After a horrific tragedy rocks a clan of primitive warriors, they fight to find answers and get justice for their family. As they interrogate the hell-dwellers called Rancorous, they descend further into their dark world that the King of Hell conquered long ago. Throwing themselves into gory violence, they scramble to unravel riddles left behind. Through all the trauma, the young warriors fight to live and love, in what's left of their society. A barbaric society, where women are reduced to slaves; abused by the corrupt and spared by the noble. The top warrior, Huhkhan the Horrid, has a woman thrown into his possession, but the female slave wields a possible key to level the guerilla war between humans and Rancorous. During Chichuba's apprenticeship under Huhkhan, she gets to know her clan and learns to love her new family and the brutal men that are gentle with her. Even forming a forbidden and passionate romance with a prominent warrior. Due to Chichuba's worth to the human race, Huhkhan desperately tries to protect her from being ripped from his possession, not only from the aggressive men who lust after her divine beauty, but the Rancorous that would end her on the spot if they knew what she truly was. Huhkhan brutally toughens Chichuba into a warrior, ensuring she won't rely on men to protect her from Hell—as she is molded into Huhkhan the Horrid's apprentice.
Holy crap guys! The unique world that was created within these pages is so beautiful!! Chichuba is who I wanna be when I grow up! The challenges that each character has to deal with and the fact that at the end of everyday above all else they will choose to fight😍 this Fantasy read is worth it all!
I really did not know what to expect from this book and it blew my mind in the best possible ways and it’s her DEBUT NOVEL! The way the author builds the primitive dystopian (I would say) post apocalyptic type world and the rough around the edges characters is just fantastic. I could see everything play out like a movie as I read, it is just so well written. I can see this becoming a movie, or better yet a kickass anime/manga series! I loved that there are multiple characters to follow along with and you build a relationship with each of them individually. My anxiety for the safety of each of them through this entire book was so high! I also loved the possible love triangle between Chichuba, Huhkhan & Maz. I enjoyed the fact that the author doesn’t shy away from really heavy issues like death, and women’s oppression. This book kept me entranced and I didn’t want to put it down. I want more! I’m so excited that this is a series because WOW and again ITS HER FIRST BOOK! 🤯

I’m in shock this is Rafaela Ribio’s debut novel! It is fantastic and had me on edge of my seat until the end….she totally left me wanting, actually needing more!
This book is slightly different than my normal read. It is dystopian with 5 or so main characters instead of just focusing on one couple. The author has an incredible knack for imagery and as such it was so easy to get lost in this book. I actually felt like I was part of the action. The fighting scenes were the perfect amount of action and gore, the romance scenes were spicy as heck and the feelings in this book? Let’s just say you’ll need tissues several times.
I can’t wait to see what this author comes up with next.
Thank you to Rafaela Ribio for the honor of BETA reading this book.
Please note: This is an Advanced Readers Copy Review (ARC).
RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ AUDIENCE: MATURE AUDIENCE. There are some heavy topics including oppression, the gore/torture/intimate scenes are descriptive, some things may be triggering to readers. This book does contain a warning however the list is not complete so please take the authors warning seriously.
SUMMARY (SPOILER FREE): This is a dystopian-esque world. If you have seen or read The 100 it it's similar to Grounder-core. The world is not as it is today. Souls are sold and they feasted upon, while the human race has evolved in order to survive. While things feel reactive the tide begins to change with new information and a new addition to the tribe with a mysterious backstory.
CHARACTERS & ARC DEVELOPMENT:
FIRST OFF BLESS THE FACT THERE IS A PRONOUNCIATION LIST.
Rowtak: if he dies I riot. I absolutely adore him and he has so much potential as a chatacter.
Hahkhan: Curse you troubled, dark haired, grumpy man for making me adore you and root for you. Maz is easy to love but there is something about this grump that I absolutely adore. He calls Chichuba valuable. And most see him only valuing her gifts but he's never said that explicitly. This is a man who says what he means. But throughout the story we see others see differences in his behavior. People WANT to see the horrible but would the horrible suggest more permanent homesteading? Would they TRULY break the Creed if they were heartless? This man is also funny- GIVE HIM CREDIT FOR IT: Hak hands over a paper Toekuh: "What's this... this just says I do what I want" However- I want to know more about the deals he might be involved in...
Maz: your sunshine to the grump when it comes to romantic leads. Maz is very easy to fall in love with. He is wonderfully written.
Chichuba: she is quite the female main character. I am looking forward to learning more about her past in the future.
Bly: MORE BLY PLEASE. My little heart was like, "I like this one. Can we please keep him?"
PLOT: In a world where the human race is hunted, the humans have evolved for survival. While until recently things seemed to be reactive the tides might be turning with new information and a new arrival into the Hatchki.
