Miller Morgan—or MJ, to basically everyone—once dreamed of a future in New York City with her best friend, Olivia Mitchell, by her side. They had plans. Big plans.
Until tragedy struck.
At seventeen, the world MJ knew shattered into a million pieces, scattered across the quiet sands of her sleepy beach hometown.
Now, at twenty-eight, MJ's life is a far cry from what she imagined.
She’s stuck in a never-ending loop, each day blending into the next. By day, she bartends at her parents' seaside restaurant; by night, she chases elusive words for a book that feels like it’ll never exist. The past—and the grief—still lingers, keeping her trapped in a life that doesn’t seem to move forward.
Enter Grey Prescott.
Charming, wealthy, and undeniably attractive—Grey is everything MJ usually avoids. A summer transplant, the type who lives for the thrill of a whirlwind romance and vanishes before fall, leaving nothing but disappointment in his wake. And despite his persistence, she’s not falling for it.
Or so she thought.
As the summer unfolds, MJ finds herself irresistibly drawn to Grey, discovering a connection and a passion that deepens by the day. But even as he inspires her to look towards the future once again, she can’t shake the feeling that there’s more to Grey than meets the eye.
Can one summer really change everything? Or is the past just too hard to leave behind?
I'm an extra bubbly, introvert, who thrives in the chaos of storytelling. I write romance novels with BIG feelings and even BIGGER happy endings.
I’ve been writing ever since I can remember. It’s always been an outlet, one that allowed me to handle my own emotions while creating an escape for others too. Over time, the only thing that changed was that my diaries morphed into voice memos and sticky notes.
I will say, I have to credit my success as a writer to my 2008 self who stayed up way too late writing fanfiction about Panic! At The Disco. There is truly nothing more authentic than a 14-year-old writer who fully believes she’s going to marry a band member.
When I’m not writing, I’m either chasing my tiny human in circles, frantically packing for a trip the night before, or figuring out how to create stories that will make people feel the same way they did at the Eras Tour.
So, buckle up, Buttercup. And grab the tissues, because it’s about to hurt so good.
I had the absolute privilege of reading an ARC of this beautifully written story, and I just want to thank the author, Bianca Miller, for the opportunity. After a heartbreaking event turns her world upside down, Miller—aka MJ—puts her dreams on hold, stuck in the safety of her small hometown. Then Grey Prescott walks into her life, and suddenly she’s not just finding herself again, but helping him discover who he is too.
This story was amazing—truly beautiful. It pulled me in from the very first page. I was crying within the first few chapters, smiling like crazy halfway through, and crying happy tears by the end. Bianca Miller handles the themes of grief and healing with so much care and authenticity. She captures the pain of loss and the hope of love after grief so well.
If you’re looking for a quick read that’s emotional, heartwarming, and full of depth, I highly recommend this one. It’s the kind of story that sticks with you.
This book started with tears and ended with tears — and I would read it all over again in a heartbeat.
MJ has been through so much and is terrified of opening her heart again. Then Grey walks in — mysterious, gentle, and everything she didn’t know she needed. Seriously, Grey is the definition of “if he wanted to, he would.”
I loved that both MJ and Grey were on their own journeys of healing and growth, and they worked through it together in such a beautiful way. The character development made the whole story chef’s kiss.
Also… the spice? Perfect. Emotional, steamy, and exactly what the story needed.
The Breath Between Us is only Bianca Miller’s second book, and I already know I’ll read whatever she writes next. If you love emotional romance with real, raw characters — this one’s for you.
P.S. Someone cue “Invisible String” by Taylor Swift — it fits this story perfectly.
Rarely do I read romance novels. I was gifted this an ARC and decided I’d go in with an open mind. That open mind led to my heart being shattered into a million pieces. So many tears were shed during this book. However just like the main character MJ, slowly it was healed with laughter, love, and a bit of sassiness. Stepping outside of your comfort genre is hard but Bianca Miller hit it out the park with this one. She gave just enough spice to keep you interested but not to the point where it’s overwhelming. The touches of the things going on recently in pop culture down to the music selections were spot on.
