This was a thoughtful, well-written book that will appeal to Christians as well as those seeking answers on how to live meaningfully and how to include God in our 21st century lives. The author is a professional illusionist who discusses the concepts of truth and deceit, God and the devil, honesty and lies as he presents solutions for finding faith in today's world. The writing style is easy to read and understand, and includes Bible verses to reinforce and validate his explanations.
This is an out of the box book that makes one examines themselves and the world around them. It is a fresh perspective on the things that deceive us and how to become unstuck. One has to have an open mind to truly understand how the author is able to weave a story that expands our relationship with God and teaches us how to overcome Satan's constant attempts of deception.
At first I thought this book was about the pursuit of material possessions as an illusion! I knew it was a Christian book & after the opening chapter I realized it was "more" than it seemed. Satan, the great Deceiver, tricks us into thinking we need more than faith to make us believe. Harris III & Green excellently use OT & NT scriptures to guide us into a deeper faith walk with God.
This was an excellent read. More is simply an illusion. You can never reach the level of “more.” As an Enneagram 7, that is a struggle of mine because I always want “more.” And not necessarily in a bad way because I want to do more good, experience more things, but I trouble with being satisfied with the sufficiency of what I have. Harris III did a wonderful job of helping me understand the illusiveness of more.
Fantastic and a must read for everyone who believes the illusion of more told by a magician whose insights of God's words are brought to light of how three devil deceives us!
Based on book title, readers will be pleased to find book not a political rant or new theology. The book was good read that was focused on eternity but helpful to everyday life.
Hace un análisis del engaño, como fruto del miedo, en oposición a la fe. Sobre esta premisa, el autor desarrolla una exégesis importante, soportada en el poder de la palabra, como elaboradora de significado en nuestra vida.
A book that clearly sets out the key within us to overcome the lies, deceits and fears of the enemy. Our God given gift of speaking the truth believing. I found it useful.

About the Author:
Harris III is an award-winning master illusionist who has spent more than a decade communicating life-changing truths about the tricks and deceptions played on people. He has earned respect as an artist, but to many, he is an equally respected communicator. Whether telling a story, speaking candidly from his heart, or performing magic, his ultimate goal is to inspire and challenge people, initiating change and transformation.
My Review:
Satan speaks to you through your fear, what a very strong power he has over the human mind. The author goes on to say that while faith is very powerful he also believes fear to be just as powerful as well. Quote from the book"...if faith is the substance of things hoped for (Hebrews 11:1), then fear is the substances of things dreaded." As human beings we have a want in us to always have more--more of everything.
Where does the "want" for more come from and how do we avoid falling victim to it? The author takes various truths from the Bible to illustrate Satan's power over us and but also God's power over him to force him under authority and show Satan just how bound he really is. Although the book is short in length it was a very good reminder for me to not yield to the spirit of "more". It is something that Satan uses to drive us towards him and further away from our Father. God's will is our ultimate goal and we should follow that and NEVER give in to the fear that will not get us to our goal which is ultimately His goal.
As many times as the feeling of greed and wanting more has caused others to fall, you would think that we would learn from their examples but too many times, we don't. I know in my experience and that of my husband, we have had a very trying time remaining in God's will no matter what the situation. We say that we have a marriage of three; you, God, and me. If we crave to stay in God's will I truly believe we will not give into fear. Fear will bind us and turn us over to the enemy. The author has offered excellent commentary to show us how to fight our way through this stronghold.
**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from Book Fun.
Always wanting more seems to be the new American dream. Dissatisfaction with life is the antithesis of the contentment that the Bible teaches. The fear that we will be separated from whatever it is we are beholding is a symptom of believing the lie of the Enemy. In The Illusion of More, Harris III teaches that the Enemy has only one trick, one illusion that has worked for thousands of years and continues to be effective. The problem is that the deception is just that, a deception.
Through his lie he speaks through fear and Satan creates the illusion that we are about to miss out on something. Faith is the opposite of fear because it requires believing before seeing. “We should all know by now that Lucifer only has one trick in his magic show. He simply dangles before us the very thing we want or need at the moment we need or want it most. It is a simple trick, which he has used on mortal man for generations (pg. 71).”
Through stories about Job, Esau, Jacob, Adam, Eve -- Harris III shows how man over and over again fell into the Enemy’s trap by believing the illusion of fear. In the book, Harris III states, “Fear is such a misuse of imagination. The things we fear really do have a way of making the imaginable tangible. And Lucifer’s misdirection is the only sleight of hand he needs to make it happen; for we mortals are always reaching for the illusion of more or clinging in fear to the things we value most (pg. 48).”
Though not a lengthy book, The Illusion of More packs a powerful punch. Harris III states in the book, “Whatever you value most is not only where your heart resides, it is also where your fear lives. And where fear takes root, deception flowers (pg. 109).”
