A Wizard's Worth

Rate this book
So much to destroy, so little time.

Everleigh Clarkson thought embracing her identity as Las Vegas’s only wizard would cool supernatural tensions. But her problems have only begun. Sure, she and her friends might have stopped one arm of the mysterious vigilante group, Pandora’s Key, but their former troubles can’t compare to what the supernatural zealots are sparking next.

To make matters worse, Everleigh’s oldest and most trusted friend, Aithan Nomos, accidentally enacted a curse upon himself when he dared to love her. And everyone knows curses can’t be broken.

But Everleigh has never been one to surrender, and she’s not about to start now. Not with Pandora’s Key, nor with Aithan. And if she has to bring the entire city to its knees to make things right, she's absolutely prepared to try.

Continue Everleigh and Aithan's story today in A Wizard's Worth - Book #2 of the Wizard in Las Vegas Trilogy for clean romance, snarky banter, magical shenanigans, and a high-stakes adventure!

I think I love this one even more then book one! 😍🥰😍🥰

I went from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows, my heart broke for these characters and was wonderfully healed, I love characters and hate some with a fiery passion…this story was a real, true emotional rollercoaster of feels and angst for me! Everleigh, Aithan, and their friends stole my heart and I have no intention of asking for it back; they are all wonderful and amazing in their own ways and I really, really, REALLY hope all or most of them get their own stories because I NEEDS them, precious, I needs them all!! 🤗🤗

Everleigh continues to be one of my all time favorite female leads EVER, who both balances strength with vulnerability, is a girl while also being strong, and her determination never comes off as “girlboss power” which I can’t STAND, and all in all she’s a role model I would point every girl and woman to as an example of strength and grace and sheer stubborn determination done well without being stupid.

Aithan went through the wringer even more then in A Wizard Awakened and oh my gosh I felt so much for him. 😭😩 I both love and hate how the author wrote his feelings of isolation and loneliness, that desperation to grab onto anything to feel human again, the crash of despair and “what’s the point of it all?”, at the end of his fraying rope… I deeply felt his pain as I’ve felt this exact way many times and it HURT watching him go through this, but the joy on the other side was sooo worth it all, his relief such a balm to my aching heart.

And without giving too many spoilers, the cute couple vibes at the end? I. ATE. IT. UP! So good, so satisfying, so sweet and wholesome and precious and swoony…I could have died happy at the end, lol. Most adorable power couple ever—I REALLY hope we see lots of that dynamic in the final book! 🥰😍

You know what else I hope we see? King Kostas get his freaking butt kicked off a cliff; I hate his literal guts, I hate what he did to Aithan, I hate what he did to Everleigh, I hate what he does to everyone, I hate that he exists, I hate his manipulative hide, I hate him more then the actual villains in the Key (who I hate too, trust me, they’re AWFUL!), I hate him more then Satan, I HATE THIS FREAKING MANIPULATIVE MONSTER SO MUCH!!!!! HE NEEDS TO DIE OR BE DETHRONED, I DON’T CARE WHICH, IT JUST NEEDS TO BE SOON!!!! 😡😤🔥 *takes a deep breath* *let’s it out slowly* *starts muttering about what kind of knives would work best to carve up an elf king*

I love this book. I love these characters (not the villains, obviously). I love Everleigh and Aithan so much, they’ve catapulted to the top of my favorite couples and lead characters ever list.
This series is so good, even unfinished as of writing this review it’s up there with K. M. Shea’s Magiford universe and might even surpass it, and as a MASSIVE fan of those books I’m not saying that lightly. And if you haven’t read these two books yet what are you waiting for?! Go read them!!!!

Amazing, fantastic, splendid—I cannot WAIT until September gets here to read the final book!!!

Just break my heart, why don’t you? 😭

If you want an urban fantasy to put your emotions through the wringer, then stomp on your heart for good measure, before wrapping you in a warm hug, look no further. Found family, sweet romance, epic battles, high stakes, characters you want to hug (& scream at).

I went through just about every emotion in my repertoire and came out the other side with a smile on my face & proceeded to hug my kindle, because IT WAS JUST THAT GOOD. 😍 (note: hugging physical books is much better, so I need this one as a shelf trophy, asap.)

Can’t believe I missed the memo BEFORE I started the series that the third book has not released yet… oops. Thankfully, there’s not a major cliffhanger, so I can exist semi-normally until then. 🤣 Still, September can’t come soon enough!!

