Before me stands monsters, Chaos Gods, Undead Wizards, dragons, and a love worth fighting for.The monsters brought by the integration are under control, but the System will not grant us peace. Before us stand four hostile factions, and some of them are already plotting against me and my people. Worse, they draw on the power of the Chaos Gods to do I know not what.
But I am not alone. My allies on Themyscira have been of great help to me already, and I have my eye on one in particular. Cyra and I have grown close, and I hope to grow closer still. But she has duties to her family she's unwilling to burden me with.
I can't let her get away from me that easily. Whatever foes lie between me and her better watch out.
I'm still thoroughly engrossed with this seris. The best way to describe it is "fun". I know what to expect now, and each book delivers. There's not much more for me to add that I haven't already said about the earlier volumes, but I am excited by the epilogue to this one which seems to be hinting at a wider universe. Onto the next!
I've enjoyed this series to an extent, but I felt this book was pretty underwhelming. It's devolved entire to the MC doing just about everything on his own, while his harem twiddles their thumbs. Which doesn't make for a very satisfying harem story.
In this book, the MC cleans up the last major annoyances on the shard, though it takes a lot of hard work. Upon winning that epic and drawn out battle, he's given a choice to accept things as they are or accept serious challenges. Of course, he takes the challenges, and after the first 2, it's almost all solo stuff that eats up hundreds of boring pages of the MC being unstoppable. He's OP to the point that his fights aren't all that interesting. And, upon completing all these fairly easy challenges, he gets even more OP.
Then, he's off to claim is apparent Amazon bride that is the sister of his current Amazon wife. But things have happened that force her to turn him away in the name of duty. So, we get a long slog of the MC creating power armor, dueling in the arena in comically easy battles, and eventually the winning of the Amazon sister.
I'm not a big fan of the MC being a solo act most of the time. The existing harem was pushed to the side for great swaths of this book. Bridget barely had any screen time, and even his former boss turned Oni was more of an administrator than a participant. As such, this book really didn't sit that well with me. I will probably try book 5, but if it underwhelms like this one did, I'll drop the series.
This series just gets better and better with each book! The twists for that one were great! Love the shadows of the next book that we see on the horizon. Can’t wait for it!!
I am a fan of the authors work. I do enjoy his storytelling. I have absolutely no idea how many books you can tends to do in this series but I'm hoping that it's good and long like spell heart. As of the time of this review he's already started book 5 which is up on his patreon. He says that he's shooting for a May release for the sequel. Book three is also out now in audiobook format. If you can't tell by now, I do recommend this series to anybody reading this review. At the end of book 3 I suspected that the two romantic interests that have been added would have become official in book 4. That however was not the case and there was an added challenge added in to book for for our hero to solve. To say that the story did not unfold as I had expected would be an understatement, but I'm happy to say that I was pleasantly surprised. Now I know that the author described some of the gear that our character was using in this book but I couldn't stop my mind from heading into the direction of Starcraft and Warhammer. We do have an arena tournament that unfolds. We've got some Cloak and Dagger stuff happening partially in the background. And something that I haven't really seen before. There is a book called system universe or Universe system where the character is dealing with multiple systems after the Apocalypse, but they're all sort of the same. And this book it looks like we're dealing with the standard system, Plus cultivation, plus some sort of heretic group that makes me think of defiance fall. I'll reiterate that I enjoyed it and recommend it. Lastly, I'll simply say that I think everybody who had a hand in bringing the story to us, the Amazon readers, deserves a round of applause.
