Morning & Evening A devotional classic for daily encouragement KJV Version

Rate this book
Charles Spurgeon wrote these classic, one-page daily devotions to be read each morning and evening to encourage his fellow believers. Over one hundred years later, Spurgeon's devotions continue to encourage Christians with the message of God's love. Each meditation is founded on a single verse of Scripture, inspiring and exhorting readers to rely upon God's care for people and to respond to that love with ever deeper service.

Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892) was England's best-known preacher for most of the second half of the nineteenth century. In 1854, just four years after his conversion, Spurgeon, then only 20, became pastor of London's famed New Park Street Church (formerly pastored by the famous Baptist theologian, John Gill). The congregation quickly outgrew their building, moved to Exeter Hall, then to Surrey Music Hall. In these venues, Spurgeon frequently preached to audiences numbering more than 10,000—all in the days before electronic amplification. In 1861, the congregation moved permanently to the newly constructed Metropolitan Tabernacle.

It's hard to review a 365 Day Devotional because each month is usually a different portion. I had attempted to review it month by month and will perhaps do it in the future, but for now, I'll just summarize.
I love Charles Spurgeon, his writing, his sermons, his devotionals. While there are some doctrines of his I don't agree with, (I'll just say we don't agree on the doctrine of predestination/election/limited atonement...basically the teachings of Calvin) I love the way that Spurgeon speaks about God.
One thing that is very dear to my heart is the way that Spurgeon speaks of God's love with such tenderness. He speaks of the love of God with such beautiful poetry, it's like walking through a field of flowers talking about God rather than hammering the point home. Yet he also balances it with the hard messages that we as Believers don't want to hear. Such as, how much do you love Him? Do you obey Him daily? Are you a reluctant lover of your God? God's love is intermingled with His other character attributes such as His justice, holiness and infinity. This devotional book will leave you in awe, convicted and in love with your Savior. It will also leave you with a fiery desire to work for Him, share His message of truth and be lost in His word.
I recommend Morning and Evening to all Believers. The short devotionals are so full of rich truths about God. I can't count the number of times a section in the book was just what I needed in the moment.
