and threatens to reveal his alter ego unless he gives her an interview, one that is guaranteed to reignite her flailing career and possible upset his but she demands that he also must tell her why he walked out on her.
Justine also has to deal with the recent loss of her friend in a boating accident, to her the ocean used to be the place that she loved to spend time in but now all she wants to do is avoid it.
Can they get over what has happened in the past and find a way to have future together?
This is a gorgeous quick read to spend time with on the beach or to help you pretend you are on the beach!
Short and sweet, there's a lot to like in this novella:
1) Will, AKA Chase Ryder, is a Clark Kent-type hero--part-time geeky tech guy, part-time surfing god.
2) It's set in HAWAII.
3) The bathing-suit-shopping scene.
4) We get to see Ellie and Charlie from Falling For Her Soldier again.
5) The making-out-in-the-water scene getting-Justine-over-her-phobia scene.
6) Lovers-with-a-past troupe!
7) Did I mention HAWAII? ;)
Only two downsides:
1) The past drama seemed a bit on the fluffy side. I expected it to be more than it ended up being, given the buildup. Still, it was resolved fairly quickly, which was a plus.
2) The resolution of the current-day problem was also an easy fix, I assume due in part to the restaints of writing a novella. It felt a bit like cheating. Perhaps a longer format would have allowed this part to develop more fully?
Overall, this was a fun way to escape to the beach for an afternoon--without risking the dreaded sand in your suit!
A Light & Cute Romance!
MAKING WAVES by Ophelia London is a fun read! At just 122 pages, you can enjoy it in one afternoon and it is a great addition to her Perfect Kisses series. It can easily be read as a standalone. There are interconnected characters, but this series does not need to be read in order.
The fabulous Hawaiian setting lured me in right away. This is the perfect escape read to the beach! It was like taking a mini-vacation there and it didn't require leaving my home!
You won’t be disappointed with this novella, because there are plenty of ah, oh wow, and oh no moments as they get reacquainted and Will/Chase tries to protect his identity while pursuing a journalist—there’s bound to be a mishap there. I love how Chase and Justine attempted to get to know each other on a whole new level, and at times everything seemed so perfect. However, I soon found that Making Waves captured the ups and downs of relationships due to words left unsaid and unfortunate mistakes.
I had the perfect set up when reading this book; outside next to a pool, with the sun out and a nice big sunhat. That only thing better would be sitting on the beach.
I love this book, it was a great novella that was just as good as Ophelia London’s full length works. Making Waves was fun but it has the right mix of heartfelt, touching. At some points it was predictability, but with all the great romance, I was fine with it. The characters are very endearing and felt real. 5 out of 5 stars. One of my favorite this year! If you are looking for a quick, fun, summer read for the beach or pool: THIS IS IT!
Ophelia London. Need I say more? (Uh, yes? Okay, then…)
Fabulous second chance story. Breezed through it, and loved every page of it. Chase/Will and Justine are both wonderful to read. Love the heat—super mild, for those concerned—and the humour. It's comfortably predictable, which I find is often the case with London's works, but oh so charming and enjoyable especially with the Chellie cameo (no shirt-off coconot chopping, though, too bad).
London's fluffy yet flirty writing always satisfies. Happy to indulge in it any time.
This was a cute story about how sometimes things aren't always as they seem & how everything has it's time. I really enjoyed the descriptive scenery & it made me wish I could teleport myself there. The relationship between Justine & Will was hot and felt very believable. Note that this is a PG 13 story [no sex] but it in my opinion helps the story progress better since they're getting to know each other personally instead of just physically.
A Short fun romance, can be read in an afternoon at the beach. A story of forgiveness and second chances. The characters of Chase and Justine pulled me in from the beginning. A great summer read.
