Over 100 million Americans suffer from chronic pain. Lower back pain alone accounts for more than $50 billion of lost work time and worker’s compensation claims annually. And let’s consider the fact that there are 600,000 knee replacement surgeries performed each year in the United States, and sadly, 20 percent of those patients end up with chronic pain after surgery. The normal “solutions” we’ve been taught involve seeking out more doctors, surgeries, injections, and medications, all of which have a place in healing. But when it comes to chronic pain, conventional medicine isn’t getting the job done. So what can we do? In The Tapping Solution for Pain Relief, which builds on the information contained in the New York Times bestseller The Tapping Solution, Nick Ortner presents a startling alternative. He lays out a step-by-step plan that teaches people how to use tapping, or EFT (emotional freedom techniques), to reduce or eliminate chronic pain. Looking at the scientific research surrounding pain, stress, and tapping, he opens readers eyes to just how powerful tapping can be, and then outlines tips and techniques to address pain in both the short and long term. Nick guides readers on a journey that begins on the surface—tapping to address the pain itself—and moves to the deeper issues that often affect pain. With easy-to-follow tapping scripts and exercises to guide readers into their pasts, Nick helps them heal the emotional pain and underlying beliefs that often keep people stuck. He also addresses topics that many people don’t know are associated with chronic pain, such as:
Releasing the past Creating personal boundaries Dealing with toxic relationships Clearing resistance to change Understanding the power of a diagnosis Working through anger There are many different ways the brain and body can create, increase, and prolong pain. In these pages, Nick helps readers understand what is causing their pain and provides them with the tools to achieve complete and lasting pain relief. But it’s about more than just pain relief; it’s about empowering readers to take back their bodies, so they can live the life they most desire.
NICOLAS ORTNER is the CEO of The Tapping Solution, a company with a mission to bring simple, effective, natural healing into the mainstream with the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) or “tapping.” Tapping is a healing modality based on ancient Chinese acupressure and modern psychology.
Nick’s goal is to empower people to create healthy, financially abundant and stress-free lives through his books, films, CDs, online events and speaking engagements attended by participants from all over the world.
His bestselling book, “The Tapping Solution: A Revolutionary System for Stress-Free Living,” was published by Hay House in 2013. Prior to that, Nick created and produced the breakthrough documentary film, "The Tapping Solution,” which follows ten people who used tapping to overcome tremendous challenges, such as 30 years of chronic back pain, fibromyalgia, insomnia, devastating grief and more. Both Nick’s book and film document real and extraordinary results that have inspired tens of thousands to follow suit by successfully applying tapping to their lives.
Nick has also produced first-of-their kind online programs that teach easy, effective ways to apply tapping to anything limiting a person’s life or health. Some noteworthy examples are: The “Tapping World Summit,” a free, worldwide online event that just celebrated its fifth successful season and has been attended by over 500,000 people (www.tappingworldsummit.com); the “Tapping Insiders Club,” a monthly membership program filled with articles, interviews, and videos with experts from the tapping field (www.tappinginsidersclub.com); and Nick’s popular seven-week EFT coaching programs, which cover common issues such as finances, weight loss and more.
A dynamic speaker, Nick has presented breakthrough live tapping sessions and has shared the stage with speakers such as Wayne Dyer, Louise Hay, Jack Canfield, Bob Proctor, Lynne McTaggart, Dr. Joseph Mercola, and others.
Nick and the Tapping Solution team are committed to spreading tapping throughout the world, and particularly to supporting its revolutionary and world-changing usage. They’ve raised over $250,000 for tapping-related charities such as ProjectLight: Rwanda, which aids genocide victims in that country (http://projectlightrwanda.com/), The Veterans Stress Project, for veterans with PTSD (http://www.stressproject.org/), and You Can Thrive! for women with cancer (http://youcanthrive.org/). In 2013, Nick created The Tapping Solution Foundation, which has already raised over $100,000 for charitable work in Newtown, CT to support the community after the tragic shootings at the Sandy Hook Elementary School.
Nick lives in Newtown, CT with his wife, Brenna and is already working on his next book.
A surprisingly simple solution for chronic pain relief. Tapping is an application of Emotional Freedom Techniques, it's kind of wuwu, but it's free, and there's no risks or downsides and this book thoroughly documents numerous case studies of it (sometimes instantaneous) working wonders, providing badly needed relief for those suffering from treatment-resistant chronic pain.