Jesus has given us the example of how to handle the deceiving illusionist known as Satan. “Unlike Satan, who cannot create anything but illusion and confusion, we possess the creative power to speak “Light!” to the surrounding dark…and even “Life!” when the likelihood is dim (pg. 74)”. In one of the most creative ways I’ve heard described, Harris III says that God used immunization to prevent and heal man from sin, that is immunization through the blood of Jesus. Harris III says, “Remember it this way – if you make believe you’re just pretending. But if you believe then make – you’re creating (pg. 107)”.
One of the most powerful statements he makes is “When spoken as lies, words can devastate. They can make the imaginable terrible. They can manipulate you to sink your teeth into the forbidden and even dupe you into trading your future for a bowl of regret (pg. 113)”.
Intrigued to know more? Well then, you must read The Illusion of More by Harris III.
I received this book from the Book Club Network in exchange for my honest opinion.
“Is the grass really greener on the other side… or is this the ultimate illusion? The first man and woman were closer to God than any other creature on Earth. They had everything they could have ever wanted: healthy, timeless bodies, an endless supply of food and water, and a beautiful garden in which to live and play. Still, they reached for the mirage of MORE.
Like Adam and Eve, we still reach for the forbidden today. No matter which way we turn, we’re tricked into believing that what God has provided isn’t enough. And THAT is where the ultimate illusion begins.”
When I first saw the title and subtitle of this book, I passed it by. Why, as a Christian, would I want to read about “the trick to finding faith in a world of deception”? I think that it was the word “trick” that turned me away. I do not embrace trickery. However, I decided to pick up this book anyways… and OH MY I am so glad that I did.
The Illusion of More is a remarkable little book (112 pages) told by a remarkable storyteller. To say that his words are unforgettable would be an understatement. The author, Harris III, takes us right to the beginning – to the Garden – and the first illusion of more… “If you eat this fruit you will surely be like God”.
And the story goes on from there to the illusion and deception of Satan tries to use on us to this day. Satan has only one trick, but that is all he needs. He knows that if he dangles our particular ‘carrot’ in front of us (our illusion of more) that we will reach for it over and over again.
This little book will help you to discern the lies you have been believing and replace them with life-changing Truth. Unmask the mirage of “more” and discover the secret to joy and contentment and stop allowing the deceiver to prevent you from living your life to the fullest.

Review Title: Truth of Faith and Creativity (review of The Illusion of More by Harris III with Barton Green) Reviewer: Janice S. Garey *****5 Stars
I love the BIG positive message pulled out of this small package of a book. I would make this a ten star book if I could.
Harris III uses the truth of God's Word to speak into the lies of Satan's deceptions perpetrated upon our earthly world. The author understands thoroughly how deception works because of his performing art. He has a great platform from which to discuss deception and illusion not only in the physical realm but also in the spiritual realm.
So many in our world today are grasping onto and following deceptions presented by Satan and his helpers and foregoing the blessings received through believing in the truth of God's word. People are trying to live out the illusions of the better life, the more exciting life, the all under control of the self life, and even the person as god life. They are living a lie that is exposed by God's Word. They are trading eternal life and the joy found in Christ for the deceitfulness placed before them for the moment. Harris III reaches out to all who are under the influence of Satan's lies and says enough of this evil.
I appreciate the brevity of this message for today's reading population. The presentation is thorough and succinct. I like to donate books to Christian Library International which sends books into the prison system. This would be an ideal book to use for such donation to various ministries that reach out to those who have been captured in the worst ways by the deceitfulness of the world and have broken laws in the hope for "more." This would also be an excellent study for youth groups as a deterrant message that might help the youth to stay out of "more" troubles.
Thanks to bookfun.org and the author for supplying this book to me in exchange for an honest review. I want to see this book in the hands of many who are in need of its relevant message for these times. I think this volume would be excellent paired with The Screwtape Letters which is fictional but covers some of the same ground. That would make for an awesome Bible study
A short but powerful read by illusionist Harris III.
Where does this desire for more come from? When is enough enough? Is this wanting more and better something new? As we learn in this wonderful read it starts way back with Lucifer and his worry of God's 'mudman'-Adam being 'more' than he and the angels. He was so good at his deception he took many of God's angels with him, down the slippery slope and out of God's good grace and heaven.
What is the one trick satan has up his sleeve? "For those who fail to recognize his entangling ways, the deception works very time; for his ruse is the illusion that the things we value most, will in a puff of smoke, disappear. Simply put, his only trick is fear. Pg. 14
Through a variety of Old Testament stories: Job, Adam and Eve, Esau and Jacob we see satan at his best, but he is no match for God and in each and every situation we see God's hand rise above and come out victorious, even to the point of sending His only Son for us.
Satan, even tries to take Jesus down. He was able to turn the heads of many angels and bring them to his deceptive dark side, and now here was Jesus on earth as a human, and we know how easy it is, and always has been to cause us to fear. He met his match in Jesus. Did Jesus argue with him? No, Jesus simply quoted God's word right back to him. A very good reminder that we need to hide His word in our hearts so that we too will be able to face satan and his unending deceptions.
