Judy Blume spent her childhood in Elizabeth, New Jersey, making up stories inside her head. She has spent her adult years in many places doing the same thing, only now she writes her stories down on paper. Adults as well as children will recognize such Blume titles as: Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret; Blubber; Just as Long as We're Together; and the five book series about the irrepressible Fudge. She has also written three novels for adults, Summer Sisters; Smart Women; and Wifey, all of them New York Times bestsellers. More than 80 million copies of her books have been sold, and her work has been translated into thirty-one languages. She receives thousands of letters a year from readers of all ages who share their feelings and concerns with her.
Judy received a B.S. in education from New York University in 1961, which named her a Distinguished Alumna in 1996, the same year the American Library Association honored her with the Margaret A. Edwards Award for Lifetime Achievement. Other recognitions include the Library of Congress Living Legends Award and the 2004 National Book Foundation's Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters.
She is the founder and trustee of The Kids Fund, a charitable and educational foundation. She serves on the boards of the Author's Guild; the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators; the Key West Literary Seminar; and the National Coalition Against Censorship.
Judy is a longtime advocate of intellectual freedom. Finding herself at the center of an organized book banning campaign in the 1980's she began to reach out to other writers, as well as teachers and librarians, who were under fire. Since then, she has worked tirelessly with the National Coalition Against Censorship to protect the freedom to read. She is the editor of Places I Never Meant To Be, Original Stories by Censored Writers.
Judy has completed a series of four chapter books -- The Pain & the Great One -- illustrated by New Yorker cartoonist James Stevenson. She has co-written and produced a film adaptation of her book Tiger Eyes, and is currently writing a new novel.
Judy and her husband George Cooper live on islands up and down the east coast. They have three grown children and one grandchild.

The best books ever! Perfect for 4-6th graders! Wonderfully written about real topics and ideas that everyone may wonder about or have questions about or may personally experience during their adolescence.

As a child I loved these books and could relate to them. It is what made me a reader! As an adult and a teacher I felt good about recommending these to students. I also felt comfortable using these in small group settings.

Judy Blume will always be one of my favorite authors.

I'm probably not even aware of all the ways that Judy Blume shaped my worldview. I devoured all her books while growing up, and I'm so happy and amazed at how well she's stood the test of time. Re-reading these books was like visiting an old friend you haven't seen in years and realizing you can pick up right where you left off.

I have loved Judy Blume ever since I was 10. The librarian always kept them behind the counter because they were naughty!

Judy Blume, it's not the end of the world
by Judy Blume

In "Judy Blume its not the end of the world", Karen is going through a major change in her life, her parents' divorce. Her father moved out of the house, and her mother is glad, her brother is a mess and her little sister doesn't know what in one million years is happening. Karen can't bring herself to talk to anyone about it, not even her best friend. She just wants everything to be alright again. She thinks that bringing them altogether will make things different and make her mom and dad realize that they really do love each other. After a family compromise that makes everyone happy and more willing to take in things about the divorce, Her mother and Father spend a little more time together and the kids soon understand.

I recommend this book to Readers who have had experience of a divorce through a relationship, or whomever likes realistic fiction and can relate to this in some way. At times this book got a little sad just because the parents are going through a divorce, but then around the corner happy examples and parts of the story would pop up. This book was really well written in my opinion and had parts throughout the story that young readers can relate to even if they haven't gone through a divorce with parents or relatives. Once again, I recommend this book to readers with experience so they can relate and realize there are many different bright ways to handle something like this.

These books still hold up. I almost forgot how Judy Blume brings real teen worries into her stories in a a way that makes you feel a little voyeuristic but totally part of the story. My girls love them as much as I did as a girl.
