I think the author forgets details from characters one book to the next. Like Ripley’s kids and grandkids. And how quickly does Ella go from one boyfriend to the next? She barely goes on one date with a guy and suddenly they’re in some sort of long term relationship… then there’s the timing issues. They go out and catch serial killers in 2-4 days and barely are back in DC for a day before being called back out to another job. Using that timing Ella and Ripley would only be about a month and a half into being partners by book 10 but this has them working together for nearly a year. And there’s no way the bureau would allow them to go out to a new job if they were basically next to dead with bullet wounds, severe burns, fractured bones, etc the day before. Why do I keep reading? Because they’re like a bad accident I can’t look away from…

This is a new start for Ella, Ripley is retired, Tobias is dead, things should be easier for her and she should be able to enjoy her 2 week vacation. Of course none of that happens. Ella talks to her boss, finds out her new partner, Paige, is going out on a case herself and can't let that happen. The case seems to be moving quickly, people are dying all around and they keep just missing the bad guy, until they don't and things go from bad to worse. I hate what happened to Paige, hate that Ella was once again in dire straights, did love that Ripley came back to help her friend. The ending to this one was bittersweet, they caught the guy, but there were huge losses. I do find I'm intrigued by what Ella learned about Ben, interested to see where that goes.

I started this series a couple of years ago so I’ve kept listening to them but I just find myself getting more annoyed with the characters. Not sure if I’ll keep listening or not.

10th book in and still can’t get enough . In my last review I made the comment who would be Ella partner now that Ripley is retired . Ella partner ended up being Agent Ellis the rookie she was paired with . The book kicks off with both Ella and Ripley recovering from their final showdown with Tobias . However in the middle of their time off Ella gets a call from the Director wanting her help on a case which she initially refused as the fight with Tobias took a lot from her yet she was curious at the same time . Her curiosity got the best of her and she left to the FBI headquarters . Once in the directors office she was greated by him and Agent Ellis . When Ella found out the rookie would be flying solo she decided to hit the road with her . This case was nothing but riddles and she was one step behind till the very end . The ending had me gasping during some scene like this can’t be the end for Ella for me I felt like she was finally getting into the grove of being a field agent . Her mind was her greatest asset and it helped she was physically fit . In this showdown with the new case Agent Ellis died in the line of duty and Ella barley made it out alive partially from her own instincts and because her former partner came in guns blazing to make sure Ella was safe . Towards the end Ripley is still in retirement and Ella is now officially on recovery for two weeks . I hope Ella takes the time off and focuses on her fathers case tjat she been trying to solve , hopefully with Ripley helping her they can make some headway . Ella boyfriend Ben is still suspicious because he was a suspect for the murder of his ex girlfriend and the case is still open so why didn’t he mention to Ella and if she ask him will it all blow up in her face or will she solve the mystery of Ben and his ex to find the truth . The only way to know is to continue the series.

I have finally picked up this series again after taking ten books off in between this one and the last because the formula that the author was using to write the books was getting too redundant for me. That’s not to say I got over that annoyance or even forgot about it, I just want to finish the series so I can mark it off as read.

There are so many instances that Ellis shows way too much dominance by snapping at people with no respect for them and although that may be seen as a cool quirk or taking leadership, it’s really not considering how she went about it. Especially how she went about handling the doctor, he would’ve shut her down and told her to leave immediately. Healthcare workers have their rules too and even though the government comes in wanting something for information, the care of the patient comes first. I think Ellis’s behavior in being disrespectful and yelling at people to get her way is not a great representation which was very disappointing to see brought in so late into a far developed series.

holy shit.

this book threw me for a loop. i’m not good at cracking riddles so at times it was a lil hard for me to follow. the pacing in this book was as good as always, i just felt a lil lost at times.
the murder method in this book was one that will stick with me. it is so dark and twisted i just couldn’t imagine going through that.
ella being taken in this book was so insane. she is so intelligent, the things she thought of i could never do - even if i was in a life or death situation. obviously, sometimes it takes me out of the story because there is no way a human being could get out of death back to back to back like ella. however, that doesn’t mean it isn’t intriguing and thrilling to read.
i feel so bad for paige, i wasn’t expecting her to be gone so soon. i liked the personality she brought to the table - even if it came on a little too strong at times.