Wow! Just...WOW! I absolutely loved this book! It was everything I could have hoped for in a sequel to A Wizard Awakened. I loved how Brittany Fichter managed to create the characters with such emotional detail, and I loved how each of the characters developed and grew over the course of the novel. I really enjoyed Aithan's and Everleigh's relationship - even though Aithan was cursed, he and Everleigh still had meaningful moments. This book has me eagerly awaiting the next book! I can't wait to see more of Evereligh's wizard powers and what challenges she and Aithan will encounter next as a team. This book was incredibly well-written with a really intriguing plot and the entire book was so captivating. I would highly recommend this book!

I received an ARC from the author. All opinions are my own.

wonderfully immersive

The second installment in this series was really a perfect continuation of the last book — all the details fell into place in a way that was just wonderfully immersive. I really hope to see Everleigh and Aithan’s future — and Kostas brought down!

Good

NOTE: this picks up right after book one in the series, with the hook that left off at the end of the book. That means that YES you need to have read book one first, because no, this is not a standalone.

With Aithan’s curse having been activated, Everleigh and her friends have a new problem. Without his capacity to love Aithan is hard to reach, and it doesn’t help that his grandfather, the harsh Elven King, is trying to mold Aithan in his own image.
Meanwhile, the Pandora’s key group are still active, and now they seem to have another plot going on. This time, the King wants Everleigh and Aithan to investigate it.

Everleigh still can’t use her wizard magic properly though, and the new tutors she has been given by the king aren’t exactly helping much…

Book two picks up after the events in book one, with everyone in a bit of a holding pattern. It means that Everleigh has to struggle to figure things out, then to even fix the issues she discovers. As a result, her growth in the first part of the book seems to stagnate, with the bad things piling up, until the final third of the book where it all seems to explode. There may have been a few “finally” moments going through my head at that point!
While the regulars from book one are back, they aren’t as big a part of the story as they were in the previous book- with the exception of Soo Min, who is still as loud a presence as ever, and of course, Everleigh’s best friend Julia.
It’s a good story though, with quite a bit of tension building at first, and some very intriguing setups throughout. One of those involves Julia, about whom I have several theories, and I’m also fairly invested in Aithan’s brother Alexander (hoping he gets a story too).
It’s a well paced story, gradually amping things up as it goes along, and with some interesting twists and turns throughout, that I’m looking forward to seeing develop in the final book of this trilogy.

An entertaining read for urban fantasy fans, with a different take on the magical denizens of the world. If you’re a fan of urban fantasy, contemporary fantasy, and elves and fae in particular, then you’ll enjoy this story.

Reader’s Notes:

-this is the 2nd book of a trilogy & must be read in order

-this is told from Everleigh & Aithan’s points of view

-there is some fantasy violence

Review:

I stayed up late to finish this book! And I am so glad that the third book releases next week so I can find out what’s going to happen next! 😅

It was really interesting to see Aithan’s curse from both Everleigh & Aithan’s points of view! I loved that Everleigh was holding onto hope that she could figure out how to break his curse, despite how it was making him act/react towards her. I loved that Everleigh’s friend group were brought back into the fold despite the king’s attempts to cut her off from anything that could keep her or Aithan from his own goals. I loved that Everleigh had such a strong determination to accomplish whatever she set her mind to and knew people well enough to figure out how to get around the various obstacles in her path.

I can’t wait to find out what happens next and I am so glad that there’s another trilogy coming following another one of the characters we’ve met in this one!

Summary:

Everleigh has done her best to embrace being the only wizard supernaturals know of, but thinking and doing are proving to be two very different things. With accepting her status and accepting the king’s offer of employment comes with challenges. Trying to reign in her magic the way a wizard is supposed to is hard when she’s barely used her magic in the past, but it’s even harder when the king chooses teachers who want her to do the exact opposite of what she should be able to do as a wizard: using one magic at a time compared to all magics. But Everleigh will do everything she can to learn, especially since it might be the only way to save Aithan from his curse…

Aithan is finding that he’s missing the connections he had with people before the curse encased his heart, but nothing he does can fill that void either…

