HARRY is a short story portraying the struggles of a damaged individual that follows the passage of his declining capacity to adapt and function in an ever-changing world.
Harry is a proud former soldier constantly challenged by all manner of personal contradictions driven by past traumatic events. His daily existence becomes increasingly fraught with difficulties as his emotional needs and desires grapple for place and purpose. The only method of surviving his altered condition is through the unconscious adoption of a new surreal reality.
His defence mechanisms ultimately decay to such an extent that he comes to be dependent on reassuring assumptions and false hopes; this being the solitary method he is able to rely upon in supporting any semblance of normality.
As the story unfolds, HARRY takes the reader on a journey that many of us may, by unfortunate necessity, be compelled to travel ourselves – a potential excursion one step too far, and one that we would surely wish to never have to face up to undertaking.
