I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

A Quilted Christmas is the perfect craft book for anyone who loves a touch of handmade decor and would make a perfect gift to gift such a person, too.
The book consists of 16 ideas of quilting crafts all for the festive season. The items included would make a beautiful touch to make for the home or as personal gifts for loved ones, too.
The decorations range from tree decorations and table runners to quilts and pillows.
The instructions are clear and understandable for even beginners to use, and the author gives a great guide to appliqué and hand quilting too. The book has photographs all the way through to help visualise and understand each stage better, too. There are added QR codes to help support this visually, too, which was a great idea. The quantity of templates included at the back of the book were fantastic and will make a brilliant resource when using the book for years to come.

Do you love decorating for Christmas? Are you excited when you see items made of red, green, and white fabric?
Do you have some folks on your Christmas gift list that love hand made gifts? Then, this book might be for you.
If you have never appliquéd, pieced patchwork or hand quilted before, this book will help you learn to do those things. The instructions at the beginning of the book are clearcut and useful. If you already have experience with quilting, this is a good review before you begin your project.

The projects go from small (tree ornament), medium (table runners) to large (wallhangings or quilts).
One look at the ideas included in this book will have you dragging out your sewing machine, fabric, and thread in an attempt to whip something up before the holidays!

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and give an honest review of this book.

If you love quilting, Christmas, or anything that brings a bit of warmth and handmade charm into your home, then A Quilted Christmas is the kind of book that instantly puts you in that festive, creative headspace. From the moment I opened it, I found myself smiling and honestly, the introduction alone set the tone beautifully. Deb Grogan starts by anchoring the book in the time she was born, and it's such a lovely, nostalgic way to ease into her creative world. It feels personal, thoughtful, and genuinely welcoming.

The photography in this book is stunning. Bright, warm, crisp images that highlight every stitch, every embellishment, every colour choice, it's honestly one of the most visually appealing craft books I've picked up in a while. You can tell care went into styling the projects, so you can honestly imagine them in your own home during the holidays.

One thing I really appreciated is how Deb balances the basics with the more advanced techniques. Even as someone who's been patchworking for years, I still found myself nodding along at the clarity of the tips, especially things like setting your machine with the needle down or choosing the right stitch for applique. For beginners, these will be absolute gold. It's all laid out clearly, without drowning the book in too much explanation. And that's precisely where the QR codes become magic.

You know how sometimes books include QR codes and half of them go nowhere? Every QR code I tested worked quickly and smoothly. From fusible information to applique techniques, every link adds extra depth without cluttering the pages. My favourite was the QR code for the Snowman Joy wall hanging; it gives you the whole layout digitally, making it so easy to scale and prep.
This feature makes the book feel modern and incredibly user-friendly. You get the best of both worlds: a gorgeous physical book and access to extended tutorials whenever you need them.

The Projects Oh My Goodness, They're Adorable. There are 16 Christmas projects, and the range is so good that there's genuinely something for every skill level and every home.
My absolute favourites are the Winter Friends ornaments. They are SO cute little applique characters with buttons, funky fabrics, and just enough personality to make your tree feel handmade and joyful.

All the templates are included in the back, clearly marked for photocopying to scale, and everything is laid out in a way that makes it incredibly easy to follow along. One thing Deb Grogan does exceptionally well is layout. Nothing feels overwhelming, and everything feels achievable.

Each project is:
Cleanly broken down
Supported with step-by-step photos
Enhanced with tips and tricks
Organised so even beginners won't get lost

Honestly, I can't wait to go fabric shopping and dive into the cutest Christmas book that I have read in some time. It's bright, inviting, beautifully photographed, and thoughtfully written. The combination of precise instructions, beginner-friendly explanations, and QR-linked extras makes it perfect for anyone wanting to sew their way into the festive season, whether you're brand new to quilting or you've been at it for decades.

