In a world where Wizards are feared and hunted, Fex has lived in hiding, concealing his true identity. His secret is exposed by his wife, Justina, who betrays him to the authorities, lured by promises of wealth and power. Fex finds himself captured and forced into a life of servitude, bound to the whims of the Prince.
But Fex is not one to surrender easily. He refuses to be controlled and manipulated, even as he's caught in a web of political intrigue and a looming war. With his extraordinary magical abilities and cunning wit, he'll fight for his freedom and seek vengeance against those who betrayed him.
In this thrilling tale of magic, betrayal, and a Wizard's resilience, Fex's journey will take him through dangerous encounters, agonizing pain, and unexpected alliances. Will he find a way to break free from the bonds that tie him, or will he be forever trapped in a world that fears his power?
I know a bunch of you have been asking exactly you the heck I am. First off, my name is Whiskey Flowers, I was active duty army and now I am a proud member of the New Mexico National Guard. In my day job, I am a corrections officer, I watch the best and brightest Albuquerque has to offer and make little money doing it. I am originally from Oakland, California, home of dumbasses and knuckleheads everywhere where I attempted to become their leader until the army put me on a different path. As many of you have pointed out, I never got my high school diploma, I am a GED student but I make it look good. If any of you are ever in New Mexico and want a drinking partner, I got you.
Whiskey Flowers presents an interesting perspective on the writing of the “magic” genre…I am intrigued. I found the story original, creative and thoughtful. I would like to read more, Thank you Whiskey Flowers.
The protagonist was such a weak-minded simp who only changed after being betrayed by his wife. But even then he does not use his powers properly on her and her utterly rotten family. I found it aggravating that he didn't turn them into worms or frogs and put them into a swamp or wven better just killed the annoying bunch. But no, the bitching goes on and on and on and he even allows his horrible wife to profit from him again and keep pestering him. It is so weak and annoying!
I hated how much power Justina is supposed to have at the Royal Court. She is a simple, uneducated former washing maid, goddammit! The fuzz made about her was absolutely preposterously moronic!
Criticism and comments
I strongly disliked the use of the term input for the mana pool.
The end of the hunt is confusing as the author mixed past and present. It is also moronic as nobody can prepare thousands of square kilometres the way it was described. The used plot mechanism was really bad, therefore.
I was disappointed in this story. This is my second novel by this author, and the first that I read from beginning to end. I began reading the first novel and found so many errors in grammar and syntax, verb conjugations that were confusing, word substitutions that reflected either a hazy memory of their meanings or simply a lack of concern for language and meaning. I closed the first book after the first few chapters and never went back. This book was not as bad as the first but still has many of the same problems. The author needs a competent editor for grammar and syntax. Some of his sentences would only make sense to an 8th grader.
I was also disappointed in the actual story. No spoilers here. I found the premise of the story uninteresting. Didn't like the repetitious way the author kept hammering on the theme. Didn't like the way the story ended. Have no interest in the obvious direction the next sequel will take.
I've always been a Fan but I'm so happy he's finally did it
Whiskey Flower is one of my favorites but his books usually start off strong and by the end the MC still ends up getting the short end of the stick. This is my first read where the MC holds out till the end and doesn't get bullied, manipulated, or coerce to forgive and forget. I'm doing a little dance right now if all his books ended with all the bads getting the finger I would be faithful reader for life because i really do enjoy his stories.
So if your like me and have been waiting for MC to hold strong until the end you are going to love this story. Please make sure to send Whiskey some praise so all future books end great as well
Sorry this is a 'Did Not Finish'; I braved it out until nearly halfway.
Very badly written, hard to decipher prose, paper thin characters. By the time I abandoned ship, it had got to the point that I no longer cared what was happening and found that I was no longer willing to invest the necessary effort to read such confusing and poorly constructed prose.
not even sure a comprehensive rewrite could save this one.
Thank you Whiskey for another great book. I agree with you that we all know that person who loves to complain how they are being taken advantage of, but won’t stand up for themselves. I’m so glad that the person you knew finally did. Take care of yourself and god bless.
This turned out well. I have always favored the authors approach to story telling and this did not disappoint. Its nice to see more of a story than just continually retelling the story of how you screwed me. Knocking a star off for typos and the one sentence where I had no idea what he meant.
Once again, a good book from Whiskey Flowers. Wasn't sure if I was really going to like this book when I read the description. However, the book grew on me as the story moved along, and I really enjoyed it up until the epilog. During the reading of the epilog, I became convinced that the MC was an idiot.
I almost stopped as soon as the mc’s betrayer confronted him and he did nothing but I’m glad I continued. This is a more civilized society and so they use words instead of swords. But words they use, lots of them, like at least 90% of the book is dialogue in some form. The sleep touch was hilarious and I chuckled over the idiocy.
I adore anything by Whiskey Flowers. It's one of those books where I cheer the hero and want to reach in and bitch slap the bad guys..or women as the case may be. Pick up a few! Although if you happen to be a editing purist then these aren't for you. This author edits hiw own books and it's how he can keep the price so low. That in mind, get a few of his books. LOVE 'EM!!
I love Whiskey Flower books as the stories and characters are interesting. They often show the selfish and mean side of people's characters. Also how vulnerable people can be mislead due to loneliness or love.
Great book ! It catch's you from start to finish, the main character is great you really understand why he is so angry and bitter. The author needs another book the story is incomplete and when it's done you want more.
Awesome coming of age and independence from abusive families and women. I have some experience unfortunately. Fex is the kind of guy decent people appreciate
Another good read Whiskey, always spot on with the characters, tales with the people being real life, men working their asses off to support their family and getting no respect for their efforts, sad but true
The story is a good idea, but the writing is simplistic and, I guess choppy. I think as Whiskey Flowers gets experience they will become a great storyteller. I look forward to their future books.
That was delightful. I don’t usually laugh through fantasy fiction books but I did laugh a lot through this one. There were some spelling errors but it was easy to figure out what the word should be. I really wish you would continue Fex’s story.
I liked his willingness to indulge in schadenfreude. I loved the sheer petty, lol. It was quite satisfying to see a deserving character get what's coming to them via the MC.
Book 1 was chaotic in its telling. The plot and characters are okay and have so much information and the like it can be hard to keep up with what's going on. I did like some of the plot, but the characters are not really likeable and are whiny throughout the story.
Wizardry was the least imp. Part of this book. Themes dealing with handling belligerent family members, bosses, and individuals with superiority complexes in an interesting magic environment makes this a great read.
A very weird book. Imagine one of those awful sitcoms about a family who hate each other, but there are wizards and random battles and it’s all set in medieval times. I didn’t dislike it, so I carried on.
