China and the World

Rate this book
In 1949, the Chinese people emerged victorious after decades of struggle, defeating Western imperialism and a weakened empire to put power in the hands of the masses. The triumph of the Chinese Revolution was a turning point in history—but the true challenge was just beginning.
China and the World follows the history of China’s foreign policy as it forged a path of socialist construction. Professor Ken Hammond illuminates how China has moved through phases in an ever-changing political landscape: positioning itself through its relationships between the capitalist US and the socialist Soviet Union camps; exploring reform and opening within the global capitalist system; and taking a stronger position in global affairs as the largest economy in the world today. But as China offers an alternative to the exploitation of US imperialism, its position as a global power has also made it the target of a US-led new Cold War. Understanding China’s relationships to the world is essential to understanding what is next for the global stage.

The “Pivot to Asia” foreign policy prioritized under the Obama administration paved the way for the sustained demonization of China and the growing aggression toward the socialist project. This aggression will culminate in expansion of the war machine and a global conflict pushed by the U.S. government. The Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL) has outlined China’s Five Principles of Peaceful coexistence which is based on:
• mutual respect
• mutual benefit
• guaranteeing the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states
• non interference in the internal affairs of any country

These principles have provided the foundation for China’s relations with the world!

It is essential for us within the belly of the beast to recognize the propaganda and misinformation spread by the U.S. to legitimize war with China. This book highlights China’s foreign policy and its commitment to the building up of its people and those across the globe. Socialism is the antidote to the crises perpetrated by capitalism.

Concise and clear overview of China's foreign policy from 1949 onwards. Not often this happens but I found myself agreeing with nearly everything :-) Having recently read Zhou Enlai: A Life, a lot of the subject matter was quite familiar, but at 110 pages or so, this is a very useful introduction to the topic and deserves to be widely read.