Carter Smith continues to grow into his powers as does his harem. There are two parts to this book, there is the Shard of which he is king of. Fortunately for him he has set up a very good City council that runs most of the day by day things. This allows him to come and go as he pleases. He also has his artificer business running making money for him in this world and in the Amazon home world. We are also introduced to Glacia world where most of the Samhiem (Amazon) family line is. This is where Kyrina went to, leaving her daughter Cyra in charge. On the world of Glacia you have the pocket world of the Dragon Lodge university. We are introduced to all of this. Back on the earth shard the new iteration brought four other shards: one is old San Antonio and it is full of Necromancers and Zombies. Another shard has serpent warriors living in the swamp, One is New Mexico though it has a volcano with a dragon and all of is underlings, lastly there is the golem shard that has these large rock golems building a wall but no people. Carter spends much time going back and forth. This book emphasis is about Carter and Cyra, though during the tournament Myrina played a larger roll. Sakura and Bridget took a back seat. Sakura would run Carter's Artificer business selling his enchanted items. Bridget took a job at the local bakery. It seemed that sometimes the other three wives are somewhat forgotten. I remember in one battle, it was suddenly remembered that Sakura, Bridget, Myrina were there fighting as well. The cover has the picture of the mage sent to help Carter out and look into the Chaos Gods involvements. I thought that there might be some romance between them. She spends most of the book forgotten.
This was a lot of fun. The author seems to be hitting his stride and a lot of the typos are drying up. I was actually a little disappointed that the next book isn't out yet. I've got a lot of April releases on my calendar now.
---------------Some mad ranting in medias thoughts (with small spoilers) below:
32% Mostly fun so far. Cyra is best girl. There's a few typos. But importantly, Carter swings from a magical prodigy and expert strategist to an absolute dumbass dorklord when it comes to social interaction. It's the worst. I get giving your characters weaknesses but do they have to be so cringey? Also there's a handful of continuity errors here and there.
35% Carter invents game-breaking magitech armor and in a stunning fit of astonishingly bad judgement just decides to sell it on the open market. Also the prototype is 100% the Ironman mk 1 armor from the Marvel movies.
by 58% my guy is wrist deep in his rebound arc. There's lots of epic and legendary type scenes happening and it's delightful.
72% (ish) main dude does a surprised pikachu face that selling his game-breaking cheat armor is getting the wrong sort of attention. We seem to have thrown out any kind of interplanetary time limits. Relativity warping space aside, the gang seems content to settle in and run a shop in the magic space kingdom/college town for a while. He's still being a giant dorklord and making his personal Ironman suit bigger than it should reasonably be and calling it "doomblade".
Quite engaging, stayed up til 6:30 am reading this one
The MC continues to level between earth and 2 other worlds. He fights nagas, undead, necromancers, minions of Chaos gods and dragons. He also develops powered armor while pining for Cyra.
The storyline was extremely engaging, with just the right amount of daily life, magic theory and crafting to keep things interesting and developing the universe. The battles were realistic and the merchantile pursuits made business sense. They showed the difference between an amateur's thinking of a selling floor vs a professional's marketing strategies. Then unscrupulous merchants tried to interfere until Amazon legal tactics were employed to great effect. I also appreciated the humor in amongst the battles, crafting and intrigue. Finally the plot lines expanded to a conflict between the system, cultivators and the andecedents' decendents.
I really enjoyed this book and look forward to April when the next installment comes out.
This book is hard to review because it had no low points but a few things that felt out of place. The power armour stuff was honestly lame and I hope we don’t see more of it. And I’m honestly hoping earths integration gets wrapped up and Carter and the other shard kings begin rebuilding earth as it was. Cuz this book felt like earths apocalypse and integration was an afterthought which is odd given the name of the series. The cover makes no sense considering the book focuses on cyra. Aside from that the expansion of carters abilities giving way to future progression and universe expansion, along with the ending giving questions as to the origins and purpose of the system, and where our heroes will end up in the grand scheme of things. Overall great book with a few minor issues. Next book I hope for less crafting honestly though as it gets monotonous
Very long book, but it did not feel like it, we had several good story arks that were amazing. I'm really happy with all of his new powers and abilities as well. Look forward to the next book! . . . Spoilers! . . . . . . I'm a little disappointed we did not get into B grade at the end, especially with all the crazy power leveling stuff at the end. But I'm sure we'll get it right away in the next one. Also I felt like the tournament went on a little long for my tastes, mostly because I just wanted to get to the final fight with Cyra, I ended up skimming some of it and that's a shame because is was still good but it's hard when you dangle that fruit for like half the book lol
Bloody amazing work! This is just too damned good and now we’ve gotta wait for the next book. That’s the only killer here ahah.
