Oh, so Ella Dark, the one-woman FBI show, huh? Because who needs backup when you're the epitome of competence? It's a riot watching her turn down reinforcements with that DARK brain and a hefty dose of stubbornness. Sure, tackling serial killers solo is a real knee-slapper. Oops, after this case, it's a thigh-slapper.
There is a lot going on in this one for Ella. There is the case that she got called in for, the upside there is that she is working with Riley again. As the two of them work through things and get the bad guy, by the end they seemed to have worked out all of their differences and Riley gives Ella the nod that she will be good going forward. Then there are issues with Ben, ones that seem like they have blown up anything they could have...or maybe not. That remains to be seen, both of them need to be gentle with each other going forward. Lastly we have Ella's quest to find out what happened to her dad. Just when she thought she was at a dead end, she finds one nugget that leads her to what looks like another dead end, until all of a sudden a person appears and it seems like Ella is going to find out. Seems a bit too easy, we'll find out in the next one if it is.

After reading the last 11 books I noted I was finding the same repetitive storyline a bit dry but the cliff hangers at the end of each book kept me wanting more. I’m at the point in the series now where I’m ready to take a break. A change in the storyline with emergence of a serial killer, working the case and then finally catching the serial killer would make the books more enjoyable.
This case took me by surprise with the religion aspect of it . Ripley & Ella my dynamic duo were working the case together and Ella was able to catch the guy single handed , although he did have those ladies going round and round on motive and suspects . Another case closed by them woohoo what’s interesting for me was her personal life . Ella needs to fight the darkness within with some light I don’t want her to push away the good things hopefully she learns that sooner than Ripley did with the career their in . Ella love life came to an end in the last book or so we thought . One night while away in the case she typed a message him to him only to delete and not send well Ben was in the chat earlier and I guess stayed on but showed offline and saw her typing with no message received on his end . The very last day of the case when they are about to get home he send Ella a message and she shows up to his place . I’m glad they talked but I do want to know more about that conversation . In the last book Ella found a lead about her dad which turned out to be a dead end which was not so much a dead end she made a friend in the man who owns the building. Through this unseen friendship she goes back and they are fishing he ask about her father and she tells him back to square one while looking at the items she discovered from the locked box . The man was able to help ella find out all the items were made at the same place so when she looked it up the place seemed to be shut down . Once she got to the site it was an abandoned workshop . It wasn’t until Ella thought she was alone that an older man came out and he knew who she was and all he could say was I can show you better than I can tell you pretty much and then book chapter over book ends . I am left on this huge cliff hanger like what is she going to see I need to know just as badly as Ella does at this point . I am not so much interested in the next case but more so looking to what is going to happen in her personal life cause things are starting to get more interesting .

In this the 12th book of the Ella Dark Suspense series, Mia Ripley and Ella Dark are paired once again. Mia is supposed to be retired or retiring. They are sent to a small town in Virginia where people are being killed by an unsub, who is stabbing his victims with a "knife", at least that is what we think is happening. Two people have been killed the same way and then they are positioned in a position as if they are praying. This has some biblical overtones, and it is definitely a mystery even up until the end, when Ella finally figures it out. I liked this story just like a I love all Blake Pierce mysteries, whether they are suspense thrillers or psychological thrillers like Jessie Hunt or Riley Paige or all the different women heroines that are each of these series. Can't wait for the next one in this series, because it was left with a twist that I really couldn't understand. This was a good read.
Since the author is allowed to copy and paste the same formula over and over again from book to book, I only think it fair that I am able to copy and paste a review from a book earlier in the series since it will essentially say the same thing. That was dramatic of me. However, I feel it was truthful which can be seen throughout my past reviews. I think this author has the potential to write some amazing books, but for some reason is stuck pushing out too many poorly written, check list books.
Something I haven't addressed in the past with this series yet is the lack of Ella’s training. She was just a desk worker with the knowledge of serial killers who was then thrown out into the field. Now without any on the job formal training or classwork she is able to tell bruising patterns, blood spatter, abnormalities in body positioning, chemical imbalances, environmental attention to detail, and so much more that aren’t things that come naturally. I don’t think so.
Ella is called in on a new case, along with her old partner and trainer Mia Ripley. Someone is killing his victims with a dagger, then posing them kneeling in a position of prayer. It's a very small town, where everyone knows everyone else. Narrowing down the suspect took a lot of untangling trails through the clues, and several dead ends. A priest, church, confessional booth-- Ella struggles with this one. It is the first book in the series I had to force myself through several times before I finished it. Still the ending is awesome. And I'm left excited to read the next one.
Ella and her semi retired partner are called in to solve murders happening in a small town of 2,000 people. The victims seem random until Ella stumbles on to a thing the all have in common. Now they have to protect who they think the next victim will be but have they got the right person or will the serial killer get yet another victim? At last Ella is making some headway in finding out what really happened to her father 20 plus years ago. And again she gets severely injured is on a plane going home in 3 hours. Really???
this was good. i’ve thoroughly enjoyed this series but i think im getting a little burnt out. the storyline is great as always just a little repetitive. i did like that ella mended things with both mia and ben. hopefully, with that ending the mystery of what happened to her dad will start to piece together
It’s a good day when you wake up to a notification that the most recent book in your favorite series was released early! This one didn’t grab my attention as quickly as past ones - but it was good, nonetheless!
Ella and Mia join forces again to take down a killer in a small town. I can feel this series rising to a climactic ending and look forward to reading the last book.
I admit I read these books because I like the chemistry between Mia Ripley and Ella Dark. However, the author uses too many similes are overused and many of them aren’t applicable to the situation. I feel the books are written to quickly and could use a good editor.
A real thriller. Ella is so brave and smart. The way the killer gets into her head, making her just want to find him, arrest him, and not kill him. Amazing thriller series.
Another great book in the Ella Dark series. This book brings us a little closer to the mystery of her dads death. This is a must read for any lover of this series.
I swear Ella needs to cool her jets and stop trying to fist fight all the killer at the end just to hear their motives like wtf are you thinking girl? huh....
I love this series but this book and book 13 didn’t keep my attention as much. I feel like the serial killer references weren’t as present in this story.
I keep expecting this series to get better and I'm disappointed every time. That being said, it's still a decent read, just the same story over and over.
