"It s a colorful world, it s a beautiful world that we live in.... We have millions of children with possibilities." Grammy winning singer/songwriter CeCe Winans lyrics are beautifully illustrated by children s book illustrator Melodee Strong. This gorgeous book celebrates differences and urges all children to be proud of themselves. Book also includes music CD.
I found this book in my school library and shared it virtually with my students. The illustrations are vibrant and powerful and the lyrics to the song ring true for so many of my students. We are all different and that is to be celebrated. I love books from songs very much and it seems all ages of students find them just as engaging as I do.
"Celebrate our differences" is a beautiful message. More than that for me in this book, however, the beauty is in the ART. I love love love seeing all kinds of humans with a range of visible attributes (who even knows what's on the inside ?!). You can see kids with different physical characteristics / DisAbilities / health / skin tones/ and even style choices :). The images win for me and they don't feel so forced or kitschy like some other books. The words take a back seat in this book for me.
"Colorful World" is a beautiful song and the illustrator (Melodee Strong) did an amazing job bringing the lyrics to life in this book. Her work is very vibrant and multicultural. The story is quite uplifting and positive. Our daughter was really interested as we read it. It's nice to see a book like this out there that reinforces that the world is colorful vs. just white, or black -- and that it matters what's on the inside of us. It's a great addition to any library (as is the song!).
This book shows children that the world is not made up of all people who are the same but we are all different in our own way. The illustrations in this book were wonderful and the author got his point across that it does not matter what is on the outside, it matters what is on the inside! Also I loved how the author included a cd with the lyrics included on the last page called Colorful World by Keith Thomas and Alvin Love III.
This books shows that all children are different and unique in their own way. The author explains that it's better to not all be the same and recognizes that children should be proud to be themselves. To respond with positive reactions to negative situations. The pictures are very bold, colorful and beautiful. This book is for kids k-4th grade.
Audience- Primary Genre: Realistic fiction, Picture book Book share script: Can you imagine how boring it would be if we were all the same? This book discuses differences in the way people look. If you have ever felt like you didn't fit it, you will love the message this book sends. After reading this book, you will see how important it is to celebrate all the difference in our world.
Absolutely love this book. Love the poetic flow of the words as well as the beautiful illustrations. Emphasizing that we need to celebrate differences. "It's a colorful world that we live in. It's a beautiful world that we live in."
Nice illustrations but it looked like the lyrics are to adult for a child to get the feeling for what the message is in this book. Lyrics and illustrations teach children to celebrate their own unique talents and abilities
I read the book, and thought maybe I'm just not getting a feeling for the song. But then I listened to it and realized that it didn't really have a feeling that I wanted to have.