A Wizard’s Worth by Brittany Fichter
I just loved the first book and this book was just as good! A Wizard’s Worth is the second book in Brittany Fichter’s A Wizard in Vegas series. I love the urban fantasy vibes and the uniqueness of all the characters.
Poor Aithan had a lot to struggle through especially with his curse. I felt for both Everleigh and Aithan as they tried to figure out their next steps. It was fun reading about Everleigh grow into herself and learn to fight in a different way. They also had to figure out how their feelings would work out especially because of Aithan’s curse.
I loved the strength of both of these characters. They had overcome so much and yet they were still fighting an uphill battle. Everleigh’s journey is not easy but I love her determination especially to protect her family and friends. And oh my goodness Everleigh was stretched. The overarching plot was getting so excited and I can’t wait to finally find out how this series will end.
I adored this book and I would totally recommend it. I feel like with each book you are not only learning more about Everleigh and Aithan, but also about their friends. The plot and characters will draw you in and you won’t want to put it down. A Wizard’s Worth is a clean urban fantasy romance
Book Highlights

Note: I am writing this review very, very late, but I am writing this review as my reactions were (and honestly still are) when I first read the book

Thoughts

I- How- What-
I'm at a loss for words. This book...It was ten times better than the first, doubled.
And seeing how much I loved the first...yeah, that speaks for itself.
A Wizard's Worth by Brittany Fichter was awesome. Heck--awesome doesn't come close. 'ARGH, THE FEELS!' is better.

Because this book was insane so many twists and turns! I had no idea where the story was going but I was so there for the ride.
Also, can I say, wow. BREAK MY HEART, SURE, WON'T YOU.
I'm so glad that got resolved, too. I don't think I could stand it for another book, haha.
And Dr. Dubois!

Now, I'm just holding my breath for A Wizard's Way and already feeling sad it's the last book.
Can't wait for the conclusion of Everleigh and Aithan's story!!!

This book packed a crap ton in it, in order to give us everything we needed to be ready, for what sounds like is going to be an epic conclusion to this series!

As frustrated as it was, it was interesting getting to see Everleigh and co interact with a cursed and emotionally closed off Aithan. In some spots, it was a bit hard to read because it was PAINFUL.

But I really did love seeing Everleigh come into her own, and not a moment too soon! I especially liked seeing her relationships grow as well as seeing how she could cleverly thwart the King next.

The twists were also fantastic and it was nice to see old faces pop up, even if they weren't as big of a presence in this book.

I'm pretty excited with the ending, and am really looking forward to how the last book is going to play out for Everleigh and the crew. But I'm also super excited that Alexander may play a bigger role in the last book! His scenes thus far are always small, but impactful or important in some way. And I'm curious to know if we'll ever find out what he was deep undercover for?

Overall, it was definitely a great sequel! And I'm excited to see what's going to happen next!

Good grief. Why are middle books of trilogies so tough! Everything needs to fall apart…before it can come back together. Thankfully, this book ends in a good place.

Everleigh needs to learn how to tap into her powers. Quickly. Events in the world are quickly ramping up, and there don’t seem to be any good guys in power. Just bad ones and worse ones.

I won’t lie - this book was a little tough! The morally-grey villain (as opposed to the Faceless Evil Organization) is…cruel. Utterly cruel. And never seems to face any consequences for his cruelty. The ends always justify the means.

It’s unique, how Brittany Fichter incorporates little glimpses of Christianity. Just tiny bits, but unique in the Urban Fantasy genre for sure. (Like, mentioning prayer during tough times, or that going to church doesn’t bring comfort like it used to.)

Overall, I’m loving this series. Five stars! I have theories about how this is all going to wrap up, but…both books 1 and 2 ended in good places. No awful cliff hangers here! On to book three!

"You're a princess! I shouldn't have to tell you not to bite people!"

Welcome back to Vegas. All of the wit and banter we loved from Everleigh's first book are back in A Wizard's Worth, along with higher stakes and new friends, enemies, and surprises as we jump into her new life under the authority of King Kostas.

The pull-and-tug with Aithan, and Everleigh's consternation over the changes to her relationship with him, was perfection! As was Aithan's downward trajectory. Lots of feelings from this one!

To be honest I was a little disappointed that we didn't get deeper into the philosophical question of what love really is - it seemed like we were headed there a couple of times and then it pulled up. The resolution was definitely satisfying, though!

Kisses-only, no swearing that I noticed, expected levels of modern fantasy violence.

"You're going to knock the supernatural world off its feet. And that's something I think it needs."

I love it when a sequel lives up to it's predecessor!

If you enjoy clean well written urban fantasy...this series is for you!

As always with this author's books, it's clean, character driven, and full of wit, humor, emotion, and well developed character arcs.

I loved watching Everleigh embrace her power!

Aithan's storyline was hard to read at times simply because it was so well written that you could feel it. I love that Everleigh never gives up on him and that even with his curse they still have moments that are meaningful.

