The Path We Share

Rate this book
Two women, two generations, one heartbreaking secret - and a love that defied hatred in a world torn apart by hate.

When young journalist Eva meets hundred-year-old Margarethe Selig, she expects a routine story. Instead, she uncovers a tale of forbidden love in 1930s Germany that will change her life forever. As Margarethe reveals her memories of 1938 Heidelberg, a story of passion, betrayal, and lifelong guilt unfolds.

In a time of growing persecution and danger, impossible choices must be made and devastating secrets kept. Now, in present-day Germany, Eva finds herself drawn into a web of past and present as she investigates Margarethe's story. When she meets the mysterious Ben, who shares his own connection to the past, their growing attraction only complicates her search for the truth.

Can Eva help Margarethe find peace before it's too late? And can she find the courage to follow her own heart, even when it leads her down an unexpected path?

A powerful story about love transcending time, faith, and hatred, The Path We Share reminds us that some hearts never stop following their destiny.

I'm always hesitant to read a book that has been translated because of unfortunate past experiences but there were absolutely no issues with this one. The story is told in a dual timeline and I usually have a preference but both were equally fascinating. This is not about flashy German resistance fighters or spying on the Third Reich but is instead of an average German family who did what they could for their German-Jewish friends. The story begins in the 1920s and the reader can feel Hitler's poison spreading throughout the German population. With fascism once again on the rise, this book is timely. After all, this isn't ancient history...my father was a WW II veteran. This book grabbed my attention on the first page and held it to the final page. I highly recommend it.

This was a good book. I enjoyed the dual timeline historical fiction. However, I needed a little suspense on the romance side of things. I understand that it was supposed to be “love at first sight”, but the character 5 pages after meeting the other stating they loved them was a little far fetched for me

Heartfelt

Really good story. I enjoyed both timeframes. Very heartfelt and you get attached to the characters. Great and Eva have very similar feelings concerning their love interests. Interesting to go to these different parts of the world with the characters.

A Long Time Coming

This is one of the most beautiful stories I’ve ever read. Though very sad, it is a story of love for your fellow man. It shows that love conquers all.

Wasn’t my favorite WWII romance novel. Basically portrays how jealousy can be rooted in the heart and how it can affect actions that could be life changing.
