In order to evade a killer, she'll have to rely on a stranger...

Actress Vicki Lane has hit 40 with two divorces and hardly any roles, and Hollywood has decided she's over the hill. Dumping Hollywood for good, she's gone back to her roots in upstate New York, where she plans to live as anonymously as she can.

But there are bats in the attic, the locals are excited to have a celebrity in the neighborhood, and her old life won't leave her alone. And then she discovers that someone seems to be following her...

Will Christiansen is recovering from his injuries after surviving a plane crash in his employer's private jet. He's been lying low in Towey, New York, thinking too much about the inside secrets he learned on that fatal trip, and convincing himself that his employer is probably—probably—not trying to kill him.

When Will and Vicki meet, their shared paranoia brings them together, as does a reluctant but powerful mutual attraction. When Vicki's unknown pursuer plays a deadly game—and a possible assassin with designs on Will arrives in town—Vicki and Will must team up if they both want to survive.

Really 3.5 stars, rounding up for debut

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This romantic suspense book has a slightly different twist from the usual format: both the heroine and the hero have people after them, but as far as this book goes, these enemy stalkers are not related in any way. The hero was the lone survivor of a private airplane crash, and he was not intended to live. The heroine has just moved to the town where hero has been living in upstate New York. She is a forty-ish actress who no longer is called for young-star roles, has been divorced twice and wants to find a simpler life. Someone is suddenly trying to kill her, and he emails her to taunt her.

Hero and heroine meet when each is suspicious of the other, and attraction is there, but both are wary.

I liked both characters and the secondary characters, as well.

What bothered me is that, when I entered this giveaway from the author on a goodreads group site, there was no mention that this is a trilogy or a continued story, so I was left hanging at the end of the book. I don't mind reading series where characters might reappear, but I probably would not have requested to read the first in a trilogy where I would be expected to buy two more books to get to the bottom of the suspense part of the first story.

Having said this, if you are willing to read three books for closure, I think this first book has a lot of potential. In fact, I wouldn't mind reading parts 2 and 3; I just wished I'd known about this before I offered to read part 1.

I had mixed feelings for this book and the end really leaves the reader hanging so I really hated that because I am now forced to read the rest of the series if I want any closure for the story and for me there is no satisfaction in that because anything can happen and one may never get a chance to read the rest of the series so not knowing who or why in the first book to me is a marketing ploy not great writing and that is why I gave it the lower stars. I want the story finished and then other books taken off in the series not being left open like a TV cliff hanger. There were also a few editorial errors that took away from the book. On the same page the first husband was referred to by two different names. That to me is just sloppy ediiting and there is no excuse for that.
Now if I was told who hired the hit man and who was after Ms Lane I would say this book was excellent. But because to me it is not finished all I can say is this author has potential if she does not get wrapped up in the idea of having all her books fit together in order to sell more. For some authors that may work but for someone new who a person is going to grab the book on a whim it won't work as well and for me it was a total let down that I wasted all that time reading this book and I may never know who did it because I have MS and frankly I may not remember to get the next book because there was not a name nor a teaser in the back.

The small town of Towey, New York has become a hotbed of suspense.

Actress Vicki Lane has left everything behind. She sold her house in Hollywood, and moved out of her apartment in New York. She has bought an old fixer-upper in upstate New York and is beginning a new life for herself.

Former head of security of Quadrant, Will Christiansen is recovering from injuries he suffered eighteen months earlier in a plane crash. What secrets does he have of the crash? What does his employer want from him? What will they do to silence him? Will has now learned that his employer has sent someone to silence him.

Vicki has just learned from her manager that someone has broken into her apartment. Who is this person? What are they looking for? Now she has been sent a e-mail message that reads:
I FOUND YOU, SWEETHEART!

Who is after Vicki? Who is after Will? What do they want? Now they have to rely on each other and find out before someone is killed.

I took me a couple of chapters to get into the book, but after that I was hooked. Can’t wait until the next books come out.

Really good thriller

Vicki Lane is a washed up actress escaping her year-end life to start fresh in a small town in New York. Things don't quite work out for her and she looks to make some friends in town to help with her new house. Will is a security guard on medical leave after being the lone survivor in a plane crash.
After Vicki begins to notice someone is watching her and other happenings that raise concern, Will elects to help find out who the person is. In the process, he discovers that Vicki isn't the only one being followed.
Really good plot with great characters. A hint of romance, action, and suspense and a cliffhanger of an ending. You're gonna have to invest in the other books to know how this one ends.