I can't wait to see how this story plays out in the final book of this trilogy!

I love this series! Good clean urban fantasy that is impossible to put down. These are not standalones, you need to have read book 1 first - and you will definitely want to read book 3! (No dreadful cliffhangers, just the need to finish the story). I love the characters, the snarky banter, the absolute loyalty amongst the group of friends despite the cost. I loved how Everleigh had to work so hard to master her skills and her persistence to try - and keep trying - to do the impossible. Why? - because it needed to be done! I would highly recommend this series to fans of Kenley Davidson or K.M. Shea. I received an ARC but this review is my own.

I don’t usually read series’ that are incomplete because I’m not patient enough to wait for the sequels…that being said, this is a series I’m glad I picked up! A Wizard’s Worth picks right back up after A Wizard’s Awakened and moves at the perfect pace. I can’t help but be frustrated yet sad for Aithan and his struggles in this book. I’m really glad the author gave us a dual point of view in this one or I might’ve given up on Aithan altogether but…I am rooting for him and Everleigh to get their happily ever after.

Great characters with wit and charm

I have really enjoyed this series. The story shows the sacrifices made for the people you love. The mix of magical beings with their lore embedded in is wonderful with humor, drama, romance, and friendships all woven together. Brittany has a knack for weaving clean and fun romance with the battles of good vs evil. It isn't all about the romantic relationship either. There were so many unpredictable twists I just kept wanting to read. I would definitely recommend for teens and adults that like fantasy, fairy tales, and all things magical.

Goodness, I liked this book so much!! I had zero idea how the story would go. All I knew was that the synopsis sounded great and I needed to know what would happen between Everleigh and Aithan! 😍😍 Especially from the ending in book one! Everleigh is a little bad A and doesn’t take others crap, which I appreciate. There’s some action, cool magic scenes, and a new bad guy. All in all, I’m super happy I read this book!

At first I was slightly bored but it picked up quick. Even under a curse Aithan was loyal and protective. They had their ups and downs. Everleigh grew up (both in personality and powers).

The woman on the cover looks older than Everleigh in the books. Still a well done cover though.

Content: a few kisses, some violence and fighting, a couple mentions of blood. No cursing.

Can’t wait for book 3.

This book has action, character personal growth, and a slow-burn romance full of angst and reveals. There are so many troubled situations that the characters must face. Are they able to get out of the clutches of the various situations that mean them harm, can they keep the high ground while surrounded by questionable morals? I look forward to the next book to find out how these friends can help overcome the dire circumstances stacking against them...

I received an early copy of this book, but my views are my own.

So good!

A Wizard's Worth was such a good book, but, man, was it hard to read when emotionless Aithan kept spiraling further and further into the dark void. I loved how Everleigh continued to fight for him, no matter what Aithan or his dictator grandfather threw at her. Fantastic second book, and I can't wait to read the third!

What an exciting ride! This story was fueled by adrenaline and courage! I loved how the main characters continues to fight for what was right even when things went wrong and there seemed to be no way out! This book was clean and uplifting with only kisses and holding hands. There was plenty of action and suspense, though!

Great second book

I love all of Brittany’s books! I love how I can trust that they will be clean and have a happy ending eventually, but that she won’t shy away for the way life truly is. I was happy with how some thing were resolved in this book, even though it’s not the final book of the series! If you like adventure, and clean romance read any of her books!

Oh, my heart

Thank goodness we didn't have to wait for the third book to break that godawful curse. Because that was heartbreaking. But oh my goodness, what a price. And what a freaking LEAP in the relationship. Seriously, speed of light, man. I'm not complaining...exactly. I loved it. It WAS eye-opening, though.

Lovely urban fantasy

This book being a bridge in the trilogy is expected to lag here and there, I think the whole part of a complete 180 of the mmc was a bit off, but I understood why. That being said enough events happened to keep one engaged.

The second book in this series starts where the first book ended with Everleigh now working for the king and coming into her powers.

For me honestly, I was always interested in the plot and in this book it was no exception. There are many mysteries still left to uncover (especially concerning certain characters) and I can’t wait for those!!

For the romance—it was a little predictable knowing they were going to end up together. And they did, obviously. (For those of you who know—I do agree with Uncle Finn). For me it was all very fast in the end, but it was enjoyable and sweet and I would feel comfortable giving this book to my younger sisters to read. It’s clean and safe for everyone!

Can’t wait for book 3!
