Whew. I'm so glad this is over. I can honestly say if I were not reading this book as a mini bookclub book, I would have DNF'd after the second chapter. It reads like a YA, only it's not YA. The book is incredibly slow and all of the characters are flat and immature. I found none of them even remotely likeable. Every single adult character sounds like they're living in high school. When you flash back 20 years, they sound the same. It's like they never grew up. There is gore and violence, which is fine, but it's almost like it's just thrown in there for the fun of it. Some places it doesn't make sense. As short as this book is, it could have been shorter. Some of the stuff repeats itself. We get it Venus doesn't like her father. I got that the first chapter, really got it the second, and by the third I wanted to throw my kindle out the window. It doesn't matter how the story ends, I don't need to be told her childhood chapter after chapter after chapter. Once is enough. Arthur has a one track mindset, and says the same thing at the worst possible moments. He also repeats himself over and over. He might as well be a 16 year old boy. The definition of thriller is an exciting plot, typically involving crime or espionage. Exciting plot? No. Crime. Yes. Espionage? I guess. For me this wasn't what I'd consider a thriller. There was no plot twist ever. Take the book for exactly what the title is and expect nothing more or less.
⭐️ could have been a DNF 10/10 don't recommend ⭐️⭐️ It was meh ⭐️⭐️⭐️ it was good but... ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ really liked it. Doesn't live rent free but comes to visit every now and then. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Obsessed! It will live rent free in my head forever and always
First, I would like to just say thank you to Spencer Guerrero for allowing me the opportunity to read an advanced review copy of his new book.
I am happy to see that there is a lot less “he said, she said, I said” in this book. The conversation flows much better. I’ve noticed that the author has a unique style: he tells you the ending of the book in the title, but takes you on a deep journey through side characters to make you question it. There was a lot of significant characters in this which made it a little hard to keep track of. Also, I think there was a lot of repetitive introspection by Venus that could’ve been cut back. Overall, I enjoyed the ride. Keep writing, Spencer!!

Venus is a true crime junkie, helping bring crimes into the light and catch the killers through detective work and anonymous tips. However, things get personal when her mother becomes the victim. Venus believes she knows who the killer is, but can she prove it in enough time to save her own life?
This is a fast-paced, unputdownable psychological thriller. Your heart breaks for Venus as she deals with both what is currently happening to her family and her childhood trauma. Guerrero makes excellent use of flashbacks to add layers of detail and intrigue to the story. Venus is a strong female lead, and I loved her tenacity and resilience. She simply does not stop. The story takes many unexpected twists and turns and will leave you breathless as you race towards the stunning conclusion. Guerrero really knocked this one out of the park!
Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily, and all views expressed are my own.
This book had me jumping, screaming and crying. I didn't see that coming. Great job Spencer! What a great read. Yes, some slow parts but excellent. The character building was great. This plot was so good. Adding you to my favorite author. Never saw that ending coming.
Easy four for me!! **PERFECT** read for this time of year!
Thank you so much to Spencer for giving me my very first stab at an ARC in exchange for an honest review!! Reviews for people you adore are always hard! There is the fear you may not like it and the fear that you will be bias. I stand firm that all my reviews will be 100% honest and I hope both authors and followers in my groups will appreciate that! I forced myself to wait several days after completing this book to think through majors points in effort to give my most honest review.. so here it is!
This is a newer author who is developing his writing skills at such a fast pace. Having now read two of his books and enjoying them both I feel I can speak to his growth. I really liked the main character in this book and felt very invested in her journey, which is key for me. A well build plot is important too and this book did not disappoint. There were so many moments where I suspected several characters of being involved. Without revealing too much I will say there was a lot of deception going on and few are innocent. I loved the thrills, tricks, and twists at the end. If you enjoy a thriller with a little creepiness during this time of year this is definitely for you. A quick read that is easy to follow and a lot of fun. Face pace plot with a lot of creativity. Also, the main character is a true crime junkie so bonus points :)
Objectively, I did find some of the dialogue a little off. There were a couple of small moments here and there where I thought, people don't talk like that, but it did not hurt the story at all for me. It did not hinder my experience just something I picked up on. I can't wait to watch this author grow even more. I will be buying a physical copy of this book for myself to support the author and I look forward to future work by him!
Okay, so i absolutely loved this book! I also sobbed my heart out and needed a moment to process it.
I was caught in the story from the beginning! I love how the author used flashbacks to add to the narrative and give more detail, which helps build a great picture but also understanding of the characters. Everything will have you go on so many directions, noone is safe from suspicion. And dear, ohhh dear, there are some serious unexpected twists. It had me guessing all the way through! A psychological thriller with murder mystery, serial killers, interesting characters and many, many secrets. A real rollercoaster and i totally recommend it! 'Monsters never win!'
