An ungodly actRetired DI Sam Hyatt is called into action once more, pondering the disovery of a dead body in a shallow grave. Working with DI Jodie Walsh, he considers the evidence before assessing the crime scence, noticing something seemingly insignificant, believing it to be a defining mark.
The suspects are a trio of introverts, bonding over board games and strange rituals, their alibis doing little for their claims of innocence, yet DNA evidence remains elusive, leaving Hyatt and Walsh to make a connection between soil and scripture, leading them to a killer's confession
A more cerebral police procedural taking place in a small town in England. A complicated mystery with a number of peculiar residents all connected in unusual ways. Clues that point to a mastermind who wanted to leave a signature. Is this person or persons as clever as they think? Or will new DI Jodi Walsh and retired DI Sam Hyatt piece together the clues?
If you enjoy mysteries like Broadchurch that are as much as about the townspeople and the secrets they hide and the DIs facing who they are, as it is about the mystery being solved, this may be a good fit.
Retired detective Sam Hyatt and his younger replacement Jodie Walsh once again team up to solve a murder in the village of Fenburne. The suspects, three troubled young men with a variety of reasons for possible murder, spin a web of deceit, each trying to implicate others and throw off suspicion. The young woman victim from the next village had secrets of her own. Sam and Jodie work methodically through the evidence, each gradually starting to come to terms with their past demons as they try to find who murdered the young woman and why.
So much for being retired! Sam finds himself pulled into a case of a body found in a shallow grave. Working with DI Jodie Walsh, the pair must follow the evidence wherever it takes them and with twists and turns, they must determine which path to follow. I do love a good mystery and this one is thrilling and suspenseful and the author does a great job drawing you into the story and holding on tight till the end.
This was my first reading involving Sam Hyatt. Sam has retired but his replacement DC Jodie Walsh asks Sam for assistance in a murder case. Sam only gives advice wanted the new DC to find her own place in the police department. But being a female is not easy and Sam has to help to keep her on the right path so she will get the right experience and recognition. But will it be soon enough. Only time will tell.
D.I. Jodie Walsh is finally coming into her own. Still a bit reliant on Sam, she is making headway with her colleagues in a career very much male dominant. The residents of Fenburne seem to possess so many secrets but D.I. Walsh has a secret of her own that she is not yet ready to reveal to the world.
I received a free copy of The Restless Dead through BookFunnel, and have chosen to leave a review.
I do love this author and I loved this book. This was the second book in this series but could definitely be read as a stand alone. This book centers in a small town that has of late become a town of murder. Retired detective Sam Hyatt keeps getting drawn back into new cases because he has an ability to see things in a crime that others don’t. Does he see something this time? If you like a good crime mystery, this is a book for you!!
I liked this story! It is definitely a twisted case with several red herrings. I also liked that Jodie stood up for herself and forced others to view her with respect. I liked how Sam Hyatt’s mind worked…seeing things others didn’t. I understand the need to retire, but it is a good thing he is mentoring Jodie…passing on his abilities, as it were. I definitely recommend it!
Oddly titled, this is not a ghost story but a murder mystery. The body was laid out too neatly for the death to have been accidental. Was the woman murdered by a jealous boyfriend...or perhaps by a cult?
Some readers will enjoy the series connection formed by relationships among the police officers, too, and some will enjoy the English small town atmosphere.
DI Walsh overcomes everyone’s personal bias of her by keeping her head down and solving murders in her new town. Will she be successful and get her co-workers to set aside their first opinion of her and get to really know who she is? You’ll have to read this story to find out. Oh and to find out who the murderer really is. There are plenty of twists to keep you interested til the end.
A very riveting story that grips you from the first and doesn't let go. This story has intriguing characters whom grow throughout the story. There are plot twists and turns and surprises which keep you glued to the book. I really liked this book!
I enjoyed the book. The mystery kept me guessing and I didn't want to put it down. Sam and Jodi make a good team. I am looking forward to more stories with them.
Sam Hyatt comes out of retirement to help a young DI Jodie Walsh to help with a murder. A number of suspects, but not enough prove to arrest anyone. A story line that makes you want to keep reading.
