A ruthless billionaire. A college student. An old family rivalry.
When she must work for him to repay a debt, they discover there’s a thin line between love and hate—but will they cross it?

They say there’s a thin line between love and hate. I always believed that was nonsense.

Until it happened to me.

My whole life until now has been lived under a cloud. When I was a child, my father stood up to the wealthy tycoon ruining our small town with unsafe mining practices—but when the mining stopped, all the townsfolk could see was the loss of jobs. My family bore the community’s anger. Outcast, I had few friends growing up and even fewer prospects for my future.

Twenty years later, when Sinclair Whittier, son of said tycoon, funds an expensive upgrade to equipment at our community college, I should have stayed very far away. But I’m going to school so I can leave this town forever and take my now ailing father with me.

As TA for the dean of nursing, I’m in Sinclair’s crosshairs. He’s handsome, to be sure, with a confidence that makes my knees buckle—but I hate him for who he is and what his family has done to mine. And I quickly learn he feels the same way about me.

When the new simulation lab is destroyed under my watch—the lab that Sinclair funded—I am at his mercy. To pay for the damages, I am forced to leave my home, my father, all that I know to work for him as a servant in his mansion until every dime is paid off.

I hate him even more for taking me away from my father who needs me now more than ever. And I plan to make him regret his decision.

We thought we hated each other.

But getting to know him makes it hard to hold those old grudges, and I’d have to be blind not to realize that, as many scars as I carry, his are more in number and far deeper.

It isn’t long before I discover that thin line—but only after I’ve already crossed it.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A Thin Line by Jade C. Jamison is a fast-paced, easy-to-read romance that pulls you in with a classic enemies-to-lovers setup. It follows Annalise, a determined college student, and Sinclair Whittier, a brooding billionaire entangled in a long-standing family feud with hers.

When a mishap leaves the campus simulation lab destroyed under Annalise’s watch, she’s forced to strike a deal with Sinclair to repay the debt—moving into his massive mansion to work off what she owes. Despite their history and her deep resentment toward him, the tension between them slowly shifts into something much more complicated.

Annalise is strong-willed and relatable, and while I’m still undecided about Sinclair—he’s moody and mysterious—it’s clear there’s more to him than meets the eye.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It sets the stage well for what’s shaping up to be a steamy and drama-filled series. I’m definitely looking forward to book two, which I suspect will turn up the heat even more!

Thanks to the author for an ARC of this book. I wish I had realized it would be a cliffhanger.

I had a lot of trouble getting into this book due to the absurdity of Annalise Miller becoming an indentured servant to Sinclair Whittier because of an accusation that she destroyed a lab on her college campus. There was no evidence, and Lise quickly agreed to his suggestion.

Then, I started to recognize the many parallels to a Beauty and the Beast: a sickly father, an ill-tempered, somewhat reclusive man (billionaire) with secrets who acts like a beast, a cook/housekeeper who treats Lise like a guest, a section of the house that's off-limits, and Lise trying to negotiate time to see her father.

Once I recognized what the author was doing, and once I was able to treat it as a fairytale rather them a modern romance, it became much more enjoyable. And then it ended. I hate cliffhangers; they have a tendency to put me in a bad mood. That's why I've taken off a star. And I considered giving this book only 3 stars, based on my initial feelings about it. But once I recognized the theme, I was able to perceive the cleverness of the storytelling.

Captivating Start to Series
Annalise Miller hates Sinclair Whittier just as much as she hates the man who gave him his name because they were the ones who had ruined her dad’s life. She would never despise anyone more. They made her an outcast with no friends or opportunities. Now he has jumped to conclusions just because of her name and circumstantial evidence. This will kill her father so when Sinclair makes an offer that will avoid that she takes it. Jade C. Jamison certainly knows how to write captivating stories with anguish and chemistry. This one is packed with both. I could not put it down. Now I cannot wait to read what happens next between this two. There is sometimes a fine line between hate and love and that seems to be the case with these two.
I voluntarily read an early copy of this book.

What a captivating start to the series. Was a bit slow to get into this book, though once I got into the story line, I found it intriguing. Annalise is in college and finds herself in a situation that has her agreeing to work with an enemy of the family. Sinclair is an interesting character that can be easily disliked but there seems to be more than you can see with him. The stage is set for this to blossom to an interesting sizzling charge romance, can’t wait until the next one to find out where things lead.

An amazing first look into Sinclair and Annalise’s story. After a vandalism happens at the college that Annalise is a student/ teacher’s assistant she finds herself being blamed for it and having to work for the son of her family’s sworn enemy. After living and working for Sinclair she is learning more about him and finding him attractive. To find out more about their story I recommend you read this book.

Wow, just wow! Sinclair is a spoiled elitist, but has some common decency. Lise is railroaded because of the perceived sins of her father. She’s done nothing wrong, but is still railroaded. She’s making the best of it that she can. This has had such an emotional effect on me, and that is a sign of a really good book. I hate that I didn’t know it was a continuation and ended in a cliffhanger. I hate that part. Anxious to see what happens next.

Good book but I was hoping for more answers on who was guilty. Felt like I just got into the book and then it ended with a cliffhanger and no answers

3.5 stars Lise & Sinclair
I should have reread the blurb as I missed this was part 1 & a cliffhanger. I couldn't work out how this would progress & Sinclair become nice in the time left. I did find it a bit too slow but in context it makes sense.
Lise chooses what she hopes is the lesser evil of two unwarranted punishments, by the end of this book I'm not sure if she choose correctly, neither is she.
I'll be reading on in the hope Sinclair's actions are explained, the vandal(s) are exposed, the secrets are exposed, Sinclair improves & their story begins.

I won a copy from a Goodreads Giveaway. the book started out strong, but then the part of no proof of her committing a crime and Annalise agreeing to 10 years of servitude really got me. I wish she would have actually done it, and it would have bothered me less. Aside from that, it was very Beauty and the Beast. I thought this would some romance, and I held out hope. It's a cliffhanger with zero spice for book 1.

Billionaire douche-canoe basically forces the FMC into servitude for 10+ years for not committing the crime they accuse her of. FMC falling over herself by the end for seeing the positives of Sinclair, but I read the book and I'm still failing to pick out a single "positive" moment where he wasn't human garbage. I wont be reading the rest of the series. This was a struggle.