I love this story!

The way that Blake Pierce attact the writing is so good. Clever plotting, the twist is good. I am excited to read what comes next that I finished the book in one sitting.

Very strong FMC! Ella Dark is sooo bad ass that she somewhat solved all the riddles of the serial killer. She has a wide knowledge of her work and very intuitive! I just felt bad for her new partner because she died. But her death did not go wasted. The killer was captured and brought to justice. It’s just so unfair to kill all the victims. They didn’t done anything wrong. Or at least towards to the killer. It’s just so happen that they are on the wrong place at the wrong time.

Nice exuecution! Just amount of twist, explanation and character building. See, I am so happy that I gave this author another chance, I hope to read more books coming from him.

The Ella Dark series has been one of my favorite. The power duo or Ella and Mia has always pulled me in. With Ella just coming out of one case and not able to rest for a day, she gets into her next case voluntarily- not wanting to leave rookie,Paige alone.
As Paige and Ella do what they do best, they are taken through torturous chambers of where the next serial killer is holding his victims.
Book #10 was intense! I was definitely cried way more than I should have knowing how much trouble Paige and Ella were in. Mia’s appearance and steadfast friendship is utterly heartwarming and just shows how far (yet close) two people can be.

Another Interesting Ella Dark Suspense Thriller

This Ellà Dark Suspense Thriller was really action packed. This story finds Ella and her partner young Paige Ellis. They seem to work well together. Ella has taken on the responsibility of being the more mature and sensible agent and Paige is the strong skilled hot head. It really was good 👍🏾 and worth purchasing and reading. Good Read. I highly recommend this book.

Ella and Paige --Ella and Mia

Ella, FBI agent, is called to work on a case where the victim has been poisoned, along with her rookie partner, Paige. Mia Ripley has retired. The only clues are riddles that show up at the police department. Can Ella figure out the riddles before there are more victims? This one, like the one book in the series before it, ended on a cliffhanger. I love it when the author leaves me wanting more.

I’m fairly new to the Ella Dark series but do find these plots to be entertaining. The dialog between character can be a bit cringy, as well as some stereotypical things they try and say. I first read #9 and that cliff hangar kept me going so I was really looking forward to seeing what Ben was all about in book #10. Sadly he wasn’t even in this one!!

Girl, Escaped (Ella Dark -- Book 10)

No details in this short review. Great story telling every inch of the way. Fortunately small list of characters so you get to know them intimately. The story gets more and more painful, but ends so sweetly, thank goodness! Don't skip this one!

While I still love the series and can not wait for the next one, it was very predictable. Really 3.5 stars

Plot was still good, and I’m not sad I read it. But again very predictable.

The one HUGE twist was very sad though and I DID NOT see that coming. (Only reason I’m rating it 4*s)

This series actually gets better as it goes on. Ella is no longer a bratty little girl. This crime was very similar to one in a previous book but this is still one of my favorite ones of the series.

Escaped

Very active story. Kept you guessing From Mia's retirement to her coming to the rescue. Too bad about Paige. Think she would have been a great new partner. Ready to read on and sed what happens with Ben.

Extremely sad that Paige dies. She was a novice agent since she wasn't too good when it came to profiling but the physical portion of being an FBI agent, she excelled (kicked everyone's ass, unapologetically). I liked Paige more then Ella.

The last book in this series that I will be reading.
The author leaves a "cliff hanger" at the end of every book, that I am not going to get sucked into this time.
The books have language I do not want in my mind.

Enjoyed it!

Book 10 of the series had the familiar twists and turns that I've come to expect. It has its share of surprises too. Looking forward to #11.

This whole series sucked me in because the premise is so good, but the writing and plot/characters are too simplistic.

Poor Paige 😭

Loved the riddles part of this killer. The psychological torture from the unsub was crazy and very hard to read.