I would like to thank the Author Bianca Miller for allowing me a chance to read the advanced copy.
I am honored to be a part of the ARC group. This was so fun and I loved getting the "sneak peek."
I want to first say that I see the author's growth so much from her debut novel, "Diving In" to "The Breath Between Us." This was a beautiful story that took place over a whole summer and captured my attention pretty early on.
I love MJ, her character is inspiring, fun, charismatic, charming, daring and spunky.
I also love Grey. He's calculated in the best way, confident, sexy and strong.
Both of these characters were easy to fall in love with.
I saw the "twist" really early on but it was still sweet and emotional to read it and see it come to life.
My few complaints are; - Chief Williams. WHY don't we get more of him?!?! He's there and then he's not and I'm honestly mad about the lack of Chief Williams.
-This next one will be a touchy subject; "I love you big" and the "I love you bigger." Gag. I hate this type of phrase and felt it was very overused. However, I also know this is solely a personal preference so it absolutely does NOT effect my rating.
It didn't get 5 stars because it still had some minor issues that made me scratch my head.
- The smut really had me pausing because I felt like those scenes didn't flow. I was stopping and re-reading and asking, "wait, what position are they in again?" It just could flow a little more cohesively.
- The timeline. When the "Now" started, I felt like MJ represented a 23 year old, not a 28 year old. She acts very young. Having to remind myself that she was 28 often was a little wrench for me.
Overall - I liked this story, I loved the characters. I think Bianca will only grow as an Author and I can't wait to read more of her books!!!
The Breath Between Us is the kind of book that sneaks up on you and completely wraps itself around your heart. From the very first page, I was pulled into MJ’s story—her quiet strength, her vulnerability, and her journey of healing felt so authentic and raw. Returning to her beachside hometown, she’s not just facing the past—she’s figuring out how to move forward… and then there’s Grey.
Oh, Grey. The tension, the banter, the slow build of trust and attraction—it’s perfection. Their chemistry is electric, but what really makes this story shine is the emotional depth woven through every chapter. It’s about grief, growth, second chances, and learning that healing doesn’t always come in a straight line.
Bianca Miller’s writing is beautiful and honest, filled with heart, warmth, and just the right amount of spice. I laughed, I cried, and I didn’t want it to end. This one’s going to stay with me for a long time.
If you love romance with substance, soul, and swoon-worthy moments—this book is a must-read.
Bianca did SO AMAZING on her second novel!!! I read this book quickly and always looked forward to opening it back up and continuing the story! She did a wonderful job of speaking about grief and the complex emotions that come with it. This book made me smile and cry and feel all the feels. Loved how she tied everything together in a way that was unexpected and beautiful. CONGRATS B!!!! Amazing!!!
Compelling story and didn’t see the ending coming! TW car accident & grief. I did think the grief throughout felt somewhat cheesy at times but that’s coming from someone who has experienced the same situation as MJ.

This was my very first ARC and I feel so lucky it was The Breath Between Us. What an unforgettable way to start.
I was crying just 10% in. This story grabbed my heart and didn’t let go. The grief, the longing, the hope. It was all so deeply felt. MJ and Grey’s banter made me smile through the tears. The push and pull between them felt natural, never overdone, and I rooted for them with my whole heart.
One quote that will stay with me: “But more than anything, I’m going to show you that not everyone leaves.” — Grey That line hit like a promise—to MJ, to the reader, and maybe to every broken part in all of us.
This book is emotional, raw, and healing. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves stories about second chances, honest grief, and hope.