Because of the science done and the abundance of powerful anecdotal evidence, tapping deserves a place in the biohacker's tool chest. If you're struggling with pain you would want to stack tapping with other holistic healing hacks like red light therapy, HRV training, and Dispenza-style epigenetic meditation sessions, you could do all four in one sitting. You would also want to use some natural medicines for pain management like CBD and possibly Kratom.
I rated the book four stars Because, frankly, it didn't work much for us. My wife has been struggling with an odd pain issue in her leg. We tried the tapping technique a number of times and it barely helped her. I also developed an irritating case of pink-eye for a few days, tried tapping, and the relief was just barely noticeable. So it doesn't work for everybody, but I can't say that we found it totally useless.
My other criticism is that it's not well-sourced, there were no footnotes to the studies the author referenced, which is why I link above to clinical trials done with tapping. Authors, if you're going to write a book about homeopathic, alternative medicine please include ample links to the science in your books, otherwise, it seems like rank pseudoscience. The hospital-pharmaceutical-industrial complex would love for the regulating agencies to make things like tapping illegal. If they had their druthers, every homeopathic practitioner and alternative-healing author would be thrown in a gulag to rot, let's not give them ammunition by skimping on footnotes to credible science.
Bottom line: If you struggle with chronic pain, read the book, and try tapping.
I listened to this on audio book. There are some good discussions in the chapters, though I didn’t quite finish as I felt it became a bit unbelievable.
I think this could be a great and easily accessible self help book for those looking to start shifting chronic pain, but...
As someone who is very scientifically minded I was very disappointed by the lack of explanation behind the tapping element of EFT. It feels like the tapping could be omitted and the 'therapy' part would work just as well. And honestly? Whilst the psychological element is mostly pretty sound, it is definitely just an amalgamation of other techniques and theories (pendulation, explicit memory reprocessing, IFS, somatic experiencing, etc) all of which are complex enough to each have many books written about them, and which require much more care and attention than this book provides. Hence, I think this is helpful as a self help book but not for anyone actually looking to learn about EFT or honestly learn anything lol.
I'm skeptical about the training required to be certified in EFT due to the above, but as this wasn't meant as a training manual it's hard to know for sure. All I know is that as someone who reads and researches a lot in the area of somatic healing and trauma informed therapeutic approaches, this seems a very messy one.
There were really helpful and enjoyable tidbits though, and it was interesting to read the 'amalgamation' of therapeutic approaches that I do genuinely love, applied to chronic pain. Would be a 2 star but I see the value in it as an accessible self help book.
When I first read about the tapping solution, I thought, "What is this weird tapping thing, and how is it supposed to relieve my chronic pain?" However, as I started practicing the guided meditations presented in the book, I was amazed to see my pain levels gradually decrease. This made me realize the profound connection between suppressed emotions and chronic pain, which often manifests later in life. This book is truly amazing and introduces a revolutionary concept. I wish I had discovered it earlier, but I believe this is the right time for me. I am now eager to read all the books in this series.
Loved this book! Being one who deals with chronic, severe pain, I'm very excited about implementing this great book on a daily basis. The little I have done so far is definitely giving me hope to help diminish the pain I have, or possibly alleviate my pain. Thank you, Nick Ortner, for this tremendous resource. I think everyone should read this book.
If you don't have any experience with tapping, you might think it's a bit odd...and it is. But the thing is, Nick Ortner and his team at the Tapping Solution have nailed a powerful technique that I have used over and over again for quick pain relief.
The first time you use tapping and notice a difference, you'll be a convert!
This is truly a great self-help book because he walks you through how to do tapping from a variety of approaches: focusing on emotions, symptoms, events or limiting beliefs. He also adds plenty of testimonials to give you hope that you too can be healed. Fascinating stuff!
I have used this form of pain relief years ago, and it does work. I think I shall have to give it another go and allocate some time to it. Clear to understand.
I listened on audiobook, and as somebody who has been dealing with chronic pain I was so intrigued. I’ve been getting into EFT and tapping, what a beautiful and effective way to help with pain relief. I am so grateful to Nick Ortner for validating my feelings in this book and providing an alternate method to ease my pain!
I am hooked on tapping. I have a lot of layers to get through but I can feel them peeling away. This stuff works. I've experienced so may wonderful things with tapping.
I was half way through the e book and then moved to the audio book. Much better! Something about Nicks voice that encourages me to keep going. I believe in tapping. I have felt it work, this book is a great tool to bring tapping into your life.
Easy to use tools and stories of successful use of tapping. Will definitely put tapping into my tool chest for managing stress and changing old mindsets.
