Landsome Roads

Rate this book
One reader has the chance to fix her favorite series…and maybe fall in love?

Real life doesn’t compare to an imaginary one fueled by Dottie’s favorite book series, Landsome Roads. After her obsession gets her in trouble at work, Dottie escapes to the library only to find she’s read all the romantic fantasy on the shelves.

Dottie wanders into a wing she’s never seen before and finds herself drawn to a new book. When she opens the cover, she finds herself hand in hand with Sorrel, who says she’s Dottie's Fairy Bookmother. Sorrel is testing a new division of fantasy and promises she can send Dottie directly into the world of Landsome Roads to meet the handsome male lead, but only if Dottie agrees to help solve a late-series plot problem.

Dottie says Sorrel’s crazy, but in true Fairy Bookmother fashion, Sorrel sends her anyway…

Delightful story for book lovers

I greatly enjoyed Landsome Roads! A woman is swept up in her favorite fantasy series…. And must fix it. What’s not to love about that concept? Dashing heroes, powerful queens, unlikely allies… the author keeps you guessing.

The writing is excellent and you feel like you’re immersed in the book. I look forward to book 2!

I really wanted to enjoy "Landsome Roads", especially given the premise of entering a beloved fictional world — but unfortunately, the execution fell flat for me. The pacing felt painfully slow, the characters lacked spark and the story never grabbed my attention long enough to care. What should have been whimsical and immersive came across instead as dull and confusing. It became increasingly hard to stay invested and eventually I had to set it aside as a DNF. A good concept, but sadly, a very boring read that didn’t live up to its potential. It took me over a month but still I am not able to cover-up with stanzas.

I was fortunate enough to receive an ACR copy of Landsome Roads. I wasn't sure what to expect going into it, as it looked a bit different than Rebecca's other books, but I was pleasantly surprised. The book slowly sucked me in until I was personally invested in the characters.

I was expecting a romantasy like many of the others out there right now..with magic and generic love interests, but this is so much more. Rebecca has spun a fascinating tale about a relatable woman, Dottie, who finds herself within the very story she has loved for so long. She has a chance to leave her mundane life and experience things she could only dream about. Along the way, Dottie faces situations and decisions that slowly begin changes her...and I cannot wait to see how more she grows.

I didn’t expect to like this novella as much as I did, but let’s go Dottie!!

Don’t we all wish to be here in this case? Dottie is chosen by her fairy bookmother to enter the fictional world of her favorite book series to fix the plot and also add more romance 💘

When she finally gets to meet her book crush, the hero of the story, he isn’t quite what she thought he would be.

My thoughts: it’s quite clear early on that Ironclaw isn’t right for Dottie and that Draw is much more interesting as a character and love interest.

I‘m genuinely happy for her to have fun such a kindhearted man whom she can trust.

Got the opportunity to receive an ARC copy of this book.

This is my favorite book written by Rebecca so far!

The first chapter was a little hard for me to read due to the feeling of second-hand embarrassment, but it was well worth pushing through to read the rest of the story. Who doesn't like the idea of being put literally inside the world of your favorite book?

Can't wait to see how the relationships between the characters develop ❤️ (I'm looking at you, Lord Draw 😉)

This was a cute, quick read about a woman named Dottie who is whisked away by a Fairy Bookmother to save her favorite romantasy series Landsome Roads from its disappointing ending.

The fun twist for me was the love interest not being who I expected based on Dottie’s obsession with a certain male character when reading the books in the real world.

The story ends on a cliffhanger so I’m excited to get my hands on the second book in the series as soon as it publishes!

This was a cute read that set up what I hope will be an exciting overall story. Following Dottie as she attempts to adjust to life in her favorite book series was interesting and I loved the turn the romance took. Other than saying I thought this turn made far more sense, I don't want to give too much away.

One thing I want to see more of in future books is Dottie making friends with others around her and learning about how far from the plot of her books the world is currently situated. I want to know more about Issa, Meg, Draw, and Ariana.

I can't wait to see where Dottie and the changing plot of Landsome Roads go next.

I had the chance to read an arc of this wonderful story in exchange for an honest review.

This book read a lot like fan fiction and the first few chapters felt very juvenile in dialogue. The world building and plot just got good when the book ended. As far as romantasy goes this book was very short and a very fast read. The book ended at what felt like should have been part 1 and not the whole book. The main character is a little desperate and horny, I wish she was more put together and still book obsessed. I’ll read book two and I’m interested to see where this plot and character development goes but I’m only willing to continue because it was such a light easy read.

Trigger warnings: War, Classism, and Queer Bating.

Clever Concept. Memorable Characters.

Landsome Roads is a fun, quick read for anyone looking to escape into a fantasy realm. The story begins when a woman named Dottie is dropped into the world of her favorite book series. Dottie gets the opportunity to rewrite the ending of the series while also exploring a relationship with the leading heartthrob.