This was my first read after having my second little and I was so excited to dive back into reading. I was instantly drawn in and couldn’t put this book down. I found myself taking every chance I could get during the day to grab my kindle and read. It’s the perfect easy read, romance filed with more than enough to keep drawing you back to finish but also pausing because you just don’t want it to end. I am hoping we get to hear more of MJ and Grey’s story because I was left wanting more!! My heart was skipping beats, I had a silly smile on my face and a few tears rolled down my cheek. Congrats Bianca and thank you for letting me be a ARC reader for this amazing book!
If you love swoony with some spice and a real heartfelt story, this one's for you. I had chills within the first 30 pages of this book. I thought for sure I knew where the story was headed but I was so wrong! This is a wonderful read going in to summer! Perfect for the pool or beach but, be warned, you may shed a tear or two!
I really enjoyed the story of MJ and Grey and am honored to have had the chance to review this ARC ahead of its release on 4/29.
Filled with grief, hope, a swoon-worthy MMC (I mean Grey is 🥵🥵), love after loss, and the perfect amount of spice. The story is beautifully told and you’ll not only feel the pain MJ carries daily, but you’ll find yourself cheering for her as she learns to trust her heart again.
First off - I want to thank Bianca for giving me the chance to read one of her advanced copies of this story.
A contemporary romance based in Montauk where a young woman endures grief, and tragedy with the unknown of what the future holds. Will time stand still, or will she find a way to move forward and pursue her dreams?
Tropes - second chances, and soulmates
The emotions felt when reading this novel were very real and raw, it had me ready to cry on several occasions which is not something I take lightly. The way the characters are portrayed are great, and I love the character development that MJ and GP experience throughout this novel.
I can see Bianca is really stepping into her author role with this release as the writing style has taken a beautiful approach and I have seen lots of growth between this novel and diving in.
My only complaints - I need more of Chief Williams. I could take a novella just about his POV. I also would have liked to see more of the tensions between MLC and his relations.
I can’t wait to watch people submerge themselves into this book!
I had the privilege of ARC reading this beautifully written story and I would just like to thank the author, Bianca Miller for allowing me that opportunity.
After a devastating event changes the trajectory of her life, Miller (MJ) has put her dreams on hold, unable to leave the comfort zone of her small hometown. Enter Grey Prescott, who helps MJ rediscover herself as a person while also discovering himself.
What an amazingly beautiful story. You are pulled in from the very beginning. I went from crying in the first few chapters, to giddy and excited in the middle, to crying tears of happiness at the end. The author touches on life after grief so well, she touches on love after grief so well. I highly recommend this book if you’re looking for a quick, yet heartfelt story with loss and love.
Absolutely LOVED!!! A quick read that keeps you engaged throughout. I love how the heaviness of grief was touched on in this book without weighing down the light and love of the romance. Perfect amount of steamy and star crossed lovers with such fun and intense plot twists!! I was kicking my feet and giggling, I was crying, and I was laughing- LOVE LOVE LOVE ❤️ you crushed it Bianca!!!
Obviously when you request an ARC, you hope you will love it. Unfortunately, this one was not for me. This is a story about MJ who loses her best friend and basically ends up stuck for 10 years. When Grey comes into town, she finally finds the motivation to start working toward her dream of being a writer.
I enjoyed the premise but the dialogue is where I had a hard time. Everything Grey said was giving Paulo from "The Lizzie McGuire Movie". I was waiting for him to say " you shine like the light from the sun". While Lizzie is a cinematic masterpiece, I just found Grey's dialogue very cheesy for a 30 year old. Everything felt like a line. Also, I can understand why MJ always takes the chance to tell people in her life that she loves them... but the whole "I love you big" thing was not my favorite.
Outside of the dialogue, I felt like Grey insisted on MJ being an open book while literally keeping secrets until 85% of the book. One secret was pretty obvious from about 50% on.
Anyways, overall it was a sweet story with a cute ending. It just was not for me.
Thank you so much to the author and her team for the ARC. This releases 4/29.