PACING: The pacing changes as you read, I don't think that's a bad thing though. I feel it portrays more like what this world is like. It's a war and while there are moments to live and enjoy, war can be fast, brutal and unrelenting.
WRITING STYLE: This is a casual style of writing, you jump a bit to understand characters. But it's not daunting. The imagey is wonderful though from what you see to what you smell. It was very easy to see/smell in this book. I feel like so many series forget the sense of smell but this book was so vivid with it. Just beautiful descriptions.
CRITISCISM: The entrance to this world is jolting. You don't get much of an introduction and are thrown into it very quickly without much description. HOWEVER, if you stick with it more is explained. Also considering the traditions of the Hatchki this makes sense, this is your trial- come back with clothes (your understanding of the world in this case.) The world in this sense thrives on riddles and I actually love that. Everything isn't perfectly laid on a platter for you and that's honestly enjoyable. You really feel like you are on this adventure with everyone.
PRAISE: Imagry is INCREDIBLE. The first raid we get the imagry of the group running through the woods is so good. This is used to explain more of the tribe. I truly enjoyed getting to see the characters interact together. I enjoyed the writing of this book a lot.
OVERALL RATING AND OPINION: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I enjoyed this book, the first chapter made me a bit unsure due to the feeling of being jolted in but stick with it for sure.
Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Author: @hatchkibookseries POV: Multi 3rd Person Gene: Dystopian Dark Romantasy Triggers: Gore, Misogyny, Drugs, Murder, Torture, Violance, Open door sex, etc. Read Time: 8-11 hours Expected Publishing Date: OUT NOW
❤️ World Building: The world building in this book is necessarily descriptive in the narrative, but it didn’t take away from the story at all, it was a great balance between the two. The world is very dystopian with remnants of the past world sprinkled throughout.
❤️ The Characters: The characters were just amazing! Chichuba was the MFC and she is still a mystery at the end of this book. She is naive in a lot of ways, but she is still fierce and a killer, despite her fear. Maz seemed like a playboy with redeemable qualities. The other side characters were also interesting and captivating, but the character that I desperately want to know about is Huhkhan the Horrible, what motivates him, what is his back story, what is he feeling! I need to understand this man better.
❤️ The Story: The story was as beautiful as it was dark. It drew me in and didn’t let me go until I finished it! I was late on reading it,so I almost skipped it but I’m so glad that I didn’t!!!!! I honestly don’t know what to say, you just need to read it.
❤️🔥Overall: This was an amazing read and I think it hasn’t been hyped up enough, so I’m glad I can hype it up even if it’s just to my tiny audience. 🥰
🦏 Elasmotherium Fact Inspired by the horses: Elasmotherium was a tremendous animal, and a strange one. It weighed around 3.5 tons, but in spite of its massive heft, it had relatively slender limbs, suggesting it was an adept runner. Its body was covered in shaggy hair, and the horn that jutted out from its skull was the largest of any known rhinoceros species, living or extinct. The geographic range of E. sibiricum appears to have been relatively limited; its fossils have been found primarily in Kazakhstan, western and central Russia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. I was gifted this book free for my honest opinion, you know the drill 😉
Wow I cannot believe what I just read. This dystopian post-apocalyptic book was absolutely mind blowing in the greatest way possible. I absolutely love that this is a slow build-up kind of book which is so amazing for me because all the small details make such a big difference in a book like this. Oh and the love triangle on top of all this amazingness was the chef's kiss. Chichuba, Huhkhan & Maz relationship was just so breathtaking. I also love the fact that the author just went for heavy issues that a lot of people shy away from they put it right there in your face in the most understanding and respectful way was amazing. This book kept me entranced the whole way through. The world was built up perfectly, the story and the characters were built up perfectly. I understand this was a debut book for this author and oh my goodness did they absolutely knock it out of the park. Know I'm sitting over here waiting for a book to like a little kid in a candy store I'm ready to eat it up cuz I'm so excited to see how this continues.
“The sun may observe everything we do; however, the moon id aware of all of our secrets.”
Reading this book left a mix of so many emotions. I went through the feels of being heart broken and crying my eyes out to feeling empowered as well. I was enchanted by every detail I read. I really felt part of this dystopian post-apocalyptic world. I absolutely loved knowing how each and every character felt and what went through their heads. If anything I really felt part of the tribe myself. The character development and growth was an honor to see and had me at the edge of my seat. The relationship between Maz, Huhkan, and Chichaba was so intense and in its own way beautiful to me. The empowerment I felt as a woman reading this was incredible. The action in this book was truly top tier. Everything in this book was created exceptionally. This book left me craving for more from this world and I can’t wait to be captivated all over again.
