Judgments of Fire and Desire

Rate this book
Losing her father to the 9/11 terrorist attack at the tender age of three, has Genesis Farris longing for what she feels is missing. Being that her mother never remarried or even introduced another man into their lives, it made her that much more curious about what it was like to be loved by one. She’s always wanted to know and experience what was so special or significant about a man’s love, but she was far from the point of desperation. Just from the stories she’d heard about her father, she knew that he wanted what was best for her, so she refused to settle for less than that.

While on the job as one of the most decorated firefighters in her city, she comes face to face with who she believes will be the man to school her on all the things she is ignorant about. The situation is extremely dangerous, and she’s hoping the attraction isn’t simply a trauma bond. She doesn’t plan to waste time on something that won’t have the potential to be permanent. Judge Patrick isn’t a man that easily accepts rejection, but Genesis knows her worth and refuses to accept anything less, regardless of status and prestige.

Kyrie Patrick is an educated man who believes in pulling yourself up by the bootstraps to get the things you want and deserve. He’s the youngest judge in the state and the first black judge from his hometown to ever be elected to office. Those facts have Kyrie thinking more highly of himself than he should and that ruffles some people’s feathers. He constantly looks over his shoulder, because he doesn’t trust people. He’s gained plenty of enemies along the way for being a presiding judge for the criminal court of appeals and for not always seeing beyond black and white.

While he would love to have a woman to share his life and all of his successes with, he isn’t in a hurry. He didn’t have the greatest example of how a man should love a woman growing up, so he is learning on the fly. He believes the love of his life will eventually cross his path if fate has its way. That fateful day comes when he faces a matter of life and death. The angel of mercy pays him a visit in the form of a gorgeous firefighter that leads him to the light in more ways than one.

Although sparks fly between Genesis and Kyrie, they chalk it up to their emotions being high and their traumatic vulnerability due to the situation. Commonality brings them closer, causing them to reevaluate their chemistry. However, egos get in the way and jeopardize their chances of reaching the heights they’d hoped for, not to mention constant threats on Kyrie’s life. Will they be able to tread through the dangers faced and get beyond their own vices and insecurities to establish something special, or will they choose to cut their losses and focus their efforts on their individual safety, careers, and futures?

Starting with poetry, writing has always been a constant in Monica's life. The interest began in her teenage years, being in love for the first time. Her love for writing has only progressed. Song lyrics and poetry led to short stories, then one day in her down time, a short story became a 56k word novel. It has been non-stop since then. Being a wife and mother, has only added to the joys of Monica's life. Attaining a BS in Sociology, helping her better understand people and their behaviors, has only helped her become a better writer, understanding characters and their complex personalities. Romance of all types has been her passion, and she plans to continue honing her skills in that genre.

Miss Monica! Come get yo flowers ma’am! I love the romantic suspense genre, and you did it so much justice. The way you had my heart pumping, flipping those kindle pages hard as hell, trying to figure out who was involved with this intricate plot with the city.

Kyrie and Genesis had an immediate connection, even with the unfortunate way they met. When they learned they shared a trauma bond as well, it helped to secure the feelings that were already growing between them. Kyrie allowed himself to become vulnerable and drop some of the ego that was ruling his life, when Genesis came along. Genesis had to calm down and let her hero complex die a bit when it came to Kyrie. He was a man and would not allow her to protect him, when that was his job to protect her. These two were just everything!! Their love as pure, intentional, and beautiful. When the ish started to hit the fan, poor Kyrie couldn’t catch a damn break! They were really coming for him hard from all angles. Whew…… 😤

I never would have guessed all those players were involved, cause damn! I wanted to like Grandma Jean, but something about all this is really shady when it comes to her. Let me find out! 👀 My disappointment in Genesis’ family with the way they blamed and treated her was on ten! 🤬 I can’t say enough about how much I enjoyed this one. Bravo!! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾 Keep these coming!

Definitely a 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Kyrie and Genesis

My very 1st introduction to a romantic mystery and this book did not let me down at all!!!…
I still think grandma played a bigger part in more than filling their bellies with good food!!!…
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and although I suspected the detective, I was leaning more on her thinking she was going to the heroine in the story!!!…
This book took a few turns and then threw me for another loop!!!…
I love how open and willing Kyrie and Genesis were to explore things with all the mishaps in Kyrie’s life!!!…I was so happy they stood together and came out on top, even with the short break!!!…
That 911 introduction of Kyrie had my blood boiling!!!…I was truly shocked he actually came to the podium and spk so politely because I would have popped that dude!!!…
I was bothered that Genesis’ family thought she should hide or defend Samuel’s bad behavior!!!…

Beautiful job Mrs Monica, you showed there is not a book you can’t pull off with your pen skill!!!…

GOOD READ

This was a good read. I loved the twists, turns, and suspense. These high-ranking officials were so corrupt that the intensity of who could be trusted kept my anxiety level on ten. And just when you think you have it all figured out, the shock of finding out the mastermind has everyone in disbelief. Kylie and Genesis went through a lot, but thank god they were able to get their happy ending.