So many thoughts! Overall, this lands at a 3.5 for me. It was a very easy to read story. There were some things that I liked, and a handful of things I'd have loved to see adjusted/places I found a little polishing may have been beneficial. To start: Miller (MJ) Morgan suffers a devastating loss earlier in life, and spends the next decade-plus at a pause; unable to write, or truly move forward in almost any way. When she meets Grey, they have a very hard-to-explain connection and quickly become one another's person. She finds herself starting to become unstuck, and MJ wonders whether she can move forward and live a meaningful life with the memory of her loss intact.
Spoilers from this point on will be very minor as I'd like to respect Bianca's request to let everyone experience this for themselves, however I will offer some background on basic info in the story for the purpose of my critique/review. If you'd prefer to avoid that, please come back to this section once your read-through is complete. :)
Bianca does a good job of writing stories that are palatable. That may sound like a simple compliment, but it absolutely is not. How many times have you picked up a book from the shelf and been totally unable to engross yourself into the story? Bianca doesn't have that problem. To the setting: Lovely! Who doesn't like the idea of a small, homey beach town? A small town was almost required for this story given MJ's fear of vehicles, which was, in my opinion, pretty severe.
The line, "Her dreams would always be pictures pinned to a wooden board." (IYKYK.) TOOK. ME. OUT. I loved it.
The way these two met didn't work for me. Grey nearly hits her with his car when she runs across the road. In my view, assuming MJ struggles with cars to this degree, it seems probable that this would REALLY scare her. But apart from a briefly increased heart rate, she appears largely unfazed, even winking at Grey a moment or two after. I did struggle to root for the couple afterward because this is the foundation they build off of. Insta-love can work, but I tend to find it best after a couple finds themselves spending some time together-even if it's only a couple of hours-and building from that. The quick 'almost hit and run, and now we're hooked' was so fast that it lost me a little bit. Now, the idea of being frozen in place after a death is reasonable. Life-altering events shake you. We would never be able to appreciate the beautiful moments in life if we didn't live through bad ones, too. With that said, being frozen for eleven years was... Well, there's an element of grief which feels so terrible that eventually we all want to try. And MJ doesn't seem to do that. She is literally STUCK. I found this to be unrealistic, not because of the action, but because of how LONG she remains so. I did enjoy the twist at the end of the story, and the epilogue! A couple of other points: I am a HOUND for grammar, and did locate a couple of errors in the text, which I documented. Description, as well as dialogue, can be complicated to get right. There's an utter truth that speech requires which I found in certain lines, and was lacking in others. Some of it, though sweet, was repetitive. On description: There's a yin and yang with the number of descriptors to use, where and how to place them. There was too much for me in much of it-in one or two places, several pages worth. Often, a few well-chosen and correctly placed words will paint a stunning scene that allows you as the author to lean on one of the very best tools you have: The imagination of your reader. There were a couple places in which I'd have liked to have been able to rely on mine more.
When it boils down, writing is a craft, and Bianca is working her tail off at it. Any of us who love the field and strive to improve will achieve that goal if they continue to work at it. From the pieces of her debut, Diving In, that I read, she is certainly on the road to become more skilled as she goes. She has a very promising future as a writer and storyteller, and I hope like MAD that she continues, because this ride has been SO FUN. Big thanks to Bianca for selecting me to be an ARC reader at no cost to her in exchange for a review. It was truly a pleasure. All opinions and thoughts are fully my own.

Thank you @biancamillerwrites for an ARC of The Breath Between Us! This is my first novel of hers to read, and I’m already adding Diving In to my TBR.
Both the cover and the writing are so gorgeous!! I absolutely loved the significance of the lilac hydrangeas featured on the cover, and I already started looking up if they would thrive in my own yard 🪻
This story focuses on two love stories – one of romance and one of friendship. Our FMC, Miller (MJ) Morgan lost her best friend Olivia (who was basically like her sister) when they were 17 years old. When our story picks up, MJ is in her late twenties, pretty stuck in life. Instead of chasing her and Liv’s shared dream to pursue careers in New York City together, MJ’s life is stuck on a loop in her hometown. She’s hard to let anyone else fully into her heart again for fear that they will ultimately leave her again (whether by choice or not), but this summer is different. When Grey Prescott blazes into town, the magnetism between the two is undeniable, despite their worlds being vastly different. MJ has to learn that having people to love and to love her is worth the risk of getting hurt.
