The Secret Female Hormone: How Testosterone Replacement Can Change Your Life

Rate this book
" The Secret Female Hormone is a must read for women today! Hormones should always be evaluated in unity, and testosterone is almost always overlooked. The authors tell the truth about how hormone imbalances truly affect women - not only their energy, their vitality and their libido but also their family relationships and self-esteem. This book will be a resource for women for years to come!" - Marcelle Pick, author of Is It Me or My Hormones? and The Core Balance Diet

Leading experts show why testosterone hormone imbalance could be the vital connecting factor in a wide variety of health issues for women in midlife.

You know the experiences all too well. You can’t sleep, so you start your day feeling exhausted. Seemingly overnight, you can’t remember names, places, appointments—things you could previously recite at the drop of a hat. You want to be more active, but you have zero energy for that. And sex? Forget it!

By now, you’ve probably been told this is "normal," or that it’s the "natural" course of aging. And you might even believe it, because so many women approaching midlife have the exact same symptoms. In fact, millions of women worldwide are undiagnosed and untreated for hormone imbalance deficiency.

As one of the country’s leading experts on hormonal balance—and as a woman who experienced these symptoms herself—Dr. Kathy Maupin has identified a debilitating and overlooked health testosterone deficiency syndrome, or TDS. Most people associate testosterone with men, but it’s one of the most vital hormones in women, and one of the first hormones that women begin to lose as they enter their 40s. And Dr. Maupin’s own research has shown that the symptoms of aging—fatigue, memory loss, moodiness, low libido, and so much more—are initiated and accelerated by testosterone loss.

In this book, Dr. Maupin and therapist Brett Newcomb show how testosterone replacement can radically improve your life. They share the history and background of hormone replacement therapy, the latest research on treatment options, as well

• Tips for dealing with mood swings, changes in sex drive, and maintaining healthy relationships
• Surprising information on the long-term effects and health risks of testosterone loss
• Common myths and misconceptions regarding estrogen and testosterone replacement therapy
• Questionnaires to help you determine your individual hormone deficiencies
• Real stories and personal experiences

Dr. Maupin’s patients share clear, practical, and easy-to-use, this authoritative guide sheds light on the importance of testosterone and will help you reclaim your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

Wow what an impact this book had on me. Testosterone, I didn't know that when you have low hormone imbalances how it affects women, loss of vitality, fatigue, low self esteem and libido and that after going through the menopause which has a traumatic on some women with up and down mood swings and hot flushes, you also have to deal with weigh gain, PMS, migraines and now there is actually something out there you can take to help.

if your going through the menopause this book is the one for you, its brilliant, fascinating, explains about conventional hormone treatments available but there is also a pot at the end of the rainbow called Testosterone.

Its a well organised book, packed with information, identifies and explains about testosterone deficiency symptoms and risk and benefits, shows how this debilitating hormone imbalance can impact a woman's life and is focused on the central hormone in the aging system.

Excelente libro

Very good book with pertinent information about female hormones and menopause.
However, found this lacking in the sense that it does not really address the issue of women who are dealing with hormonal imbalance and hormone-sensitive cancers. Yes, testosterone looks like the magic bullet to cure all female ills at menopause, but how does it play with your body if you have had estrogen-sensitive breast cancer, or progesterone-receptor affected cancers? How safe is it for you then? In that sense, reading about health and hormones is a great way to put your foot forward, but with anything health-related, especially something as finicky and sensitive as hormones, the best bet is still to go consult a doctor first and then do anything.

Another book I wish I had read when it was first published in 2014. Lots of important information for women as they move into their late 30's and beyond. In the conclusion of the book the author writes: "The tides of medicine change slowly and with great resistance, but they are changing. Right now, we are at the crest of a wave in women's health that will move the tide of medicine forward toward more knowledge and greater capacity to make preventive hormone replacement the standard of care." Fortunately, it is now ten years later and hormone replacement therapy is much more accepted but I don't think it is yet viewed as the standard of care - at least not among all medical professionals.

I loved the information in this book but as a person who used pellets for a few years but became frustrated with the waxing and waning effects of the pellets, I resented the fact that the author insinuated that the only way to get testosterone and estrogen is from pellets.

I am a big fan of HRT but I encourage friends/family to do their own research and find the best way for them to do HRT. There are many options.

a good foundation to read if you’re considering T therapy

Lots of good information for women considering Hrt in conjunction with testosterone. The author is American so some of the information doesn’t apply for UK readers. But overall, lots of useful information.

Great information. I learned info I hadn't heard about from other books which was positive. My only frustration was pushing the pellet therapy for testosterone. I get that it's the most effective but some people can't use it.

Very enlightening

I wish I had known all of this earlier in life. All women need to read this. We don't have to get old and fragile.

I have learned so much from this book. I now feel confident to have intelligent conversations with my doctor about my hormone health and politely call them out when I think they are wrong.

I was blown away by the information in this book, and I'm seriously glad I read it.

I haven't quite hit menopause, but it's not too far off, so one of the first things I'm going to do it get my testosterone levels tested. I'm amazed at how one simple test can cure all kinds of symptoms, that usually have to be endured or you get a handful of different meds to deal with.

This is a very important book for women to read.