I also loved, loved, loved the main character! Venus is a badass! She's a strong woman, who knows herself inside out and stands for what she knows to be the truth, and doesn't stop until she gets her way. She's also someone who has gone through so much trauma in her life, yet she remained resilient and kept fighting.
First of all, thank you for the ARC in return for my review!
This was easily a 5 🌟 for me! Took me 2 days to read, wasn't confusing or hard to follow, and definitely a great storyline!
This book had me hooked at the beginning. I had so many different ideas on what was really going on, and it kept me guessing throughout the book.
The iconic, "I let out a breath I didn't realize I was holding," literally made me laugh out loud, and I had to highlight and message him about it 🤣 IMO, no psychological thriller is complete without this statement....ever!!
I was very surprised at the ending and would not be upset if there was a sequel on Venus' future and her future mental status and taising a child and breaking the cycle... good or bad 🤔

Spencer Guerrero is a great fellow author and friend. While I had issues with his first book, this was definitely an improvement. I had some questions at first, but they were eventually explained which gives it points. I also felt this book was better written and the characters were more complex than the last.
What I loved about both of Guerrero’s books was how hard they were to put down, which is great. Some thrillers are too slow to start and when something finally happens, it feels too disappointing. In this book, something’s always happening. One note I would give is to do more showing and less telling throughout. Regardless, I look forward to reading more!
Thank you Spencer for letting me read the arc for an honest review.
I’m speechless... this book had me guessing like crazy… and wow oh wow was I wrong.
Venus… was such a strong and stubborn main character. I yelled at her so much 😂😂 but I completely got where she was coming from. She did it for her little sister!
If you enjoy Frieda McFadden books… I think you’ll enjoy this one!
Be prepared to be in your edge of your seat… trying to figure out what the h}11 is going on. 😂😂
It is a compulsive, gripping, and suspenseful read. This is the second book I've read by this author, I enjoyed both immensely The author builds the story brilliantly. I was addicted to the very first page. There were a lot of twists and turns, complex and well developed characters, and an intricate, well executed ending.
This is the second book I have read by Spencer Guerrero and like the first one, it was a super fast read and one I couldn't put down until it was done. I easily finished this in one setting on a Sunday afternoon.
Venus is a true crime reporter and has recently helped capture a hometown serial killer. Things hit close to home when her mom, sister and aunt are all brutally murdered. Venus sets out to find the killer and she has her eyes set on her main suspect....her dad.
This book had me busting out all the emotions - anger, sadness, helplessness, suspense, anxiety...augh. They were there. Many times I thought I had things figured out. Many times I was mad at the direction the book was going but then BAM. Holy crap. Things I did not see coming and the gasp I gasped at a certain part.
The only reason this is not five stars for me is because I really don't understand three things. One...how can there be SO many murders and serial killers in one small town yet everyone is kind of nonchalant about it. Two the police there...are they just dumb? They don't seem to be very involved in trying to find any of these killers. They don't follow up on leads or really seem too concered. At one time, Venus is talking to a Detective about her uncle's death and HE says to HER "I really hope you catch that piece of sh*t killing your family." Ummmm excuse me? Why is that HER job? Isn't it yours?! And three....why so many "V" names? I was so confused at first lol
Overall, a fantastic read. Looking forward to reading more from Spencer.
3.5 star ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ 💫 I knew it, I knew it! From early on in My Father Is a Serial Killer, I felt pretty confident about who the killer was and what secrets were lurking behind the main character’s family. Spencer Guerrero does a great job dropping hints and building suspense, and while I thought I had everything figured out, the twist about losing Arthur genuinely caught me off guard. I was convinced he’d swoop in to save the day, but Guerrero had other plans, making for a bittersweet surprise. While I didn’t enjoy this installment quite as much as the first book in the series, I have to admit the writing has noticeably improved. Guerrero’s style feels more refined, and the pacing (for the most part) kept me turning the pages. The ending did drag a bit, and I wished the resolution had come a little sooner. Overall, this was an enjoyable and suspenseful read. Fans of psychological thrillers and dark family secrets will find plenty to keep them hooked. I’m looking forward to seeing where the series goes next!

I read My Son is a Serial Killer by the same author already and liked it. This book is great as well. This time, the adult daughter, Venus, has experienced a number of recent deaths. Her mother was murdered and the head was severed. As the family comes together, Venus’s father joins them at the house. There is some bad blood between the family and the father. Venus is a crime-blogger and continues to roam her city streets to find crimes to post about. Her husband hates it as she puts herself at a crime scene. Venus arrives at a new crime scene and finds it is her aunt and sister – beheaded as well. She begins suspecting her father as there were a lot of clues from the past that make her suspicious. Is she next? Venus tries to discover evidence and catch the killer. It is very exciting. I love psychological thrillers. I received an ARC copy from the author and this is my honest review.