I thought the depiction of loss and treading water in the wake to be so poignant. Bianca Miller’s writing had me sucked in, and I flew through this book in 48 hours. I loved Miller and Grey’s banter and relationship. MJ’s family and friends were the most incredible support – I especially wanted more of Chief Williams, with his grandfatherly encouragement.
This releases on TUESDAY (4/29) - give it a read!! 🫶🏻
Thank you, B. For writing this, and for letting me read it early. I love you big.
"And better yet, love is scary as hell. If it wasn't, it wouldn't be as epic as everyone says it is."
What I Liked: - Without spoiling anything, Grey and MJ are the definition of the invisible string theory. Their connection is palpable and transcends reality in the most stunning way. They're both so ambitious but scared of failure. They're both so passionate but smother their own fire. But together, they burn. The connections, or as I called them, webs that Bianca Miller wove together to make their connection that much deeper felt so seamless and natural. Nothing about this fell flat for me. Everyone's love for one another jumped off the page and made me feel like I was receiving it as well.
Final Thoughts: - Bianca did her big one with The Breath Between Us. Everything from Miller's personality to Grey's background was so well thought out and well written. It's a strength of Bianca's to evoke emotions through her words, but this will have you crying, blushing & cheering all in one chapter. My own personal bias aside, this is one of the best romance novels I have ever read.
I am so happy I received the opportunity to read this ARC. From the very beginning, I was captivated by Bianca Miller’s ability to illustrate every scene so vividly.
The FMC, MJ experiences a tragic event that causes her to hesitate when it comes to letting loose and living her best life. Then, she comes across Grey Prescott. His presence alone has the power to silence her worries, anxieties, and doubts.
Grey Prescott… is kind, genuine, and protective without being possessive. He is literally the perfect book boyfriend AND real-life boyfriend. The interactions between the two are funny and pure—it makes you chuckle and feel giddy.
This book had me on such an emotional rollercoaster, and I think that’s what makes Bianca Miller such a talented author. You feel devastated and on the verge of tears one minute, and the next, you’re laughing out loud or feeling warm and fuzzy inside.
I wish I could reread and experience the jaw-dropping moments in this book for the first time again, because I was definitely caught off guard.
Such a good read, would definitely recommend if you want more of a real-life romance. Has the perfect amount of spice!
I am so thankful I was chosen as an ARC reader for this novel. If you loved Diving In, the authors first novel, you will LOVE this one just as much, if not more. For this only being her second novel, her storytelling and writing is impressive. It captures you, pulls you in, and makes you not want to put the story down. Her writing often reminded me of an Elin Hilderbrand novel.
I loved this cute, heartwarming, emotional. story. It was a fast read, because the story is so consuming. The emotion, the sorrow/grief, the romance (the spice!!!), the way you can’t help but smile at the end.
I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to continue to follow Bianca’s journey as an author.
This book…. WOW! Beautifully written by Bianca Miller.
My first ARC experience and it was incredible to be able to read this novel before its published date.
The author intertwines grief, love, jaw dropping surprises, deep emotions, a little of humor, and the art of chasing your dreams - even through the challenges of life.
Every page was better than the last. The story of MJ is bittersweet, powerful, and heartfelt. I definitely got teary eyed throughout the novel and the end left me in aw.
Thank you for my first ARC experience, Bianca Miller! I also loved that my sister in law received the ARC copy as well and we buddy read this novel. Thank you so much for this experience! I loved this novel so much. 🌟
First of all, big thank you to @biancamillerwrites for allowing me to revive my first ARC!!!
