President Gordon B. Hinckley said, "We cannot detract from their accomplishments. We cannot add to their glory. We can only look back with reverence, appreciation, respect, and resolution to build on what they have done."

Reading these women's journals and diaries filled my soul with joy. They suffered much, but also experienced great joy in their commitment to follow their Savior to "the promised land." They left home and family; they bore children; they buried loved ones; they ministered to others--all while traveling thousands of miles to the valley of the saints in Salt Lake City.

I loved reading their stories as they journeyed to Zion.

This is a highly recommended read, especially for modern members--women of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

This was a good collection of pioneer women and their trials and endurance and faith. I really liked the illustrations; they were beautiful. These short pieces were touching and amazing! I was hoping for my own ancestors to be included, but it was cool to think maybe of them knew them who also sailed on the Thornton and joined the Martin handcart company.

What I loved about this book was that I felt like I was getting to know some of my great-great-grandmother's friends. Many of the women who are highlighted in the book traveled to America on the Thornton (same ship as Elizabeth Funnell) and crossed the plains in the Willie Handcart Company.

There are also stories about some of the members of the Ricks family and the Jens Nielson family.
