It's Coming For Me

Rate this book
In high school, the line between God and Grave is drawn in blood.

There is something wrong inside the Benson house. For twelve years, Cole has suffered the unspeakable darkness of abuse from his parents. And every night, a sinister whispering haunts him from the crawlspace above his bedroom. His only shield is a desperate, unwavering faith.

School is Cole's sanctuary, tainted only by the two esteemed athletes who secretly torment him. It's in the classroom where he finds comfort in Emma, who represents everything good in his world. But when the malevolent voice from the attic begins to screech at him in the hallways, his terror becomes impossible to mask, peaking the bullies' morbid curiosity. On Halloween Eve, they follow Cole home and force open the door that was never meant to be touched, unleashing Cole’s greatest nightmare and Springton’s first murder.

But the horror is far from over. Cole's tormentors have transformed into something monstrous, and the boy who was once too afraid to speak must now scream the truth. Cole has to convince a skeptical town that the golden boys are no longer human and protect his classmates and the girl he loves. Some nightmares can't be prayed away—they must be fought. And Cole must lead the fight before the sun sets on a final, bloody Halloween.

Jessica Blade writes YA horror. She wrote her first complete novel when she was fourteen. That's when she realized how much she adores twisty plots and psycho killers, and she's been writing ever since. Jessica also loves reading RL Stine and Christopher Pike, and when she's not creating her next terrifying story, you'll find her binging horror movies and scary video games with her awesome husband.

One sitting. Blammo, I am done reading.
A fun skitter through a Halloween like no other and maybe some redemption along the way too.
The front half of the book is riveting with an expected slow down toward resolution.
Read. It.

As always Jessica brings you in a world full of imagination and suspense. Perfectly executed timeline of the 1980’s through the entire book. You’re always on the edge of your seat and you can’t stop reading. It’s a thriller and horror storyline with so much detail! I love her books.

"Good against evil". I found the evil in the story to be relentless. The writing was ok, but I might have enjoyed it more if it was not so heavy handed on the fact that noone was looking out for the protagonist, Cole. I also feel that the story might be aimed more to much younger reader than the young adult designation.
I received a copy of this book through Book Sprouts and am voluntarily leaving my opinion of the tale.

I'm actually pretty transparent when it comes to my reviews, and I'll read pretty much anything; including Christian fiction (the Left Behind series and the Seventh Dimension series are among my favorites), but I went into those KNOWING they were highly Christian and God based. There was no surprise when the Bible was tossed all over the pages or used in metaphor. Throwing religion out of left field is a huge turn off for me. And that's ANY religion, not just Christianity.
That being said, this story was actually amazing... Until around 85% into it when Bible verses became the things to fight the evil  with, without the warning that it was Christian horror. I absolutely could have done without the indoctrination attempt; especially when Christianity's only tie to Halloween is that Halloween was meant to be a mockery of Samhain. However, if the kid that didn't believe in God in the first 84% of the book didn't start magically knowing Bible verses, this would have been a top notch read for me, even if it is a direct subgenre change from the first two Bliss High books (which until now have been physiological horror).
If I'd had the warning that this story was so deeply steeped in Christianity I would have enjoyed the ending far more than I did. As it is, it felt sudden and forced.
There's also a few minor grammatical errors sprinkled throughout the book; nothing drastic or distracting. The most distracting aspect was literally the random, sudden addition of Bible verses in an otherwise phenomenal Halloween-themed story.
As always, this is just MY personal opinion. I think Jessica Blade is an extremely talented horror author and I fully intend to continue reading her books; a little warning next time would go a long way though, at least when it comes to my reviews.

I give this book 3 of 5 Paws.

This book is a good combination of horror and Amazing plot and characters. The main character, his back story and the things that be goes through at the beginning feels heart wrenching but at the same time connects us with the character.
The story slowly develops and we can see how the plot is getting thicker. The monster introduced was effective and impactful as the entry was with a bang.
I really like how the story was moving, the pace of the book was medium, neither too slow, nor too fast.
I would highly recommend this book to all horror lovers.

This is the first book I have read by this author and I can honestly say she has one heck of an imagination. This story was full of suspense that kept you on the edge of your seat wondering what was going to happen next. This book was definitely a page turner and did not won't to put it down. I was definitely surprised by the ending I was sure I knew where she was going to take the story but I was wrong. I definitely recommend it.

In Halloween Terror, evil shadows over most aspects of high school student Cole’s life. The story-line is fast paced while showcasing the battle between good and evil. Great character development intertwined with lots of twists and turns keeps you reading into the night.

This novel is set in the early 80s. The author does a good job of making the 80s setting realistic. The horror aspect reminded me of the classic 80s horror movies rossed with RL Stine’s “Fear Street” books. Cole, the main character, is burdened with an abusive family, two school bulliee, and a monster in the attic that thickens the plot twice as much. It is up to Cole and two of his friends to fight the coming destruction with faith and their own wits.
