My Journey to Somewhere

Rate this book
My Journey to Somewhere chronicles the author’s journey to stepping into their dream of becoming a published writer. She started writing a novel and this book presented itself as a parallel story. Setbacks, depression, anxiety, and fear, and how each affects everyday life. It took a trip back to the beginning for her to piece together an understanding of why she does some of the things she does. Conway hopes that her story will open up the conversation about mental illness and show people living with mental illness that they are not alone. She also seeks to impart to those who love someone with mental illness some understanding or awareness.

Kim invites readers to join her on her journey and struggles with mental illness, fear, anxiety and depression. While courageously sharing her difficult experiences, Kim infuses humor and her generous spirit throughout the book, so the reader truly feels like they are becoming a part of her world. Kim's vulnerability opens the doors for others to know that it's ok to struggle, that there is hope, and that despite the challenges we may face, we can come out stronger and better because of it. This book not only provides support and reassurance for those who face similar life situations, it provides perspective and evokes empathy in readers to think about those around them and the hidden struggles we all may be facing. Anyone who reads this book will be able to make a personal connection, relating to their own lives or that of someone they care for, and will be better off because of it. This book is a must read for any one who wants to better understand themselves and others, and will do wonders to help work towards removing the stigma of mental health and open up much needed communication to support those around us.

Reading My Journey to Somewhere felt like listening to a close friend share their heart—raw, honest, and deeply human. Kimberly Anne Conway doesn’t just tell her story—she lays it bare. Through setbacks, depression, anxiety, and fear, she explores how mental illness shows up in everyday life and quietly shapes the way we move through the world.

What really stayed with me was her willingness to go back to the beginning—not to relive the pain, but to understand it. That part hit hard. Her reflections are full of quiet strength, and the way she writes about heaviness, silence, and hope makes you feel every word. This book wasn’t her original plan—it showed up alongside her novel—but it became something powerful in its own right.

Kimberly opens up a much-needed conversation about mental illness, offering comfort to those who live with it and insight to those who love someone who does. If you’ve ever felt alone, overwhelmed, or unsure of how to explain what’s going on inside, this book is a gentle reminder that you’re not broken—and you’re definitely not alone.

My Journey to Somewhere” is a raw, honest, and deeply personal account of one woman’s path through mental illness, self-discovery, and healing. Conway’s willingness to be vulnerable about her struggles with depression, anxiety, and fear is both courageous and impactful. What makes this book so powerful is how she manages to weave her journey as a writer with her emotional and psychological battles, allowing readers to see the strength it takes to pursue a dream while carrying invisible burdens.
This is more than a memoir it’s a conversation starter, a hand extended to others who may be going through similar struggles. Conway’s voice is authentic and relatable, and her story will resonate with anyone who has faced inner battles or loved someone who has. It’s a reminder that healing isn’t linear and that sometimes, going back to the beginning is the only way forward.

Highly recommended for readers who appreciate real-life stories of resilience, reflection, and hope.

I was lucky enough to have won this book during a Goodreads giveaway. I had the intention of passing this on to someone who had been struggling with life. I gave it a read later.

I truly appreciate Kim’s story. It was brave to put all these thoughts and feelings into a piece l, then share it with the world.

While I have not personally gone through the same hardships, I can appreciate and understand her viewpoints and feelings.

This book is written for Kim and a resource for those seeking reassurance, understanding, and the feeling of not being alone.