The Firefighter and the Judge! The death of the mayor after being convicted and sentenced for fraud and embezzlement of city funds. She took the fall for everyone. Who were the others involved? Who is trying to kill the judge and why?
This was absolutely the best mystery suspense romance story that I've read by Author Monica Walters. I just could not get enough of Kyrie and Genesis. They were so pure, open, in sync, and perfect for each other. God put them together for a reason. There were no games played, and they recognized their attraction and feelings early in the story. 🔥The pure emotions and passion they shared from the beginning of this story through the end were so authentic.

Kyrie and Genesis had more in common than they realized. Both their fathers were killed on 911 in New York on that fateful day.

All the twists, turns, deceit, backdoor deals, 💰 stealing, and lies by omission this story took, I couldn't seem to wrap my brain around who to trust or not trust. I never saw two of the characters mixed up in this mess of attempted murder as conspiracers. To say that I was shocked would not be an adequate word choice.

I loved being kept in suspense until the very end. And boy, did it end with a blast!

Ok… so although I'm a Monica Walters stan I will admit it took me forever to read this book. I'm not big on suspense and just from the cover I knew it was giving “Who done it?” however after finishing this book I'm tired, emotionally drained, and as happy as can be 😆 yep she has my emotions all over the place.

I was so into this book I forgot all about quotes! Once I got into this story Kyrie and Genesis had me in a chokehold. This storyline was everything and although some things were expected there were a few things I did not see coming. This couple went through it and Kyrie had me wanting to snatch him up often for how he handled my girl Genesis. Genesis had such a sweet and kind spirit. She was accepting of a lot and tried to give grace when needed however my good sis couldn't catch a break. She fell in love with a man… that's it… that's all but danger kept coming from all sides😩

The ending of this book had me shook! I saw some key players as being snakes but some took me a minute to wrap my head around. Wheeeeew that ending definitely had me on the edge of my seat! I would love a little update on this couple as well as some of the secondary characters (only because I'm greedy) however some won't be missed😒 Monica Walters never leads me astray and after being a fan for soooo long I should know this by now🤦🏾‍♀️

Awesome read!

Man! This story had a lot of twists and turns. Some things I suspected were accurate and others, I didn't catch until later on. Genesis and Kyrie fell for each other fast. Their love story was beautiful, but they were surrounded by chaos. Kyrie had constant threats to his life and when egos got in the way, it jeopardized their chances of the future they'd hoped for. Genuine love changes a person. Genesis was good for Kyrie, showing him how to be soft with a woman and impacting his decision making while in the court room. Kyrie brought back Genesis' softer and nurturing side, which made it natural for her to cater to him and provide emotional support when he needed it. Both of them were tested heavily with the dangers they faced, family and insecurities, to name a few. Please read their story to see how they were able to navigated it all. You won't be disappointed!

Beautiful Fire and Desire

I really enjoyed this story from start to finish, the mystery kf it all, not knowing who was corrupt and who was on the up&up, but baby I was here for it all! Its nothing better than reading a story that will have you on the edge of your seat or your mind thinking in over drive! Genesis and Kyrie were a beautiful couple, even when they had to go through their trials and tribulations! Family is just that family, it doesn't mean when your family has a corrupt way of thinking or being a non productive citizen, you have to be responsible tor their actions, but when it begins to interfere with your way of thinking, then seeming help isn't a bad thing, nor listening to those much wiser than you! Again, A great read and you won't be disappointed!

it was ok. it started off interesting with the 9/11 angle but quickly got boring. nothing made sense to me why stuff happened, why they wanted the judge dead, why the mayor had to die? why? why? why? Kyrie Patrick is a judge who's father died on 9/11. Genesis is a female firefighter who's father also died on 9/11. Genesis has 1 brother, Samuel who's a police officer. Samuel mixed up in this shit but I still don't know why. what did grandma have to do with it? why did the police office use her as an escape house if people are trying to kill the judge and they know the judge is dating her granddaughter and she lives only 2 minutes from her daughter? it was way too convenient. not the best story.

