Lian Nguyen has come to Pele to try to save his failing marriage and advance his husband’s career. However, not all is as it seems on the lava planet. The colony of New Australia is plagued by bad luck and ongoing issues. But it does present new opportunities. Lian is thrust into the heart of the problem, given command of the biology labs that are failing to feed the colony. Yet he is alone in his endeavour, for no other biologists have come to Pele.
Lian is thrown into a sink-or-swim situation where he must swim, for failure will result in starvation and the collapse of the whole colony. Yet it is more complicated than that, for Pele is in the crosshairs of political and corporate intrigue. Oceania’s first colony will make or break its expansion, and there are many who would like to see it fail. And even some who have made the effort to do so.
He needs to navigate his role on a new planet, try to fix his marriage, find his place, and ensure the survival of the colony, yet this is easier said than done. Bad luck isn’t the only thing against him when he is caught up in bureaucratic red tape and terrorism. Can Lian manage to achieve the insurmountable and ensure New Australia’s survival against the odds?