Scripture passages are used not only as basis of story but also to point out specifics and at the end of each chapter there are questions to get you thinking and applying what was just read in the chapter. I know you will be pleasantly surprised with some of the ways the lessons are presented and come away feeling you have read a large volume on the illusion of more, and realize just how short a read it was. It is that powerful. PIck it up today and see for yourself. You won't be able to put it down.
I was given this book by bookfun.org in exchange for an honest review and that is precisely what you have just read.
How many of us truly are content with what we have? How many times have we said, “If only I had more of this, or more of that then I would be truly happy.” In this short but powerful book, Harris III shows us just how Satan uses the illusion of more to trick us and blind us and ultimately bind us. Starting with Adam and Eve who had everything and being made in the image of God were already like God, began to believe the great deceiver that what they had was not enough. Harris goes on to explain how Satan is a master of tricks even in the heavenly realm getting a third of the angels to fall with him. Using Bible stories and scripture, he points out the tricks that were used to deceive and those who withstood deception and why. And ultimately the provision of what Jesus has done and what He became for us. At the end of each chapter are questions for you to ask yourself. I think this would make a great personal devotion or to use as a family devotion. He gave me a lot to think on and in some ways a new way to see a Bible truth. I think the cover sums up the book nicely. The side of the apple we are looking at looks so shiny and good, when in all reality it is nothing but rotted and will make us very sick. The author is an illusionist and has a DVD movie out that I plan on looking into. I received this book from The Book Club Network, Inc. (TBCN) and the opinions are my own.
I had the privilege of reading The Illusion of More by Harris III. I have to admit, it wasn’t what I was expecting. I thought it would be a book about learning to be content with living with less from a Biblical perspective but it was so much more instead. I am so glad I chose to read this book and have gotten so much more out of it than just learning how to live with less. It’s a story depicting the battle between satan and Jesus, with Jesus being the ultimate victor.
It opened my eyes to looking at what is really happening when we’re tempted and who and how strong the tempter is. However, it gives hope to all believers because Christ is much stronger than anything satan can hurl at us and that comes through loud and clear.
Absolutely loved the book and it would appeal to everyone - men, women, Bible studies, small groups, or independent Bible studies. Great read.

A master illusionist shows you what is behind the illusion: the illusion of wanting more, and the mistake that it will make you happy. What a great analogy to how sin works to deceive us into believing “the grass is greener on the other side”. This short but in-depth book will open your eyes to what the world is trying to deceive us into believing: that more money, more clothes, bigger house, etc, will make you happy. This is full of biblical examples of how Satan give us illusions of happiness only to end in sorrow. Each chapter ends with a “reflections” question area to dig deeper and help you find the truth. This is wonderfully written for anyone in today’s world. The author encourages us with verses and truths as to how to overcome the disillusion of illusion. It ends with a wonderful summary of an overview to wrap it all up and tie it all together. I highly recommend this for churches and bible studies! I received this book for an honest review.
When I first received The Illusion of More, I wondered why an Illusionist had written a Christian Book, but after I began reading the book, I knew why he did. We always want more, more money, more things, more success, more satisfaction, and more happiness. We can’t be content with what God has given us but why are we like this?
Master Illusionist Harris III will answer that question and many more in his book, The Illusion of More. Using the story of Adam and Eve, he shows has how we are easily tricked into thinking that something is always going to fill that void. I definitely recommend reading this book!
Thank you to Bookfun.org for providing me with a copy of this book for my honest review.
I loved the sections at the end of each chapter to answer the reflection questions. From the beginning (Adam & Eve) people have wanted more. There is definitely an illusion of more that we have as a society. We think that we need what others have and we strive to have the best of everything. However if we took the time to enjoy what we have, then we would know that more does not equal better. This is a great book and it is great for when you get jealous of others, or you spend beyond your means. I am giving this book a 5/5. I was given a copy to review from The Book Club Network Inc., However all opinions are my own. I received this book from bookfun.org in return for my honest opinion.
More More More! We strive to work hard so we can have all the things we want. When is more enough? I really enjoyed this book and the message it brought of wanting more. It is a really easy read that you can knock out in no time at just over 200+ pages. I highly recommend this book for any Christian or anyone who is struggling in this area.
I received a copy of this book from the Book Club Network in exchange for my honest review.
The Illusion of More is a small book that packs a punch. It definitely makes you think. The author goes all the way back to the story of Adam and Eve to explain the desire for more. Through the use of Bible verses and examples, he explains how Satan will use deception to our disadvantage. I definitely recommend reading this book! I received this book from the Book Club Network in exchange for my honest opinion.
Harris pulls the curtain back on the illusions that haunt us and keep us from seeing the "real more" already in our life. He lays out a plan for battling those illusions and finding happiness and faith in a world bent on the accumulation of more at the expense of everything of value. I read an advanced reviewer copy of this book.