My Father is a Serial Killer is a fast pace, thriller of a chilling story of a daughter who thinks her father is a serial killer. The story follows Venus, a true crime blogger, who is on a mission to uncover the truth about who murdered her family members in a heinous way. Venus follows the trail marking off each suspect as she goes. This book had me hooked from the very beginning and the twists and turns throughout the story kept me on the edge of my seat. My mind would picture every action as I read it. This book was suspenseful, action packed, and chilling and will have the readers continuously turning the pages.
I did this one as an audiobook and so glad I did. The main character does true crime stories on social media so I felt listening to it helped get into that world so to speak. Leave it to Spencer to hit you with so twists that come out of no where, shock you, but also make so much sense. I read so books where a twist is added and it literally makes zero sense. But this one I felt made perfect sense even tho it left me with an aching jaw from hanging open. Some scenes can be a bit graphic as a fair warning but oh man. it just shows you how twisted the character truly is, despite him trying to give off a diff facade.
My Father Is A Serial Killer by Spencer Guerrero 🌟🌟🌟🌟 This is a fun Psychological Thriller story filled with lots of twists and turns!! The book is action packed and exciting! It kept me on my toes and hooked me in quickly. I also enjoyed the ending a lot!! Venus is trying to figure out the truth of who killed several of her family members. She has her suspicions about her father, but takes on the role of trying to figure out who the serial killer is. I listened to the audio version and enjoyed it! I’ve read several books from this author and they have all been enjoyable and intense thrillers!!
Thank you, Spencer Guerrero for allowing me to have an advanced reader copy of this book. This book had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. So many twists and turns. It kept me engaged, and had me rooting for the main character. I loved it. This author really knows how to write a book, and have you get invested in the book and characters This is my second book from the author, and he is now on my favorite authors list. Read this book! You’ll love it! Monsters Never Win!
received an ARC but wanted to wait to write my review as not to be rude. another dnf by this author from me. considering other reviews, i'm sure the story itself is great, like the other one. but personally i cannot get past the writing style. it doesn't feel like it was written by a professional nor edited. i'm an extremely visual reader and it was completely impossible for me to imagine anything that was going on here. i wish this author the best of luck but after two books that i couldn't stand, i won't be attempting again. thank you for the opportunity to read and hope for the best.
I just finished Spencer Guerrero Author My Father is a Serial Killer. 4/5 stars! Thank you for the ARC Spencer!
This story follows Venus, a true crime blogger, who thinks her father has mu*dered her mother, aunt, and sister by beheading them. Venus follows the trail as any true crime fan would, marking off suspects as she goes and she has a clock ticking...
This is the second book of Spencer's I've read and his writing style has gotten deeper in this one compared to My Son is a Murderer. Don't get me wrong, I really liked that one as well. It seems the characters in this one are deeper detailed though which I very much enjoyed. This one was full of twists and turns and had me second guessing my thoughts. Just when I thought I had figured out who was responsible, he threw in another twist and I was wrong. Definitely a great story that will have you guessing what's reality and what's all made up!
I was an arc reader for this book. I absolutely enjoyed it. From the first page I was hooked! Very well written and I can’t wait to read more from the author in the future!
You would think by the title of this book that you would have it figured out....but do you really? Maybe. Maybe not. If you're anything like me, you'll be second guessing yourself for the entire read. Spencer was able to take so many moving parts and intertwine them into a narrative that flowed easily. I felt immersed in this world: I could picture every action and hear the dialogue like I was watching it on a screen. A quick, thrilling, and suspenseful read that you won't regret.
First I want to thank you spencer for the ARC! This book was an easy, twisty psychological thriller I couldn’t put down once I started. Honestly at some points I think I started questioning my own sanity! Highly recommend it!
First of all thank you so so much to Spencer for my early copy of My Father Is A Serial Killer In exchange for my honest review.
A series of murders too close to home send Venus Duarte reeling and searching for answers. With a serial killer on the loose, Duarte thinks she knows who is behind it all, but does she really? And once she's uncovered the truth will she ever come back from it?
Another amazing knock-out! Might even like this one better than My Son Is A Murderer by Guerrero. The twists in this one were unbelievable. I really thought that I had this one figured out but it definitely was a shocker. If I could give this one a 6 out of 5 stars I would ! Loved it!!!!
Wow. The author is going to be on my list of favorites if he keeps up the good work. This is the second of his I’ve read and both hooked me early and wouldn’t let me go. I liked the characters in this book, although there were times I wanted to smack the MC. She was walking that thin line between brave and stupid. I also called the author a couple names when a character I liked didn’t make it to the end of the book. Definitely recommend this!