There are projects here that you can whip up in a weekend, and others that you can sink into over several weeks. Either way, the joy is in the making, and this book absolutely delivers that feeling.
Highly recommended for anyone wanting handmade Christmas magic in their home this year.

A huge thank you to Fox Chapel Publishing / Lauda Publishing and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this gorgeous festive release.

Book Review: A Quilted Christmas by Deb Grogan

Rating: 4 Stars

I picked up A Quilted Christmas by Deb Grogan with the kind of giddy anticipation usually reserved for the first cup of cocoa on a frosty morning—and the book didn’t disappoint. It’s a warm, inviting collection that feels like a cozy craft night with a friend who happens to be a seriously talented quilter. This is a four-star read for me: charming, very practical, and brimming with holiday spirit, though I’d have loved just a bit more variety in some technique explanations.

Grogan, who runs The Quilt Factory and designs the patterns sold there, clearly knows her stuff. The book offers 16 festive projects—everything from full quilts to table runners, wall hangings, pillows, placemats, and even soft ornaments—so you can sprinkle Christmas cheer throughout your home in whatever form suits your style. The projects are holiday-forward without being kitschy, and the variety makes it easy to pick something quick and satisfying or a showstopper that might become a family heirloom.

What I especially appreciated was how approachable the instructions are. Grogan walks you through the essentials of appliqué and patchwork with step-by-step clarity, and generous photography helps make each stage understandable. If you’re someone who learns by watching, the included QR codes are a real bonus—each links to video demonstrations that reinforce the written guidance. Templates are thoughtfully provided too: you’ll find on-page templates and downloadable options via QR codes, plus layout guides to help you visualize assembly and scale.

The book’s production values are friendly and useful. The cover caught my eye immediately—cheerful and evocative of cozy holiday afternoons—and inside is a steady flow of inspiring photos that make you want to start cutting fabric right away. Projects are presented in a way that suits quilters at different levels: beginners will find recipes for success, and more experienced sewers can adapt patterns or embellish them to suit their own flair.

If I had to nitpick, a few of the instructions could have been expanded for absolute beginners—some steps assume a smidge more prior knowledge than a complete novice might have. Also, while the projects are lovely and cohesive in their seasonal aesthetic, I would have enjoyed a handful more wildly different color or style options to show how to push the patterns beyond classic holiday palettes.

Overall, A Quilted Christmas is a delightful addition to any crafter’s bookshelf. It’s full of easy-to-follow projects, plenty of photos for inspiration, and practical digital extras that make the patterns easy to access and follow. If you love handmade holiday décor (or want to learn), this book will get you happily stitching through the season. Four stars for warmth, usefulness, and the urge to start a festive quilting project right now.

A Quilted Christmas is a nice tutorial collection with 16 projects included collected by Deb Grogan. Released 9th Sept 2025 by Fox Chapel, it's 80 pages and is available in paperback and ebook formats.

The projects cover a nice range of traditional, modern, whimsical, and cute. There are table runners, placemats, decor/door hangers, and hangings (See cover). The graphics a clear, high contrast, and in color throughout. There's a combination of photos and drawn graphics. Everything is easy to understand and in color.

Each project includes a finish photo, materials list with measurements in imperial (American) measurements and metric in parentheses (yay!), and step by step instructions. Process photos and drawings are clear and easy to follow. Templates are included for each project.

Four stars. There are some cute, relatively quick projects here which would be good for gifts and bazaars.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

An absolutely beautiful and informational quilting guide just in time for the holidays! The patterns are well laid out and easy to understand. The photographs are stunning and are a nice pop of color throughout! I have always wanted to try quilting but knew how daunting it could be so I never started a project. Although some of the patterns still make me nervous to try without an expert by my side, a few of the designs I would love to try out!

Excellent projects for this Christmas time, very beautiful and well done graphics. Had the opportunity to see it in the ebook format, but that's not the best one for this kind of work. I'll be buying the physical one!

I am disappointed that every applique project needs to be resized to use templates. Most to 110%. Why not just provide a template sheet with the size needed.
