Ellis Remember Baker is, putting it mildly, unorthodox.
Residents of Arlington, Vermont - population 2,457 - mostly laughed when they saw the 12-year-old boy running backward around town, equipped with a homemade headband featuring two mirrors that helped him see where he was going.
They weren't laughing long.
The descendant of Remember Baker Jr. of Green Mountain Boys fame was soon excelling on the track, basketball court, football field and baseball diamond.
A throwback with long dark hair, serious gray eyes and a short but highly developed physique, Ellis owned shelves of books and zero social media accounts. He didn't play video games. He had no use for a smartphone.
What Ellis did do was follow the training of Ben Patrick, aka #KneesOverToesGuy. By age 13, Ellis was attracting the attention of major college coaches and fans of the strange but phenomenal student athlete.
Well, you know what happens to people like Ellis.
They become heroes.
And targets.
In this second book chronicling Ellis Baker's jaw-dropping adventures - the first was Full Speed Behind - he's blazing full speed ahead, but he can't outrun the bull's-eye that is growing on his broad back.
Luckily for Ellis, he's got friends.
Some larger than others.