Honestly barely anything sticks out as anything to nit pick on. There was a couple small grammar mistakes but I mean what book doesn’t.
Absolutely loved the length of the book too, I can absolutely imagine what a pain it was to write but I can also see how it really needed to be one book. I don’t imagine we’ll get nice long ones like that very often if ever but I friggen loved it.
Absolutely chafing now at the wait for the next book but it’ll be worth it.
Despite my feelings that a few of the women have a bit less depth than I feel they should by this time, a solid and entertaining book. Harems become unwieldy over 5, as far as I can determine, and this series is headed there; something for the author to juggle, for sure.
Lots of glimpses of the wider universe in the epilogues, so it looks like a significant expansion of scope awaits us in book 5.
An absolute must read series for those that love a good fantasy apocalypse storyline!!!
This series has a lot of everything any reader of fantasy, soft science fiction or apocalypse stories should enjoy!!! The world build and character development has been fantastic and the ever expanding storyline has been a joy to read!!! I only wish the books came out a bit quicker but they are worth the wait regardless!!!
It's the same old thing, which is great. Carter is a trickster and an artificer. And he does what he does best, which is create, and it seems to gather Pretty Woman. That's good. This book had a lot of crafting in it, not detailed, but went back to its roots. I am so looking forward to the next book. However, I must wait. Patience is a virtue, after all.
This book has it all! Bad guys; evil gods, liches, demons, dragons wizards and more! Yet the hero not only defeats them all but still has time to save and upgrade his shard of earth, craft new weapons, armour and accessories and pamper and expand his harem! What fun. Can't wait for more of this series!
Long has it been since I've read a wholesome harem style book that works. Especially so with the added genre of LitRPG. I can't wait for the 5th book, and I hope he adds reluna to his growing Family. I honestly wish there were 5 or 6 more books to read because this has been a very worthy series to experience so far.
Personally, I think this series is very cool and I like how big the universe is getting. Of course, you could also argue that the story is trying to do too much, and we are getting pretty far away from the actual apocalypse for most of the book length. It's fun regardless and I am excited to see book 5.
I wasn't a fan of the whole Iron Man subplot, and unfortunately it's not going away, but it doesn't detract too much from my enjoyment of the rest of the story. Carter is falling behind in his harem growth though, no doubt due to the extreme jealousy and possessiveness of Sakura, the worst of his harem, hopefully she lightens up so he can grow it at greater speed.
Another solid hit by Marvin, I couldn’t keep away for this for longer than an hour and had to read it in two sittings after some sleep of course. Im loving carters growth and can’t wait to see what happens next
I enjoyed this fourth entry in the series. We get to see Carter continue his journey through C-Grade and handling the Shard integration. Despite some interference from Chaos God agents. We learn some more about the Dragon Lodge and the wider multiverse.
It’s really a pleasure to follow Carter’s adventures, cool magic, epic action, funny shennanigans and banter. If you enjoyed the 3 previous books you won’t be didsapointed. Impatiently waiting for book 5
This book is another improvement on its predecessor. As the world gets bigger, things keep getting more interesting. World building, characters, action, and plot are all very good. Romance is slightly better, but remains more of a background element.
Nothing groundbreaking happens but still a good entry. Carter does some stupid stuff by holding back information that would have solved so much if he just told people. Besides that this is more of the same.
Awesome continuation, tons of fun spells, progression, and Carter's adoravle relationship with the matriarch. Very glad I can read this series as I am enjoying it
This inter book can be explained into single sentences. Super long montage sequences to power level the protagonist in way that doesn’t scream short cutting.
Really excited to read more and look forward to seeing what happens to Carter! Really became invested in the story and can't wait for five to come out!
