This brilliant new hardcover version of Aesop's timeless tales offers a fresh take on the classic 1909 Hodder and Stoughton edition. Newly reset and decorated with ornate borders and running heads, this edition features more than 300 of the legendary fabulist's brief but pithy morality tales. The stories are further embellished by 23 full-page color images and numerous black-and-white drawings by illustrator Edward J. Detmold, the famed Victorian artist who was highly influenced by the traditional Japanese style, the works of Albrecht Dürer, and the burgeoning Art Nouveau movement.
If you are looking for a collection of short, easy-to-read stories for children, look no further! This anthology of traditional fables does exactly what the original stories set out to do: give commentary on human nature in bite-sized pieces, made more interesting by the (primarily animal) characters contained within.
Another book of fables. Beautful, but simpler. I didn't have these read to me as a child. I am not sure with a quick skim, I can ascertain what they are trying to teach. Recommended.
A book that should be owned by everyone. Stories which are base of any story and explanation of different life events. I got it as a gift and very happy and proud to have this edition.