I was wondering about this book at first because of the name but glad I decided to give it a chance as I was WELL INVESTED from the beginning. I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook. This story kept me wondering hard trying to find out all the players involved as well as the things as they were happening to Judge Patrick. Saddened by the foul activity of Genesis’s brother (BUT karma is a B****) and the way her Mother & Grandmother treated her once the confession from Baby Brother was shared. I love how Kyrie & Genesis were there for each other (once they were able to get through their little break). Love, Love, Loved the narration by both Midnite Michael & Ebony Ford. A definite share and a re-listen for 2026. 10 / 10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️💖💖💖Great job Ms. Walters💖

This is different but let me tell this...... you killed it I started and could not stop till I was finished. Kyrie and Genesis chemistry was there the moment eyes met, but to find out what was going with him was because of his dad. Now these nuts that was ruining the city I was blown away and to find out Genesis brother was part of it I was like damn and Stephanie and AJ I didn't see that coming. I was a little suspect about Grandma Jean too🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️ Great book and definitely getting Tyson's book

Fiyahhhhh!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Listen!!! This read is fiyahhh!! Excellent writing! The storyline had me from start to end. The suspense had me clutching my invisible pearls at the reveal. You got me good, Mo!!! I never saw that coming. The steamy intimate moments were just right. Touched on some relatable topics like grief and forgiveness. The minds of some people are so corrupted. They are "wolves in sheep's clothing." Family members are not excluded...smh. Keep your circle small to keep the trust tight. Get your read on! You won't be disappointed!

Fire, Desire, and Deceit

Whew! What a ride! I definitely enjoyed this book . Kyrie and Genesis were something else . I loved the relationship between the two and the drama surrounding Kyrie! Him being thrust into a situation caused by criminal city officials. Kyrie is trying to solidify his relationship with Genesis while trying to stay alive. Many twist and turns that also drive a wedge between the lovers. I absolutely had a great time reading this. And I still don’t trust Grandma Jean.

Through the fire

This was a good one. A slow burn with a mix of mystery. Kylie and Genesis were each other’s anchor from the very beginning. I loved how they were selfless in their love for one another. Their shared trauma and grief was palpable. The twists and turns this story took were wild, and while I was shocked by some revelations others seemed fitting. Kudos Mrs. Walters, you’ve done it again!

Great read! 💖

Whew talking about on the edge of my seat!
Man, I was ready for a few folks to see me and then I was ready to pass out some hugs. Definitely a suspense as I kept changing who I thought were the guilty parties.
Judge Kyrie Patrick surely turned into a marshmallow when it came to his true feelings for Genesis.
That's the power of love as you never know when your "one" may pop up.
Well done, Author Monica Walters! 👏🏾❤️‍🔥

Absolutely Amazing Read

Kyrie went through a lot dealing with the criminals of Beaumont. Once he met Genesis, they fell hard and fast. Kyrie tried backing away briefly, but he was too far gone. The love he and Genesis shared was too strong to let go of. The city officials in Beaumont made it hard to trust anyone that worked within after the findings in the Mayor's trial. Kyrie and Genesis survived it all and allowed their love to over come all. Awesome read!

Great read

From the first paragraph I was intrigued. The storyline, characters, and mystery were exceptional. The twists and turns for each of the characters left you on the edge of your seat. Monica, from your forward you stated this was your original writing style and my humble opinion is do more of it. Romance, mystery, and intrigue are well worth the read. Looking forward to more of these from you.

Judgement of Fire and Desire

Genesis and Kyrie’s love story was sweet, and filled with drama that wasn’t even theirs to deal with. Being a Judge made Kyrie a target and untrustworthy of people but when Genesis saves him in a fire, all inhibitions around trust was gone. Genesis learned to love Kyrie while dealing with drama from work and feeling unappreciated by her family at times. They loved each other till the end.

Different and still good

Oh, this was different. A suspense with romance and I loved it. Some of the twists I saw and some I truly didn’t. You had me going in a good way. Kyrie and Genesis were truly what each other needed. Bonded by 9/11 and other events. I never expected Beaumont to have all this drama going on. Well done Mrs Walter’s!

Thank you Monica for a wonderful book. You really outdid yourself with this story. I’m so used to the characters fighting to stay in love but not this way. My heart was hurting all throughout the story for the both of them. I was really trying to guess all who were involved in the corruption but lost count of them all😀
Thanks again for this great read🥰

So many plot twist, from the moment the brother met Kyrie I figured something was up with him and the dude from the memorial, how he did hid Intro for him. Then that dang Detective , she was to desperate to be on his case.. Glad Kyrie and Gen got their happily ever after

🔥🔥🔥🔥

This was a really good story. I love the relationship between Genesis and Kyrie. At first, I didn’t like Kyrie’s attitude but he redeemed himself. I hate that Samuel had to die. The Grandmother knows she was wrong ain’t no coming back from that. I wasn’t expecting that twist at the end. I’m ready for whatever you have coming next, Monica!🥰
