Antonia McManus analyses the contributions that Ministers for Education made to the Irish education system between the years 1919 and 1999. Covering the social, economic and political realities of the time, and taking in the involvement of the OECD, what emerges is a picture of how Irish education has been shaped over the 20th century.
This is really well researched but at times the writing/editing isn’t always fantastic. There’s a couple of spelling/grammar errors and one case a significant enough name is mistaken which is quite noticeable but the biggest issue I encountered was the repeated repetition of particular names without any reintroduction outside the first chapter(s) making it necessary to keep a list to hand of all the relevant characters when a slight variation in the style would’ve made the book far easier to follow.
As these issues are more down to editorial assistance and this book is an academic book likely produced on a budget, these hiccups are understandable and not overly significant in the grand scheme of things.