I absolutely loved loved loved everything about this book! I love MJ and Grey and their banter! I love how emotional it made me! Love how even though there is death and grief in this book , it shows that love and having the biggest support system gets you through it!
I give this book 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟! I’m obsessed and cannot wait to read another one of your books @biancamillerwrites!
Best of this read is being able to buddy read it with my sister-in-law (who also received an ARC) and “debriefing” with all the emotions!
Once again loved and please add it to your TBR when it hits the shelves on 4/29!
Thank you to Bianca for selecting me to receive the ARC of this book!
This book tells a good story, mostly dealing with grief and its aftermath. When MJ’s best friend dies before their senior year, MJ has to learn how to live without her best friend. Instead of carrying out their shared dream of moving to New York, MJ remains stagnant in their small town. When Grey arrives, he pursues MJ and she is slow to let him in, as he is a city guy and she is a small town girl.
This is probably a 3.5 for me. There are some things I think could be improved. The dialogue is pretty cheesy and basic, with every character constantly saying all of their feelings to each other with many cliches. Some scenes are built up to for many pages (multiple party scenes), only for the party to end abruptly within one or two pages. There are also some very shallow characters (specifically Chief Williams and Grey’s father). I would love more show-don’t-tell details outside of the dialogue. There were also some plot moments that created conflict through one character just not saying what they should, which is a personal pet peeve. I think if some of these scenes and characters were given more attention and pages in the book, the story would greatly benefit.
Overall, the story was a little predictable, but comforting. I liked all of the characters and having experienced a loss recently myself, I thought all of the grief pieces rang true. It was a very quick and easy read, and I did really enjoy it. For a second book, Bianca Miller did a great job. I’ll always think of this story when I see lilac hydrangeas.

I FLEW through this book, and didn’t want to put down! While romance isn’t usually my first choice of genre, I truly enjoyed the quality and depth of the story Bianca Miller wrote. I also appreciated the journey of grief shared throughout the book. Grief can feel like a taboo subject but this book highlights some of the darkest parts and gave me a better understanding of what someone may be going through. I connected to the characters and found myself rooting for them the whole way through. Will definitely be looking forward to the next book from Bianca Miller!
Have your tissues ready this book gave me all of the feelings. As a long islander I loved that it felt like Long Island and the disconnect but connection we have to NYC. This story is truly one everyone should read sometimes your soulmate is your best friend. And sometimes you need to look around and realize you need to start living again
What an awesome surprise to wake up on vacation with a free book loaded onto my Kindle. Thank you to Goodreads- I never win anything so it was a lovely treat to receive this book.
Sweet story of loss and love. Set in Montauk during the summer it is a perfect beach read.
Oh. My. Goodness. This book was INCREDIBLE. I have never felt so many emotions. I thought for sure I knew where this was going, but I never in a million years expected this ending. My heart is bursting over the end.
I am familiar with grief, and Bianca does a great job of illustrating it especially in this excerpt “the way grief manipulated its way back into your brain during the least opportune times was something I’d never get used to. Grief didn’t care if you were having a good day, it didn’t care if you were standing in line at the grocery store or sitting in the park having a picnic. It snuck up on you when you least expected it and did its best to pull you back under.” I don’t think there has ever been a more accurate depiction.
Grey is a dream of a man, and MJ definitely deserved him after all that she has endured. She is a very tough girl and I admire her strength and drive.
I loved this book big!!!
Thank you to Bianca for giving me an ARC :)

3.75 ⭐️ I was so grateful to receive an ARC for TBBU and it didn’t disappoint! The story hooked me from the beginning and I genuinely enjoyed this read. I think Bianca did a great job building each of our character’s storylines and keeping Liv’s memory alive & how MJ handles the grief of losing someone so tragically. I almost gave 4 stars, but felt at times that big scenes were almost too rushed and forced in transition and I wish there was more build up/tension in the moments before heading straight into the drama! All in all, I would still recommend this book!
