When the world ended, Pax found he had an unusual gift. With the ability to turn the souls of monsters he defeats into constructs; Pax plans to ensure that the women he loved were safe from the newly reopened Hollow Earth. Volcanoes might turn the sky black, and monstrous insects were spreading across New York, but Pax won't let that stop him from keeping Jenny and her best friend safe.

The arrival of a strange System offered no clues to what they should do to grow their power, but every time Pax kills a monster, he can feel himself becoming more. He's taking Jenny and Tala with him to delve Rifts, kill beasts, and push themselves to the absolute limit.

Pax Callahan might not be strong enough to take down the kaiju crawling up from the depths of the world yet, but he'll tear his own soul apart if that's what it takes to beat them.

Began gaming at the age of 8 and explored a lot of different ways to play table top. When I got older, I experimented with MMOs and found a few I really liked. My first job was mowing lawns as a young teen, and I worked to use the money to pay for fantasy series like DragonLance, Dark Sun, and Forgotten Realms. As soon as I discovered LitRPG I knew I wanted to incorporate it into my writing.

Aside from taking care of my sons as a single father, writing is what I love to do most. I hope you all enjoy my work.

Even a harem book needs a story. This has an apocalypse story and a harem story, and the two do not fit together at all. Add in some truly terrible transitions, and this is a pain to read. Frost has done some good series. This is not one of them and feels cobbled together.

I liked this book quite a bit, even if some aspects of it weren't to my preferences.

The MC starts the book off having a girlfriend of 10 years, when the world is jolted by some strange phenomenon that changes everyone to be able to gain skills/classes as the world sees strange creatures emerge. Not knowing what is happening with the power and devices all out, the couple elect to find the girlfriend's best friend that lives about 8 miles away. Along the way, they have to find and kill a few beetles, and arrive just in time to rescue the friend from a lizardman creature. And thus, their adventures begin.

I am not a big fan of the MC starting with a lover for a harem book, because it deprives the reader of getting to enjoy that romance aspect. And the long term friend becomes the 2nd member of the harem. Since they've known her for years, this was fairly anticlimactic and involves no real effort on the MC's part. That was the only real negative I had with the book.

The intimate scenes were very well written, with plenty of spice to entertain. The plot featured a few staple tropes of the "world changes to have RPG elements", but it was done with enough flair to make it compelling instead of boring.

There's a third woman queued up for reasons she won't explain yet, and a fourth that will most likely eventually succumb to the MC's competence and charm. And I look forward to how that fourth will play out the most, because she has no set reason to get involved at this point.

Fun take on an apocalyptic harem

I enjoyed this book. It had a good pacing and good details of the world and the way the apocalypse happens. Plenty more to learn though. Still a lot for the characters to discover about the world and how they can survive longer. Looking forward to book 2!

I always love Deacons books. They feel so real and have amazing story lines. This new series is no exception, and I cannot for the next one, so hopefully, we will get it soon!

A great beginning!!

Definitely not your run of the mill apocalypse storyline!!! Fantasy characters, magic and the beginning of a hollow earth adventure are some great world building opportunities!!! Based on this authors past writings this series will be fantastic!!!

It took a long time to warm up, but I was enjoying it quite a bit by the end.