The concept is super clever! The author does a fantastic job of grounding you in the fantasy world, while seamlessly relating the adventure and romance back to Dottie’s real life on present day Earth. Rich descriptions of scenery paint a vibrant picture of a medieval-esque realm complete with castles, Lords, and knights. At the same time, memorable characters with the occasional witticism keep you turning pages wondering what will happen next. I especially like how the author spotlights characters who were originally sidelined in Dottie’s favorite series. It reminds you that things are not always what they seem and there’s more to learn about the complex people who cross our paths. Thanks to the author for granting me early access to this novel with an ARC copy.

I had a little bit of an issue getting into the story. Once Dottie was in the book, I had far less trouble suspending my disbelief. I also thought this book’s story would have reached a more solid conclusion as the blurb did not let on that it would be part one of possibly many. If it does turn out to be a standalone, I’d really have wanted more conclusion to certain plotlines/character development.

I loved the concept of the story, being teleported into a book and interacting with the story, but overall the characters were kind of shallow and it felt like I was reading a pilot for a series that may or may not continue.

Rebecca M Zornows writing style is easy to read, easy to follow and flows well. I finished the book in two days.

If you’re an all-consuming reader who loves romantasy novels, this one is for you.

Review:

Lucky me! I was able to acquire an ARC copy of this first book of a promising romantasy series.

Do you ever need to shut out all of the noise of the world and escape into your favorite fandom? Well—you’re here and I already know the answer is yes, so here’s is my advice:
You need to meet Dottie.

When destiny comes calling, Dottie takes on the challenge of fixing the disastrous final novel to her most coveted book series by transporting into the world herself and changing the plot. The only problem is—changing the plot is much easier whilst imagining it from your couch.

I had the best time reading this book and was laughing from chapter one. I felt a kindred connection in Dottie as she went through the harrowing process of defending the honor of her favorite series while her pretentious peers sneered. I absorbed this story quickly :)

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This has not been my typical genre over the years, but since reading Rebecca’s other books, I am hooked.
Landsome Roads is different than the other books she’s written. It does include her signature talent of world and character development.

How does Dottie become part of the very story she loves? No spoilers! Must read to find out! As always, I was left wanting more. I didn’t know there were more books to follow until later.

Stick with Dottie, living a fantastical life inside the story. It is such a great premise; will her actions change the story? It was easy for me to follow the transition from Dottie’s real life into her fantasy storybook life.

Get ready for the release in September. Thank you for the opportunity to read the ARC.

I received this book as an arc, at first I wasn't sure if this was going to be my cup of tea as it is very unique and not my usual choice but I ended up really enjoying it.
Dottie is obsessed with the world and the characters in her favorite book series and one day after a visit from her 'fairy bookmother' Sorrell, finds herself transported into that world, with the mission of saving the final book in the series.
I love reading novellas in-between other books and I flew through this one, I pray that there will be more to follow because it ended on such a cliffhanger and I need to see how things play out for Dottie.

The way this book ended …. I cannot. I need to know how the journey ends between Draw and Dottie!

This book was an easy read - cute fantasy for a book lover (Dottie) that gets pulled into her favorite series quite literally.
In her world at home, she’s an introvert that escapes to her books, but what happens when she gets a visit from her Fairy Bookmother!?

She’s infatuated with the MMC Ironclaw…will she remain as obsessed when Lord Draw comes into the picture.

Again, cute read and I can’t wait to find out what happens in the next book! Thank you to the author, Rebecca Zornow for having me as part of her arc team and getting to read early - all opinions are my own.

What would you do if you had the chance to "fix" the complaints you have in a favorite book/series? Would you be willing to live IN the book? How would you change the plot? And how would this opportunity change you?

At its crux, these are the questions posed in Landsome Roads. I am seriously hoping the author will have more books to follow this novella. I will say, the first chapter is the strangest first chapter I have ever read, but in a way that intrigued me. The character development is easy to follow and results in a cute romantasy, so far.

My favorite quote in this book is:
"It was an ethical question - if I slept with a fictional character in a committed relationship, AITA?"

Rebecca M. Zornow's latest book is really entertaining; I woke up in the middle of the night to finish the last 40 pages because I couldn't stop thinking about where the adventure might be heading. There's an appealing and often very funny meta awareness about romantasy throughout the book, and I was also surprised by great scenes where genres mix and the story opens up in unexpected ways, like when the protagonist finds herself explaining cosmology to one of the characters in her favorite book series. Landsome Roads is a strong start to a new series, and I'm looking forward to reading the next early in 2026.

I was lucky to receive an ARC from Rebecca. I thought that the plot of this novel was very unique, and put a fun spin on literally "escaping into your favorite book." I definitely want to see how the store continues on in her next novel. It was a quick read that I would recommend to fellow fantasy fans. Glad I was given the opportunity to read it!