#cookiereads Hatchki Supernal by Rafela Rubio ⚔️ Hatchki are a tribe of folks whose sole mission is to take down the Rancorous (think Vampires). During one of these missions, Huhkhan the horrible saves Chichuba a lady who has the unique gift of healing. Huhkhan takes Chichuba in as his apprentice. Will he be able to protect her from the Rancorous? Meanwhile Rowtak is trying to find answers on how to end the Rancorous. He is given riddles as clues. Can he solve this riddle? ⚔️
Furiends this is one of the most original novels I have read. Kudos of Rafaela making this wonderful world with major themes and making it realistic. I love it!!! Can’t wait to see what secrets are in book 2.
3.5 out of four paws. #bookgram #dystopianbooks #tuxedokitty #hatchkisupernal
This book was fantastic! The FMC felt like a perfect blend of Princess Kida and Audrey from Atlantis—a fierce warrior with a warm heart, surrounded by hardened brutes who turn out to be so much more than they seem. The world and character building were top-notch, and as the story unfolds, you can’t help but fall in love with the clan. I’m truly impressed that this is the author’s debut novel. The world-building felt fresh and immersive, and it’s clear she put real effort into developing each character. The story pulled me in completely—I kept reaching for this book over the others I was reading at the same time. I can’t wait for book two!
definitely different from my normal read. I kept seeing this book well arc sign ups for the second book all of my ig feed and the art was gorgeous I took it as my sign to sign up. The book took me a few days to get through I like where it's going Rafaela is telling a interesting story, I want to know more about the characters specially Chichuba and her past and why shes special. I do feel like the romance was a bit rushed quick to fall in love I feel like it was definitely more instalust versus love because outside of a few bed tumbles they haven't much interacted I don't know I look forward to see where this story goes in the second book.
I was a BETA reader for this book and I LOVED it, but forgot to post this review when it finally became available for purchase. The storytelling is immersive and confident, blending the surreal with deeply human emotions. Every scene feels intentional, every detail charged with meaning. The prose is rich without being overwhelming, and the pacing strikes a perfect balance between slow-burn tension and moments that absolutely take your breath away.
What truly sets Hatchki Supernal apart is its ability to make you feel—uneasy, curious, awed, and completely invested. The characters are complex and compelling, and the themes linger in your mind, inviting reflection long after the story ends.
This one is dark, brutal, and does not hold your hand. It throws you straight into the chaos, and while that felt jarring at first, once I settled in it really worked for the story. The world is harsh, the stakes are heavy, and everything feels earned instead of softened.
What I liked most was watching strength get built over time, especially in a place where survival isn’t guaranteed and trust is rare. The relationships hit harder because of how unforgiving the world is.
Definitely not for everyone check the content warnings but if you like intense, gritty stories that fully commit to their atmosphere, this one delivers.
Thank you to the author for providing a copy of this book.
Brilliant fantasy, passionate romance and gripping warfare. From the first chapter I was immersed in the thrilling world of the Hatchki warriors and their story. The writing is so vivid, I could picture every scene. The characters though fantastical have real, deep human emotions that moved me as they face their struggles – I honestly found myself thinking about them while I was lying in bed at night! I highly recommend reading this wonderful book by a very accomplished writer.
This book was beautifully written. There is so much detail and world building to create this dystopian type world and explain their politics and war. It really drew you in with the characters who have all had some type of emotional trauma. I especially look forward to hearing more about Chichubas story after that ending.
This was absolutely amazing, the plot was very interesting and very well written and very deep and The characters were very interesting and amazing and the world building was absolutely incredible I absolutely loved it 😍
The fact that this was a debut novel blows my mind!!! The absolutely immersive world building was amazing! I was truly lost into this fantastical world! I cannot wait to see what this author puts out next!
This book had a slow start but the moment it picked up I could not put it down. I loved every heart retching moment the book put me through. Every Single character was well written and the world was beautiful.
A very unique world with a concept I dare say, I've never seen before. This postapocalyptic adventure will keep you on your toes until the very last chapter. Nicely done, Rafaela!
This reminded me of a male fan service Japanese anime. I thought the world the author created was unique. The fight choreography was really well done. It was graphic and well written.
Wow wow wow! This book! It's so creative! I became so fully immersed in the world that I fully gasped at the end. The character development! The worldbuilding! I was left guessing what was happening the entire time! I need book 2 ASAP!
"Hatchiki Supernal" is an awesome story with a rich cast of characters, each with fascinating backstories shrouded in mystery. The setting features a land that perished thousands of years ago, yet both sides are prepared to fight to the death for it and each other’s survival. The world-building was strong, and the history and geography were well-developed throughout the story. The societal beliefs were portrayed effectively, highlighting how human nature remains unchanged even when all seems lost. This was a fast-paced read with lots of death and gore and minimal spice. My only complaint is that there were a lot of characters and each had an interesting story that all had to be packed into one. I cannot wait to see where this story goes and if we will learn more about our amazing group of warriors.
